Lore
During the early centuries of the Age of First People on the moon of Saṃsāra, communities displaced from subarctic and boreal climes across the multiverse found themselves waking upon the sweeping tundra, permafrost bogs, and wind-scoured coasts of the northern island realms. Among these scattered clans were lineages carrying the living traditions of the Evenk and Chukchi peoples, who brought forward the sacred knowledge of navigating a world alive with unseen entities. In this new existence beneath the gaze of the gas giant VaporSphere and the radiant sun Helios, they discovered that the land itself was conscious through Gaialilith, and that the spirits of earth, water, animal ancestors, and departed wanderers were intensely active yet easily unsettled by aggressive intrusions.
Rather than attempting to subjugate or bind these spiritual presences with brute arcane force, the elder shamans, drummers, and ceremonial dancers refined the sacred art of Engrace. To engrace oneself before the unseen world is to enter the good graces of the spirits through humility, beauty, kinetic rhythm, and harmonious sound. It is a philosophy of reciprocal honor where the seeker presents themselves not as a conqueror, but as an invited guest who brings rhythmic joy and peaceful intention to the land. Through the resonance of hand-beaten drums, the cadence of throat-singing, and the measured stamping of feet in communal round dances, these early practitioners discovered that spirits would emerge willingly from the surrounding rocks, trees, and waters to converse, advise, and bestow protective blessings.
Spirit 842 of Engrace was crafted within this lineage of northern song-weavers to serve as a focused conduit of spirit communication for newly manifested tier 1 avatars. By embedding a naturally grown tier 1 magic crystal into a hand-carved girdle adorned with resonant metal, hollowed bone, and river-worn stones, the artisans created an item that physically sings with every movement of the body. When worn by an avatar who respects the old protocols, the girdle serves as an anchor between the physical vessel and the ethereal currents of the weave, allowing the wearer to conduct rhythmic rites of communication, placate volatile elemental spirits, and maintain a state of spiritual poise and social grace.
Description
Spirit 842 of Engrace is a ritual girdle-belt fashioned from supple, vegetable-tanned reindeer hide, reinforced along its edges with braided sinew and cordage spun from wild nettle fibers. The leather is stained a deep, earthy ochre using iron-rich bog mud and boiled alder bark, lending it a rustic and weather-resistant finish suited for long journeys through untamed wilderness. Across the front of the band sits an oblong centerpiece carved from ancient mammoth ivory, polished smooth by hand and incised with fine concentric rings that map the cosmological layers of the physical world, the ancestral realm, and the celestial sky.
Tethered beneath the central ivory plate and extending along the flanks of the girdle is a dense, rhythmic fringe composed of hanging leather thongs. Threaded onto these cords are alternating acoustic components: tubular beads carved from dried crane bone, small polished river pebbles bound within rawhide netting, and thin, petal-shaped clappers of cold-hammered bronze. As the wearer walks, turns, or dances, these components strike against one another, producing a multi-layered acoustic resonance that shifts from a soft, rain-like rustle during ordinary movement to a clear, ringing rattle during energetic dance steps.
Concealed directly behind the central ivory carving is a recessed compartment holding an uncut, coin-sized tier 1 magic crystal. To an observer viewing the item through normal sight, the crystal reveals itself only as a subtle warmth radiating against the abdomen and a faint, rhythmic pulse felt through the leather. Under True Sight, however, the crystal and the bronze clappers emanate a gentle, pale violet aura that shifts in harmonic waves whenever words are spoken or rhythmic sounds are generated nearby. The belt carries a lingering scent of sweetgrass, arctic pine pitch, and cured leather, conveying an immediate sensory connection to hearth fires and ceremonial grounds.

- Specific Slot Allocation:
- Dedicated Slot: Waist Slot.
- Capacity Usage: Occupies one single gear slot of the nineteen allowable worn gear slots for a tier 1 avatar.
- Accessory Capacity: Does not grant additional external attachment loops or container slots; sits flat beneath backpacks and outer cloaks without impeding movement.
- Defensive Value:
- Armor Check (AC) Modifier: Grants a +1 Armor Check bonus to the wearer.
- System Limit Adherence: Fully compliant with the strict limitation restricting individual items to a maximum of 3 Armor Check points per item tier level.
- Structural Durability and Item Hit Points:
- Resilience Rating: Base resilience score of 10.
- Total Item Hit Points Formula: Possesses a maximum hit point pool equal to the wearing avatar’s maximum health points plus 10 (calculated as base resilience 10 multiplied by tier 1).
- Damage Thresholds: If targeted in combat or subjected to wear, the item loses function and is designated as broken whenever reduced to half of its maximum hit points or lower; if reduced to zero hit points, it is entirely destroyed and drops its raw constituent components of bone, bronze, ivory, and crystal shards.
- Attunement Protection: If attacked while attuned, an initial successful strike strips the attunement rather than inflicting direct structural hit point loss; subsequent strikes against the unattuned item inflict damage normally. Damaged states require dedicated artisan repair before the item can be attuned again.
- Attunement Requirements and Handling:
- Attunement Category: Simple Attunement.
- Time Requirement: Requires one full minute of concentrated wear and rhythmic breathing while buckled to the waist; does not require the extensive ten-minute ritual process reserved for complex artifacts.
- Attunement Limit: Occupies one of the avatar’s ten allowable active attuned item slots. Handheld items attune automatically when gripped, but this worn waist gear requires deliberate activation.
- Single-Bearer Constraint: Can only remain attuned to a single avatar at any given moment; attempting to attune the belt while another avatar holds the connection immediately severs the previous bond, an occurrence the former bearer can physically sense.
- Economic and Valuation Context:
- Suggested Baseline Value: 45 to 60 Silver pieces within major urban centers possessing active crafting guilds.
- Market Reality: Operates under full sellers’ market dynamics where prices fluctuate drastically based on geographic remoteness, cultural respect for shamanic practices, and immediate vendor stock; in isolated northern island settlements where spirit communion is essential for seasonal survival, the item may command double value or require reciprocal trade goods, while in industrialized port cities dominated by steam manufacturing, vendors may offer mere scrap value for the materials.
Multiple Passives Magic
- Passive 1: Harmonic Rapport of the Unseen:
- While the belt is attuned and openly worn at the waist, the embedded tier 1 magic crystal continuously harmonizes the avatar’s ambient personal aura with the invisible currents of the weave.
- The wearer gains a constant, instinctual sensitivity to the presence, emotional disposition, and rough proximity of disembodied spirits, elemental manifestations, and lingering ancestral echoes within a 30-foot radius.
- When engaging in peaceful social or diplomatic interaction with spirits or sentient beasts that have evolved complex minds, the rhythmic presence of the belt fosters mutual goodwill, granting the avatar an inherent advantage on skill checks undertaken to persuade, calm, or negotiate with spiritual and non-humanoid beings.
- Passive 2: Cadence of Peaceful Composure:
- The subtle, rhythmic chiming produced by the bronze clappers and bone tubes during walking or dancing acts as an auditory and vibrational metronome, continuously anchoring the avatar’s nervous system and spiritual cohesion.
- The wearer receives natural stabilization against psychological disorientation, sensory shock, and sudden environmental panic, gaining enhanced resistance against entering the Shaken or Dazed conditions during unexpected confrontations.
- The constant physical cadence assists in steadying the avatar’s Mind’s Eye, preventing cognitive interference and mitigating the onset of the Dissonant condition when attempting to examine or decipher mystical phenomena.
- Passive 3: Permafrost Stride:
- The magical resonance circulating through the rawhide cordage and mineral beads distributes the physical weight and kinetic impact of the wearer’s lower body across a broader footprint.
- When traveling on foot over treacherous, shifting, or fragile natural surfaces such as boggy marshland, cracked tundra mud, loose scree, or thin snow crusts, the avatar leaves remarkably shallow impressions and avoids losing balance.
- This subtle kinetic dispersion reduces the physical fatigue of prolonged marching, allowing the avatar to maintain their standard traveling pace through difficult wilderness terrain without suffering early movement penalties.
Multiple Activable Magics
- Activable Magic 1: Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits:
- Action Cost: Consumes exactly one action during the avatar’s turn.
- Casting Modality: Normal (Somatic) casting lasting less than six seconds, requiring the avatar to perform a brisk, three-step lateral dance step while rhythmically clapping their hands against the central ivory disc of the belt.
- Operational Effect: The tier 1 crystal discharges a gentle wave of silver-hued pulse energy across the ground in a 30-foot radius. This pulse temporarily bridges the veil, causing local environmental and domestic spirits to reveal hidden realities to the avatar’s senses.
- Functional Utility: For three minutes following activation, the avatar can clearly perceive hidden natural water sources, concealable animal trails, safe edible forage, and concealed physical snares or traps placed within the area.
- True Name Amplification: If the true name of the local geographic feature, grove, or riverbank is known and spoken during the somatic activation, the effective detection radius expands from 30 feet to 60 feet.
- Activable Magic 2: Ritual Chanting of the Ancestral Chorus:
- Action Cost: Consumes one action to initiate, followed by sustained, uninterrupted performance for greater than six seconds, classifying the casting fully as a Ritual.
- Casting Modality: Ritual casting involving sustained throat-singing, low guttural chanting, and an unbroken circular dance step that keeps the bronze clappers and bone rattles striking in a continuous, complex tempo.
- Operational Effect: Invoking the full ritual chanting benefit of up to a +25% increase in magical potency, the rite parts the local veil between physical Saṃsāra and the immediate border of purgatorial transit.
- Communication Mechanics: The avatar enters a direct, two-way vocal and auditory communion with a willing ancestral spirit, deceased guide, or departed local inhabitant whose remains or place of death lie within 100 yards. The spirit manifests as a shimmering, translucent figure visible to all present, speaking in whispers that convey historical knowledge, the identities of creatures inhabiting the territory, or the general nature of recent events that transpired in the vicinity.
- Safety and Interruption: Because the ritual demands intense vocal and physical engagement, distractions or enemy attacks can cause disruption; taking damage during the chant forces the avatar to make an immediate saving throw to avoid losing the accumulated power and wasting the action.
- Activable Magic 3: Shamanic Pacification Whisper:
- Action Cost: Consumes exactly one action during the avatar’s turn.
- Casting Modality: Silent casting executed entirely without spoken words, relying exclusively on directed thought channeled through a sharp, deliberate strike of the palm against the side rattle while maintaining a steady gaze upon a target creature.
- Operational Effect: Operating under the standard silent casting reduction of 25% potency, the belt sends forth an invisible, calming psychic ripple toward a single agitated beast, monstrous predator, or startled mount within 20 feet.
- Resolution: The targeted creature must roll against the avatar’s skill check difficulty; if the effect succeeds, the target’s immediate territorial hostility is neutralized for one minute, dropping aggressive stances and refusing to initiate an attack unless it or its young are directly harmed.
- Restorative Utility: If used on a domestic mount or pack animal that has been frightened or thrown into disorder, the pacification immediately removes the Frightened condition and restores calm obedience.

