Lore

The Still-Shadow Talon 482 was birthed from the intersection of clandestine statecraft and monastic enlightenment. During the “Silent Coup” of the 73rd Island, a high-ranking Chimerafeline assassin sought a weapon that could strike with the finality of a predator while maintaining the unshakable mental clarity of a monk. By sacrificing their “Whispered Codex” to the elven weavers of the Hidden Grove, the assassin had their ritual Talon Blade woven directly into the fibers of a Shadowmeld Cloak. The result is a sentient armament that breathes with the wearer, calming their pulse even as it hunts, ensuring that the act of killing is as tranquil as a stone sinking into a placid lake.

Description

This item appears as a floor-length, hooded mantle made of shifting, light-absorbing Shadowweave cloth. Integrated into the right sleeve is an iridescent, curved blade crafted from eagle talons and lion’s claw core, which retracts seamlessly into the fabric when not in use. The cloak is embroidered with silver geometric patterns that hum with a low frequency, and its inner lining is perpetually cool to the touch. When activated, the blade glows with a soft silvery light, and the cloak emits a faint scent of damp moss and forest rain, while the rhythmic clicking of metal gears (remnants of the internal binding) syncs with the wearer’s heartbeat.

Multiple Passives Magic

  • The Lake’s Surface: The wearer is immune to the Frightened and Enraged conditions. Any racing thoughts or emotional turmoil are “dissolved” into the cloak’s psychic reservoir, granting a +3 bonus to all Concentration checks.
  • Shadowcam: While in dim light or darkness, the wearer is considered partially invisible. If the wearer remains stationary for more than one round, they become completely invisible until they move or attack.
  • Predatory Intuition: The integrated talon grants a +2 bonus to Initiative and allows the wearer to sense the heartbeat of any living creature within 40 feet, even through solid walls.

Multiple Active Magics

  • Whispering Shadow-Step (2/rest): The wearer can teleport up to 50 feet into a shadowed area. Upon arrival, they automatically trigger a “Whisper of Still Waters” pulse in a 10-foot radius, forcing enemies to succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom save or be Calmed (unable to take hostile actions) for 1 round.
  • Umbral Stillness (1/day): The wearer manifests a 20-foot radius of magical darkness centered on themselves for 5 minutes. While inside, the wearer’s attacks deal an additional 2d6 necrotic damage, and they regain 1d8 HP at the start of each turn as the “Still Waters” visualization mends their physical wounds.
  • Talon’s Triage: By tapping the hilt of the integrated blade, the wearer can cast a high-tier version of Identify on any physical object or magical ward, revealing its material value and structural weak points.

Specific Slot

  • Worn Item / Weapon: Back (Cloak) with Integrated retractable Main-Hand Weapon.

Structural Integrity and Restoration of the Still-Shadow Talon 482

To disable the magical properties of the Still-Shadow Talon 482, an attacker must specifically target the object to disrupt its physical and psychic resonance. The item possesses 195 Hit Points, calculated by its Resilience (65) multiplied by its Tier (3). Because it is a Tier 3 artifact, it also gains an Armor Class (AC) bonus equal to the wearer’s current AC plus 3; any attack roll falling below this number fails to damage the delicate Shadowweave or the integrated talon hilt.

If the item is reduced to 0 Hit Points, it is shattered. The blade snaps, and the cloak unravels into mundane, non-magical threads. If the item reaches 97 Hit Points (50%), it enters a “Frayed” state, where all active magics are disabled and passive bonuses are halved until repairs are conducted.

Repairing a Tier 3 hybrid of this complexity requires specific materials and environments:

  • Shadowweave Mending: The fabric can only be restitched using Moonlit Silver Thread. This must be done during a lunar event or within a Lunar Infusion Basin to restore its light-absorbing properties.
  • Talon Resharpening: If the integrated blade is notched, it must be honed using a Fine Sanding Stone infused with Bloodroot Resin. A successful Master Blacksmithing check is required to ensure the eagle-talon shards remain bonded to the lion-claw core.
  • Psychic Re-centering: If the mental “Still Waters” connection is severed, the wearer must perform a 4-hour meditation ritual involving the Whispered Codex or a similar meditative focus to re-attune the item’s psychic reservoir.
  • Automatic Recovery: As long as the item is not “Shattered” (0 HP), it will naturally recover 5 Hit Points every 24 hours if it is left in total darkness or direct moonlight, allowing the elven enchantments to slowly re-knit the fibers.

