Search 118 of the Chrysanthemum Dipped Anointing Aspergillum

Lore

  • In the sun-blessed valleys and hillside terrace-vineyards of Saṃsāra, lost things are not considered taken by malice or hidden out of shame; rather, tradition teaches that lost objects have merely wandered out of the grace of sight.
  • Among the agrarian devotees of the Satsnakheli order, Search Magic was refined not as an intrusive probing of shadows, but as an act of sacramental consecration, anointing the forgotten world until hidden truths shine forth under divine benevolence.
  • Lineage designation 118 belongs to a line of ritual aspergillums consecrated in hillside vats of white wine, sun-steeped autumn chrysanthemums, and holy river water, designed for mendicant sanctuary-keepers, midwife-healers, and pilgrimage guides.
  • Rather than sensing bitterness or cold greed, this holy sprinkler responds to the quiet spiritual resonance of preservation, blessing the air with golden droplets that reveal concealed relics, missing children, buried seeds, and sanctified thresholds.
  • Avatars bearing this aspergillum embody a serene, merciful presence, acting on the conviction that whatever is sought with a pure, faithful heart has already been granted divine leave to be found.

Description

  • The aspergillum measures roughly seven inches in length, crafted from warm, beaten white-brass alloy polished to a soft golden luster, chased along the handle with blooming chrysanthemum vines and radiant sun-rays.
  • Its perforated bulb head is cast in the shape of a swelling chrysanthemum bud, perforated with seven fine, star-shaped apertures designed to disperse holy oils or sun-water in a gentle, misting fan.
  • The hollow reservoir inside the bulb contains a cluster of dried white chrysanthemum petals soaked in fragrant sanctified oil, which softly rattle against the perforated walls when shaken.
  • Set into the pommel-finial of the handle is a tiny Tier 1 magic crystal—a milky, sun-kissed citrine cabochon that pulses with a gentle, honey-colored warmth when held aloft during prayer.
  • Peering at surfaces dampened by the aspergillum’s mist does not reveal harsh seams; instead, concealed compartments, lost heirlooms, and buried keepsakes illuminate under a soft, shimmering halo of golden dust motes.
  • The entire focus carries an enduring, comforting fragrance of sun-dried autumn chrysanthemums, pure wild honeycomb, crushed olive oil, and clean river stones.

Tactical Roleplay of the Chrysanthemum-Dipped Anointing Aspergillum Across the Environments of Saṃsāra