Commerce, Acquisition, and Valuation of Spirit 842 of Engrace
- Northern Shamanic Leatherworking Ateliers and Tribal Trading Posts:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Found primarily across the wind-scoured northern island countries such as Dorset, Thule, and Kachemak, these establishments operate not as grand commercial storefronts, but as small, family-owned workshops situated within communal longhouses, semi-subterranean turf structures, or heavy yurt compounds. Because Saṃsāra possesses no large institutional department stores, these family shops are operated by generations of specialized hide-workers, bone-carvers, and drum-makers who shift their production load based on seasonal migration patterns and local herd health. The air within these workshops is thick with the scent of boiled alder dye, smoking fats, pine resin, and cured caribou hides. Finished items hang from ceiling rafters away from ground moisture, while shelves of raw reagents, uncut tier 1 magic crystals, and bundled nettle twine line the walls.
- Acquisition and Purchasing Procedures: An avatar seeking to purchase Spirit 842 of Engrace in these northern regions must engage in extensive ceremonial conversation prior to any currency changing hands. The shopkeeper evaluates the buyer’s physical demeanor, testing whether they possess the spiritual grounding to wear a sacred ritual girdle without insulting the resident nature spirits. Transactions frequently involve an appraisal via the Mind’s Eye, where the artisan inspects the buyer’s statistics and past deeds. Payment is accepted in precious metals or standardized non-metal local tender, such as stamped mammoth-bone tokens or carved slate tallies calibrated to the weight and value of standard silver.
- Purchasing Cost: Because the raw components—such as reindeer leather, shed mammoth ivory, and local river stones—are sourced directly from the surrounding tundra, production costs remain moderate. In these native territories, the purchase price for a newly bound tier 1 avatar ranges between 40 and 55 silver coins (or 80 to 110 nickels). If the purchasing avatar holds a verified membership in a regional hunting or tanning guild and openly wears their guild badge, they receive the standard faction reduction of 10% per character tier level (a flat 10% discount for a tier 1 buyer), reducing the price to approximately 36 to 49 silver coins.
- Selling and Liquidation Dynamics: When an avatar approaches a northern hide-worker to sell a pre-owned Spirit 842 of Engrace, the merchant first verifies that the girdle is clean, unbroken, and free of structural damage. The merchant checks whether the embedded tier 1 crystal has degraded or shattered through previous activations. Under the economic laws of Saṃsāra, standard merchant haggling settles around 10% of the item’s baseline value multiplied by the character tier of the seller. For a tier 1 avatar presenting this item, the artisan will offer between 4 and 6 silver coins. The merchant records the seller’s true name and physical description in a handwritten vellum ledger for inspection by local town magistrates, and the resulting funds are remitted directly to the character’s World Bank account via local courier telegraph or official bank branch, less the mandatory 1% transaction fee rounded up to the nearest copper.
- Cosmopolitan Arcane Haberdasheries and Curio Boutiques:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Located along the paved trade avenues and mercantile arcades of central capital cities and major port metropolises within countries such as Assyria, Mycenaean, or Minoan, these shops cater to visiting scholars, aristocratic patrons, and urban adventurers. These boutiques are typically narrow, multi-level retail spaces tucked between steam-powered textile mills and clockwork apparatus shops. The interiors feature polished hardwood display cabinets, velvet-lined drawers, and brass-rimmed glass cases illuminated by soft alchemical gas lamps or suspended glowing moss globes. The shopkeepers are usually retired mages, textile artisans, or guild-certified evaluators who wear specialized monocles or attuned goggles to inspect magical weaves.
- Acquisition and Purchasing Procedures: In metropolitan commercial centers, Spirit 842 of Engrace is marketed not as an ordinary piece of survival gear, but as an exotic northern relic and functional fashion statement. The merchant maintains a detailed provenance certificate noting the artisan’s mark, lineage, and the specific tier rating of the interior crystal. Purchasing requires the buyer to formally declare their intent to attune the item, ensuring the buyer does not exceed their tier capacity. The sale is processed immediately through the World Bank, where the merchant verifies the buyer’s deposit balance through a banking ledger or Mind’s Eye registry.
- Purchasing Cost: Due to substantial inter-state transit tariffs, shipping fees aboard maritime sailing vessels or zeppelins, and local city sales taxes (3% in central and state cities), the purchase price in urban boutiques is heavily inflated. The item retails under sellers’ market conditions for 85 to 130 silver coins (or 8.5 to 13 gold coins). Faction members belonging to the sovereign Arcane Crafters Guild or recognized mercantile syndicates can apply their tier 1 discount of 10%, lowering the cost to 76 to 117 silver coins.
- Selling and Liquidation Dynamics: If an avatar attempts to sell this item to an urban haberdasher, the shopkeeper will subject the belt to rigorous identification using active Mind’s Eye focus to confirm that the ivory is authentic and that no hidden curses or active Banishment Marks are woven into the thongs. The merchant will haggle strictly at the 10% tier baseline, extending an initial offer of 8 to 13 silver coins. If the seller appears desperate or poorly dressed, the merchant may attempt to lower the offer, reminding the avatar of the buyer-beware standard. The proceeds are transferred directly into the seller’s World Bank account, generating an administrative transaction log that town bailiffs or tax assessors may examine if the avatar is suspected of unlicensed salvage.
- Dockside Black-Market Fences and Shadow Enclaves:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Operating within the dark recesses of port cities, maritime sewer districts, and unpatrolled dockside warehouses, black-market dens operate entirely outside the jurisdiction of island monarchies, town mayors, and guild inspectors. These locations may masquerade as greasy fish-curing smokehouses, illicit dice parlors, or salvage basements. The proprietors are ruthless independent fences, smugglers, or outcast avatars who operate with a continuous web of informants, monitoring the arrival of adventuring crews carrying goods looted from battlefields or corpses.
- Acquisition and Purchasing Procedures: Acquiring Spirit 842 of Engrace through the black market requires an avatar to obtain an introduction through local criminal contacts or pay a silver coin gate fee to enter the back room. Items displayed here are often salvaged directly from slain possessed avatars whose gear remained after their bodies vaporized into purple sparks. No questions are asked regarding former owners, bloodstains, or broken lineages. Transactions are conducted strictly in hard physical currency; World Bank transfers are entirely forbidden to avoid tax tracing, official scrutiny, and paper trails.
- Purchasing Cost: Black-market vendors demand full retail value or an opportunistic markup if they perceive the buyer has an urgent need for spiritual communication or non-lethal beast pacification. The item sells for 90 to 150 silver coins, payable exclusively in physical gold coins (9 to 15 gold pieces), raw electrum, or physical platinum. No guild discounts or faction concessions are recognized unless the buyer belongs to the specific controlling underworld syndicate, in which case private arrangements must be roleplayed directly with the gang leader.
- Selling and Liquidation Dynamics: Selling to a dockside fence is the fastest method to dispose of gear that may carry local legal encumbrances, stolen marks, or controversial origins. The fence offers no receipts and maintains no ledgers. Payment is made entirely in cold, physical coin. While standard merchants pay only 10% of base value (roughly 5 to 6 silver), a black-market fence who possesses an immediate overseas buyer or an assassin contract requiring untraceable spirit-communion gear may offer double the standard merchant rate, paying between 10 and 16 silver coins in hard physical currency. However, if the fence realizes the seller is injured, fleeing law enforcement, or low on health points, they will exploit the seller’s vulnerability and drop the payout to as little as 2 silver coins.
- Overland Covered Wagon Caravans and Rural Waystation Peddlers:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Operating along the rutted country highways connecting coastal ports to central capital cities, traveling peddlers conduct business out of reinforced, canvas-topped freight wagons. These wagons are outfitted with exterior hanging racks, iron storage lockboxes, and heavy draft beasts. The peddler’s family lives and works out of the wagon, traveling under the intermittent protection of the island nation’s military road patrols. Encounters occur at crossroads inns, fortified waystations, or ferry crossings where wagons congregate to form temporary evening defensive rings against wild beasts and marauding monsters.
- Acquisition and Purchasing Procedures: Trade with wagon peddlers is highly informal and driven by immediate travel necessities. A peddler examines the prospective buyer from the wagon seat, keeping a loaded crossbow or steam-charged deterrent close at hand. The buyer inspects the merchandise directly on the tailgate. Because these traders must pay 5% state border crossing taxes whenever traversing provincial boundaries, their stock fluctuates continuously as they sell off bulky inventory to minimize transit weight and reduce their monthly property assessment fees.
- Purchasing Cost: In rural areas, where formal taxes and gate fees are non-existent, prices are tied directly to road conditions, weather, and distance from the nearest city. Spirit 842 of Engrace generally commands between 60 and 80 silver coins from a wagon peddler. If the trade takes place within rural boundaries, the seller incurs no municipal sales taxes, though the peddler may demand a surcharge if the road ahead is known to be infested with territorial monsters that could be pacified by the belt’s magic.
- Selling and Liquidation Dynamics: Traveling peddlers maintain tight physical coin reserves, preferring barter over direct coin payouts. When an avatar sells the belt to a wagon trader, the peddler calculates their offer based on the 10% tier formula (yielding 5 to 7 silver coins), but will actively attempt to settle the balance in trade goods rather than coin. The seller may be offered rations, lamp oil, black powder, spare crossbow bolts, or common crafting reagents of equivalent value. If coin is paid, the transaction is registered on a parchment manifest to be submitted at the next municipal checkpoint, and the transaction is credited either in hard silver or through a signed draft redeemable at a city guildhall.
- Economic Taxation, Banking Fees, and Transport Overhead:
- Commercial Tax Adjustments: All legitimate sales of Spirit 842 of Engrace within municipal borders are subject to legal tariffs dictated by the island monarchy’s four governing bodies. If the item is sold within a designated Central City or State Capital, a 3% point-of-sale tax is levied on the transaction value. If the item is merely passing through a city or port under transport manifest, a 1% transit fee is extracted at the gates or wharves. Foreign avatars pay double the tax rate levied on local registered citizens for all commercial property transactions and gate passages.
- World Bank Levies and Registry Costs: Whenever transaction proceeds are deposited into a character’s account via the god of commerce’s banking institutions, an automatic 1% administrative surcharge is deducted and rounded up to the nearest copper coin. For a sale generating 6 silver coins (60 copper), the bank extracts 1 copper piece as a service deduction, crediting 5 silver and 9 copper to the character’s Mind’s Eye ledger.
- Physical Coin Encumbrance Versus Storage: Avatars transacting in large volumes of hard copper, nickel, or silver must account for physical bulk and weight while transporting their wealth between settlements. If coin bags are carried openly or tied to belts, they represent a significant physical burden and attract the attention of highwaymen and predatory monsters along unpatrolled roads. Placing the coins inside an Extradimensional Pouch eliminates all coin weight, bypassing encumbrance restrictions and protecting monetary assets until the next commercial negotiation takes place.
