Lore: The Resonant Bulwark 319 was synthesized during a rare celestial alignment over the “Vale of Serenity,” where the rhythmic grinding of ancient stone-shapers met the high-tier focus of an Isekai oracle. By merging the persistent friction of the “Wild 477” with the calming essence of the “Harmony Pendant,” and flash-freezing the molecular properties of the “Shield of Radiance” and “Wisdom Tea” into a solid state, a master artisan created a tool of absolute equilibrium. The number 319 signifies the three days of continuous ritualistic grinding required to bind the fluid potions into the silver and gold filaments of the pendant. It is a relic that teaches that true protection is found in the patient, insightful heart.
Description: This single physical object manifests as a Heavy Mandate-Gauntlet (worn on the hand and wrist). It is constructed from weathered sandstone plates and intertwined silver and gold filaments that pulse with a soft, shifting blue-green and gold light. At the center of the palm-plate sits a clear crystal sphere containing suspended golden motes and a submerged aetherite crystal that shimmers with an uneven, pale orange glow. The surface is rough-textured with dark mineral grains that hum in a harmonious, offbeat rhythm. When moved in a circular motion, it sheds microscopic sparks and emits a faint scent of fresh rosemary and ancient tea leaves.

- Oracle’s Insight: The user gains a +5 bonus to Wisdom (Insight) and Wisdom (Perception) checks to interpret spiritual signs or detect hidden motives through aura-reading.
- Endurance of the Mind: The wearer is immune to the “Frightened” condition and has advantage on all saving throws against mental or emotional manipulation.
Passives Magic
- Abrasive Serenity: Repetitive motions (including combat or crafting) generate a 10-meter “Serene Aura” that grants allies advantage on saving throws against being charmed while stabilizing the surrounding magical environment.
- Celestial Feedback: The gauntlet provides a constant, vibrating “Material Sense,” alerting the wearer to hairline flaws in armor or the exact moment a magical reagent is at its peak potency.
- Luminous Resilience: The wearer is permanently bathed in a gentle, radiant aura that provides Resistance to necrotic and dark magic damage.
- Friction Memory: Any repetitive task performed for more than one minute becomes exponentially more efficient, reducing the time required for subsequent stages of that specific task by half.
Active Magics
- Shield of Radiant Stillness (3/Day): As an action, the wearer strikes the palm-plate. A localized gravity-pulse of golden light erupts, creating a 5-meter barrier that reduces incoming damage from all sources by 50% for 1 minute.
- Insightful Pulse (3/Day): By “grinding” the palm-plate in a circular motion, the user releases a wave of “Wisdom Essence.” For 1 hour, the user and up to three allies can see invisible creatures and magical traps within 60 feet.
- True Edge of Harmony (1/Day): The wearer touches a weapon or tool. For the next hour, that item is treated as having a +3 bonus and is supernaturally sharp/precise, making zero sound when used.
- Abrasive Rescue (Reaction): Triggered when an ally fails a saving throw or a task. The gauntlet releases a “Harmonic Pulse” that allows the ally to reroll the check with a +4 bonus, preventing total failure through the “inevitability of persistence.”

Specific Slot: Worn Item (Hands): This is a single physical object. Consistent with the laws of Saṃsāra, it only occupies one hand/wrist slot regardless of its consolidated Tier 1 components. Any attempt to wear another item on the same hand will result in immediate “Tier Pain.”
Integrity and Restoration of the Resonant Bulwark 319
As a Tier 4 Very Rare item, the Resonant Bulwark 319 of Radiant Stillness is a singular physical entity. Targeting the sandstone plates, the filaments, or the central crystal impacts the same consolidated health pool. Disabling this item requires overcoming its inherent magical stability and material resilience.
Item Hit Points The durability of this artifact is tied to the strength of the avatar currently wielding it. The specific hit points are calculated using the standard formula for enchanted gear in Saṃsāra:
Item HP=(Avatar Maximum HP)+(Resilience×Tier)
The Resonant Bulwark 319 possesses a high-quality Resilience of 15.
- Total Item HP: The current avatar’s maximum health plus 60 (15 Resilience × 4 Tier).
- Targeted AC: An attacker attempting to strike the gauntlet must hit a Difficulty Class equal to the Avatar’s AC + 4 (Tier) + the roll of the avatar’s Tier Die (4d10).