  • Subterranean Crypts, Ancient Catacombs, and Desecrated Tombs:
    • Environmental Context: Sunless burial corridors, suffocating gloom, cursed reliquaries, collapsing stonework, and lurking wraiths or predatory vermin.
    • Defensive Roleplay:
      • Advancing through dark catacombs steeped in supernatural dread, Shield of the Anointed radiates a gentle aura that steels companions against sudden panic, dispelling oppressive psychic chills and preventing low-tier fear effects from breaking the party’s formation.
      • When cornered in a sealed burial chamber with an unseen threat, the avatar executes Benediction of the Unbroken Circle. Tracing droplets around the party’s footing creates a glowing barrier; any malevolent trigger-stones or floor spikes flare with a soft amber warning light, while invisible specters attempting to pass into the circle are instantly outlined in sparkling golden pollen-dust, ruining their ambush.
    • Offensive Roleplay:
      • Seeking the entombed heart of an ancient saint or a holy seal hidden within crumbling masonry, the wielder invokes Golden Dew of Revelation. The fine mist settles over the sepulchers, causing the seams of a false sarcophagus to glow with a welcoming, honeyed halo that reveals the hidden latch without disturbing profane traps.
      • If a companion is dragged away into hidden burial crawlspaces by crypt ghhouls, the user activates Compassionate Tether. Kissing the citrine pommel releases a delicate golden filament that snakes along the stone floor, guiding the rescue party directly through labyrinthine tunnels to the missing ally’s location.
  • Crowded Pilgrim-Highways, Wayside Caravanserais, and Besieged Refugee Camps:
    • Environmental Context: Chaos of displaced pilgrims, dense wayside crowds, roadside cutpurses, lost children, and covert saboteurs poisoning wells.
    • Defensive Roleplay:
      • While resting among anxious refugees during a border blockade, the avatar moves among the tents; Sacramental Scent of Grace fills the air with the comforting fragrance of wild honeycomb and autumn flowers, subduing hysterical outbursts and granting allies emotional clarity to negotiate safe passage.
      • In a crowded waystation where an infiltrator attempts to spread contact poisons or hexed tokens among traveler supplies, Benediction of the Unbroken Circle exposes tainted grain-sacks and poisoned water-casks with a telltale amber luminescence, neutralising the saboteur’s plot before it claims lives.
    • Offensive Roleplay:
      • In the panic of an unruly bazaar or refugee camp riot, a terrified child or crucial messenger becomes separated. Whispering their name through Compassionate Tether, the avatar follows the drifting golden line as it weaves through stampeding pack beasts and packed alleys, bringing the searcher straight to the hiding spot beneath an overturned wagon.
      • When investigating an extortionist caravan master claiming they have no medicine or grain to spare for the sick, a flick of the wrist releases Golden Dew of Revelation. The mist floats over the wagons, instantly illuminating the concealed trapdoor in the cart-bed where confiscated medicine crates are hidden.
  • Dense Mountain Briers, Fog-Choked Ravines, and Trackless Alpine Forests:
    • Environmental Context: Heavy freezing mist, treacherous cliff-edges, tangled thorns, disorienting terrain, and lost mountaineers trapped beneath rockfalls.
    • Defensive Roleplay:
      • Wandering through freezing alpine drizzle, Providence of the Wayfarer guides the avatar’s steps, turning intuition toward safe footing along crumbling shale ridges and revealing sheltered cave alcoves or sweet, unpolluted mountain springs hidden behind mossy boulders.
      • When unnatural predatory beasts or stalkers stalk the party through thick fog, swinging the aspergillum to release the warm scent of sun-dried chrysanthemums banishes panic, allowing archers and spellcasters to maintain their composure and hold defensive positions.
    • Offensive Roleplay:
      • After a sudden landslide buries a pilgrim cart, the avatar activates Compassionate Tether, asking to find living souls buried beneath the scree. The golden thread dips directly into the stone rubble, pinpointing an air pocket where a traveler is pinned, saving hours of blind digging in freezing temperatures.
      • Hunting elusive woodland bandits or poachers hiding in camouflaged brush blinds, the avatar flings Golden Dew of Revelation forward. The shimmering droplets coat the foliage, outlining hidden tripwires, concealed deadfalls, and the boughs shielding enemy lookouts in conspicuous golden light.
  • Flooded Estuaries, Toxic Silt-Marshes, and Stagnant Canal-Ruins:
    • Environmental Context: Putrid water, disorienting reeds, sinkholes, infectious ditch-miasma, and predatory swamp horrors.
    • Defensive Roleplay:
      • Traversing stagnant marshes, Providence of the Wayfarer warns the wielder away from treacherous false-turf sinkholes and leads the expedition toward edible water-chestnuts and clean, drinkable rainwater pockets pooling on broad lotus leaves.
      • When toxic swamp gas or sickening miasma threatens to sicken the march, the ambient presence of Shield of the Anointed steadies the party’s breathing and morale, mitigating the lethargic despair commonly induced by dismal swamplands.
    • Offensive Roleplay:
      • Searching for a holy reliquary lost beneath murky swamp water after a barge shipwreck, the avatar sweeps the water’s surface with Golden Dew of Revelation. The honeyed mist settles upon the muddy surface, illuminating the submerged outline of the iron-bound shrine box gleaming through three feet of brackish water.
      • If an ally sinks into a deep peat bog or is drawn into underwater reed labyrinths by aquatic predators, Compassionate Tether pierces the opaque brown water with a steady, luminous beam, providing an unmistakable guide-line for rescue hooks and divers to pull the victim to safety.