Tactical Application, Environmental Adaptation, and Roleplay Execution of Spirit 842 of Engrace in Defense and Offense
- Subarctic Tundra, Permafrost Bogs, and Glacial Scree:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: In the high-latitude island territories such as Thule, Dorset, and Kachemak, the terrain is characterized by permafrost plains, treacherous peat mires, and razor-sharp fields of glacial moraine. The weather alternates rapidly between clear, sub-zero days beneath the pale light of Helios and ferocious blizzards driven by atmospheric pressure shifts off the northern oceans. Underfoot, the ground is deceptive; moss-covered peat can conceal freezing quagmires, and glazed ice hides bottomless crevasses. In this frozen expanse, sound travels for miles across the snow, making harsh, erratic noises a liability while rhythmic, natural cadences blend seamlessly into the whistling wind.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When navigating unstable muskeg or crossing thin river ice, the avatar leans into the passive Permafrost Stride. The roleplay involves adopting an upright, buoyant posture, keeping the knees slightly bent and allowing the hips to sway in a steady, rolling motion. The rawhide thongs and bone beads shift against the leather band, emitting a rhythmic, muffled rustling that mimics the sound of wind-blown scrub grass. This kinetic weight dispersion prevents the avatar from breaking through delicate crusts, avoiding environmental pit traps and cold-water immersion hazards that would otherwise inflict fatigue or hypothermic damage.
- Upon suspecting an ambush by white-furred predators or subterranean frost worms, the avatar expends one action to execute the Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits. The player roleplays this by dropping their center of gravity, performing a swift three-step lateral shuffle in the snow, and striking the central mammoth ivory disc three times with the heel of a gloved hand. As the silver energy ripples through the permafrost, the avatar perceives the thermal and physical outlines of camouflaged predators buried beneath the snowdrifts up to 30 feet away. If the avatar has previously learned the ancient, localized true name of the glacial valley through prior library research, speaking that name under their breath doubles the detection field to 60 feet, completely stripping subterranean foes of their surprise advantage.
- Against incoming melee strikes from feral frost beasts, the belt’s innate +1 Armor Check bonus is roleplayed as an instinctual, rhythmic pivot. Because the wearer’s mind is kept lucid by the Cadence of Peaceful Composure, the avatar avoids panic-induced hesitation when a massive predator lunges. The avatar sidesteps along the tempo established by the chiming bronze clappers, allowing the attacker’s claws to glance harmlessly off the reinforced reindeer hide and ivory disc rather than penetrating vital organs.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When confronting a pack of ravenous winter wolves or a territorial polar bear guarding a frozen passage, the avatar initiates an offensive opening using the Shamanic Pacification Whisper. The avatar expends their first action to lock eyes with the alpha beast, maintaining a rigid, silent stance while deliberately pressing their thumb against the side rattle to stifle its chime. Channelling focused thought through the tier 1 crystal, the avatar releases an invisible psychic ripple. The player describes the predator suddenly arresting its charge, shaking its frosted snout in confusion, and lowering its hackles as the feral aggression dissolves into territorial indifference for one minute.
- With the primary beast pacified, the avatar utilizes their second combat action (retaining one-half damage output under iterative attack rules) to strike an unpacified flanker using a handheld weapon attuned upon draw. The kinetic tempo of the belt assists the avatar in timing the swing, rolling their d20 attack die alongside their tier 1 damage die (1d4).
- In extended encounters within ancient glacial tombs, the avatar utilizes the Ritual Chanting of the Ancestral Chorus prior to breaching the inner sanctum. Operating under ritual casting rules for greater than six seconds, the avatar engages in deep throat-singing, stamping their boots into the frozen earth while moving in a clockwise circle. The player roleplays the manifestation of an ancient northern hunter spirit, whose translucent form points toward the brittle structural fractures in an ice elemental’s physical shell. This ritual provides up to a 25% increase in tactical potency, revealing the exact damage vulnerabilities of the guardian and allowing the adventuring party to coordinate their initial attack run with precision.
- Subterranean Caverns, Fungal Grottoes, and Mining Labyrinths:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Deep beneath the volcanic crust of Saṃsāra lie vast interconnected cave systems, abandoned dwarven delve-works, and subterranean megacities carved into basalt bedrock. These dark environments lack natural sunlight, relying on the faint ultraviolet luminescence of magical lichens or the dim infrared glow of subterranean magma vents. In these enclosed stone chambers, sound echoes with extreme intensity, and the pressure of the earth creates a constant sense of claustrophobia. Ground vibrations travel through the solid stone, making surface tremor-sense a prevalent danger among subterranean monstrosities.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Navigating cavern ledges overlooking bottomless chasms or traversing slippery, damp flowstone, the avatar relies on the Cadence of Peaceful Composure to ward off sensory overwhelm. In an echoing cavern where dripping water and scuttling sounds might induce the Dazed or Shaken condition, the steady, rhythmic clicking of the belt’s river pebbles acts as a psychic filter. The player roleplays the avatar closing their eyes for a brief moment, breathing in meter with the belt’s auditory pulses, and maintaining steady footing across damp, slick slate without succumbing to the disorienting echoes of the dark.
- When ambushed by subterranean burrowers such as ankhegs or rock-crawlers, the avatar uses the +1 Armor Check deflection defensively. The player describes how the thick mammoth ivory plate absorbs the glancing strike of a chitinous mandible, the polished surface deflecting the blow outward away from the avatar’s abdominal wall. Because the belt is soul-attuned, the impact causes the bronze clappers to ring out a sharp chime that briefly scatters the auditory senses of blind subterranean predators that rely on acoustic echo-location.
- In encounters with subterranean gas pockets or unseen sinkholes, the avatar utilizes the Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits. Tapping the ivory centerpiece with a stone chisel or knuckle in a rapid triple-meter, the emitted pulse illuminates unstable cave ceilings and weak rock bridges within 30 feet, highlighting structurally compromised stone in a pale violet hue and allowing the party to reroute their defensive line away from impending cave-ins.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When hunting hostile troglodytic war bands or subterranean horrors in the deep tunnels, the avatar executes an offensive ambush using the belt’s Harmonic Rapport of the Unseen. Because the passive ability detects the emotional disposition and presence of spiritual and elemental entities within 30 feet, the avatar can track earth elementals or restless spirits bound to ancient subterranean crypts before entering a cavern. The player roleplays feeling a subtle temperature drop along the leather girdle and an acute tingling in the pit of their stomach, signaling that a hostile entity lurks behind the adjacent cave wall.
- Upon initiating combat, the avatar expends an action to execute the Shamanic Pacification Whisper against an enemy’s subterranean pack beast or war-lizard. By projecting a silent wave of calming arcane thought through the tier 1 crystal, the war-beast ceases advancing and ignores its handler’s commands, causing immediate tactical disarray in the enemy ranks.
- To conclude an engagement against an entrenched burrowing horror, the avatar roleplays invoking the true name of the cavern system if unearthed during previous research. Uttering the true name while launching a weapon attack channels the resonant power of the world’s weave, ensuring that the tier 1 pass-through damage (1d4 added to base weapon damage) strikes with doubled potency, shattering the creature’s rocky carapace and forcing an immediate retreat.
- Maritime Vessels, Coastal Reefs, and Open Oceanic Transits:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Ocean voyages across Saṃsāra are governed by the relentless global equatorial current that sweeps surface waters continuously from east to west, pulled by the orbital mechanics of the gas giant VaporSphere. Coastal regions are dense with jagged barrier reefs, shallow sandbars, and unpredictable tidal surges that rise up to four feet twice daily. Aboard wooden sailing caravels and outrigger longships, the movement is violent and incessant, with pitching decks slick with brine, crashing waves, and howling gale winds that batter the rigging.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When a sudden tempest threatens to toss the avatar across a storm-swept deck or when walking narrow gunwales during high-seas combat, the Permafrost Stride is adapted to the slick wood and rolling pitch of the vessel. The player roleplays the avatar matching their center of mass to the cadence of the swaying ship, with the bronze pendants of the belt acting as an acoustic plumb line. As the ship drops into a wave trough, the avatar plants their feet in harmony with the swing of the belt, entirely resisting the Prone condition caused by wet deck boarding actions or sudden hull impacts.
- In defensive boarding engagements where sea-raiders or aquatic monstrosities breach the ship’s bulwarks, the avatar uses the belt’s +1 Armor Check bonus against boarding pikes and cutlasses. The player narrates how the swinging leather thongs and heavy bronze clappers entangle the tip of a thrusting harpoon, altering the angle of the weapon just enough to cause it to skid across the thick leather girdle without penetrating the flesh beneath.
- When navigating uncharted coastal shoals obscured by sea fog, the avatar uses the Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits from the vessel’s bowsprit. Executing the rhythmic footwork against the wooden prow and clapping the ivory disc sends a sonar-like magical vibration through the water. This reveals the jagged spires of submerged coral reefs and shallow sandbars within 30 feet, giving the helmsman the exact reactionary window needed to alter course and prevent hull breach.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- During naval skirmishes with rival sailing craft, the avatar climbs the rigging or steps to the forecastle to initiate the Ritual Chanting of the Ancestral Chorus. Defying the roar of the sea, the avatar raises their voice in a resonant maritime chant, synchronizing their vocal cadence with the snapping of the canvas sails and the rhythmic slapping of the bronze clappers against their thigh. This uninterrupted ritual draws forth the translucent form of a drowned navigator whose bones rest upon the seabed below. The departed navigator reveals the blind spots of the opposing vessel’s hull and the exact location of their powder magazine, granting the avatar’s crew crucial tactical intelligence that increases boarding and ballista accuracy.
- If an attacking boarding party utilizes trained hunting reptiles or predatory sea-beasts, the avatar deploys the Shamanic Pacification Whisper as their first combat action. Silently channeling the tier 1 crystal’s energy through a sharp strike to the hip rattle, the avatar pacifies the lead boarding beast. The creature drops into a docile stupor on the wet deck, refusing to attack the ship’s crew and blocking the gangway for the raiders attempting to charge behind it.
- Following the pacification, the avatar draws an attuned boarding saber as a free component of an attack action, utilizing their remaining tier 1 action to cut down the disoriented beast handler. The tier 1 die (1d4) passes directly into the damage total alongside the saber’s base damage, delivering a devastating blow that breaks the enemy’s boarding momentum.
- Primeval Rainforests, Acidic Mires, and Hostile Flora Enclaves:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: The tropical island continents and coastal lowlands feature dense, aggressive rainforests where plant life is in an active, perpetual evolutionary struggle against fauna. In these regions, the vegetation itself possesses arcane and chemical defenses, ranging from strangling strangler-vines and razor-sharp ironwood thorns to predatory pitcher-plants that secrete corrosive enzymes. The forest canopy is so thick that daylight is filtered into an emerald gloom, while the forest floor is a tangled labyrinth of rotting roots, mud, and stagnant pools crawling with toxic insects.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- In navigating treacherous mangrove roots and acidic peat swamps, the Permafrost Stride allows the avatar to step lightly across floating root mats and moss bridges that would submerge under a heavier stride. The player roleplays the avatar walking with a graceful, lifting step, lifting the knees high so the fringe of bone tubes and pebbles skims harmlessly over grasping thorn-vines. This kinetic agility prevents the avatar from becoming Hindered or entangled in quicksand-like marsh mud.
- When moving through territory infested by predatory flora such as strangler-kelp or giant snap-traps, the avatar activates the Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits. Stamping the ground in a sharp, three-beat cadence and clapping the mammoth ivory disc, the magic pulse causes dormant plant traps to twitch and register in the avatar’s Mind’s Eye. The avatar identifies the sensory triggers of the flora within 30 feet, allowing the adventuring party to navigate around concealed acid-pods and razor-ferns without triggering lethal chemical sprays.