Acquisition and Commerce of the Still-Shadow Talon 482

The Still-Shadow Talon 482 is a Tier 3 artifact that bridges the gap between high-level infiltration gear and monastic relics. Because it is a hybrid of three distinct magical disciplines (Elven weaving, Beastcrafting, and Meditative psionics), it is rarely found in standard commercial environments.

Methods of Acquisition

  • The Ritual of Confluence: The most common way to obtain this item is to commission its creation. An avatar must provide the three base Tier 1 items—a Shadowmeld Cloak, a Talon Blade, and the Whisper of Still Waters (as a documented technique or codex)—along with 1,200 Gold in rare materials to a Master Weaver within an Elven forest enclave.
  • Chimerafeline Inheritance: These items are sometimes passed down through the high-ranking “Shadow-Paws” of the Animalia Guild. To inherit one, an avatar usually must complete a Trial of Stillness, proving they can maintain mental clarity while engaged in high-stakes predatory combat.
  • Salvage from Sanctuaries: Occasionally, these cloaks are found in the ruins of “Sunken Monasteries” or forgotten elven outposts in the backwoods. In these cases, the item is often found in a “Frayed” state, requiring significant investment to restore its Tier 3 potency.

Market Locations and Costs

In the world of Saṃsāra, Tier 3 items represent a significant jump in power and are priced to reflect their scarcity and the complex “Seller’s Market” of the 73 islands.

Elite Arcane Emporiums (Floating Metropolises)

  • Description: Located in the high-rent districts of cities like Aerith, these shops feature marble floors and anti-gravity display cases. The proprietor is likely a high-level mage who uses the Mind’s Eye to verify the buyer’s social standing.
  • Trade Style: Formal and documented. The sale includes a “Certificate of Origin” from an Elven Grove.
  • Cost: 3,500 to 4,200 Gold. Prices are highest here but the quality is guaranteed.

The Animalia Guild Secret Outfitter

  • Description: Often hidden behind the storefront of a mundane leatherworker or butcher in a major port city. It is accessible only to those who possess a Guild Token or a predator’s reputation.
  • Trade Style: Pragmatic and secretive. They may offer a discount if the buyer provides a fresh sample of Shimmerdrake or Chimerafeline materials.
  • Cost: 2,800 to 3,200 Gold. A discounted price of 2,200 Gold is offered to established Guild members.

The Shadowfell “Deep Market”

  • Description: A subterranean bazaar located in the “Dead Zones” of megacities. The lighting is non-existent, and transactions occur in whispers.
  • Trade Style: High risk, high reward. There is no guarantee of authenticity, and “Buyer Beware” is the absolute law. Haggling often involves trading secrets or “favors” alongside gold.
  • Cost: 2,400 to 4,500 Gold. The price fluctuates wildly based on how badly the seller needs to offload “hot” merchandise that may have been stolen from a high-ranking noble.

Fey-Run “Lunar” Markets

  • Description: These markets only appear during celestial alignments in remote forest clearings. The vendors are often non-humanoid spirits or fey.
  • Trade Style: Whimsical and metaphysical. Gold is accepted, but the fey may demand a portion of the buyer’s “inner noise” (mental stress) or a beautiful memory to seal the deal.
  • Cost: 2,500 Gold plus a “Significant Memory” or a “Major Favor” to be called upon at a later date.

Economic Impact

Owning a Tier 3 artifact like the Still-Shadow Talon 482 carries a social and fiscal burden. In most civilized islands, the wearer is required to pay a monthly “Artifact Assessment Fee” of 50 Gold to the local magistrate to maintain legal status for the weapon. Failure to pay can lead to the item being designated as “Contraband,” leading to its immediate seizure by the Gilded Abacus Society.

The Tranquil Executioner: Environmental Roleplay of the Still-Shadow Talon 482

The Still-Shadow Talon 482 transforms the avatar into a specter of absolute focus. Roleplaying this item involves a juxtaposition of the predator’s violent instinct and the monk’s serene detachment. The wearer does not experience the “heat” of battle; instead, they perceive combat as ripples on a lake that must be smoothed over.