- Deactivation: If the item suffers damage reducing it to 50% of its total HP (Broken status), the “Harmonic Pulse” fails. All active and passive magics, including the “Luminous Resilience” and “Oracle’s Insight,” are suppressed until the item is repaired.
Repair and Re-attunement Because the Bulwark contains distilled liquid essences (Potion and Tea) now bound into a solid state, repair is a delicate alchemical and smithing process:
- Physical Repair: To restore lost HP, a master smith must use a Steam-Powered Shaping Mill to realign the sandstone plates. Elven Binding Resin and Dull Bronze are required to patch the filigree.
- Magical Realignment: If the item was deactivated, it must be submerged in a Steam-Warmed Vat containing a fresh mixture of Rosemary Spirit Strands and Ancient Tea Leaves. This “re-seasons” the magical lattice, allowing the internal aetherite to glow again.
- Re-activation: Once repaired above 50% HP, the user must perform a Ritual Attunement of at least 10 minutes to resynchronize their “Mind’s Eye” with the gauntlet’s “Abrasive Serenity.”
- Destruction Recovery: If reduced to 0 HP, the item shatters into its original component parts (Sandstone, Filaments, Crystal). Re-synthesizing it requires a Tier 4 crafting session and the consumption of a fresh Shield of Radiance Potion to reignite the “Radiant Stillness.”
Paths to Acquisition of the Resonant Bulwark 319
The Resonant Bulwark 319 of Radiant Stillness is a Tier 4 artifact of significant complexity. Because it requires the synthesis of both solid-state grinding magic and fluid-based spiritual essences, it is rarely found as a random discovery. Its presence in the world usually marks a site of great historical labor or the culmination of a master artisan’s life work.
- The Alchemical Synthesis: Most owners obtain this item by commissioning a Tier 4 Master Craftsman. This involves the difficult task of gathering the four baseline Tier 1 items and providing the “Master’s Fee,” which often includes providing a Tier 4 Magic Crystal (roughly the size of a standard person) to power the fusion.
- Archaeological Recovery in Umbravale: In the deep cave systems where the “Wild 477” first emerged, ancient workshops sometimes contain “Sealed Mandates.” A Tier 4 avatar using their Mind’s Eye may find a weathered sandstone gauntlet buried in silk-wrapped stone. Identifying it reveals its true nature as a Resonant Bulwark.
- Diplomatic Gift from the Vale of Serenity: High-ranking ambassadors who have served the Elven enclaves for decades may be gifted a Bulwark as a symbol of “Radiant Stillness.” This is a “Bound Item” in most cases, meaning it cannot be sold or traded outside the nation’s boundaries.
Commerce and Trade within Saṃsāra
Trading a Tier 4 item is a high-stakes endeavor conducted in the most secure “Safe Areas” of the 73 island countries. Because the item is a “Sellers’ Market” commodity, the price is often a baseline for negotiation rather than a fixed tag. At this tier, the World Bank is almost always involved to verify the transaction and manage the massive transfer of precious metals.
- Zenith Artisan Enclaves (High-End Masterworks) Located in the upper spires of floating cities like Aerithar, these shops are accessible only by those with Tier 3 or higher credentials. The air is permeated with the scent of rosemary and the constant hum of rotating gears.
- Transaction Dynamics: The item is displayed behind a localized barrier dome. The seller—often the master who crafted it—will require a demonstration of the buyer’s “Harmonic Attunement” to ensure they won’t suffer immediate Tier Pain.
- Cost: 450 Platinum Coins. The seller may also demand a “Lore Exchange,” requiring the buyer to share a secret regarding a “Deathly Area” they have traversed.
- The World Bank Private Auctions (Collateral Liquidations) When a Tier 4 avatar dies or fails to pay their property taxes, their consolidated items are sometimes liquidated by the god of commerce.
- Transaction Dynamics: These are silent auctions conducted via the Mind’s Eye. Participants must have a registered account with a balance of at least 1,000 Platinum to enter the bidding.
- Cost: 520 Platinum Coins. The price is higher here due to the Bank’s 1% transaction fee and the guaranteed “unbound” status of the item.
- Subterranean Relic Brokers (Umbravale Artisan Dens) Deep within the cave metropolises, these brokers deal in “Handmade” and “Salvaged” Tier 4 gear. The shops are lit by rune-light and powered by deep-earth steam vents.
- Transaction Dynamics: Buyers must navigate winding tunnels and prove their “Endurance Focus” just to reach the shop. The broker often prefers bartering for “Rare Minerals” or “Tier 4 Magic Crystals” rather than coin.