- During sudden skirmishes against territorial swamp predators, the +1 Armor Check modifier is described as the natural resilience of the treated reindeer hide and the bone rattles deflecting low, sweeping tail-lashes and venomous fangs. The player narrates that as a venomous serpent strikes from the underbrush, the hanging crane bones and river stones take the brunt of the strike, preventing the fangs from reaching the avatar’s skin and sparing them from debilitating necrotic poison.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- In the thick foliage where visual tracking is impossible, the avatar relies on the Harmonic Rapport of the Unseen to locate hostile entities. The player roleplays sensing the emotional turbulence of concealed predators, describing how the tier 1 crystal warms against the abdomen and pulses with a faint violet vibration whenever a feral stalking cat or venomous hydra moves within 30 feet.
- When confronted by a charging territorial swamp beast, such as a giant marsh-croc or dire boar, the avatar utilizes the Shamanic Pacification Whisper. Without uttering a sound that might give away their position to other predators in the canopy, the avatar channels silent magic into the creature’s central nervous system with a tap of the palm against the belt fringe. The charging beast screeches to a halt, sniffing the air placidly and turning away from the party, allowing the avatars to bypass the guardian entirely or position themselves for a devastating flank attack.
- For coordinated strikes against corrupted plant bastions, the avatar initiates the Ritual Chanting of the Ancestral Chorus. Chanting in low, guttural harmonies that resonate with the hum of the surrounding insects, the avatar summons the spirit of a deceased forest gatherer. The spirit manifests to highlight the core root-heart of the carnivorous grove, directing the party’s weapons toward the plant’s singular vital conduit and enabling an immediate, high-potency strike that destroys the grove’s regenerative capacity.
- Industrialized Steam Metropolises, Clockwork Districts, and Cloud City Disks:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: In the massive metropolitan capitals and sky-borne cities like Copter City or the floating mage towers, the environment is dominated by mechanical transmission systems, high-pressure steam pipes, whirring gears, and elevated walkways of iron grating. In Cloud Cities, gravity fields can invert beneath the massive 3,000-foot floating disks, allowing upside-down construction where workers walk suspended above the open sky. The air is filled with the deafening roar of pneumatic engines, hissing steam valves, and the metallic clatter of industrial machinery, creating an environment utterly alien to primordial nature.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- In environments where inverted gravity disks or high-altitude walkways create vertigo and sudden orientation shifts, the Cadence of Peaceful Composure provides vital mental stability. The player roleplays the avatar ignoring the terrifying drop into the clouds below by tuning their focus exclusively to the familiar, grounded clicking of the river pebbles and bone beads against the leather band. This acoustic focal point prevents the onset of the Dazed or Insane conditions when navigating upside-down architecture, keeping the avatar’s internal equilibrium perfectly aligned with the floating disk’s artificial gravity field.
- When engaging in combat atop narrow, grease-slicked iron gantry cranes, the Permafrost Stride prevents the avatar from slipping on condensed steam or oil slicks. The player narrates that the kinetic dispersion of the belt distributes foot pressure across the iron grating, preventing loss of balance and granting immunity to knock-down effects from adjacent steam valve bursts.
- In defensive urban skirmishes against mechanical constructs or street enforcers, the +1 Armor Check bonus represents the ivory centerpiece deflecting flying shrapnel, steam rivets, and blunt cudgel strikes. The thick reindeer leather cushions the kinetic force, preventing blunt trauma from cracking ribs while the avatar moves between iron machinery pillars for cover.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When tracking rogue constructs or fugitive saboteurs through labyrinthine steam pipe conduits, the avatar utilizes the Somatic Invocation of the Hearth-Spirits. In an urban context, the “hearth” represents the foundational boilers and structural anchors of the city. By executing the triple-beat footstep against the iron flooring and slapping the ivory disc, the pulse reveals hidden maintenance crawlspaces, concealed steam pressure valves, and structural weak points in the masonry within 30 feet, allowing the avatar to cut off a fleeing adversary.
- When confronting an elite sentry riding a steam-powered mechanical mount or accompanied by aggressive guard hounds, the avatar executes the Shamanic Pacification Whisper against the biological beasts. The silent thought-pulse calms the hounds instantly, causing them to sit docilely on the cobblestones despite their handler’s shouted commands, stripping the enemy squad of its frontline interceptors.
- In confrontations with high-ranking guild officials or corrupt corporate barons, the avatar uses the Ritual Chanting of the Ancestral Chorus within the ruins of an older, buried district beneath the industrial metropolis. By executing an uninterrupted ritual dance that cuts through the hum of distant steam dynamos, the avatar summons the spirit of an early architect who constructed the district centuries prior. The spirit reveals secret bypass passwords, forgotten sub-level entrances, and hidden vault coordinates, providing the adventuring party with the exact tactical route needed to infiltrate the baron’s estate without tripping municipal alarms.
- Volcanic Vents, Unstable Magma Flows, and Faultless Tremor Zones:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Saṃsāra is characterized by intense, global volcanic activity driven by internal friction and tidal drag from the gas giant VaporSphere. Because there are no tectonic plates, earthquakes and eruptions occur spontaneously when subterranean magma conduits clog and fracture beneath the crust. Island environments frequently feature active caldera rims, smoking sulfur vents, rivers of bubbling basalt, and rolling tremors that shake the earth without warning. The atmosphere is heavy with suffocating sulfur dioxide, drifting ash plumes, and blistering thermal convection currents.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When traversing jagged basalt fields and crumbling volcanic slag overlooking pools of bubbling magma, the Permafrost Stride ensures the avatar does not break through thin, cooled lava crusts. The player roleplays testing each footing with a sliding, rhythmic step, the bronze clappers singing a sharp warning chime that alerts the avatar to hollow pockets of subterranean gas beneath the crust. This allows the avatar to navigate blistering thermal fields without suffering heat exhaustion or tumbling into molten subterranean vents.
- When sudden seismic tremors ripple through the rock, threatening to cast the entire party Prone, the avatar relies on the Cadence of Peaceful Composure to maintain an unshakable physical and mental center. The steady tempo maintained by the river stones and bone tubes counterbalances the erratic vibration of the ground, allowing the avatar to absorb the shockwaves through their legs without falling.
- In defensive encounters against elemental fire beasts or ash-crawlers, the +1 Armor Check bonus represents the dense ivory plate and treated reindeer hide deflecting bursts of burning pumice and fiery claw swipes. The player describes the ivory disc glowing with a brief flash of purple weave-energy as it turns aside a scorching blade, preventing the flame from catching on the avatar’s outer clothing.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- During a hunting excursion across an active caldera, the avatar utilizes the Harmonic Rapport of the Unseen to detect subterranean fire elementals and magma-dwellers before they breach the surface. The player roleplays noticing a sharp, thermal pulse throbbing through the tier 1 crystal at their navel, combined with an intense vibrational hum from the bone fringe, indicating that a magma horror is ascending through a lava vent 25 feet beneath their position.
- When an enraged magma hound or pyroclastic salamander erupts from the slag, the avatar expends an action to execute the Shamanic Pacification Whisper. Channelling a cold, tranquil psychic wave directly into the fiery entity’s awareness, the avatar pacifies the elemental predator, quelling its flaming crest into a dull ember and rendering it completely passive for one minute.
- To deliver a decisive finishing blow against an elemental foe, the avatar initiates a rapid combat chant. If the avatar has uncovered the ancient true name of the volcano through earlier study at a city library, uttering that true name in conjunction with a weapon attack channels the raw geological power of Gaialilith herself. The resulting strike bypasses the elemental’s natural magma shielding, inflicting double damage through the weapon’s base profile and tier 1 pass-through die (1d4), extinguishing the creature’s core and leaving only cooling obsidian shards in its wake.

Perception of Activation:
- Sensory Breakdown of Activation:
- Visual Perception (Sight):
- User Experience: At the instant of activation, the user experiences a soft shift in visual perception as the ambient light of the environment dims slightly, allowing the ultraviolet spectrum of the weave to manifest. The central mammoth ivory disc glows from within, its incised concentric rings illuminating with a steady, pale violet radiance that pulses in synchrony with the wearer’s heartbeat. Fine, shimmering filaments of purple light emerge from behind the ivory plate, tracing along the braided nettle cordage and wrapping each hanging bronze clapper in a faint, starlike corona. When looking outward, the user perceives translucent, luminous silhouettes of nearby spirits and natural entities hovering at the periphery of sight, outlined in shimmering auroral hues.
- Observer Experience: Bystanders watching the user witness an immediate flash of pale amethyst light bursting from the wearer’s waist. The ivory centerpiece glows like hot, translucent porcelain, casting sharp shadows along the ground. As the bronze clappers swing and chime, tiny violet sparks shed from the edges of the metal and drift downward toward the earth, dissolving into nothingness before touching the ground. If viewed by an observer with True Sight, the entire midsection of the user appears encased in a spinning torus of radiant ultraviolet weave-energy, clearly demarcating the avatar as an active magical focus.
- Auditory Perception (Sound):
- User Experience: The mechanical clatter of the bone tubes and river stones falls into an uncanny acoustic harmony. The sound of the bronze pendants striking one another ceases to register as mere metallic noise; instead, it expands into a deep, sustained harmonic drone that echoes internally through the bones of the user’s pelvis and spine. This rhythmic tone suppresses ambient distractions, muting the roar of winds, rushing waters, or distant combat. At the outer edge of this harmonic resonance, the user distinctly hears faint, polyphonic vocalizations—whispered ancestral throat-singing, low humming, and melodic murmurs that seem to originate from the empty air directly beside their ears.
- Observer Experience: Those standing near the avatar hear the belt emit a sound far louder and richer than ordinary leather and bronze ornaments could produce. The chiming of the metal clappers takes on a bell-like clarity that cuts through environmental uproar, carrying a rhythmic tempo that naturally commands attention. Observers describe hearing a phantom chorus of soft, overlapping voices humming beneath the bronze rings, producing an eerie, reverberating acoustic signature that makes the surrounding space feel suddenly crowded and reverent.
- Olfactory Perception (Smell):
- User Experience: As the tier 1 magic crystal discharges its stored arcane energy, the user’s nasal passages are flooded with a sharp, invigorating scent. The immediate aroma is one of cold, ionized air akin to the ozone left behind by lightning strikes, rapidly followed by the earthy, grounding scents of dried arctic sweetgrass, smoldering alder wood, fresh pine pitch, and damp tundra moss. This olfactory surge cuts through noxious odors, stale cavern air, or the stench of decay, instilling a feeling of crisp wilderness purity.
- Observer Experience: Observers standing downwind or within a five-foot radius of the user detect an abrupt change in the breeze. A sudden waft of fragrant, sweet ceremonial smoke and crisp, sub-zero mountain air washes over them, as though a bundle of sacred herbs had just been cast into an open campfire nearby. Even in a damp swamp, greasy engine workshop, or subterranean crypt, this clean, earthy scent asserts itself prominently.
- Gustatory Perception (Taste):
- User Experience: The user experiences a distinct metallic coolness spreading across the palate, reminiscent of licking clean iron or drinking water melted directly from deep glacial ice. This is followed by a dry, astringent aftertaste across the back of the tongue, similar to the tannic bitterness of boiled willow bark combined with a faint trace of mineral-rich spring salts. This taste induces salivation, clearing the mouth of dry dust or bile.
