Lore
- Originally tailored for municipal arbiters, estate barristers, and diplomatic envoys in the sprawling civic courts of Saṃsāra, this neckpiece was commissioned to settle contested wills, trade pacts, and territorial treaties.
- Technomancers discovered that the residual oratorical conviction and lingering linguistic memory of deceased forensic advocates could be woven into fine mourning silk through electrum-threaded seams.
- Designated under municipal index 841, the garment became an indispensable accessory for junior envoys and charismatic negotiators seeking to sway stubborn magistrates, pacify hostile witnesses, and command absolute attention in noisy chambers.
Description

- When tied securely around the throat, it radiates a gentle, soothing warmth and the faint, nostalgic scent of dry legal parchment, sealing wax, and polished mahogany.

Tactical Roleplay Applications: Offensive and Defensive Utilization of Necromancy 841 Across Diverse Environments
- High Civic Courts, Parliaments, and Council Chambers
- Defensive Tactics & Roleplay: When cornered by aggressive political prosecutors or cross-examined under hostile testimony, the advocate straightens the cravat. Triggering Spectral Injunction, a sharp, ghostly gavel strike reverberates through the opponent’s thoughts, disrupting their train of thought, exposing their logical fallacies, and halting their verbal onslaught before a hostile verdict can form.
- Offensive Tactics & Roleplay: Facing a stubborn magistrate or an indifferent high council, the speaker taps the cold-iron tie pin and activates Voice of the Final Testimony. Modulating their tone to carry effortlessly across the acoustic hall, the orator delivers an unassailable closing argument infused with historical gravity, compelling entrenched nobles to yield to the proposed trade treaty or prisoner release.
- Frontier Military Camps and Hostile War Tents
- Defensive Tactics & Roleplay: Intercepted by armed sentries or surrounded by suspicious mercenary captains in a war zone, the avatar activates Mien of Somber Credibility. Speaking calmly over the clatter of drawn blades, the soothing resonance lowers weapons and de-escalates immediate physical violence by framing the encounter as a formal parley under the sacred laws of parley and truce.
- Offensive Tactics & Roleplay: During tense peace negotiations or hostage exchanges, the speaker uses Resonant Modulation to cut through the din of rowdy sellswords. The wielder exposes the hollow promises of enemy commanders, sowing doubt and mutinous whispers among the rank-and-file troops by convincing them that their superiors intend to abandon them in the coming conflict.
- Crowded Underground Bazaars and Black-Market Docks
- Defensive Tactics & Roleplay: When caught in an escalating dispute with loan sharks or crooked harbor masters, the user invokes the tie pin’s aura to impose a solemn hush over the alleyway. The sudden moral weight behind the speaker’s words makes aggressive thugs hesitate, buying crucial moments for allies to maneuver into flanking positions or withdraw safely.
- Offensive Tactics & Roleplay: Engaging shrewd smugglers or tight-lipped information brokers, the negotiator activates Echo of Forensic Eloquence. Framing the trade as an unavoidable mutual necessity, the speaker extracts hidden safehouse locations, contraband manifests, or steep discounts by systematically breaking down the broker’s leverage piece by piece.
- Ancient Tombs, Desecrated Crypts, and Ruined Sanctuaries
- Defensive Tactics & Roleplay: Confronted by restless specters or guardian wraiths bound to ancient oaths, the avatar addresses the spirits in the formal dialect of historical arbiters. The cravat’s necromantic resonance establishes the wearer as a legitimate judicial authority of the realm, halting undead hostility while formal grievances and burial treaties are heard.
- Offensive Tactics & Roleplay: Interrogating an uncooperative or malicious ghost chained to a burial altar, the user triggers Voice of the Final Testimony. Speaking with the unyielding authority of a high inquest magistrate, the avatar commands the entity to recount the exact circumstances of its demise, reveal the location of hidden vault keys, and confess the true names of ancient conspirators.

