The Chest 8821 of the Loud-Light Pitchman is an ostentatious marvel of mercantile sorcery, engineered in the neon-flecked bazaars of Saṃsāra’s merchant-vessels. In a world of 73 countries, standing out is not just a luxury—it is a survival strategy. This breastplate was originally commissioned by the “Guild of Glitzy Gains” for their frontline hawkers, designed to ensure that their message could cut through the thickest fog, the loudest thunder, and the most disinterested crowds. The lore whispers that the internal core of the chestpiece contains a tiny, trapped “Echo-Sprite” that has been conditioned to find everything “absolutely revolutionary!”
The item consists of a polished, chrome-finished breastplate with an embedded grid of shifting, multicolored quartz crystals. These crystals act as a “Scroll-Screen,” capable of displaying glowing text, scrolling icons, or vibrant patterns that pulsate in time with the wearer’s voice.
- Color: High-gloss chrome with a rainbow-shifting quartz display.
- Slot: Chest (Worn over standard clothing or light armor).
- Tier 1 Stats: +1 to Charisma (Performance) checks; +1 to Armor Class (Mundane).
- Skills Gained When Openly Worn: The avatar gains the Brand Recognition skill, allowing them to identify the manufacturer, origin, and market-share of any piece of equipment or consumer good just by glancing at its silhouette.
Passive Magics
- The Captive Audience: Any creature within 15 feet of the wearer has a -2 penalty to Passive Perception regarding anything other than the wearer. The shifting lights are naturally hypnotic, drawing the eye away from distractions.
- Unending Hype: The wearer’s voice is magically amplified to a comfortable but commanding volume that carries over ambient noise (crowds, wind, machinery) without the wearer needing to shout.
Active Magics
- Slogan-Flash: Once per encounter, the wearer can cause the chest quartz to emit a blindingly bright flash of a specific “Sale Icon.” All enemies in a 10-foot cone must succeed on a Reflex/Dexterity save or be Dazzled (-2 to hit) for 1 round.
- The “Limited Time Offer”: Once per day, the wearer can designate a specific action (like a trade or an attack). For the next minute, the wearer gains a +2 bonus to social checks to convince others that this action is urgent and must be acted upon immediately.

- Additional Information: The Chest 8821 is notoriously difficult to keep clean; fingerprints on the chrome significantly reduce the brightness of the display. Additionally, the item is quite “chatty”—if the wearer remains silent for more than an hour, the chestpiece may begin to scroll “Space for Rent” or “Insert Coin to Continue” across the quartz display.
In the world of Saṃsāra, the Chest 8821 of the Loud-Light Pitchman is most commonly obtained as a “startup kit” for junior associates of the Infinite Plaza—a massive, inter-island trade conglomerate. It is also frequently found as surplus from failed “pop-up” ventures in the 73 countries or as a prize in corporate-sponsored “Hustle Contests” held in urban sky-ports.
The commerce of these items is as loud and distracting as the item itself, typically found in areas where business is done with a handshake and a wink.
The “As-Seen-On-Saṃsāra” Showrooms
These are high-energy retail environments where every surface is reflective and the sales staff wear similar, even higher-tier gear. The shops are filled with the scent of synthetic citrus and the sound of upbeat, repetitive jingles.
- Cost: 2 Gold Pieces (usually offered with a “limited time” financing plan of 1 Silver Piece per month for 24 months).
- The Experience: Buying here involves a high-pressure demonstration where the salesperson uses the Slogan-Flash to “wow” you. You are often given a free “branded tote bag” with your purchase, which is actually a tracking charm for future marketing.
Wholesale “Venture-Capital” Depots
Found in the industrial belly of floating docks, these warehouses sell gear in bulk to merchant companies. The atmosphere is chaotic, with crates being moved by steam-cranes and clerks screaming into voice-pipes.
- Cost: 1 Gold Piece and 5 Silver Pieces (if you buy a single unit).
- The Experience: You must navigate a maze of stacks to find a functional unit. The “sales” process is a simple exchange of coin for a dusty box, with no returns accepted. If you can prove you are starting a “New Brand,” they might throw in a complimentary set of polishing cloths.