Perception of Activation:

  • User’s Perspective:
    • Sight:
      • Flicking the white-brass stem releases a scattering fan of micro-droplets that catch ambient illumination, igniting into shimmering golden trails in mid-air.
      • The milky citrine pommel-stone flares with a steady, honey-gold luminescence, casting warm, circular reflections across the user’s forearm and fingers.
      • Concealed compartments, hidden keepsakes, lost tracks, and forgotten doorways do not appear as harsh architectural cuts; instead, they are outlined in a gentle, radiant halo of sparkling, sunlit dust motes that softly accent their contours.
    • Sound:
      • The dried chrysanthemum petals inside the perforated bulb rustle with a delicate, dry whisper, like autumn leaves turning in a warm breeze.
      • A low, resonant chime—resembling a distant temple bell or water dripping into a brass basin—echoes quietly in the wielder’s inner ear each time a sought truth or threshold is blessed.
    • Touch:
      • The beaten white-brass handle warms immediately against the palm, radiating a soothing, fever-dispelling heat that eases joint stiffness and tremors.
      • A soft, tingling sensation of calm relaxation spreads from the hand up through the shoulder, as though dipping one’s fingers into a sun-warmed mineral spring.
    • Smell:
      • The air directly surrounding the user blossoms with a rich, comforting perfume of sun-dried white chrysanthemums, warm wild honeycomb, crushed olive oil, and river-washed stones.
    • Taste:
      • The tongue experiences a fleeting, pleasant sweetness reminiscent of clear clover honey, floral spring water, and mild white wine, banishing stale or bitter tastes from the mouth.
    • Extra-Sensory Perception:
      • Grace-Attuned Empathy: The user feels an intuitive, uplifting emotional pull toward that which was lost or forgotten, sensing the relief and lingering affection tied to the object rather than panic or greed.
      • Sanctuary Lucidity: A serene, meditative stillness settles over the user’s mind, clearing away frantic urgency, panic, and clouded judgment to reveal the most peaceful, direct path forward.
      • Dissolution of Shadows: Hostile intentions and lurking malice feel heavy, clumsy, and discordant against the user’s awareness, making hidden hostility stand out like soot against freshly fallen snow.
  • Observer’s Perspective:
    • Sight:
      • Observers witness the seven star-shaped apertures of the brass bud gleam with internal golden light before discharging an arc of luminous, mist-like droplets.
      • As the droplets settle, disguised seams, sealed alcoves, or missing trails illuminate with a welcoming, amber-gold glow visible to everyone present.
      • The wielder appears framed in a soft, sun-kissed bloom of warm light, making their movements look poised, tranquil, and deliberate.
    • Sound:
      • Companions hear the soft, rhythmic swish of the aspergillum and the faint, papery rustle of the sacred petals within the bulb.
      • A subtle, harmonic vibration hums through the room, calming tense breathing and quiet murmurs.
    • Touch:
      • Those standing close to the bearer feel a dry, gentle warmth wash over them, like stepping from a damp shadow into a patch of midday autumn sun.
    • Smell:
      • The sharp, musty odors of moldering ruins, tomb dust, or stagnant bilge are instantly pushed back by an uplifting fragrance of fresh autumn blossoms and sweet honey.
    • Taste:
      • Nearby allies notice their mouths feel refreshed and clean, as if breathing air laced with fragrant herbal vapors.
    • Extra-Sensory Perception:
      • Observers feel an immediate de-escalation of tension; heart rates steady, instinctive distrust softens, and a quiet sense of hope and safety takes root among the group.
  • Positives:
    • Benevolent Group Visibility:
      • Unlike solitary divination lenses, the golden highlights produced by the mist are visible to all allies, allowing the entire party to coordinate without verbal explanations.
    • Morale and Fear Resistance:
      • The calming sensory aura bolsters confidence, steadying allies against environmental dread, panic, and supernatural despair.
    • Living Creature and Shelter Tracking:
      • The spiritual resonance naturally aligns toward life and safety, making the tool exceptional at locating lost travelers, trapped survivors, clean water, and safe shelter.
    • Harmonious Social Impact:
      • Using the item in public does not provoke suspicion or defensive hostility; onlookers view its activations as pastoral rites or sincere blessings rather than invasive espionage.
  • Negatives:
    • Conspicuous Visual and Olfactory Profile:
      • The sparkling golden mist, glowing citrine pommel, and sweet honeyed fragrance make covert use almost impossible in pitch darkness or near scent-sensitive predators.
    • Moisture Dependency:
      • The active mists require a reservoir of pure water, wine, or oil; if completely parched of liquid, the item cannot project its revelation mists until replenished.
    • Reluctance Toward Profane Traps:
      • Because the item responds to benevolence, preservation, and grace, it does not actively “pull” toward malicious or desecrated curses unless they directly block the path of shelter or rescue.
    • Vulnerability to Putrid Desecration:
      • Direct exposure to thick sewage, necrotizing fluids, or swamp mud temporarily clogs the star apertures and dampens the citrine’s warmth, requiring a thorough washing in clean water to restore full function.