Perception of Activation:
- User’s Perspective:
- Visual: Looking down, the fine electrum embroidery along the collar edges glows with a steady, warm-gold current, while the teardrop-shaped crystal on the tie pin brightens into an intense violet ember. Translucent, violet-tinted sound waves appear to ripple outward from the throat in the wearer’s peripheral vision whenever words are spoken.
- Auditory: A deep, resonant undertone enriches the user’s own voice, echoing as if speaking within a grand, high-domed cathedral. Faint, polite murmurs of assent and the crisp rustle of parchment pages echo softly in the inner ear, affirming the rhythm of the delivery.
- Tactile: A soothing, steady warmth radiates from the cravat knot across the larynx and carotid artery, completely relieving throat dryness and tension. When projecting to a crowd, the vocal cords feel effortless, vibrating with balanced acoustic pressure.
- Olfactory: A distinguished scent of aged legal parchment, dried bergamot, beeswax polish, and fine pipe tobacco drifts upward from the folds of the cravat.
- Gustatory: A lingering, warm flavor of spiced black tea and sweet clover honey coats the back of the tongue and throat, keeping the mouth moist and clear.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Rhetorical Cadence Instinct: An intuitive sense of conversational timing surfaces in the mind, highlighting the exact second an opponent’s argument falters or when an audience is most vulnerable to persuasion.
- Spiritual Gravitas Aura: The user feels anchored by the collective solemnity of past arbiters, creating an unshakeable inner composure that dampens social panic and stage fright.
- Empathic Receptivity Gauge: The user senses the emotional resistance of listeners as a subtle physical tension in the air, feeling the exact moment an adversarial mind softens to a proposal.
- Observer’s Perspective:
- Visual: The charcoal-grey spider-silk cravat tightens neatly into an immaculate knot. The electrum borders glimmer with a refined, metallic sheen, and the teardrop crystal emits soft, rhythmic pulses of violet light that flare in sync with the speaker’s vocal inflections.
- Auditory: The speaker’s voice takes on a rich, commanding timber that cuts through background chatter and echoes with clear, pleasant authority, making every syllable distinct even across large chambers.
- Tactile: Nearby listeners feel a subtle, calming drop in atmospheric tension, accompanied by a faint warmth in the air that eases defensive posturing.
- Olfactory: Bystanders catch a subtle, comforting aroma of clean linen, beeswax, and cedarwood drifting from the orator.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Aura of Inherent Truth: Observers experience an instinctual psychological bias, feeling as though the speaker is an impartial, dignified authority figure whose statements carry the weight of established law.
- Disruption Hush: During Spectral Injunction, listeners feel a sudden, jarring mental pause—like an authoritative hand held up to command silence—that abruptly derails aggressive thoughts.
- Positives:
- Eliminates vocal fatigue, hoarseness, and strain during marathon debates, negotiations, or public addresses.
- Subtly dismantles skepticism and hostility in neutral or undecided audiences without obvious mind-controlling coercion.
- Provides real-time instinctive feedback on when to press an argument or pause for maximum dramatic impact.
- Negatives:
- The visible violet pulse of the catalytic crystal and shimmering electrum borders can alert wary observers or trained arcanists that supernatural enhancement is being employed.
- Over-reliance on the cravat’s solemn gravitas makes casual banter, lighthearted humor, or deceptive street slang feel stiff and overly formal.
- If the wearer is proven completely and factually wrong while activated, the sudden loss of credibility is amplified due to the elevated expectations set by the item’s dignified aura.
Crafting Recipe: Necromancy 841 Advocate’s Mourning-Cravat
Materials Needed
- 1 Half-Yard of Charcoal-Grey Spider-Silk: Woven from mourning spider threads, lightweight, durable, and naturally receptive to kinetic vibrations.
- 10 Yards of Spun Electrum Thread: An alloy of refined gold and silver drawn into hair-thin metallic filament for border embroidery and spiritual resonance conduits.
- 1 Intact Tier 1 Purple Catalytic Crystal (Teardrop Cut): Pre-calibrated and inscribed to the necromantic oratorical frequency index ‘841’.
- 1 Cold-Iron Tie Pin Shaft and Fastener: To secure the ascot knot, ground the arcane matrix, and house the teardrop bezel.