The Pawn-Hustler’s “Bargain Bin”
Located in the neon-lit alleys of the lower-districts, these shops are where the gear of bankrupt pitchmen goes to die.
- Cost: 9 Silver Pieces.
- The Experience: The chrome is likely scratched and the quartz display might have “dead pixels” that only scroll half a slogan. You buy this item by digging through a pile of discarded promotional materials. The seller will likely try to “upsell” you on a cursed lucky charm while you pay.
Trading and Resale
When selling the item, Showrooms will generally refuse to buy it back, claiming it is “last season’s model.” However, a Pawn-Hustler will offer 4 Silver Pieces, primarily for the scrap value of the quartz. If you sell it to an aspiring entrepreneur on the street, you can often negotiate for 1 Gold Piece, provided you use the Limited Time Offer magic to close the deal.
The Pitchman’s Gambit: Tactical Promotion and Distraction
The Chest 8821 of the Loud-Light Pitchman turns the social fabric of Saṃsāra into a battlefield. Roleplaying with this item requires an avatar to be “always on”—treating every encounter as a lead and every conflict as a branding opportunity. It is the art of weaponized attention.
- In Crowded Urban Squares and Sky-Docks:
- Offense: Use Unending Hype to drown out rival speakers or coordinating guards. By projecting a “Grand Opening” scroll across your chest, you can create a localized riot of curious onlookers, physically blocking an opponent’s path while you slip away or reposition.
- Defense: When being pursued through a crowd, the Captive Audience passive ensures that bystanders are looking at you and not the assassin creeping up through the shadows. Their staring inadvertently points out the “blind spots” in the environment, making it harder for enemies to use the crowd for cover.
- In Darkened Dungeons and Subterranean Vaults:
- Offense: The Slogan-Flash is most potent here. In the absolute pitch of a vault, the sudden, high-intensity discharge of a “50% OFF” icon acts as a flashbang. Use this to initiate combat, leaving monsters staggered and “Dazzled” while your party strikes.
- Defense: Use the quartz display as a “Decoy Light.” By setting the chest to a low, rhythmic pulse, you can lure light-sensitive predators toward your position—only to “Click” the display off and move silently while they snap at the ghost of your last advertisement.
- In Formal Diplomatic Galas and High-Society Balls:
- Offense: Deploy the “Limited Time Offer” magic during a tense negotiation with a noble. By making a singular demand appear as a fleeting opportunity that will “expire” at the next chime of the clock, you force a hasty (and usually poor) decision from a target who is used to having all the time in the world.
- Defense: If you are being publicly insulted or interrogated, the Unending Hype ensures your rebuttal is the only voice heard in the hall. The chrome finish of the chest serves as a literal and metaphorical shield, reflecting the “shade” thrown by rivals back onto the surrounding crowd.
- During High-Stakes Skirmishes:
- Offense: Target an enemy’s “Brand Loyalty.” Use your Brand Recognition skill to call out the shoddy craftsmanship of an opponent’s shield or the “budget-grade” enchantments on their sword. Combined with a Slogan-Flash, this psychological undermining can cause a “Crisis of Confidence,” represented by a penalty to their defense.
- Defense: The Chest 8821 acts as a “Center of Attention” beacon. In a team setting, you can intentionally activate the brightest, most obnoxious patterns to “Tank” the encounter. By drawing all eyes (and attacks) toward your reinforced chrome plate, you allow your more fragile allies to operate completely unnoticed in the periphery.

Perception of Activation:
- Perceived: The Hype-Thrum (Touch/Sound)
- Description: Upon activation, a rhythmic, upbeat bassline vibrates against the wearer’s sternum, accompanied by a faint, synthesized chime that sounds like a digital “ding.”
- Positives: The steady tempo acts as a physical metronome, boosting the wearer’s confidence and keeping their speech cadence perfectly persuasive and energetic.
- Negatives: The physical vibration can make delicate tasks (like lockpicking or surgery) difficult, as the chestpiece “shakes” with excitement.