- Observer Experience: Observers do not taste the magic directly unless they are in immediate physical contact with the user or standing within the silver pulse radius. Those within arm’s reach report a dry, metallic sensation at the tips of their tongues, accompanied by a prickling feeling along their lips similar to the static charge felt when standing close to an unstable arcane engine.
- Tactile and Somatosensory Perception (Touch):
- User Experience: The physical sensation of the belt alters radically. The central ivory disc against the abdomen transitions from room temperature to a soothing, steady warmth that penetrates deep into the user’s core, soothing stomach tension and relaxing the diaphragm for measured breathing. Concurrently, a gentle kinetic vibration passes continuously through the leather thongs and down into the user’s thighs, creating an impression of buoyant lightness. The weight of the avatar’s limbs feels redistributed, as if the pull of gravity has been softened by several fractions, making physical steps feel effortless, elastic, and grounded.
- Observer Experience: Anyone placing a hand on or near the user feels an immediate outward pressure of warm air radiating from the waist. The user’s clothing and the loose fringe of the belt flutter slightly, lifted by a localized updraft of thermal magical energy. Physical touch against the leather or bronze components transmits a harmless but noticeable static vibration that causes fine arm hairs to stand on end.
- Visual Perception (Sight):
- Multiple Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Mind’s Eye Analytical Realization:
- The activation immediately sharpens the user’s Mind’s Eye, projecting an intuitive overlay of structural data directly into their thoughts. Intrinsic statistics of the surrounding environment materialize effortlessly: the precise thickness of ice crusts, the hidden depth of peat bogs, the structural durability of overhead cave formations, and the tier classifications of nearby entities are perceived without active cognitive strain. This data presents itself in whole concepts and instinctual truths, completely bypassing the need for deliberate deduction.
- Soul Sight and Weave Sensitivity:
- The user’s consciousness taps directly into the metaphysical fabric of Saṃsāra. The user perceives the glowing soul-anchors of living beings, monsters, and lingering spirits as distinct points of chromatic light. Spiritual entities appear not merely as shapes, but as distinct currents of intent, allowing the user to read whether a wandering entity is an echo of an innocent deceased soul, a primordial elemental manifestation, or a hostile predatory essence. The silver fire conduit linking Gaialilith’s moon-body to all living organisms becomes palpable as a web of faint, vibrating strings stretching into the heavens.
- Empathic Incline and Non-Verbal Communion:
- An acute empathic reception opens within the user’s mind. The emotional states of creatures within 30 feet—terror, predatory hunger, ancestral grief, territorial defensiveness, or protective devotion—are absorbed not as words, but as direct sensory sensations within the user’s chest. This allows the avatar to navigate social friction, sense imminent betrayals, or anticipate beast lunges before the physical action is initiated.
- Terrestrial Geomorphic Resonance:
- Through the physical contact of the avatar’s feet connected to the rhythmic metronome of the belt, the user gains a primitive tremorsense-adjacent awareness. The user feels the subterranean movement of underground waters, the shifting of magma chambers miles below the crust, and the approach of heavy burrowing creatures moving through the earth, translated into physical pulses against the soles of their footwear.
- Mind’s Eye Analytical Realization:
- Perspectives of the Activation Event:
- User’s Perspective:
- For the avatar wearing the girdle, activation feels like stepping into a warm, harmonious pocket of altered reality. The internal Amygdala panic that normally accompanies combat or wilderness peril is instantly smoothed away by the steady acoustic cadence of the clappers. The avatar does not feel detached or dissociative; rather, they feel hyper-present, deeply rooted into the soil of Saṃsāra, and elevated into a state of graceful dialogue with the world. Movement feels choreographic rather than panicked, decisions are accompanied by instinctual clarity, and the veil between the physical realm and the spiritual history of the land is perceived not as a terrifying void, but as a crowded hall of waiting witnesses ready to converse.
- Observer’s Perspective:
- To an onlooker, the user suddenly transforms from a standard traveler into a ceremonial focal point. The physical posture of the user straightens naturally, their movements acquiring a fluid, rhythmic grace that makes every step, turn, or hand gesture appear intentional and ritualized. The soft, luminous violet light casting out from the waist highlights the user’s silhouette against the dark, while the clear, multi-tonal chiming of bronze and bone creates an undeniable aura of spiritual authority. Friendly observers feel a wave of calm and reassurance wash over them, while aggressive foes or territorial beasts hesitate, suddenly perceiving that the lone avatar is backed by an unseen, ancient presence lingering just beyond physical sight.
- User’s Perspective:
- Comprehensive Positives of Activation:
- Cognitive and Emotional Stabilization: Completely insulates the wearer against emotional overwhelm, eliminating the onset of the Shaken or Dazed conditions, while preserving mental focus under sensory assault.
- Enhanced Environmental Navigability: Grants effortless physical poise and kinetic balance through Permafrost Stride, preventing falls on ice, mud, or grease-slicked industrial platforms, and removing the risk of the Prone condition.
- Immediate Arcane and Tactical Clairvoyance: The somatic pulse illuminates hidden traps, predatory ambushes, and edible wilderness resources within 30 to 60 feet without expending ammunition or weapons.
- Non-Lethal Beast De-escalation: Enables the instantaneous, silent neutralization of feral animal hostility through the Shamanic Pacification Whisper, conserving party health points and resources.
- Direct Historical and Tactical Intelligence: The ancestral ritual unlocks vital topographical, structural, and lore-based intelligence directly from the deceased without requiring expensive library research or divination scrolls.
- Subtle Defensive Fortification: Provides a persistent +1 Armor Check bonus that turns aside glancing blows without imposing weight or mobility encumbrances.
- Comprehensive Negatives of Activation:
- Elimination of Tactical Stealth: The bright violet illumination, shed sparkling motes, and persistent bell-like chiming of bronze clappers make stealth operations utterly impossible while active; enemies possessing normal sight or blind sight can easily track the avatar across hundreds of yards.
- Olfactory and Sensory Tracking Signatures: The sudden release of strong ozone, alder, and sweetgrass scents creates an unmistakable scent trail that predatory beasts or hounds with keen smell can track relentlessly across wilderness terrain.
- Vulnerability During Sustained Rites: Executing the Ancestral Chorus requires continuous vocal and physical performance for greater than six seconds; taking damage or suffering interruption during the rite wastes the action and can leave the avatar vulnerable to iterative enemy strikes.
- Somatosensory Fatigue and Crystal Depletion Risks: Repeated activations demand focused thought and somatic exertion; if the crystal is subjected to extensive usage, every subsequent activation risks triggering the 5% shattering threshold on a rolled 1, which would permanently reduce the item to useless shards until repaired by an artisan.
- Targeted Item Susceptibility: Because the item openly glows and chimes at the waist, intelligent foes and martial combatants can readily identify it as an active focus and declare a targeted item attack against the waist slot, risking deactivation, unattunement, and physical destruction of the ivory plate.

- Measuring and Tuning Apparatus: An acoustic pitch fork or tuned resonant copper chime bar, alongside fine rawhide tension gauges.
- Skill Requirements:
- Leatherworking and Hidecrafting: Minimum skill level of 5 in Hidecrafting. The crafter must possess the knowledge of brain-tanning, edge skiving, alder-dye stabilization, and wet-forming leather around rigid cores.
- Ivory and Bone Lapidary: Minimum skill level of 3 in Bone Carving. The crafter must be capable of incising concentric cosmological relief lines without splitting brittle fossil ivory or overheating the organic matrix.
- Metallurgy and Planishing: Minimum skill level of 2 in Bronze Tinkering. The artisan must know how to cold-work sheet bronze to achieve work-hardening without annealing, ensuring the clappers produce clear, bright chime tones upon physical impact.
- Arcane Crafting and Enchantment: Minimum skill level of 5 in Arcane Infusion, plus an additional skill level equal to the tier rating of the resulting item (totaling a minimum skill requirement of 6). The crafter must be able to anchor the weave into the Tier 1 crystal, establish simple attunement conduits, and prevent catastrophic dissipation during physical seating.
- Crafting Steps:
- Step 1: Hide Curing, Dyeing, and Strap Foundation:
- Take the four-inch-wide strip of reindeer hide and scrape the flesh side using a dull drawknife until completely uniform in density and thickness.
- Boil the alder bark shavings in soft rainwater until a deep reddish-brown liquid forms; steep the leather strip in the warm liquor for twelve continuous hours.
- Immerse the dyed strap into iron-rich bog muck for two hours to fix the pigment into a dark, weather-resistant ochre hue, then rinse clean in cold running river water.
- While the leather is damp, skive the outer edges to a forty-five-degree bevel and rub the surface vigorously with rendered tallow until supple, flexible, and resistant to brine and frost.
- Punch thirty-six evenly spaced suspension holes along the lower edge of the central twenty-four inches of the belt, leaving the terminal ties smooth and unpierced.
- Step 2: Carving and Relieving the Ivory Centerpiece:
- Cut the fossilized mammoth ivory block to an elliptical profile measuring three inches by six inches using the bow-saw, keeping the workpiece submerged in cool water to prevent dust inhalation and heat cracking.
- Inscribe a sequence of nine concentric cosmological rings across the front face using fine-point burins, maintaining a uniform groove depth of one millimeter to symbolize the physical, ancestral, and celestial realms.
- On the reverse side of the ivory plate, gouge out a precise oval cavity exactly matching the dimensions of the selected Tier 1 magic crystal, ensuring a snug lateral seat.
- Drill four miniature angled perimeter channels from the back edges to permit rawhide anchoring thongs, and buff the carved outer face with garnet grit until it displays a smooth eggshell luster.
- Step 3: Cold-Hammering and Tuning the Bronze Clappers:
- Use the hand shears to cut twelve teardrop-shaped leaves from the cold-hammered bronze sheet, each leaf measuring two inches in length and one inch at its widest point.
- Place each bronze leaf upon the small hand anvil and work the surface with the round face of the planishing hammer, producing shallow overlapping dimples that work-harden the metal.
- Punch a single two-millimeter suspension hole at the narrow stem of each clapper leaf using the needle punch.
- Tap each finished clapper with a copper rod to test its acoustic resonance; adjust the curve of the leaf until each piece rings with a sustained, bell-like chime rather than a flat, dull thud.
- Step 4: Preparing the Bone Tubes and River Stone Weights:
- Cut the boiled crane bones into twenty-four tubular cylinders, each measuring one and a half inches in length, using a fine-toothed hand saw.
- Ream out the interior hollows with an awl to ensure smooth clearance, then rub the exterior surfaces with sand and tallow to remove sharp burrs.
- Take the twenty-four river pebbles and construct individual rawhide net cradles around each stone using split sinew cordage, leaving a two-inch loop extending upward for fringe attachment.
- Verify that each encased stone acts as a ballast weight, calibrated to pull the fringe thongs straight down during physical movement.
- Step 5: Extracting and Preparing the Fluid Resin Matrix:
- Utilizing the fluid collector, pierce the outer bark of a living alpine pine tree at early dawn and draw two fluid ounces of thick, aromatic sap into the collection chamber.
- Transfer the collected sap into a stone melting pot over low embers, mixing in four drops of alder distillate to prevent crystallization during cooling.
- Maintain the resin at a steady, lukewarm viscosity, keeping it shielded from direct open flame to prevent scorching the volatile aromatic fractions.