- 1 Dram of Rhetorician’s Mortuary Ash: Pulverized ceremonial sealing wax, dried lavender petals, and ground bone ash from deceased forensic orators.
- 1 Spool of Waxed Grey Silk Sewing Thread: For assembling the inner pleats and structural lining.
Tools Required
- Fine embroidery needles and micro-snips
- Silk shears and tailor’s measuring tape
- Pleating iron with steam reservoir
- Jeweler’s micro-pliers, loupe, and cold-setting bezel burnisher
- Small wooden cravat display stand for tension calibration
Skill Requirements
- Weaving / Tailoring: Minimum Rank 1 (Apprentice level or higher)
- Necromancy or Technomantic Crafting: Minimum Rank 1 (Trained in acoustic attunement and spirit-channeling matrices)
- Persuasion, Law, or Rhetoric / Performance: Minimum Rank 1 (Fundamental understanding of vocal modulation and cadence)
Crafting Steps
- Step 1: Cutting and Pleating the Spider-Silk
- Measure and cut the charcoal-grey spider-silk into symmetrical ascot strips with tapered winged ends.
- Press double-folded accordion pleats into the length of the fabric using the pleating iron, ensuring the fabric retains elasticity and volume when knotted.
- Step 2: Electrum Border Embroidery
- Thread the fine embroidery needle with spun electrum filament.
- Stitch continuous acoustic conduit runes along the outer perimeter and collar bands of the cravat, dusting the thread with the rhetorician’s mortuary ash as each runic loop closes.
- Step 3: Crafting and Mounting the Cold-Iron Pin
- Fashion a cold-iron bezel setting onto the head of the tie pin using jeweler’s micro-pliers.
- Inscribe municipal registration index 841 into the reverse side of the setting plate.
- Mount the teardrop-cut purple catalytic crystal into the bezel, burnishing the iron prongs until the stone is seated firmly against the conductive metal stem.
- Step 4: Integrating the Resonator Assembly
- Fold the pleated silk into a classic formal double-ascot knot over the wooden display stand.
- Pierce the center knot with the cold-iron pin, ensuring the point passes directly through the concealed convergence point of the electrum thread conduits.
- Fasten the cold-iron clasp behind the knot to lock the alignment in place.
- Step 5: Attunement and Cadence Calibration
- Don the cravat or place it on an acoustic dummy while channeling a Tier 1 necromantic charge into the teardrop crystal.
- Recite the standard municipal forensic declarations and legal petitions in a clear, measured speaking voice.
- Verify that the electrum borders glow with a warm-gold current, the teardrop crystal pulses violet in direct cadence with the spoken words, and the scent of aged parchment and beeswax rises from the folds.
Grey Throat-Cloth, Angry King, and Judgment of 841 Words
In the very old first years, when the great walls of the high council city were made of unbaked mud and the law was written upon flat tiles of river clay, there was a great war of sheep and water between the High King of the Copper Mountain and the Low Princes of the Reed Marsh. The High King did have three thousand iron spear-men who had brass helmets, and the Low Princes did have only two thousand reed-cutters who threw pointed mud sticks.
The High King did march his iron horses to the middle plain where the river makes two roads. He did shout with a great red mouth: “Let the mud men give up their four hundred water ditches! Let them give the fat sheep of the salt grass! If they do not write their marks upon the black stone of servitude before the sun Helios goes down behind the hill, my iron spear-men shall cut their mud huts into small meal and cast their children into the fish nets!”
The Low Princes did weep in their reed tents, for their pointed mud sticks could not break the brass helmets of the mountain soldiers. They had no gold cups left in their boxes, and their old women had only three baskets of dry flour to feed the camp.
In that camp lived an old scribe named Vardas, whose craft-name was written under the eight-hundred-and-forty-first stone tablet of the city arbiters. Vardas had no sword of iron and no horse of war, and his knees were like dry willow twigs that made a creaking sound when he walked before the magistrates. But he possessed a neck-cloth of fine grey spider-thread, which was stitched along the borders with thin threads of white-gold taken from the graves of the ancient judges who spoke the first true words before the sun was named.
