Lore
The Vortex-Heart Singularity Harness 842 is the ultimate synthesis of physical grounding and planar transcendence, forged in a reality-bending convergence of elemental and cosmic energies. Its creation stems from an unprecedented ritual where high-tier technomancers sought to bind the fluid essence of the deep oceans with the absolute stability of ancient stone, simultaneously anchoring the mixture to the cosmos using volatile void patterns. The inclusion of celestial nimbusite and sensory alchemical incense allowed the magical pathways to align perfectly, preventing catastrophic failure by channeling the raw elements into a hyper-focused structural loop. According to legend, the artifact behaves like a living micro-cosmos, responding telepathically to the character’s mental gestalt and pulsing with the collective memory of the five distinct vessels sacrificed to anchor its final, absolute form.
Description
This magnificent and intimidating tier 5 artifact manifests as a heavy chest harness crafted from dark, obsidian-like lightened granite plates bound by shimmering silver chains and supple leather straps. Engraved along the face of the granite slabs are intricate, pulsating runes that cycle between deep abyssal blue, glowing amber, and starry ultraviolet light. At the center of the chest plate rests a swirling, transparent crystal core filled with pressurized, bioluminescent ocean water that flows in perfect harmony with a localized micro-vortex of starlit mist. The entire structure radiates a cool, invigorating mist alongside a subtle warmth that pulses into the wearer’s torso. When activated, the harness becomes a single, immutable physical object that sits flawlessly over the chest, absorbing any sub-components into its unified frame.

Passives Magic
- Singularity Resonance: The harness detects and traces active magical flows, planetary eclipses, and planar boundaries across all environments, highlighting rifts as vivid streams of ultraviolet light in the wearer’s Mind’s Eye.
- Vigilant Seismograph: Emits precise vibrational feedback through the chest straps to warn of structural collapses, incoming ambushes, or seismic shifts well in advance.
- Ethereal Rejuvenation: The wearer continuously recovers from fatigue and environmental exhaustion, feeling a soothing, refreshing breeze that stabilizes core energy.
- Fluid Shield: Natural physical attacks and standard projectiles hitting the torso are partially absorbed and dissipated by an ambient layer of hardened pressurized mist.
Active Magics
- Summon Minion 758 (1/Session): The core erupts with brilliant blue light, manifesting a medium-sized humanoid of clear, swirling water and bioluminescence to serve the wearer’s intentions with absolute autonomy in any environment.
- Voidwalk Portal (1/Long Rest): The wearer invokes the silver runes to momentarily step into the ethereal realm, bypassing physical walls, magical wards, or geographical obstacles to instantly emerge at a distant location.
- Pulse of the Deep Earth (3/Long Rest): Concentrating for one minute sends a powerful, controlled vibration outward in a 60-foot radius, fully mapping all hidden tunnels, underwater springs, and hollow voids.
- Singularity Lock (2/Long Rest): As a reaction, the harness temporarily fuses its structure with the ground, making the wearer completely immovable and immune to forced displacement or crushing damage for one minute.
Specific Slot
- Chest Slot: This item is a worn item that physically occupies only a single slot on the avatar’s chest. It does not occupy any additional slots, and all sub-components are fully integrated into this single physical object.
Targeted Mechanics, Item Fortitude, and Restoration
Should an attacker choose to target the Vortex-Heart Singularity Harness 842 during combat to deactivate its magical properties, the attacker must overcome a specialized Armor Check threshold. The item’s total AC becomes the targeted avatar’s base AC, plus the avatar’s tier level, plus the maximum roll of the avatar’s tier die. Because the harness itself is a reinforced piece of protective equipment, its intrinsic asset defense is added to this total calculation. A successful hit immediately unattunes and deactivates the item, rendering its passives and actives inert. Because it functions as a held or actively braced focal apparatus during combat maneuvers, it cannot be utilized again until it undergoes a full ritual attunement process lasting at least 10 minutes.
To permanently break or destroy the harness, an attacker must deplete its entire pool of item health points. Since the harness is a Tier 5 Legendary item, its resilience is valued at 50. The absolute maximum hit points of this single physical object are calculated by multiplying its tier resilience by its tier level, then adding the possessing avatar’s maximum health points:
50×5=250 HP+Avatar’s Maximum HP
If the item takes damage and its health points fall to half of this combined total or lower, the harness becomes structurally broken, and all magical functions cease to operate. Unlike living beings, the artifact cannot naturally regenerate its structural integrity over time.