Midnight in the Hanging Gardens (Urban/Floating Cities)

  • Defense: In the verticality of a floating metropolis, the wearer utilizes Monastic Finesse to navigate the underside of sky-bridges and the narrow ledges of towers. They roleplay the “Shadowcam” passive by pressing themselves into the ornate stonework of a noble’s villa, becoming a literal patch of darkness as a guard patrol passes inches away. If detected, the AC bonus is roleplayed as the cloak’s fibers thickening and absorbing the kinetic energy of crossbow bolts with a muffled thump.
  • Offense: Offense is a cold, calculated affair. Using Economic Lethality, the wearer identifies the guard with the weakest mental defense. They roleplay the Whispering Shadow-Step, vanishing from a rooftop and reappearing directly behind the target. As they emerge, the “Still Waters” pulse causes the target’s allies to momentarily forget why they are holding their weapons, allowing the wearer to deliver a 2d8 slashing strike that saps the target’s life force before they can even scream.

The Twilight Canopy (Dense Forests/Enchanted Groves)

  • Defense: Within its ancestral home, the cloak vibrates in harmony with the wind. The wearer roleplays the Predatory Intuition, closing their eyes and “feeling” the heartbeats of lurking jungle cats through the trees. When a predator leaps, the wearer doesn’t flinch; they roleplay the Lake’s Surface passive, their heart rate remaining at a resting pace as they fluidly sidestep the attack, guided by the cloak’s internal psychic dampening.
  • Offense: The wearer becomes an apex hunter. They roleplay the integrated talon blade extending with a silver chime, reflecting the dappled moonlight. Using the Talon’s Triage, they scan a giant spider’s web to identify the single anchor thread that, if cut, would collapse the entire nest. They strike with a blend of beastly ferocity and surgical precision, disappearing back into the foliage before the dust settles.

The Labyrinth of the Sunken Vaults (Dungeons/Underground)

  • Defense: In the crushing silence of subterranean ruins, the Umbral Stillness is the wearer’s greatest shield. They roleplay activating the 20-foot radius of magical darkness, turning a narrow corridor into a void where they are the only ones who can see. They roleplay the “Still Waters” visualization mending their cuts and bruises in real-time, the inner lining of the cloak pulsing with a soft, restorative warmth while enemies swing blindly into the dark.
  • Offense: The wearer uses the Identify function of the talon hilt to detect the magical “pulse” of ancient traps or the structural weak points of a stone door. In combat, they roleplay the necrotic damage of the blade as a “withering frost” that turns the internal organs of subterranean beasts to ash. Every kill is narrated not as an act of anger, but as a ritual of returning a “noisy” life to the “quiet” of the earth.

The Mist-Shrouded High Seas (Aquatic/Coastal)

  • Defense: Aboard a ship or a coastal pier, the wearer uses the cloak to absorb the grey mists, making them indistinguishable from the fog. They roleplay the Lake’s Surface immunity to stay calm during a terrifying kraken attack or a violent storm, maintaining their balance on a slippery deck with the +3 bonus to Acrobatics.
  • Offense: During a boarding action, the wearer “shadow-steps” from the rigging of their own ship to the shadowed corner of the enemy’s quarterdeck. They roleplay the integrated blade slicing through the enemy’s heavy leather armor as if it were parchment. After the “Talon’s Triage” reveals the value of the ship’s cargo, they focus their strikes on the officers, using the necrotic infusion of the blade to sap their strength and force a mathematical surrender.

The Shifting Sands (Deserts/Open Plains)

  • Defense: In environments with little natural cover, the wearer waits for the long shadows of dawn or dusk. They roleplay the “Shadowcam” passive by lying low against a dune, the cloak absorbing the harsh sunlight and turning it into a shimmering heat haze that masks their presence.
  • Offense: The wearer uses the open space to maximize the 50-foot range of the Whispering Shadow-Step. They roleplay a “strobe-light” style of combat, flickering in and out of existence across the dunes. Each time they reappear, they issue a pulse of serenity that leaves bandits confused and lethargic, allowing the wearer to execute a series of precision slashes that bring an end to the conflict with minimal “noise.”