- Cost: 400 Platinum Coins. A discount is often provided if the buyer can provide the raw “Rosemary Spirit Strands” or “Ancient Tea Leaves” needed for the broker’s next project.
- The Silent Striders’ Specialized Exchanges (Elite Ranged Gear) Because the Bulwark features “True Edge” and “Ricochet” capabilities, guildhalls sometimes carry them for their elite defenders.
- Transaction Dynamics: The guild will only sell to those who have achieved a specific “Title of Power” within their ranks. The purchase is seen as a “Vested Interest” in the buyer’s survival.
- Cost: 380 Platinum Coins plus a “Contract of Protection,” requiring the buyer to defend a specific trade route for three Saṃsāra months.
- Resale and Liquidation Value (Selling the Item) If an avatar wishes to sell the Resonant Bulwark 319, they must undergo a “Valuation Ritual” by local tax assessors.
- Standard Buy-back: 200 Platinum Coins.
- Museum or Temple Acquisition: If the item has a “Sacred” history, a temple dedicated to Intayra may offer up to 600 Platinum Coins, provided the item is donated as a holy relic.
Tactical Mastery of Radiant Stillness
The Resonant Bulwark 319 is a Tier 4 artifact of absolute equilibrium, merging the relentless persistence of the grind with the celestial clarity of the oracle. Roleplaying its use requires a character to balance a methodical, “workmanlike” focus with a radiant, enlightened presence. Because it is a single physical object, its offensive and defensive capabilities are intrinsically linked to the rhythmic, circular motions of the hand and wrist.
In the Industrial Megacities (e.g., Valthorne)
Within the steam-filled skyscrapers and crowded trade nubs, the Bulwark acts as a stabilizing force amidst social and mechanical chaos.
- Offensive Roleplay: The avatar identifies a structural weakness in a rival guild’s reinforced gate. Using Harmonic Refinement, they place their palm-plate against the hinge and begin a slow, circular grinding motion. They describe the high-frequency hum of the Gyre Sinew resonating through the metal, “wearing away” the magical reinforcement until the heavy gate simply slides off its mountings with zero sound.
- Defensive Roleplay: Caught in a street riot or a mechanical explosion, the avatar strikes the palm-plate to activate the Shield of Radiant Stillness. A golden gravity-pulse erupts, creating a dome of “Dawn-light” that slows incoming shrapnel and steam-blasts. The avatar roleplays a state of Abrasive Serenity, remains standing while others are thrown back, and uses Oracle’s Insight to read the panicked auras of the crowd to find the safest exit.
In the Ancient Cave Metropolises (e.g., Umbravale)
In the dark, echoing labyrinths where the “Wild 477” was born, the item’s tactile feedback is the user’s primary sense.
- Offensive Roleplay: Facing a subterranean monster with high natural armor, the avatar activates True Edge of Harmony on their primary weapon. They describe the gauntlet’s silver filaments glowing with an Ethereal Light, imbuing the blade with a “persistent” edge that ignores the creature’s stony hide. Each strike is silent, a “methodical erosion” that dismantles the foe’s defenses strike by strike.
- Defensive Roleplay: When a tremor threatens a cave-in, the avatar uses their Surface Awareness to feel the shifting density of the ceiling. They trigger an Insightful Pulse, allowing the party to see the “stress lines” in the rock. By bracing the gauntlet against a support pillar, they use the Friction Memory to stabilize the structure, “grinding” the pillar into the floor with such permanence that it resists the magical collapse.
In the Floating Cities and Skylofts (e.g., Aerithar)
High above the Endless Ocean, the Bulwark’s ability to anchor the mind and body is vital against the buffeting winds.
- Offensive Roleplay: During an airship boarding action, the avatar uses Oracle’s Insight to interpret the “Subtle Energies” of the enemy’s magic circuits. They describe the gauntlet’s aetherite crystal flickering as they pinpoint a flaw in the ship’s barrier. With The Harmonizer’s Ricochet, they guide an ally’s ranged attack, allowing the projectile to bounce off the ship’s hull plates and strike the pilot from behind total cover.
- Defensive Roleplay: If an ally is blown off a high-altitude rope bridge, the avatar’s Abrasive Rescue reaction triggers. They describe a “Harmonic Pulse” that steadies their own footing on the slick, wind-swept ropes. A spectral silk strand, smelling of fresh rosemary and tea, shoots from the silver filaments to catch the ally, the “Nourishing” energy of the Wisdom Tea flowing through the tether to restore the ally’s focus and vitality.