- Step 6: Crystal Embedding and Arcane Sealing:
- Place the coin-sized Tier 1 Magic Crystal into the rear recess of the carved ivory centerpiece.
- Coat the margins of the crystal with the prepared lukewarm pine resin, seating the gem firmly against the organic ivory wall to eliminate physical wobble.
- The artisan must channel their focused thought through their spell focus, directing a slow, steady pulse of personal mana into the crystal bed over twelve minutes.
- The crystal must be monitored via the Mind’s Eye until its resonance stabilizes into a faint violet glow that syncs with the natural acoustic vibration of the ivory plate; if a structural flaw appears or the gem fails to hold charge, the crystal must be extracted before the resin sets.
- Step 7: Assembly of the Kinetic Fringe Array:
- Thread thirty-six separate nine-inch thongs of supple reindeer hide through the punched holes along the bottom edge of the main girdle.
- Onto each fringe thong, string an alternating sequence: first one bone cylinder, then one net-cradled river pebble, followed by a second bone cylinder, terminating with a suspended bronze clapper leaf at the base.
- Secure each terminal component with a double-wrapped sinew half-hitch knot, sealing the knot with a drop of warm pine resin.
- Fasten the ivory and crystal assembly directly to the center of the belt using four braided nettle cords passed through the angled perimeter holes, pulling the cords taut and tying them off on the inner side of the belt.
- Step 8: Acoustic Metronome Balancing:
- Suspend the completed girdle from a horizontal wooden rod and initiate a swinging pendulum motion across the entire lower fringe.
- Observe the physical contact between the components; the bronze clappers must strike the adjacent river pebbles and bone cylinders in a continuous, multi-tonal cascade without snagging or tangling.
- Trim and balance any thongs that hang unevenly, ensuring that a simple lateral sway of the belt generates an unbroken, rain-like acoustic rustle that transitions smoothly into a ringing chime upon sharper impacts.
- Step 9: Consecration and Final Harmonization:
- Ignite the ceremonial smudge braid of sweetgrass, sage, and spruce needles within a clay brazier.
- Pass the assembled girdle through the aromatic smoke forty-nine times while speaking the formal incantation of hospitality to the local land spirits, acknowledging Gaialilith’s domain over the moon’s living fabric.
- Allow the item to absorb the resinous smoke until the sweetgrass scent thoroughly impregnates the pores of the reindeer hide and nettle cordage.
- Roll a d20 to verify the structural stability of the craft: an outcome of 2 through 20 confirms complete integration with an item resilience rating of 10 and a maximum hit point pool equal to the wearer’s base plus 10; an outcome of 1 represents a catastrophic failure of the resin matrix, shattering the Tier 1 crystal into useless shards and requiring replacement of the catalyst.
- Step 1: Hide Curing, Dyeing, and Strap Foundation:
Singing Belly-Harness and Great White Snout-Beast of Moss-Wastes
In the day when the high lamp-star Helios stood at the middle of the sky without any bending of shadows, and the great swollen ball VaporSphere hung in the high heavens like an eye of curdled milk, it came to pass that many men and women plummeted downwards from the roof of the cloud-vault. They did fall like dead seeds shaken from a dry pod, yet they did not break upon the stones of the moon Saṃsāra, for the great earth-mother Gaialilith caught them in the palms of her unseen winds and blew them into the cold mud of the northern islands. And when these fallen ones arose out of the wet tundra, their heads were filled with the gray fog of the divine forgetting-pestilence. They did look upon their own hands and weep, for they knew not the names of their villages, nor did they remember what manner of meat their mothers had cooked in the ancient pots of the multiverse that was lost behind them.
Among these wet and trembling people was a hunter whose tongue could only utter the noise Kholun-of-the-Frozen-Knee, which in the speech of the forgotten North-Men signifieth The-Man-Who-Standeth-Erect-When-the-Ice-Cracks. His eye did see the world in hues of sorrowful yellow and harsh pink, yet when he looked upon the mosses and the wandering hairy beasts, he saw them surrounded by strange rings of deep plum-color, for magic was like grease upon all the flesh of this land. But the wilderness of that island was not empty, nor was it kind. In the darkness of the dwarf-willow forests there dwelt the grandfather-beast which the scribes of old have named The-Thousand-Winter-Tusk-Crusher, an abomination having the bulk of four wagons, the skin of a horned toad, and four great tusks of curved horn that could plow a river through solid slate.
Now the people of Kholun were starved, their bellies making the hollow noise of empty gourds. Whenever the young men took spears of fire-hardened spruce to hunt the small moss-eating goats, the great tusk-crusher would burst forth from the shaking permafrost bogs. With its mouth-knives it did shatter their wooden lances into fire-wood, and it did cast the hunters into the glacial lakes, until all the newly fallen ones sat within their caves and covered their heads with skins, waiting for death to swallow their breath. When the warrior-maidens went out with arrows, the beast did only enrage its liver, and its roar caused the mountains to shake down their avalanches, for the monsters of this realm are not simple beasts of earth, but do hold the memory of past slayings and are stubborn like iron.
In the middle-watch of the night, while Helios hid his face beneath the rim of the ocean and the eclipse-chill made the stones of the earth split with loud rifle-noises, Kholun sat by a little ember of dry lichen. He did not ask of the gods of his lost world, for they were far away and Gaialilith ruled the breathing stones of Saṃsāra with an iron fist. Instead, he took his knife of chipped flint and sat in the smoke. And behold, an unseen grandfather-wind—which is to say, an ancestral ghost whose bones had rotted ten thousand seasons before the people fell from the sky—came and blew into the hollow of Kholun’s ear.
The grandfather-wind spoke in words that smelled of dried birch-bark and river-silt, saying: O small fallen soul whose head is empty of grandfather-tales, why dost thou carry sharp sticks against that which was born of the moon’s first boiling? Thou canst not pierce the mountain with a thorn, nor canst thou teach manners to the storm by throwing stones into the cloud. If thou wouldst walk among the four-legged lords and the ghosts who drink the frost, thou must put on the beauty of the drum. Thou must do the work of Engrace, which is the making of a smooth face, a sweet song, and a dancing foot before those who have the power to rend thy ribs.
When Kholun inquired of the ghost what thing must be fashioned to make this Engrace, the grandfather-wind showed him a picture within the eye of his inward mind. Therefore, Kholun arose before the noon-star stood high. He took not his spear, nor his iron-cleaver, but he took his scraper of slate and his bone-borer.
First, he went unto the river-flat where the great horned moss-runners had died of old age, and he took a broad strap from the skin of an ancient stag, boiling it in the black liquor of the alder-tree and treading it into the sour mud of the iron-bog until it was tough like boiled horn and dark as dried blood.
Second, he went unto the river of melting ice and crawled upon his stomach into the deep mud-banks, where he dug out a great flat tooth-slab from the long-dead nose-trunk monster that lived when the world was young. He sat upon a stone for forty sun-risings, cutting upon the ivory plate the nine circles of the sky, the nine circles of the earth, and the nine circles of the hole beneath the earth where the dead dwell, until the bone shone like the grease of fat ducks.
Third, he took twelve thin leaves of the red-and-yellow copper-metal which the ancient men did beat while it was cold, shaping them like the dropping tears of women, and he took twenty-and-four leg-sticks from the white flying-birds of the swamp, and twenty-and-four round black pebbles that had been sucked smooth by the great northern sea.
Fourth, in the belly-cavity of the ivory slab he placed a little pebble of purple sky-glass, which was a crystal of the first tier, dropped from the heart of a fallen star. He bound all these things together with the twisted strings of the stinging-nettle herb, so that when the harness was lifted, it did not say clatter-bang like the weapons of foolish killers, but it did make the sound of shhh-shhh-ring-clang, like summer rain falling upon a tin kettle while the bell of a distant pagoda is shaken by the breeze.
When Kholun did gird his loins with this stomach-strap, behold, a wonder was worked upon his marrow. His legs, which had been heavy with weeping, became like the legs of water-bugs that skate upon the surface of deep pools without breaking the skin of the water. The mud did not suck his shoes, and the permafrost did not bite through his soles. When he walked, his hips did swing in the manner of a priest who carries a bowl of sacred grease, and every step was a song of three parts: bone to pebble, pebble to copper, copper to the ear of the spirits.
Then the people cried out from their caves: Whither goest thou, O Kholun of the empty head? Dost thou go to feed the great tusk-crusher with thy fat, that thou hast put on the tinkling belt of a maiden instead of thy mail-coat?
Kholun answered them not, for the strap around his belly was singing into his navel, and the purple glass within the ivory did throb like a second heart. He walked out upon the great plain where the moss was torn and the black earth was vomited up by the fury of the beast.
There, sitting upon a mound of splintered spruce trees, was the Thousand-Winter-Tusk-Crusher. Its eyes were like two pots of boiling whale-oil, red and without sleep. Its nostrils did snort out steam that froze into white needles in the air, and upon its tusks were dried the dark juices of many hunters who had sought to make a name by the killing of flesh. When the monster saw Kholun walking alone without a shield, it did open its throat-hole, and the sound that came forth was like the tearing of copper plates in a blacksmith’s gale. It lowered its great horned head and did run upon him, its six hooves splitting the frozen bog until the water gushed out black and stinking.
Kholun did not run backward, which is the path of cowards, nor did he set a pike forward, which is the path of the foolish slaughterer. Instead, he did bend his knees in the ancient way of the river-people. He made three steps to the right side, stamping his heel so that the bone tubes struck the river-pebbles, tock-tock-tock. Then he leaped two steps to the left side, clapping his flat hands against the ivory face of the mammoth tooth, pau-pau. The bronze leaves swung in the air, catching the light of the great green globe of VaporSphere above, and they gave forth a ringing that was sweet and sharp, like the crying of geese returning in the season of budding willows.
From his deep chest, Kholun brought forth the throat-music which is two voices at one time: the low bull-moan that shaketh the belly, and the high bird-whistle that wandereth in the roof of the mouth. He sang the true name of the bog; he sang the true name of the cold wind; he sang the hospitality-praise to Gaialilith who alloweth worms and kings to drink from the same puddle of melted snow.
Behold, when the sound went forth, it was not an arrow to pierce meat, but it was an unknotting of bitter sinews. The grandfather-winds of the tundra came swarming out of the stones, thousands of gray-faced ones, and they took hold of the music, singing along with the rattling bones of the belt. The great cloud of violet weave-sparks came down out of the ivory slab and settled like warm feathers upon the snout of the monster.
The beast arrested its running. Its hooves slid twenty paces through the torn peat, throwing up clods of black earth, until its steaming snout stopped three fingers from Kholun’s stomach-harness. The monster did sniff the reindeer leather; it did sniff the sweetgrass smoke and the bitter alder juice. The red fire in its round eyes turned into the soft yellow of tallow-candles. The great tusks, which had broken the shields of heroes, dropped downward into the moss. It breathed forth a great sigh of warm mist that smelled of chewed sedge and ancient mud, and it lay down its gigantic chin upon the boots of Kholun, whining with the voice of a fat dog that cometh to the hearth-fire after three days in the snow.
Then Kholun put forth his right hand, which carried no knife, and he stroked the rough skin between the monster’s horns, speaking softly: O grandfather-with-the-knives-in-the-mouth, let there be peace between the cave-dwellers and thy herd, for we are both travelers under the eye of Helios, and the moon Saṃsāra is wide enough for thy horns and our cook-pots.