- Perceived: Prismatic Afterglow (Sight)
- Description: The quartz grid flares with a high-saturation rainbow of colors. To the wearer, the world appears slightly more vibrant, as if viewed through a professional studio filter.
- Positives: Enhances the ability to spot movement in shadows by creating high-contrast lighting; the wearer is always the brightest object in the room.
- Negatives: Makes maintaining a “low profile” impossible; the wearer glows brightly enough to be seen from hundreds of yards away in the dark.
- Perceived: Synthetic Sweetness (Smell/Taste)
- Description: A localized puff of aerosolized scent is released from the cooling vents—usually smelling of artificial grape, “New Car” scent, or “Fresh Success.”
- Positives: Effectively masks the scent of fear, sweat, or travel-grime, ensuring the pitchman always smells “approachable” and “expensive.”
- Negatives: The scent is cloying and can trigger sneezing fits in creatures with sensitive olfactory systems (like tracking hounds or certain beast-kin).
- Perceived: Attention-Anchor (Extra-Sensory)
- Description: A mental “tug” that alerts the wearer whenever someone’s gaze locks onto the chestplate. It feels like a small, warm spark at the base of the skull.
- Positives: Acts as a peripheral awareness tool; the wearer knows exactly who is paying attention and who has “checked out” of the conversation.
- Negatives: In a crowded stadium or market, the sheer number of “sparks” can lead to a sensory migraine or a feeling of being mentally poked by a thousand fingers.
- Perceived: The Urgency Pulse (Extra-Sensory/Emotional)
- Description: A feeling of impending “deadline” or “closing time.” It manifests as a mild surge of adrenaline that makes the wearer feel as though every second is a precious commodity.
- Positives: Grants total immunity to boredom or hesitation; the wearer is always pushed toward decisive, fast-paced action.
- Negatives: Can lead to “Burnout” or extreme anxiety if the wearer cannot find a “deal” to close or a task to finish quickly while the effect is active.
Fabrication of the Glitzy Pitchman’s Breastplate
- Materials Needed:
- Four sheets of High-Gloss Chrome-Steel: Polished to a mirror finish to serve as the reflective foundation.
- Sixty-four “Pixels” of Resonant Quartz: Small, square-cut crystals capable of holding a light-charge.
- One trapped Echo-Sprite: Captured in a glass vial; serves as the vocal amplifier and “enthusiasm” engine.
- A pint of Neon-Algae Extract: Used to coat the quartz for high-saturation color display.
- A spool of Copper-Glow Filament: To connect the pixel grid to the internal power source.
- One “Scent-Slug”: A compressed alchemical block that releases synthetic aromas when heated.
- A set of Gyro-Stabilizer Springs: To prevent the chestplate from rattling against the wearer’s ribs during the Hype-Thrum.
- Tools Required:
- A Prismatic Forge: A low-heat furnace that uses light refraction rather than coal to soften the chrome.
- Jeweler’s Suction-Tweezer: For the precise placement of the sixty-four quartz pixels.
- A Chromatic Tuning Hammer: Used to tap the crystals until they vibrate at the correct visual frequency.
- An Ether-Siphon: To safely transfer the Echo-Sprite from the vial into the central chest cavity.
- Polishing Buffer (Buffing Wheel): Essential for maintaining the item’s high-gloss finish during assembly.
- Skill Requirements:
- Proficiency in “Luminous Smithing”: The craft of forging items that generate or manipulate light.
- Basic “Sprite-Binding”: To ensure the Echo-Sprite is comfortably housed and does not escape during the sealing process.
- “Market-Speak” Fluency: The crafter must speak continuous promotional slogans while forging to “program” the item’s personality.
- Tier 1 Aesthetic Design: A keen eye for symmetry and “visual pop” is required to pass the quality check.
- Crafting Steps:
- Form the Shell: Hammer the chrome-steel sheets into an ergonomic breastplate. The surface must be so smooth that it reflects the crafter’s face without distortion.