To restore a broken or damaged harness to full functionality, it must be repaired manually through advanced artisan labor. This requires a workshop environment equipped with a steam-forge anvil, a hydration crucible, and a specialized geomantic chisel set. The mending process necessitates high-level expertise in Stoneweaving, Circuitry Inscription, and Alchemy to realign the fractured geomantic lines and stabilize the Anuran binding resins without shattering the central core. If the harness is completely destroyed by reaching zero hit points, it dissolves and drops its fundamental component materials, which include lightened granite slabs, steam-tanned leather straps, iron chains, ley-circuit filaments, a vial of binding resin, a harvested piece of luminescent coral, and the central core gem. These base components must then be reassembled from the beginning using the original crafting techniques to remake the unified object.
Acquisition Pathways and Commercial Venues
To obtain the Vortex-Heart Singularity Harness 842, an avatar must engage in monumental undertakings, as an artifact of this magnitude cannot be stumbled upon through mundane exploration. It is typically acquired as a supreme reward for resolving a regional crisis, such as sealing a massive planar rift threatening an island nation or preventing the collapse of a major underground metropolis. Powerful mages belonging to the Order of the Starlit Path or top-tier Stoneweavers within the high-level factions may bestow this item upon a party that has achieved legendary renown. Alternatively, the components can be reclaimed from the deep ocean trenches or dangerous astral zones where ancient cities like Astralyn were scattered, requiring characters to defeat high-tier entities before assembling the pieces via an expert artisan.
High-Tier Faction Vaults and Holy Foundries
The primary legal locations where such an item is kept are the grand central sanctuaries of the Forges of Gravok or the secured vaults of elite maritime guilds. These locations operate on a strict merit and ritual system rather than standard commerce.
- Transaction Style: To purchase or receive the harness here, characters cannot simply present currency. They must possess a high rank within the faction and exchange legendary assets, such as a Tier 5 magic crystal (the size and weight of a covered wagon) or provide a signed treaty of alliance from an island monarch.
- Cost Evaluation: The cost is measured in monumental service, typically requiring the completion of a tier-appropriate legendary quest line, plus a donation of rare materials valued at approximately 500 to 800 Platinum pieces to fuel the temple furnaces.
The Planar Crossroads and Celestial Hubs
Enigmatic interplanar brokers and dimensional merchants occasionally trade high-tier artifacts at the crossroads of existence, away from the jurisdiction of local island monarchies. These markets cater to Isekai entities and multi-timers who understand the deep mechanics of the multiverse.
- Transaction Style: Transactions are conducted through high-stakes bartering, specialized trade contracts, or the exchange of rare, non-metal local currencies that carry high seigniorage value. Merchants here thoroughly inspect buyers using identification items to ensure they possess the necessary credentials and tier level to handle the harness.
- Cost Evaluation: Due to the scarcity of Tier 5 equipment, the market price fluctuates wildly based on what the seller’s market will bear. A buyer can expect a starting cost of 100 to 150 Rhodium pieces, or an equivalent value in rare, self-recharging magical items and planar secrets.
The Black Market of Portals and Shadowy Exchanges
In the hidden, dark corners of major cities or within subterranean megacities, illicit syndicates deal in salvaged or unblessed artifacts. These items are often stripped from fallen heroes or recovered from unstable void zones.
- Transaction Style: High-stakes haggling is mandatory, and the rule of buyer beware is absolute. Transactions are completed entirely inline using untraceable physical precious metals or raw magic crystals. The syndicates do not deal with the World Bank to avoid transaction fees and mandatory questioning.
- Cost Evaluation: A salvaged or unblessed version of the harness can sometimes be acquired for a lower rate of 60 to 80 Rhodium pieces. However, the purchase carries an extreme risk, as the ley-circuits may be unstable, and wearing an unblessed item of this tier might cause social ostracization or draw the hostile attention of the Voidborn.
Environmental Tactical Projections
Deep Ocean Trenches and Aquatic Realms
- Defense: While navigating the pitch-black abyssal plains of Saṃsāra, the central crystal core illuminates the shifting waters with dancing bioluminescent patterns, instantly tracking treacherous undercurrents and thermal vents. When confronted by massive leviathans, the Singularity Lock binds the avatar immovably to the seafloor, letting the pressurized water barrier absorb crushing tail swipes and kinetic currents that would otherwise smash an adventurer against jagged coral shelves.
- Offense: The Summon Minion 758 ability achieves its absolute peak efficiency here, as Minion #758 maneuvers with blinding swiftness through the water column to flank hostile deep-sea entities. By initiating Pulse of the Deep Earth, the wearer sends localized acoustic shockwaves ripping through the water, shattering the subterranean tremorsense of burrowing aquatic monsters and uncovering ancient, silt-covered vaults buried beneath the seabed.