Crafting Recipe: Chrysanthemum-Dipped Anointing Aspergillum

  • Materials Needed:
    • 4 ounces of high-purity white-brass ingot (a ductile alloy of copper and refined zinc with a soft, pale-gold luster).
    • 1 Tier 1 magic crystal (a cloudy, sun-kissed citrine cabochon cut into an oval finial, roughly the size of a hazelnut kernel).
    • 1 dried mountain gallnut or hazelnut kernel (hollowed, used as an acoustic counterweight on the hanging cord).
    • 1 eight-inch cord of twisted black hemp thread and 1 eight-inch ribbon of gold-dyed silk.
    • 1 handful of dried white autumn chrysanthemum petals (Chrysanthemum morifolium), sun-dried upon woven reed mats.
    • 2 drams of cold-pressed holy olive oil infused with wild wildflower honey.
    • 4 ounces of consecrated white hill-wine or sun-warmed spring water (used for the quenching bath and attunement reservoir).
    • 1 pinch of fine silver brazing solder and borax powder flux.
  • Tools Required:
    • 1 Small benchtop forge or jewelers’ melting furnace with a clay-graphite crucible.
    • 1 Two-part repoussé pitch bowl, chasing hammers, and an assortment of round-faced planishing punches.
    • 1 Set of precision curved gravers and fine needle files (for cutting chrysanthemum petal reliefs and sun-flare motifs).
    • 1 Jewelers’ hand drill or pin-vise with seven graduated star-piercing punch bits (for perforating the mist apertures).
    • 1 Lapidary bezel-roller and burnisher (for setting the citrine pommel stone).
    • 1 Fine wire brass-brush and cerium oxide polishing lap.
  • Skill Requirements:
    • Metalsmithing & Brass Founding: Minimum skill rank of 3 (required to cast the hollow bulb, chase the floral repoussé, and braze the two halves of the head without blocking the mist channels).
    • Lapidary & Gem-Setting: Minimum skill rank of 2 (required to cut, polish, and bezel-mount the citrine cabochon cleanly into the pommel).
    • Sacred Botany & Herbal Consecration: Minimum skill rank of 2 (required to properly cure the chrysanthemum petals and blend the honeyed anointing oils without spoiling).
    • Mind’s Eye Divination / Search Magic (Sacramental Discipline): Minimum skill rank of 2 (required to weave the spiritual current of divine favor, unmerited grace, and revelatory light into the brass matrix).
  • Crafting Steps:
    • Casting and Piercing the Perforated Bulb:
      • Melt the white-brass alloy in the crucible and cast two matching hemispherical shells to form the swelling chrysanthemum bud.
      • Anneal the brass cups in the forge, then mount them into the pitch bowl to chase delicate vertical petal grooves along the outer curves.
      • Use the pin-vise and star-shaped punch bits to drill seven symmetrical star apertures through the upper hemisphere in a radiant radial pattern.
      • Deburr the interior of each aperture with needle files to ensure a smooth, misting spray rather than heavy dripping.
    • Forming the Handle and Pommel Collar:
      • Forge the remaining white-brass into a hollow seven-inch fluted stem, tapering gently from the bulb neck down to the pommel.
      • Grave blooming chrysanthemum vines, spiraling Borjgali sun-wheels, and ray motifs along the grip section with fine chasing tools.
      • Fabricate a four-prong or rolled-edge circular bezel cup at the pommel end to receive the citrine crystal.
      • Braze the lower hemisphere of the bulb to the top collar of the fluted handle using silver solder and borax flux, then clean the fire-scale in a warm vinegar bath.
    • Preparing the Reservoir and Setting the Pommel:
      • Take the cluster of sun-dried white chrysanthemum petals and lightly coat them in the honeyed anointing oil.
      • Pack the treated petals loosely inside the hollow bulb cavity, ensuring they can shift and rustle against the brass walls when shaken.
      • Align the upper perforated dome with the lower hemisphere and braze them shut along the waist seam with a fine jewelers’ torch, taking care not to scorch the fragrant petals inside.
      • Seat the sun-kissed citrine cabochon firmly into the pommel bezel cup, burnishing the white-brass rim over the stone’s girdle to lock it in place.
      • Tie the gold silk ribbon and the black hemp cord with the dried gallnut counterweight through the lanyard loop just beneath the pommel collar.
    • Satsnakheli Consecration and Attunement:
      • Fill a shallow silver basin with consecrated white wine diluted with clean spring water and fresh chrysanthemum blossoms.
      • Submerge the assembled aspergillum into the basin at dawn so the reservoir drinks the holy liquid through the star apertures.
      • Lay both palms over the vessel, attuning the Mind’s Eye to the concept of grace, the recovery of that which was lost, and the peace of sanctuary.
      • Channel energy until the citrine pommel flares with a warm, honey-colored light, the rustling petals emit a burst of wildflower fragrance, and the liquid inside the basin begins to sparkle with faint golden luminescence, completing the bonding of the search implement.