In the middle of the neck-knot was stuck an iron nail holding a purple water-stone, carved with the eight-hundred-and-forty-first mark of the tomb-voices.
Vardas did tie the grey cloth around his wrinkled neck until the white-gold threads lay against his windpipe. He did push the iron pin through the cloth knot, and he spoke the three sacred words of the quiet bone-houses.
Those who stood in the reed tent did fall back with open mouths, for a great purple fire, like the cold lamp of the underworld, did flash from the purple water-stone. The grey cloth did stiffen like dried bull hide, and the white-gold threads did run with yellow fire like lightning crawling over a dry fence. A heavy smell did blow out of the folds of the cravat, smelling of old library cedar, yellow bee-gum, and the dry ink made from burnt vine sticks.
Vardas walked alone across the middle plain toward the iron camp of the High King. The three thousand spear-men did bang their iron knives upon their brass shields to make a great terrible thunder like falling rocks, and they threw stone javelins into the earth at his feet to make him turn back to the water ditches.
Vardas did not jump, and his feet did not hurry. He stepped into the high tent of the Copper King, where twenty warlords sat eating roasted pig flesh and drinking thick barley beer from bronze bowls.
The High King did draw his broad iron cleaver and roared like a wild bull in a stone pit: “Who is this grey water-rat who walks into the house of spears without kneeling in the dirt? Cut off his tongue and throw his dried ears to the hunting dogs!”
Vardas did raise his right hand and tapped the purple stone in the center of his throat-cloth. A sound like the striking of an ancient bronze hammer upon a granite altar did echo through the skulls of the twenty warlords. Their mouths did freeze half-open, their iron cleavers did become heavy like lead ingots in their fists, and the barking of their war dogs did turn into a soft whimper upon the grass.
Then Vardas did speak, and his voice was not the thin creak of an old mud scribe. His voice came out of the grey silk like the sound of a great bronze bell rung inside a deep well. The words did not fly fast like arrows, but each word did sit upon the air like a square block of red granite.
He recited the eight-hundred-and-forty-one ancient covenants of the river. He spoke of the old boundary stones that the grandfathers of the High King had laid in the mud six hundred winters before the iron was dug. He showed them that if the water ditches were taken by spears, the salt of the earth would rise up and poison the barley of the Copper Mountain, so that the king’s three thousand spear-men would eat their own leather boots before the next planting moon.
The purple stone upon his throat did pulse with slow violet light at every stop of his breath. The warlords did look upon their iron cleavers and felt great shame in their bellies, for the voice of the grey cloth did make their war seem like the foolish barking of hungry foxes. The High King did let his iron weapon fall into the sheepskin carpet, and his red face did turn pale like a peeled turnip.
The High King did speak with a low throat: “The old man speaks with the mouth of the stone earth and the breath of the kings who ruled before the mountains were broken. We shall not burn the reed huts. We shall divide the water ditches by two, and the sheep shall drink together at the middle river.”
So the High King and the Low Princes did make their marks upon a white clay tablet with an electrum stylus. When the treaty was finished, Vardas did unhook the iron pin from his throat. The purple light did sink back into the cold stone, and his voice became once more the dry whisper of an old man whose days are few.
The High King offered Vardas a wagon of copper kettles and forty fat oxen to stay in the mountain palace as the royal talker. But Vardas took only his dry bread and wrapped the grey cloth in oilskin, saying that the voice of the dead must never be bought to make lies sound like truth, but must only be worn when the foolish blood of the living would spill upon the stones.
Moral of the Story: An army of three thousand iron spears may break a mud wall, but a single voice that carries the unyielding truth of the past can break the will of an angry king and turn the sword back into its sheath.

- Spectral Injunction [Reaction] (Frequency: 1/Day): Trigger: A creature within 30 feet attempts a Deception or Intimidation check against you or an ally. Effect: A phantom judicial gavel strikes the creature’s subconscious. The target takes a –2 circumstance penalty to its triggering roll.