Perception of Activation:

User’s Perspective

  • Sight: The world dims as the hood is raised, with the edges of the user’s vision fraying into a soft, monochromatic grey. The integrated blade flares with a cold, silvery luminescence, and the silver geometric embroidery on the sleeves begins to pulse with a rhythmic, amber light.
  • Sound: A sudden, heavy silence descends, as if the user is underwater. This is punctuated by a singular, deep thrum—the sound of a stone hitting a lake—followed by the faint, rapid clicking of micro-gears within the sleeve that syncs perfectly to the user’s heartbeat.
  • Touch: A wave of profound coolness washes over the skin, originating from the inner lining of the cloak. The weight of the garment seems to vanish, replaced by a sensation of being “buoyed” by the air. The grip of the integrated blade warms, feeling less like a tool and more like an extension of the user’s own skeletal structure.
  • Smell: A crisp, refreshing scent of rain-drenched moss and ozone fills the nose, cutting through any local environmental odors.
  • Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
    • The Still-Point: The user experiences a total cessation of internal “noise.” Anxiety, fear, and hesitation are physically felt leaving the body, replaced by a crystalline mental clarity.
    • Heartbeat Awareness: The user feels a rhythmic “tugging” in their Mind’s Eye, pinpointing the location and pulse-rate of every living creature within 40 feet, even through stone or wood.
    • Chrono-Stutter: During Shadow-Step, the user perceives a split-second where the world freezes into a still-life painting, allowing them to choose their destination with calm, mathematical certainty.

Observer’s Perspective

  • Sight: The wearer’s silhouette ripples and blurs, as if seen through rising heat. When the magical darkness activates, the wearer is swallowed by a void that seems to drink the light of the room. The silver embroidery glows with an eerie, predatory intensity.
  • Sound: A faint, hypnotic whispering sound, like dry leaves skittering across stone, accompanies the wearer’s movements. When the “Still Waters” pulse occurs, observers feel a sudden, jarring moment of peace that can be disorienting in a life-or-death situation.
  • Extra-Sensory: Those sensitive to magic feel a sudden “vacuum” in the local aether as the cloak draws in the ambient shadows.

Positives

  • Unshakeable Composure: The user can perform high-precision tasks or lethal strikes under extreme pressure without the risk of emotional interference.
  • Seamless Infiltration: The combination of muffled sound, light absorption, and heartbeat sensing makes the user the ultimate “ghost” in almost any environment.
  • Physical Restoration: The subtle healing from the “Still Waters” visualization allows the user to outlast opponents in prolonged skirmishes within the darkness.

Negatives

  • Emotional Detachment: Prolonged use can leave the avatar feeling “hollow” or sociopathic, as the cloak’s psychic reservoir continues to drain internal emotions even after combat ends.
  • The Ozone Tell: Despite the stealth, the sharp scent of rain and ozone is a distinct signature that can be tracked by creatures with a highly developed sense of smell.
  • Sensory Rebound: Upon deactivation, the sudden return of environmental noise and internal anxiety can cause a brief moment of intense disorientation or “sensory whiplash.”

The Weaver’s Still-Point Protocol: A Tier 3 Merging Ritual

Items Merged

Additional Materials Needed

  • 12 Hanks of Moonlit Silver Thread: To embroider the logic-gates that bind the psyche to the fabric.
  • 1 Vial of Bloodroot Resin: A bio-adhesive used to graft the eagle-talon and lion-claw components of the blade into the sleeve’s weave.
  • 3 Shards of a Psionic Tuning Crystal: To act as a bridge between the wearer’s mind and the “Still Waters” lake visualization.
  • Aether-Infused Solvent: To wash the Shadowweave fabric, sensitizing it to the necrotic energy of the blade.
  • 500 Gold in Alchemical Salts: Specifically crushed quartz and sea-salt for the purification of the merging environment.

Tools Required

  • Master’s Kinetic Loom: To weave the Shadowweave and Talon components into a single, seamless garment.
  • Spirit Binding Circle: A ritual space prepared on a floor of unworked stone to stabilize the mental imprints.
  • Precision Bone-Needle: Specifically from a predatory bird, used to stitch the integrated weapon hilt.
  • Lunar Infusion Basin: To soak the silver thread in the essence of a full moon before stitching begins.
  • Alchemist’s Crucible: For the steady heating of the Bloodroot Resin.

Skill Requirements

  • Master Tailoring (Level 3): Specifically for working with Shadowweave and reinforced Drakehide linings.
  • Adept Beastcrafting: To ensure the biological components of the Talon Blade do not rot within the fabric.
  • Intermediate Psionics/Mentalism: Required to “anchoring” the Still Waters visualization into the crystal shards.
  • Trained Runecrafting: To etch the geometric equations of the Ledger Warden (inherited logic) into the silver embroidery.