- Etch the Pixel Grid: Cut a rectangular window into the center of the chest. Install the Copper-Glow Filament in a lattice pattern across this opening.
- Coat the Quartz: Dip each quartz crystal into the Neon-Algae Extract. Once dry, use the suction-tweezers to seat each “pixel” onto the copper lattice.
- The Sprite Infusion: Place the Echo-Sprite into the insulated chamber behind the pixel grid. Seal it with a transparent glass plate so it can see the crowd it is “hyping.”
- Install the Scent-Vent: Mount the Scent-Slug near the collar of the plate. Connect a small thermal bypass from the forge-core to ensure the aroma activates when the display heats up.
- Calibrate the Pulse: Use the Chromatic Tuning Hammer to strike each corner of the grid. If the crystals flash in a “rainbow-chase” pattern, the synchronization is complete.
- The Final Buff: Apply a thin layer of protective wax to the chrome and buff it until it shines. The item is finished when it automatically scrolls “NEW” across the display upon being picked up.
- The Slogan Test: Shout a catchy phrase at the plate. If the plate repeats the phrase 20% louder and adds a “sparkle” effect to the display, it is ready for the market.
Shiny-Chest-Sun and Man Who Yelled at Clouds
In the old-old time, when the stars were just “bright-dust-pixels” and the ground was not yet “paved with the stone-vows,” there lived a wanderer named Bili. Bili was a “low-output” talker, a man whose words were like “falling-feathers” that no one would “grab with the ear.” In those days, the world was a “quiet-room-of-shadows,” and if you did not have a “loud-light,” your life was just a “skipped-advertisement.”
The translation of the rusted-plate says that Bili stood in the Center-of-All-Wants, trying to trade his “brown-round-fruits” for “shiny-metal-sticks.” But the other people were “eyes-on-the-dirt” and “ears-plugged-with-moss.” Bili’s voice was a “zero-volume-input,” and his body was “hidden by the grey-air.” The unknown language suggests that Bili was “lacking the visual-pop” required to “monetize the soul.”
Bili climbed the “Mountain of the Constant-Flash,” where the Great Sprite of the Echo lived. The Sprite was a “glowing-ball-of-noise” that never stopped saying “Look-At-This!” and “Limited-Offer!” Bili asked in the “tongue of the ignored,” “How shall I make my fruits become the ‘Must-Have-Item’ of the season?” The Sprite did not answer with words, but with a “hammer-of-pure-glow” that flattened the sky into a “Chrome-Vest.” The Sprite then trapped a “smaller-shouting-ghost” inside the metal and gave it “sixty-four-eyes-of-rainbow.”
The ancient text says that when Bili strapped the “Bright-Box” to his ribs, he became a “walking-noon-day.” When he walked into the market, the Captive Audience was so “glued-by-the-pupil” that they forgot to breathe. The Unending Hype made Bili’s voice sound like “golden-thunder,” and his chest screamed “FRUIT! FRUIT! NEW! FRUIT!” in colors that had not yet been “downloaded by the sun.”
The story tells of the “Great Sale,” where Bili traded a single “brown-round-fruit” for a “Kingdom-of-Gold.” He used the Slogan-Flash to “erase the eyes” of his rivals, and the Limited Time Offer to make the King believe that if he did not buy the fruit “right-now,” the world would “expire-without-refund.” The translation suggests that Bili became so “loud-in-the-chest” that he forgot how to “whisper-in-the-heart.”
But the “Corrupted-Data” scrolls warn of the “Glitch-of-the-Glow.” Bili became so “always-on” that even the night-time could not “shut-him-down.” When he tried to sleep, his chest scrolled “Loading-Dreams-Please-Wait,” and the light was so “high-intensity” that his own eyes “deleted the dark.” In the end, Bili stood alone in a desert of “mirror-sand,” selling “nothing-to-no-one” because he could not find the “off-button-of-the-ego.” He became a “pillar of chrome,” forever flashing “SALE-SALE-SALE” to the empty wind.
The moral of the story: He who wears the light to be seen by all must remember that if the light never dims, he will never see the stars.