Volcanic Caverns and Subterranean Faults
- Defense: Deep within the subterranean megacities, the Vigilant Seismograph passive sends constant, reassuring pulses directly into the wearer’s sternum, warning of shifting structural stress or a magma pocket breach minutes before a cave-in occurs. If a tunnel collapse triggers, the avatar can use Singularity Lock as a reaction, hardening the lightened granite plates to stand as an unyielding structural pillar, shielding squishier party members beneath their massive frame as stone sheets shatter against the harness.
- Offense: An avatar can deliberately slam their foot down to channel Pulse of the Deep Earth, destabilizing brittle basalt bridges or rock arches situated beneath enemy formations to drop rival factions into bottomless chasms. In close-quarters tunnel brawls, the wearer can activate Singularity Lock to pin a monstrous subterranean beast against a cave wall, trapping it in place while allies deploy devastating mechanical steam-weapons from absolute safety.
High-Altitude Airships and Floating Sky Islands
- Defense: When standing on the slippery, rain-slicked hulls of flying zeppelins or traversing high-altitude labyrinths, the supreme weight distribution of the harness completely counters gale-force winds and violent turbulence. Should the avatar be knocked over the edge of a floating sky island, the integrated impact bracing and fluid shield properties instantly soften the terminal deceleration velocity, allowing the wearer to survive high-altitude plunges that would liquefy a mundane traveler.
- Offense: During boarding actions between rival airships, the avatar can execute a Voidwalk Portal maneuver, instantly phasing through the armored hull plating and defensive wards of an enemy vessel to materialize directly inside the engine room. Once inside, the avatar can drop their structural anchor, locking themselves to the main power shaft where they can easily tear down steam-pulleys or withstand the counter-charges of the entire ship’s guard contingent.
Urban Metropolises and Paved Steampunk Districts
- Defense: In crowded skyscraper alleys or heavily patrolled port sectors, the harness continuously maps the magic power storage circuits and underground steam lines snaking beneath the cobblestone streets. If a riot erupts or a steam pipe bursts, the wearer stands completely rooted against trampling crowds, utilizing the Fluid Shield to effortlessly deflect stray crossbow bolts, mechanical shrapnel, and alchemical concussive blasts.
- Offense: By utilizing the Voidwalk Portal, the wearer can completely bypass city gates, warehouse security wards, and high-security faction vaults, allowing for flawless tactical insertions or strategic extractions during complex political operations. In melee confrontations on paved streets, an avatar can channel their kinetic momentum downward, sending a localized seismic tremor rippling through the cobblestones to stagger an entire squad of approaching city guards, ruining their line of approach.

- Geomantic Chisel Set: Resonance-tuned carving tools designed to alter and expand the existing stone spirals.
- Crystal Circuit Stylus: An expert-tier engraving instrument used to fuse the silver void runes directly with the underlying leyline pathways.
- Hydration Crucible: A specialized, pressurized chamber designed to liquefy the alchemical incense and celestial smoothie properties into a singular binding resin.
Skill Requirements
- Stoneweaving (Expert Level): Absolutely necessary to expand the structural slots of the granite harness without causing a catastrophic structural fracture under high pressure.
- Circuitry Inscription (Expert Level): Required to weave the silver runes of the void scroll into the existing geomantic circuits of the stone plates.
- Alchemical Crafting (Expert Level): Needed to refine the volatile sensory incense and nimbusite flakes into a chemically stable, glowing liquid compound.
- Arcane Mastery (Expert Level): Vital for comprehending the complex interdimensional incantations and directing the intense power flow without generating a wild magic storm.
Crafting Steps
- Deconstruct and Liquefy the Catalysts: Place the Sensory Augmentation Incense powder and the Nimbusite Starlit Smoothie Bowl into the hydration crucible. Seal the chamber and introduce high-pressure elementally driven steam to reduce the mixture into a glowing, hyper-concentrated amber-blue binding resin.
- Expose the Baselines: Submerge the Granite Heart Harness 391 in a basin of lithic twilight solvent for exactly one week. This deepens the pores of the lightened granite slabs, preparing the underlying geomantic circuits for complex multi-planar expansion.
- Unravel the Void Scroll: Unroll the Scroll of Voidwalk upon a stone altar. Using the crystal circuit stylus, trace the complex silver runes while chanting the forgotten vocabulary of Zorathar, extracting the raw void energy and transferring it into ten rhodium-thread filaments.
- Dissolve the Tidal Frame: Place the Pendant of Tidal Whispers onto the steam-forge anvil. Strike the silver frame using precise mechanical rotational power, shattering the outer casing so that the raw, luminescent coral core can absorb the lingering essence of Minion #758.