In the Secluded Mountain Monasteries and Khalwas
In environments of deep meditation and spiritual testing, the Bulwark serves as a focal point for enlightenment.
- Offensive Roleplay: In a spiritual trial against a “Shadow-Clone” or a dark entity, the avatar uses the Shield of Radiance essence within the gauntlet. They describe a Radiant Stillness that makes the shadows retreat. They don’t strike with anger, but with Methodical Persistence, using the “Silver Fire” energy to “grind down” the dark magic’s resistance until the entity simply dissipates into the light of dawn.
- Defensive Roleplay: While meditating through a magical storm, the avatar uses Tranquil Focus. They describe the Harmony Pendant’s blue-green light rippling across the sandstone plates, shielding their mind from the chaotic “Wild Magic” fluctuations. The Endurance of the Mind skill allows them to remain a “Fixed Point” in the storm, grounding the party’s collective sanity through their own unwavering equanimity.

Perception of Activation:
User’s Perspective
- Sight: The sandstone plates along the forearm pulse with a rhythmic, golden radiance. In the center of the palm, the crystal sphere ignites, revealing a miniature “dawn” within. The user sees the world through a shimmering, amber-tinted filter that highlights structural flaws in objects and the shifting auras of living beings.
- Sound: A deep, resonant hum—halfway between a church bell and a massive grindstone—vibrates through the wearer’s arm. This sound is accompanied by the delicate, high-pitched tinkling of the silver filaments vibrating in harmony.
- Touch: A sensation of immense, solid weight settles over the hand, yet the fingers feel unnaturally nimble. A soothing warmth, like a hot cup of tea held on a cold morning, spreads from the wrist through the entire body, easing muscle tension and steadying the heartbeat.
- Smell: The sharp, clean scent of crushed rosemary and morning dew erupts around the user, masking the metallic smell of blood or the sulfur of industrial workshops.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Kinetic Anticipation: The user “feels” the resistance of materials before touching them, knowing exactly how much pressure is needed to grind or break an object.
- Spiritual Equanimity: A profound sense of mental stillness washes over the mind, making complex emotional threats feel distant and manageable, like watching a storm from behind a thick glass window.
- Vibrational Echo: The wearer can perceive the “heartbeat” of nearby magical artifacts, sensing their stability or volatility as distinct tactile pulses in the palm.
Observer’s Perspective
- Sight: The avatar’s gauntlet becomes a focal point of soft, celestial light. Microscopic, glowing sparks of basalt dust shed from the sandstone plates, dancing in the air before vanishing. The gold and silver filaments appear to writhe slightly, like living roots.
- Sound: Those nearby hear a rhythmic “thrum-thrum” that encourages a steady breathing pace. The sound of the environment—clashing swords or industrial steam—seems to lower in volume, muffled by the gauntlet’s serene field.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- The Calm Center: Allies standing within 10 meters feel a sudden, unexplainable drop in their own anxiety. It feels as if the wearer is an “anchor” holding the reality of the room together.
- Aura Ripple: Magic-sensitive observers see a ripple of blue-green light expanding from the gauntlet, momentarily “smoothing out” chaotic wild magic fluctuations in the immediate area.
Positives
- Unwavering Focus: The activation grants total immunity to distractions, allowing for perfect execution of delicate tasks even in the heat of battle.
- Tactical Insight: The ability to see invisible threats and read intent through auras provides a massive advantage in social and covert maneuvers.
- Material Dominance: The combination of friction magic and radiant power allows the user to dismantle physical barriers that would resist brute force.
Negatives
- Audible Signature: The low-frequency grinding hum is difficult to mask; while the action of the user is silent, the item itself alerts those with keen hearing.
- Sensory Tunneling: The intense focus on “The Grind” can lead to a minor loss of peripheral awareness; the user is so focused on their target that they may miss a sudden, unrelated change in the environment.
- Tactile Numbness: Following long periods of activation, the user’s hand may feel stiff or “heavy,” requiring a period of rest to regain fine motor sensitivity.
- Visual Beacon: In dark environments, the radiant golden glow acts as a beacon, making it impossible for the user to hide their general location.
The Rite of Radiant Equilibrium: Synthesis of the Bulwark 319
Items Merged
- Wild 477 of the Endless Abrasion: The grit-lined foundational gauntlet.