And the beast did close its red eyes and sleep. While it slept, the hunters came out of their holes, crawling upon their hands and knees with wide eyes, and they saw that the tinkling girdle of leather, bronze, and bone had broken the wrath that ten score spear-heads could not bend. From that day forth, the great beast guarded the borders of their tundra against the wild dragons of the sea, and Kholun taught the young men that before one draweth the string of the hunting-bow, one must first sing the song of the belt, that the soul of the prey may be made willing to die, and the spirits of the land may not curse the pot.
Thus was the first harness worn until Kholun passed into the cloud of purple sparks at the end of his days, and the artisans of the tribe did make copies of the sacred girdle, carving the concentric circles and setting the singing bronze, even unto the eight hundred and forty-second iteration, which wandereth yet through the market-halls and road-wagons of the world.
The moral of the story is that the violent hand which seeketh only to conquer the wild world with iron and arrogance will ever find its bones crushed under the hooves of that which is older and stronger, whereas the heart that approacheth the strange, the beast, and the spirit with the measured rhythm of grace, reverent ceremony, and harmonious communion shall turn the wrath of monsters into a shield and walk with light feet through the most perilous wilderness without falling.

Call of Cthulhu (7th Edition)
The Cincture of Northern Reconciliation
- Item Classification and Physical Attributes:
- Type: Unique Siberian Shamanic Regalia and Arcane Focus.
- Physical Dimensions: Width of four inches, length of forty-eight inches, weighing approximately three pounds.
- Materials: Reindeer hide stained with alder and bog-iron, an oval plate of carved Siberian mammoth ivory, twelve cold-hammered bronze clapper pendants, twenty-four crane bone cylinders, twenty-four river stones in sinew nets, and an embedded irregular violet quartz nodule possessing strange refractive luminescence.
- Physical Protection: Grants 1 point of mundane armor to the wearer’s abdomen and lower torso against primitive piercing and slashing attacks; does not protect against modern firearms.
- Mental and Spiritual Toll:
- Initial Binding Cost: Attuning the girdle requires a successful Occult or Anthropology skill roll during a solitary one-hour meditation, accompanied by the permanent loss of 1 Magic Point and an immediate Sanity check (0/1D3 Sanity loss) as the investigator’s subconscious mind harmonizes with the alien consciousness of the land.
- Ethereal Sensitivity: While worn, any sanity loss suffered from witnessing disembodied spirits, ghosts, or dimensional apparitions is reduced by 1 point (to a minimum of 0), as the rhythmic clatter provides mental anchoring against supernatural terror.
- Passive Modifiers and Functional Abilities:
- Cadence of Rapport: The constant chime of the bronze and bone components acts as a somatic metronome. The wearer gains one Bonus Die on all Charm, Persuade, and Animal Handling rolls directed toward indigenous fauna, traditional northern tribal elders, or domesticated beasts.
- Spectral Perception: Grants an automatic +20% bonus to Listen and Spot Hidden checks specifically when attempting to detect the presence of lingering spirits, hauntings, or subtle dimensional disturbances within 10 yards.
- Permafrost Balance: The investigator automatically succeeds on standard DEX rolls required to maintain physical footing when traversing ice, deep snow, slippery peat mud, or wet scree.
- Active Spells and Arcane Operations:
- Pacification of the Feral Beast:
- Magic Point Cost: 2 Magic Points.
- Casting Time: 1 combat round.
- Operational Method: The user strikes the central mammoth ivory plate three times with the flat of the palm and locks eyes with an aggressive animal or feral predator within 10 yards.
- Resolution: The investigator engages in an opposed POW roll against the target beast. On a success, the beast’s aggressive drive is immediately neutralized for 1D10 rounds, causing it to halt its charge, lower its head, and refuse to attack unless it suffers physical damage.
- Chant of the Ancestral Voice:
- Magic Point Cost: 5 Magic Points.
- Sanity Cost: 1 Sanity point.
- Casting Time: 10 minutes of continuous throat singing and circular dance steps, requiring a successful Art/Craft (Singing, Dance, or Instrumental) roll.
- Resolution: Bridges the physical boundary to call forth the pale, translucent apparition of a person deceased within the local area (within one mile) whose body remains unburned. The entity is compelled to answer three direct questions regarding the geographical terrain, local hazards, or the identity of creatures residing nearby. If the investigator rolls a Fumble (96-100), the call attracts a hostile or insane dimensional entity instead.
- Ethereal Pulse:
- Magic Point Cost: 1 Magic Point.
- Casting Time: Instantaneous (1 action).
- Resolution: The violet quartz releases an imperceptible wave across a 15-yard radius. For the following ten minutes, the investigator can visually perceive hidden natural water sources, concealed physical snares, and the precise footprint tracks left by living organisms across the last twenty-four hours.
- Pacification of the Feral Beast:
- Drawbacks and Complications:
- Auditory Profile: The clappers produce a continuous jingling noise during movement; any Stealth rolls attempted while wearing the belt suffer one Penalty Die.
- Fragility of the Stone Core: If an active magical operation results in a roll of 100 on percentile dice, the violet quartz fractures internally, inflicting 1D4 damage to the wearer from crystalline shock and rendering all magical capabilities permanently inert until replaced by an experienced lapidary.
Blades in the Dark
The Whispering Cincture of the Severed Wastes
- Item Classification and Gear Allocation:
- Category: Fine Arcane Implement / Rare Occult Vestment.
- Load: 1 Load (Equipped as a worn accessory at the waist; can be concealed under a heavy winter coat with careful packing, though moving silently becomes difficult).
- Quality: Tier I Fine Item (Functions at Tier II effectiveness when assessing Potency against ghosts, spirits, electroplasmic manifestations, and hollows).
- Narrative Function and Mechanical Rules:
- Armor Functionality:
- Sure-Footed Armor: The wearer may tick the standard Armor box on their character sheet to completely absorb or negate a physical consequence related to falling, slipping, losing balance on icy rooftops, or stumbling into treacherous quagmires and canals.
- Ghost Field Attunement:
- Harmonic Rapport: When the scoundrel takes the Attune action to open their senses to the ghost field, communicate with a wandering spirit, or assess electroplasmic currents, they gain +1 Effect level. The spirits do not perceive the scoundrel as an aggressive exorcist or mundane intruder, but as a recognized visitor bearing ritual hospitality.
- Engrace the Hostile Dead:
- Cost: 1 Stress.
- Mechanics: The player describes their scoundrel executing a swift rhythmic stamp and striking the carved ivory medallion at their navel. When taking an action roll with Consort or Sway against a feral ghost, possessed vessel, or rabid guard beast, the Position is shifted from Desperate to Risky, and a successful roll immediately quells the entity’s violent impulses, rendering it inquisitive or peaceful for several minutes.
- The Ancestral Chorus:
- Cost: 2 Stress.
- Mechanics: During a score or within a downtime scene, the scoundrel initiates deep, multi-tonal throat singing accompanied by the clatter of the bone rattles. The scoundrel makes an Attune roll to summon the lingering memory-echo of a long-dead laborer, architect, or underworld predecessor tied to the current district or structure. On a 6 or Critical result, the spirit manifests clearly and provides actionable intelligence—such as secret vault pathways, hidden structural weaknesses, or the true identity of a target. On a 4/5, the intelligence is granted along with a complication: the rhythmic ringing of the bronze clappers reverberates through the lightning barrier, attracting the immediate suspicion of Spirit Wardens or nearby hollows.
- Armor Functionality:
- Special Drawbacks and Inherent Danger:
- Compromised Stealth: The scoundrel takes -1d to Prowl rolls when attempting to move silently through quiet locations, as the hanging crane bones and bronze clappers continuously chime against one another with every hurried step.
- Electroplasmic Magnet: When near an active lightning tower or unstable spirit well, the cincture vibrates violently, causing the scoundrel to stand out to nearby whisper-trackers and spirit-sniffing hounds.
Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition)
Cincture of the Ancestral Cadence
- Item Classification and Core Specifications:
- Item Type: Wondrous Item, waist slot.
- Item Rarity: Uncommon.
- Attunement Requirement: Requires attunement by a bard, cleric, druid, monk, or ranger.
- Base Defense: While wearing this belt and not wearing heavy armor, you gain a +1 bonus to Armor Class as the rhythmic energy and reinforced hide help turn aside incoming blows.
- Charges and Fuel Economy:
- Resource Pool: The cincture possesses 3 charges. It regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn as the embedded crystal draws ambient energy from the surrounding world.
- Catalytic Fragility: If you expend the last charge from the belt, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, the interior magic crystal shatters into nonmagical mineral dust; the belt immediately loses all active magical properties and functions solely as a nonmagical piece of clothing providing no AC bonus until an artisan replaces the stone.
- Passive Traits:
- Permafrost Stride: You ignore nonmagical difficult terrain composed of snow, ice, deep mud, or loose scree. In addition, you have advantage on ability checks and saving throws made to avoid falling prone or being forcefully moved across the ground.
- Harmonic Presence: You have proficiency in the Animal Handling skill. If you already have proficiency in this skill, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using it. Furthermore, you have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to interact with natural beasts, fey creatures, and non-hostile undead.
- Active Abilities:
- Shamanic Pacification (1 Charge):
- Action Economy: 1 Action.
- Execution: You strike the central ivory disc, sending forth an inaudible pulse of calming arcane thought toward a beast or monstrosity with an Intelligence of 3 or lower that you can see within 30 feet of you.
- Mechanical Effect: The target must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is affected as if by the calm emotions spell for 1 minute (concentration is not required). It loses all aggressive intent toward you and your allies, refusing to attack unless it or its companions take damage.
- Sense the Hidden Path (1 Charge):
- Action Economy: 1 Bonus Action.
- Mechanical Effect: For the next 10 minutes, you emit an aura of soft violet light in a 30-foot radius. Within this area, you automatically detect the location of hidden natural water sources, nonmagical traps, concealed tracks, and secret doors obscured by natural vegetation.
- Ancestral Chorus (2 Charges):
- Action Economy: 1 Action, requiring sustained vocal performance.
- Execution: You initiate a deep, ceremonial throat-song and rhythmic circular dance, causing the bronze leaves and crane bones to ring continuously.
- Mechanical Effect: You cast speak with dead (spell save DC 13) without requiring material components. Rather than speaking solely with physical corpses, this feature can target an unmarked burial site, a place where a sentient creature died within the past year, or an ancient campsite. A translucent ancestral spirit materializes above the soil to whisper its knowledge in response to up to three questions.
- Shamanic Pacification (1 Charge):
- Limitations:
- Stealth Disadvantage: Because the bronze pendants and bone tubes strike each other during movement, you have disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks that rely on moving quietly, unless you spend an action to bind the hanging thongs with cloth or leather wraps (which prevents the use of its passive AC bonus and active abilities while bound).
Knave (2nd Edition)
Engraced Girdle of Kholun
- Item Classification and Gear Logistics:
- Item Category: Worn Relic / Protective Apparel.
- Item Slots: Occupies 1 Item Slot (Waist).
- Armor Value: Provides +1 Armor Point to the wearer’s total Armor Defense rating, functioning alongside ordinary armor up to the standard carrying limits.