Crafting Steps

  1. The Lunar Soak: Place the silver thread in the Lunar Infusion Basin for one full night. The thread must be pulled out exactly at the moment of the moon’s zenith to retain the “Coolness” required for the Still Waters effect.
  2. Fabric Sensitization: Bathe the Shadowmeld Cloak in the Aether-Infused Solvent within the Spirit Binding Circle. This allows the dark fabric to “open” its pores to receive the necrotic and mental enchantments.
  3. The Blade Graft: Disassemble the Talon Blade. Coat the lion-claw core and eagle-talon shards in heated Bloodroot Resin. Using the Bone-Needle, stitch these components directly into the right forearm sleeve of the cloak, ensuring the hilt is accessible but hidden.
  4. Mental Anchoring: Place the Psionic Tuning Crystal shards at the base of the hood. The crafter must recite the Whisper of Still Waters visualization for six hours, funneling the “calm lake” energy into the crystals until they glow with a steady, monochromatic light.
  5. The Geometric Weave: Using the Kinetic Loom, embroider the silver geometric patterns across the shoulders and sleeves. These patterns must form a mathematical “circuit” that connects the blade’s predatory instinct to the hood’s mental stillness.
  6. The Binding Pulse: Activate the Spirit Binding Circle. The crafter performs a Normal spell casting flourish, striking the center of the circle with a heavy stone to symbolize the “stone in the lake.” This ripple effect locks the three items into the singular form of the Still-Shadow Talon 482.
  7. Final Stabilization: The merged item must be left to “rest” in total silence and absolute darkness for 48 hours. If any sound louder than a whisper enters the room, the mental anchoring may fail, resulting in a “Frayed” item.

Quiet-Dark Sharp-Bird-Arm 482

The First Words: The Man of the Loud Blood It is written in the dirt of the old times, before the sky-water learned how to fall in a straight line, that there was a walking-man of the Many-Beast tribe. His name in the mouth-sounds of that day was He-Who-Steps-Like-The-Cat-But-Is-Loud. This man was a maker of the death. He possessed the great treasures of the world. Upon his back, he wore the Cloth that Eats the Sun (which the new tongues call the Shadowmeld Cloak). Upon his gripping-meat, he held the Tooth of the Eagle-Lion (which the new tongues call the Talon Blade).

Because he had the Cloth that Eats the Sun, the light of the day would slide off his body like water sliding off a greased leaf. Because he had the Tooth of the Eagle-Lion, his hand was as fast as the striking snake and cut the wind itself into bleeding pieces. But the man had a great sickness of the inside-head. His blood was loud. His brain was a box of angry flying bugs.

When he did the hiding in the dark, his anger made a noise that the shadow-creatures could hear. Thump-thump, thump-thump, went the drum in his chest. Because of his loud blood, he could not do the perfect killing. The guards of the Great Iron Warlord would hear the anger of his heart and shoot the flying-sticks (arrows) at him. He-Who-Steps-Like-The-Cat-But-Is-Loud was having a great frustration. “I am the master of the dark,” he shouted at the rocks. “Why does the dark not keep my secrets?”

The Second Words: The Walking of Many Sun-Circles A wise bird, who was perhaps a spirit of the wind or just a bird who had eaten a magic bug, spoke to the man. The bird said, “Your hand is sharp, and your back is hidden, but your mind is a falling mountain. You must seek the People of the Long Ears who live in the Trees of No Sound. They hold the magic of the Word of the Not-Moving Wetness.”

The man did a walking. He walked for four-hands of sun-circles (twenty days). He walked over the dirt that is hot, and he walked over the dirt that is cold. He ate the roots of the ground and fought the beasts of the middle-places. Finally, he came to the Trees of No Sound. The leaves of these trees did not do the rustling. The wind blew, but the trees refused to make the music of the wind. Here, the People of the Long Ears (who are the Elves) lived in the high branches.

The Chief of the Long Ears climbed down. He looked at the man’s angry face. “You bring loud blood to the quiet place,” the Chief said. “You wear the shadows like a heavy rock. You hold the beast-tooth like a frightened child holds a stick.”

He-Who-Steps-Like-The-Cat-But-Is-Loud showed his teeth. “Give me the magic of the Not-Moving Wetness. I will give you shiny yellow circles.”