- Harmony Pendant: The silver and gold filaments of the elven enclave.
- Shield of Radiance Potion: The golden distilled solar protection.
- Wisdom Tea: The ethereal perception-boosting beverage.
Additional Materials Needed
- 1 Tier 4 Magic Crystal: Roughly the size of a human torso, used to stabilize the transition from liquid to solid state.
- Three Ounces of High-Purity Silver: For drawing new reinforcing wire.
- Elven Binding Resin: Harvested from ancient trees to bond the sandstone and metal.
- Moonstone Powder: To act as a conductive grit for the radiant energy.
- Rosemary Spirit Strands (Fresh): To reinforce the aromatic and protective lattice.
Tools Required
- Steam-Powered Shaping Mill: For high-pressure compression of the sandstone plates.
- Magic Circuit Diffuser: To synchronize the wild grinding magic with elven serenity.
- Silver Pot: For the secondary flash-brewing of the combined liquids.
- Needle of Binding: To weave the filaments into the sandstone base.
- Tuning Fork of the Pure Land: Calibrated to the frequency of “Radiant Stillness.”
Skill Requirements
- Tier 4 Master Artifice: Expertise in merging disparate physical and alchemical properties.
- Harmonic Attunement (Level 4): To prevent the “Wild” grinding from shattering the delicate elven filaments.
- Alchemical Flash-Freezing: The ability to convert liquid potions into a permanent crystalline state.
- Linguistic Fluency in Ancient Elven: Required for the incantations of unity spoken during the binding.
Crafting Steps
- Preparation of the Abrasive Base: Place the Wild 477 into the Shaping Mill. Apply steady pressure while slowly introducing Moonstone Powder. This creates the rough-textured sandstone plates that will hold the higher magics.
- The Filament Weaving: Using the Needle of Binding, carefully unweave the Harmony Pendant and re-lace the silver and gold filaments through the pores of the sandstone. Each strand must be anchored using Elven Binding Resin.
- The Solar Infusion: Pour the Shield of Radiance Potion and the Wisdom Tea into the Silver Pot. Heat with a mild elemental flame until the liquid reaches a deep, shimmering amber. Add three fresh Rosemary Spirit Strands to stabilize the mixture.
- The Crystalline Capture: Submerge the central crystal of the Harmony Pendant into the boiling mixture. Use the Magic Circuit Diffuser to draw the liquid essence into the crystal’s core until it becomes a solid, glowing “Dawn-Mote.”
- Molecular Binding: Set the infused crystal into the center of the palm-plate. Connect the Tier 4 Magic Crystal to the gauntlet and release a controlled surge of mana. This “flash-freezes” the liquid properties into the metal and stone lattice.
- Harmonic Calibration: Strike the Tuning Fork of the Pure Land against the sandstone. While it vibrates, the crafter must perform a 10-minute Humble Reflection, guiding the “Endless Abrasion” to synchronize with the “Serene Aura.”
- The Final Seal: If the gauntlet begins to hum with a low, rhythmic grinding sound and emits a scent of rosemary and old tea, the synthesis is complete. The item is now The Resonant Bulwark 319.
Failure States
- Imbalance: If the grinding rhythm is too fast, the crystal will shatter.
- Dissonance: If the crafter lacks equanimity, the “Wild” magic will reject the elven filaments, causing the item to melt into useless slag.
Hand-Armor of Bright Not-Moving and 319 Rubs
In the long-agohood, when the dirt of the world was still soft and the sky-lights had not yet learned to stay in their proper falling-places, there was a valley of much noise. In this valley lived a man of the stone-shaping. His given-name is lost to the eating of time, but the old scratches call him He-Who-Pushes-Sand-Until-Smooth. He was a man of the Wild Rubbing. On his gripping-flesh, he wore the wrap of the endless scraping, the Wild 477, which made his hands heavy with the memory of doing the same thing until the thing was no longer the thing it was.
It is written that a great bad-weather of the mind came from the underneath of the world. The shadow-eaters, which are the dark-things that chew on the happy-thoughts of the walking-people, crawled out of the cracks in the air. They brought the mind-fear. The mind-fear was very big. It made the leg-bones of the warriors turn into river-water. It made the magic-sayers forget their mouth-sounds. The dark-things did not hit with rocks; they hit with the loud sad-noise and the black-light of bad magic.
