With this gift, Valatharos became a force unmatched, faster than any other, able to dance through the air like wind and vanish like smoke.

But the power of the scales was not without price. Valatharos, now mighty, believed the scales to be his true strength and not the spirit within. He began to use the armor not for protection or the hunt, but for greed. He challenged others, boasting of his speed and of the armor’s magic, seeking glory and treasure. The armor, at first, obeyed, shifting with the colors of the land, protecting the serpent.

But the Elders of the Serpents watched. The scales had come not from Valatharos’ bravery, but from theft. And as the Gryphaleosnake’s heart filled with pride, the scales grew heavy and dim. The speed once granted by the armor slowed, the colors no longer shifted to match the earth. When Valatharos went into his greatest battle, seeking to claim a mountain of gold, the armor refused to protect him. Strikes landed true, acid from his enemies burned through the scales, and the warrior fell, never to rise again.

The armor remained, but no one knew where. Some say the scales crawled back into the earth, waiting for the next worthy beast. Others believe the armor rests in the caves of the First Serpent, guarding its master’s bones.

Moral of the Story: True strength comes not from the gifts of the world, but from within. When the heart is overcome with pride, even the mightiest armor cannot protect. Seek balance and wisdom, for power is fleeting, but honor lasts longer than any scales of the serpent.