- Embed the Singularity Matrix: Mount the lightened granite plates back onto the harness frame. Using the geomantic chisels, carve a singular, deep circular slot directly into the center of the chest plate, matching the precise diameter of the luminescent coral.
- Align the Circuitry: Run the void-infused rhodium filaments through the harness’s original spiral pathways. Inscribe new interlocking lines that connect the central chest cavity to the shoulder and waist straps, ensuring that any items subsequently attached to the finished harness will occupy only this single physical gear slot.
- The Convergence Infiltration: Pour the liquefied alchemical resin directly into the central chest cavity. Drop the luminescent coral core into the center of the fluid, then position the massive Tier 5 Magic Crystal directly behind the forge setup to act as an grounding arcane battery.
- The Final Ritual Binding: Channel the power of thought through the completed conduit, initiating a normal chant with an audible flourish. The elements will violently swirl, magically drawing all five sub-components into a single, unified physical object. The amber-glowing circuits will flash with a brilliant violet light, permanently sealing the Vortex-Heart Singularity Harness.
Great Whirling-Ribbon Chest-Rock-Weave
Coded with 842
Hear the broken tellings, which fell from the split lips of the stone-strikers who sit in the dark moisture of the rock-holes, and which were scratched upon clay-boards that the high-waters later chewed into mud. The words come with crooked legs, as if they were once spoken by the frogs of the marsh in a breathing-tongue that the high gods have long since scrubbed from the sky, and then told again by children who knew nothing of the ancient shapes, and then lost into the great grey silence.
In the days when the islands were still soft like uncooked dough and the stars above wept raw drops of fat light into the great emptiness before the name-making, there was a city called Astralyn, which sat in the middle of a thin air-plain where the sky-vault changed its skins seven times in a day. The people of this place were called the Order of the Thin-Walking Path, and they had wide eyes that could see the purple fire that leaks out of magical tools, which normal men call the eye-mind. Among them was a man of long years named Zorathar, though the clay-boards sometimes call him the Heavy Listener of the Cliff-Edge. He was an Anuran, a frog-person whose chest was broad like the stone block that does not cry out when the big hammer bites it.
Zorathar had a great sickness of the mind, which was the wanting to walk through walls and to put his feet upon places he had not yet seen with his true eyes. He spoke to the void-worms that crawl in the spaces where there is no dirt, and he learned the crooked noises that make the physical world tear like an old shirt. He said to his kin, “We shall make a heavy coat of stone that is also a bucket of sea-water, and inside it we shall trap the starry smoke that turns a man into an echo, so that we may jump over the water-spaces and the wall-spaces without using our limbs or our boats.”
The elders of the stone-shops did not like his speech, and they threw words of warning at his face, saying, “The world is an island that sits upon a great turtle, and if you bore holes in the turtle’s shell to pass through the underneath, the great salt-waters will come in and drown the fires of the hearth.” But Zorathar closed his ears with wax and went into the deep quarry where the rocks have ears and hum when the sky changes.
He took three great slabs of the gray stone that stays light like a feather because it was washed in the juices of the moon-plants. Upon these slabs he scratched the crooked spirals of Gravok, who is the grandfather of the rocks, but because he had no priest to hold the chisel, the lines were rough and looked like the tracks of a wounded crab. To make the stone stay together on his chest, he took the thick skin of the swamp-beasts that had been boiled in the white smoke of the iron-pots until it was stiff like wood, and he bound the stone with iron chains that had been beaten by four men until they were red and screaming.
Then Zorathar went down into the wet darkness where the world has no bottom, into the charting-less deeps where the blue coral grows that breathes like a man’s throat. There he found a minion-thing, number seven hundred and fifty-eight in the books of the water-sorcerers, which was a creature made entirely of clear washing-water that had small shiny fish swimming inside its ribs. Zorathar fought the water-man for three sun-risings until the water-man became small and turned into a blue bead that smelled of old seaweed and wet sand.
To this bead, Zorathar added the golden dust of the nimbus-fruit, which grows only on the high trees that touch the bellies of the air-ships, and the gray powder of the waking-incense that the bug-people of Myrmosalux grind between their teeth under the crescent moon. He took a wide scroll that was written in silver marks that bit the eyes, and he laid all these things upon the stone chest-plate.
He took a great crystal that was big and heavy like the wagon that carries grain for the king’s horses, and he shouted the name of the void into the crystal until it cracked. A great wind came out of the cracks—a wind that had no color but smelled of thunder-strikes and dead stars. The wind grabbed the water-bead and the fruit-dust and the incense-smoke and mashed them into the center of the stone chest-plate, making a round hole that swirled like the great water-mouth that swallows boats in the eastern sea.