Ninefold Gates and Lost Seed-Pearl
How Shepherdess found Golden Water

In the time when the sky was a different blanket, before the big stones fell from the air, the world was too full of fog. The truths were hiding. A man could not see his own feet if he stood up too high. The river was a gray animal, and the trees were shadows that moved without wind. The hearts of the dwellers were also foggy. They believed that when a thing was gone, it was dead, and that the darkness ate the light every evening.

In a village built of terraced mud, where the barley was short and the cows were sad, there lived a girl child of no account. The tablet calls her “Shepherdess-who-has-nothing,” though a later scratch says “Grace-touches-the-ground.” She possessed not even a copper ring, nor a pair of whole sandals. Her job was to watch the three thin goats of the headman, goats that preferred to eat stones rather than grass. She lived on the mountain-side, sleeping in a hole like a fox, and her only friends were the winds and the white autumn mums that grew where the snow melted first.

Now, the Big Leader of this village was a man of very tight hands, whom the translation calls “Lord-of-Closed-Fists.” He had many gold disks and silver wires, which he kept in clay pots buried in his cellar. He had also a daughter, who was smooth and fat because she ate all the butter. This daughter had a wedding coming.

For this wedding, the Great King of the River-Gate—a place of much shining brass—sent a gift. The gift was a single pearl. But it was not a sea-pearl. It was a seed-pearl of the divine tree, found only in the navel of the world. It was white as milk, round as the full moon, and it contained the blessing of eternal spring. To have it was to have harvest forever. To lose it was to have the big winter.

The Big Leader’s daughter, in her folly, took the seed-pearl out of its soft velvet bag to show it to the pigs, to make them jealous. But a fat pig snorted. The daughter jumped. The seed-pearl fell. It rolled. It did not stop. It rolled away from the smooth flagstones of the manor. It rolled onto the muddy path. It rolled into the deep, thorny briers of the hillside, and there the fog swallowed it.

Then there was a loud crying in the manor. The Big Leader tore his wool coat. The daughter tore her smooth veil. The guards came with heavy iron bars and torches, and they went into the briers. They smashed the bushes. They dug the earth with their swords. They broke the fences. They beat the mud. They looked for three days and three nights. They found many bugs, and many sharp rocks, and three old shoes, but they did not find the seed-pearl. For the fog was thick, and the briers were angry.

The Big Leader sat in his gate and groaned, for he knew the divine pearl could not be found with force, and now his daughter would have only an ordinary wedding, and his barley would always be short.

At this time, there lived in the village an old holy person, whom the tablet calls “Mendicant-who-knows-silence.” This person did not speak with words, but with their eyes. This person owned only one item. It was not gold, nor iron. It was a tool of beaten white-brass, looking like the closed bud of a mum-flower. It had seven star-holes at the top. The pommel of the handle had a small, milky stone, yellow as honey. This tool was designated by the translation as “The-Thing-that-Throws-Golden-H2O.”