The Chief did the shaking of his head. “The quiet mind cannot be bought with yellow circles. The quiet mind must be sewed into your skin. You must give us the Cloth. You must give us the Tooth. We will take the Book of the Flat Water (The Whispered Codex), and we will do the smashing and the joining. But you will not be the same meat-body when we are finished.”

The Third Words: The Tying of the Three Things The man gave them his treasures. The People of the Long Ears took the items to the deep hole under the roots of the oldest tree. They brought the Book of the Flat Water. This book was not paper, but thin pieces of stone that whispered when you looked at them.

The weavers of the magic gathered. They put the Cloth that Eats the Sun on a table of white stone. They took the Tooth of the Eagle-Lion and they did a terrible thing. They broke the holding-part (the hilt) and placed the sharp-part directly onto the arm-hole of the Cloth. Then, they brought out the string that is made from the tears of the moon.

For three turnings of the big light and the small light, they did the sewing. They sang a song that sounded like a fish going to sleep at the bottom of a cold lake. They took the whispering words from the stone book and they pushed the words into the silver thread. They stitched the geometry of the counting-gods into the fabric. They used the sticky-blood of the red root (Bloodroot Resin) to make the beast-tooth stick to the shadow-cloth forever.

When the sewing was done, they struck the center of the cloth with a heavy river-stone. Bong. The sound made a ripple in the air. The three things forgot they were three things. They remembered they were one thing. The Chief of the Long Ears held up the new thing. It was the Quiet-Dark Sharp-Bird-Arm Four-Hundred-Eight-Tens-Two (The Still-Shadow Talon 482).

The Fourth Words: The Putting On of the Quiet “Put your meat-arm inside,” the Chief said.

He-Who-Steps-Like-The-Cat-But-Is-Loud put his arm into the sleeve. Instantly, the loud drum in his chest stopped doing the banging. The angry bugs in his head went to sleep. The man closed his eyes. He did not see the blackness. He saw a flat lake of water that did not move. When he had a thought of anger, the thought was a stone that fell into the lake and disappeared.

His eyes opened. The edges of the world were grey, but he could see the ghost-hearts of the Elves beating in their chests. The sharp-tooth was now a part of his hand, hiding inside the cloth until he willed it to bite. He smelled the rain that had not yet fallen. He was no longer He-Who-Steps-Like-The-Cat-But-Is-Loud. He was The-Water-That-Cuts.

The Fifth Words: The Test of the Blood-Drinker The-Water-That-Cuts returned to the fortress of the Great Iron Warlord. The Warlord sat upon a chair made of the bones of his enemies, surrounded by fifty guards holding sticks of fire.

The-Water-That-Cuts did not do the sneaking. He stood at the edge of the light. He activated the magic of the Whispering Jump-of-the-Shadow. In the time it takes a fly to blink, his body became a smoke of nothing, and he appeared directly behind the chair of the Warlord.

As he appeared, the magic of the Flat Water pushed outward from the cloak. It was a wave of the absolute quiet. The fifty guards felt the wave. Their anger melted like snow on a hot rock. They looked at their sticks of fire and forgot why they wanted to burn things. They stood still, their minds trapped in the peaceful lake.

The Warlord turned around, his face twisting with the loud blood of fear. But The-Water-That-Cuts felt no excitement. He felt no anger. He looked at the Warlord with the Mind’s Eye and saw the numbers of the Warlord’s life. The numbers were very small.

The silver shapes on the cloak pulsed with the amber light of the counting-gods. The integrated beast-tooth slid from the sleeve, glowing with the sick-light of the dead places (necrotic energy). With the smoothness of a fish swimming through clear water, The-Water-That-Cuts swung his arm.

The beast-tooth cut through the iron armor, through the loud meat, and through the soul of the Warlord. The Warlord fell. He did not make a sound, because the cloak ate the noise.

The-Water-That-Cuts looked at the fifty guards. They were still staring at the walls, enjoying the peace of the magic lake. He pulled his hood over his head. The cloak drank the light of the room, and he melted into the floor-shadows, leaving nothing behind but the smell of damp moss and the end of a war. He walked into the history of the dirt, a ghost of perfect math and quiet death.

The End of the Words

The Moral of the Telling: The man who fights with the shouting mouth and the beating drum will only cut the air, but the man who makes his mind like the puddle of dead water will cut the mountain itself, for the loudest weapon is the one that has forgotten how to make a noise.