When Zorathar clamped the harness upon his ribs, the digital-marks eight-four-two appeared upon the stone like scabs. The harness hummed with a sound so low that the teeth of the sheep in the fields three miles away began to loosen in their gums. Zorathar became heavy like a mountain-root, so that his feet sank three inches into the solid basalt floor, but his mind became wide like the sky-vault. He saw the ley lines of the world as yellow ropes that tied the islands together, and he saw the fractures in the deep stone where the earth was tired of holding up the cities.
He laughed with a voice that sounded like stones rolling down a dry hill, and he stepped forward. He did not walk; he became an echo and passed through the mountain wall as if it were a cloud of bugs. He came out on a high sky-island where the people had wings instead of arms, and he took their gold pieces and their magic calendars without asking. He did not pay the one-percent tax to the World Bank because he did not use their doors or their gates, and this made the gold-god very angry.
Zorathar used the whirling chest-stone many times to jump between the seventy-four lands, and he grew proud like the king who thinks he made the sun rise with his own shouting. But the void-spaces do not like to be poked with silver runes. Every time Zorathar became an echo, a small piece of his flesh stayed behind in the grey spaces where there is no air. His skin turned grey like the quarry-granite, and his breath began to smell of salt-water and twilight roses. The water-man inside the stone core began to pull at his heart-strings, wanting to go back to the deep trench where there are no men.
The great fall came when Zorathar tried to jump the whole city of Astralyn across the sea-void to save it from the anger of the tax-collectors and the kings who rule by the child-reproducing laws. He stood in the Spire of Eternity with his harness glowing so bright that the guards went blind from the ultraviolet shine. He chanted the normal words with a great flourish that lasted for six ticks of the watch, and he struck the floor with his heel to make the Singularity Lock.
The world did not move; instead, the world broke. The silver runes on the void-scroll turned into red fire and ate the rhodium-thread filaments. The city of Astralyn was not moved to a new place; it was broken into a thousand tiny pebbles that fell into the sea like gravel dropped from a bucket. The frog-people were scattered across the seventy-three island countries, their tongues split into different noises and their memories filled with the grey fog of the forget-sickness.
Zorathar did not die, because the character-soul cannot be killed by rock-falls or water-drownings, but his avatar-vessel was turned into a heap of purple sparks that left nothing behind but a soul-crystal the size of a covered wagon and the broken chest-gear. The harness fell into a deep cave-system where the blind people live, and it lay there for three thousand years until its amber lights turned dim and looked like dead coals.
The story says that a young quarry-boy found it in the days when the steam-machines were first built with the magic power-circuits. He put his hands upon the granite plates, and the d4 dice of pain began to roll because his tier was too low for the legendary gear. His flesh began to leak health-points at irregular intervals, and he cried out to his clan, “The stone has teeth! It tells me that a wall is going to fall, but it eats my legs while it speaks!” His kin pulled the harness off his chest with iron hooks and laid it upon the altar of Gravok, where the priests re-etched the lines and gave it the name that is written in the books today.
The elders who tell this story in the winter-time, when the Helios-star goes down early and the moon Saṃsāra gets cold from the VaporSphere eclipse, say that the harness still waits for a master who has ten attuned items and a chest broad enough to carry the weight of five dead things.
The Moral of the Story: He who borrows the legs of the wind to escape the taxes of the earth will find that his feet turn to stone when he wishes to run home, for the balance of the world cannot be cheated by a crooked chisel or a silver rune.

- Voidwalk Phase (1/Long Rest): As an action, you instantly cast a modified version of the Misty Step spell, expanding the range to 60 feet and allowing you to pass directly through solid barriers, structures, or magical containment grids.
- Pulse of the Deep Earth (3/Long Rest): As an action, you concentrate for 1 minute. You instantly learn the exact distance and direction to any natural cavities, underground tunnels, hidden structures, or leyline junctions within a 60-foot radius.
- Singularity Anchor (2/Short Rest): As a reaction when you would take bludgeoning damage or be subjected to forced displacement, you lock your chassis into the ground. Until the start of your next turn, your speed becomes 0, you are immune to being moved or knocked prone, and you gain resistance to all bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
- System Weight Constraints: This item functions as heavy, rigid torso gear. If you attempt to use the Dash action or climb rapidly without specialized tools, you have disadvantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) and Dexterity (Stealth) checks until the start of your next turn cycle due to the loud, resonant subterranean hum.

If reduced to half health or fewer, it is broken and all passive and active magic bonuses are disabled until repaired with a steam-forge anvil.