The holy person saw Shepherdess-who-has-nothing crying on the mountain-side because the goats had eaten her mum-blossoms. The holy person did not give her bread. They gave her the brass mum-flower. They showed her how to pour pure mountain-wine into the bud, and they made the sign that she must not look with desire, but with mercy.

Shepherdess-who-has-nothing took the item. She did not know what it was. She thought it was a toy for children. She sat near the thorny briers where the Big Leader’s guards had smashed everything. She felt sorry for the briers, which were now broken and dying in the fog.

She poured the wine into the brass bulb, and she stood before the darkness. She did not yell at the pearl to come out. She did not beat the mud with a stick. She began to sing the small song she sang to her goats at sunset.

And as she sang, she flicked the brass wand in a gentle arc.

Then a miracle happens in the text.

The translation says: “The brass made a water that was also fire.” The tiny droplets did not fall as wetness. They scattered in the air like dust of the sun, making golden pathways in the fog. Wherever this golden mist touched, the broken briers did not catch fire; they began to shine with an inner light.

The Shepherdess did not look at the mud. She did not look for white. She looked only with compassion for the lost things.

And in the very center of a patch of broken, illuminated briers, the mist of grace settles. The text says: “The pearl does not hide. It glows. It is a star in the dirt.” The seed-pearl of the divine tree, washed by the golden water, shone with a halo so bright that even the fog was pushed back. It did not look dirty, for it had been blessed by the golden H2O.

Shepherdess-who-has-nothing reached into the briers, but the thorns did not scratch her, for they had also been blessed and were soft as wet leaves. She took the pearl. It felt warm, like honeyed milk, in her palm.

She went to the Big Leader’s gate. The Big Leader saw her and said, “Go away, you goat-smelling rat! If you want butter, you must work.”

But Shepherdess-who-has-nothing opened her hand.

The Big Leader fell on his face, for the pearl was so bright it illuminated his cellar. His daughter ran out and snatched the pearl, and she screamed, “It is mine! It was just waiting for me to come and take it!”

But when the daughter takes the pearl, the text becomes confused. It says: “The pearl becomes black stone.” The pearl, when held with greed, lost its spring and its light. The daughter began to cry, “The shepherdess gave me a fake! It is a poison!”

The village elders came and looked, and they were afraid. They called the holy person, who was chewing on a dry mum-leaf. The holy person walked into the manor, and the guards were too afraid to stop them, for the pommel of the brass mum-flower was now pulsing with honey-gold warmth.

The holy person took the black stone from the daughter’s greasy hand and gave it to Shepherdess-who-has-nothing.

When the pearl touches the girl’s palm, it became white again, as if the moon had returned.

Then the holy person made many signs.

“You cannot have the blessing of spring with tight fists,” the translation reads. “This seed-pearl is the gift of the unmerited grace. It will not stay with greed. It will not stay with force. It belongs only with the hand that found it, because that hand looked with mercy.”

Then the Big Leader, fearing for his harvest, declared, “This shepherdess is not a goat-watcher. She is now the Keeper of the Pearl. Let her live in the manor and eat the good barley, so that the pearl keeps its light.”

But Shepherdess-who-has-nothing shook her head. She did not want to live in the manor. She did not want to eat the short barley. She picked up the brass mum-flower and took the pearl, and she walked back up the mountain. She did not want for gold.

The pearl, having its blessing, grew into the Divine Tree of the Mountain-Navel, which the translation calls the “Tree-that-Keeps-Winter-Away.” Its leaves were always green, its flowers were always white, and it radiated the fragrance of wild honeycomb, making the mountain a sanctuary for all lost things.

Shepherdess-who-has-nothing lived under the tree, and whenever the world became foggy or things were wanders-out-of-the-grace-of-sight, she would pour the golden water with her brass mum-flower, and the golden trails would guide her, not to desire, but to peace. And when she died, her spirit did not go into the mud; it became the honey-gold light of the citrine pommel, forever guiding those who search with a benevolent heart.

Moral of the Story

He who digs the earth with iron and fury to take what he thinks is his own shall find only broken thorns and heavy mud; but the soul that approaches the lost with mercy, pouring the golden water of grace and blessing the air with the scent of the chrysanthemum, shall find not only what they seek, but the eternal spring that can never be hidden.