He-Who-Pushes-Sand saw that the swords of the warriors were crying and breaking. He saw that the fast-running was not working because the dark-things run on the inside of the eyes. He knew that the hitting and the running were the wrong shapes for this hole. He needed the shape of waiting and rubbing.
He walked to the tree-houses of the quiet pointy-ears [translator note: elves], who lived in the Vale of the Not-Screaming. He asked for the neck-circle of quiet, the Harmony Pendant, which was made of the sun-strings and moon-strings. The tree-people said, “It is yours, for your think-box is already very slow and good.”
Then he walked to the high-water-place to find the oracle-woman, who was the see-er of the next-suns. She gave him the gold-drink of the sun-bug, the Shield of Radiance, which smelled of the star-forest and the spirit-grass. Lastly, he went to the cloud-drinkers to take the leaf-water of the smart-flying-bug, the Wisdom Tea, which makes the eye-jelly see the true-shapes of the wind.
He-Who-Pushes-Sand went to his flat-rock. He put the wrap of the endless scraping on the rock. He put the neck-circle of quiet on top. He poured the gold-drink and the leaf-water over them. The liquids did not run away into the dirt. They sat there, very confused by the magic.
Then, He-Who-Pushes-Sand began to do the rubbing.
The old scratches say he rubbed three hundred and nineteen times. The translation of the numbers is very important.
The first rub was wet and smelled of the rosemary-grass. The dark-things were eating the edge of the valley, making the trees turn into bad-smoke. The tenth rub made the silver and gold strings bite into the leather of the scraping-wrap. The fiftieth rub made the gold-drink become hard like a rock-sun. The one-hundredth rub made the leaf-water of the smart-bug sing a song about being a very old leaf. The two-hundredth rub was very heavy. The gravity of the rubbing was pulling the dirt up to the sky. The shadow-eaters were at the door of the flat-rock, screaming the mind-fear. The three-hundredth rub made a sound like a bell made of sand. On the three hundred and nineteenth rub, the wetness was gone. The strings were inside the stone. The sun-bug and the smart-bug were asleep inside the crystal. The wrap of scraping was now a heavy Hand-Shoe of rock and wire. It was the Resonant Bulwark 319.
He-Who-Pushes-Sand put his hand into the Hand-Shoe. The old writings say he immediately smelled the cooked plants and felt very, very calm, like a dead tree that does not mind being dead because it is a good tree. The shadow-eaters rushed into his house to chew on his happy-thoughts. But the Hand-Shoe was doing the Bright Not-Moving. It projected the aura of the Abrasive Serenity. The shadow-eaters tried to scream the mind-fear, but the Hand-Shoe said “No” in the language of quiet humming.
The biggest shadow-eater, a beast made of bad-memories and sharp-wind, tried to hit the flesh-shell of He-Who-Pushes-Sand. But the man activated the Shield of Radiant Stillness. A golden pulse of heavy light made the air turn into thick honey. The bad-magic hit the light and became very tired.
He-Who-Pushes-Sand did not punch the beast. He did not use the fast-violence. He reached out his Hand-Shoe and grabbed the face of the bad-magic. He began to do the circular rubbing.
The beast screamed, trying to be formless, but the Oracle’s Insight of the Hand-Shoe saw the true-shape of the invisible beast. The silver strings held the magic tight. The rubbing was very slow. One circle. Two circles. The friction of the endless scraping began to turn the shadow-eater into bright dust. The beast tried to run, but the inevitable persistence of the stone-rubbing was too much. The bad-magic was ground down, smaller and smaller, until it was only a very small bad-thought, and then it was just a smell of old rain, and then it was nothing.
The other dark-things saw the circular rubbing of the Bright Not-Moving. They felt the extreme awkward calm of the Hand-Shoe. They decided they did not want to be rubbed into bright dust. They ran back to the underneath of the world and closed the cracks behind them.
The valley of much noise was saved. The people came to give He-Who-Pushes-Sand the loud-praises and the heavy-coins. But the man was very annoyed by the shouting. The Hand-Shoe had taught his think-box that the best thing is the quiet grinding. He took off the Hand-Shoe, placed it on his flat-rock, and walked into the mountains to find a place where the dirt did not yell. He left the Hand-Shoe behind for the next person who needed to rub the dark into nothing.
The Moral of the Story: When the dark noise is very loud and tries to eat your think-box, do not shout the fast-violence back; put on the heavy stone of quiet, and slowly rub the darkness until it is only sand.
Suggested conversions to other systems:
Call of Cthulhu (7th Edition)