- Quality and Durability: Possesses 3 Quality points. If the wearer suffers a critical hit or direct sunder attempt, they may choose to sacrifice 1 Quality point from the girdle to absorb 5 points of incoming physical damage. At 0 Quality, the ivory disc splits and the cordage snaps, rendering the item nonfunctional until repaired by a leatherworker or bone carver during downtime.
- Passive Traits:
- Sure-Footed Stride: The wearer automatically passes any Agility or Dexterity saving throw made to keep their footing on slippery ice, wet rocks, greasy logs, or sinking mud. The referee does not call for rolls to navigate slick natural terrain at normal movement speed.
- Beast Rapport: Wild mundane animals will not attack the wearer unless the wearer attacks first, corners the animal, or approaches its young. The wearer can convey basic intentions (peace, hunger, danger) to natural beasts by rhythmically tapping the bone cylinders with their fingertips.
- Relic Powers and Daily Exploits:
- Pacifying Clatter (1/Day):
- Time: 1 Combat Round.
- Method: The wearer spends their entire round performing a rhythmic foot shuffle and clapping both hands against the central ivory disc.
- Effect: All wild beasts and mundane predators within near range (approximately 40 feet) must make a Wisdom save. Those that fail lose their aggressive intent and become completely docile for 1 exploration turn (10 minutes), standing in place or quietly wandering away. Hostility resumes immediately if they take damage.
- Ancestral Seance (1/Day):
- Time: 1 Exploration Turn (10 minutes).
- Method: The wearer builds a small fire, burns a pinch of dry herbs or tobacco, and continuously hums in a two-tone throat register while walking in a tight circle.
- Effect: The spirit of an ancient inhabitant or recently perished traveler rises from the smoke. The referee must answer two direct questions regarding the nearby wilderness, such as the location of fresh water, the quickest route through an environmental hazard, or the primary weakness of a regional monster.
- Pacifying Clatter (1/Day):
- Item Drawback:
- Constant Clatter: The girdle cannot be muffled without rendering its defensive properties inert. Any attempt to sneak or move silently while wearing the free-hanging girdle automatically fails or imposes a severe penalty on stealth-related checks at the referee’s discretion.
Fate Core and Fate Condensed
The Girdle of the Singing Tundra
- Core Aspect:
- Name: Harmonic Conduit of the Northern Ancestors
- Description: A ceremonial waist-girdle composed of vegetable-tanned reindeer leather, fossilized mammoth ivory,work-hardened bronze clappers, and crane bones. The item serves as a sacred bridge between the physical plane and the lingering spirits of the land, operating under the ancient philosophy of Engrace.
- Invocation and Compel Dynamics:
- Invoking the Aspect: A character may spend a Fate Point (or use a free invoke) to invoke this aspect when conducting diplomatic negotiations with nature spirits or beasts, seeking knowledge from departed ancestors, or attempting delicate balancing maneuvers across precarious physical terrain.
- Compelling the Aspect: The gamemaster may offer a Fate Point to compel this aspect when the loud, continuous chiming of the bronze and bone fringe alerts prowling predators, reveals the character’s hidden position to sentries, or draws the unwanted curiosity of volatile, wandering apparitions.
- Dedicated Stunts:
- Sure-Footed Cadence of the Permafrost:
- Mechanics: The kinetic balance provided by the hanging weights grounds the wearer against sudden movement hazards. The character gains a +2 bonus to Overcome actions using Athletics when crossing slick ice, deep snow, sucking bogs, or narrow mountain ledges. In addition, the character cannot be knocked off their feet by mundane environmental shifts.
- Shamanic Rapport of Engrace:
- Mechanics: The rhythmic presence of the belt projects hospitality and mutual respect toward non-human minds. The wearer can use Rapport or Empathy to interact with, create advantages against, or calm wild beasts, feral predators, and disembodied spirits without needing specialized magical stunts. Once per session, the player may take a +2 bonus or a free invocation on a Rapport roll when attempting to non-violently de-escalate a confrontation with a hostile creature or spirit.
- Pacifying Clapper Resonance:
- Mechanics: Once per scene, the character may spend a Fate Point and use an action to strike the central mammoth ivory plate in a measured cadence. The player rolls Rapport against the Will or Physique of a single predatory animal or spirit in the same zone. On a success, the character creates the situation aspect Pacified by the Rhythm on the target with one free invoke (or two free invokes on a style). The target ceases all hostile actions and will not attack unless it or its kin suffer physical harm.
- Ancestral Chorus Seance:
- Mechanics: By taking several minutes of uninterrupted downtime to perform throat-singing accompanied by the belt’s chiming fringe, the wearer may reach across the veil. The character spends a Fate Point and rolls Lore or Notice with a +2 bonus to commune with an echo of a deceased person tied to the local zone. On a success, the gamemaster provides two specific, truthful pieces of lore, topographical secrets, or tactical weaknesses concerning regional threats.
- Sure-Footed Cadence of the Permafrost:
- Mechanical Drawback:
- Acoustic Footprint: The free-hanging bone cylinders and cold-beaten bronze leaves chime with every stride. Any Overcome or Create an Advantage action using Stealth to move silently suffers a -2 penalty unless the character expends an action or preparation phase to bind the fringe tightly with cloth, an action that suppresses the protective stunts while bound.
Numenera & Cypher System
Harmonic Resonator of the Permafrost
- Artifact Classification and Specifications:
- Level: 3 (Determine random levels with 1d6 or assign as Level 3 for standard play).
- Form: A broad belt of thick biological hide reinforced with braided synthetic cordage, mounting an elliptical fossilized ivory boss and a dense lower fringe of resonant alloy leaves, avian bone tubes, and suspended river stones. At the core of the ivory boss sits an embedded translucent purple nodule that pulses with soft light.
- Depletion: 1 in 1d20 (check the depletion die only when triggering an active ability).
- Inherent Passive Benefits:
- Kinetic Equilibrium: The hanging weights and sub-vocal hum of the artifact act as an active gyroscopic stabilizer. The wearer gains an asset (reducing the difficulty of the task by one step) on all Speed defense and Speed-based balance rolls made to traverse treacherous surfaces, resist being knocked prone, or negotiate narrow ledges.
- Kinetic Deflection Armor: The dense materials and subtle force-weave provide +1 to Armor against physical attacks directed at the wearer’s torso.
- Empathic Receptive Field: The wearer gains an asset on all Intellect interaction rolls involving non-human entities, wild creatures, and disembodied datasphere spirits or cognitive apparitions.
- Active Functions:
- Calming Pulse of the Wild:
- Action: One action.
- Effect: The wearer strikes the ivory boss in a deliberate triple-meter, projecting an acoustic and psychic dampening wave up to short range (50 feet). One beast, biological predator, or non-sentient entity of Level 3 or lower immediately loses all aggressive focus and becomes completely docile for ten minutes, standing motionless or wandering away peacefully.
- Higher-Level Targets: To affect a target of Level 4 or higher, the user must apply Effort from their Intellect Pool; each level of Effort applied increases the maximum target level by 1. Roll for Depletion upon each activation.
- Topographical Weave Ping:
- Action: One action.
- Effect: Channelling energy into the purple nodule releases an invisible sensor pulse throughout an immediate radius (within short range). For ten minutes, the user senses the precise location of hidden water tables, structural cavern weaknesses, concealed physical snares, and animal pathways. Roll for Depletion upon activation.
- Seance of the Datasphere Remnant:
- Action: Ten minutes of sustained rhythmic movement and vocal chanting.
- Effect: The device resonates with residual mental imprints left in the surrounding environment. An apparition of a deceased being who perished within the area materializes as an ultraviolet projection. The apparition answers up to three concise questions regarding local terrain, dangerous inhabitants, or historical structures before dissipating. Roll for Depletion upon completion of the ritual.
- Calming Pulse of the Wild:
- Inherent Complication and Cypher Intrusions:
- Audible Signature: The fringe generates an inescapable chiming sound during standard and hasty movement. All tasks attempted to sneak, remain unseen, or surprise opponents have their difficulty increased by one step.
- Potential GM Intrusion: A sudden resonant surge causes the purple nodule to flare brightly, drawing the aggressive attention of electroplasmic entities, phase-shifting predators, or mechanical automatons tuned to arcane frequencies.

A translucent ancestral manifestation rises from the earth and speaks in low murmurs, answering up to three questions truthfully based on its knowledge in life.
- Pacify Beast (One-Action):
- Structural Drawback:
- Acoustic Revealing: The swinging bronze leaves and bone tubes emit an inescapable metallic and hollow rattle during movement. You take a -2 item penalty to Stealth checks to Sneak unless you spend 1 minute tying down the fringe with cords (which suspends all item bonuses and active abilities while bound).

- Operational Method: The character strikes the medallion in a deliberate triple-step rhythm while channeling a silent pulse of mana into an aggressive animal, guard hound, or low-intellect awakened critter within 10 meters.
- Resolution: The magician rolls Magic + Sorcery (or Animal Handling) opposed by the creature’s Willpower + Intuition. If the caster achieves net hits, the beast loses its immediate aggressive impetus for a number of combat rounds equal to the net hits, refusing to attack unless it suffers physical or stun damage.
- Communion with the Local Shamanic Ancestor:
- Action Economy: Extended Ritual requiring 10 continuous minutes of uninterrupted throat-singing and circular dance movement.
- Operational Method: The caster projects astral resonance into the local astral background, seeking the lingering psychic imprint of a deceased soul or long-dead tribal spirit associated with the territory.
- Resolution: The caster rolls Conjuring + Magic against a threshold of 3. On a successful test, the lingering spiritual echo manifests astrally (and in low murmurs audible to the caster), providing up to two direct, truthful answers regarding localized terrain hazards, hidden entryways, or the astral signatures of nearby astral entities.
- Topographical Astral Ping:
- Action Economy: Major Action.
- Operational Method: The caster expends personal mana through the focus to pulse the physical ground. For 5 minutes, the caster can detect clean groundwater, subterranean structural voids, and hidden mechanical snares within a 15-meter radius without requiring full astral projection.
- Beast Pacification Pulse:
- Complications, Burnout, and Operational Penalties:
- Acoustic Signature and Stealth Impairment: The suspended bone tubes and bronze clappers chime audibly with every physical movement. Any Stealth test attempted to move silently suffers an automatic -2 dice pool penalty unless the thongs are manually bound with heavy tape or cloth (which deactivates the focus’s Defense Rating bonus and active abilities while muffled).
- Astral Visibility: The focus projects a persistent, visible pale-violet astral signature that makes the wearer easily spotted by astral patrols, spirits, and dual-natured paracritters via Astral Perception.
- Focus Burnout: If the focus is subjected to a targeted physical or astral attack that penetrates the wearer’s defenses, or if the user takes severe drain damage equal to or exceeding their Essence, roll 1d6. On a result of 1, the quartz core fractures, deactivating all magical enhancements until repaired by an artisan.
Starfinder (Second Edition)
Chime-Girdle of the Deep Tundra

- Item Traits: Uncommon, Hybrid, Magical, Primal.
- Price: 1,250 Credits.
- Bulk: Light (L).
- Item Usage: Worn, waist slot (belt).
- Hardness and Durability: Hardness 5, Hit Points 20, Broken Threshold (BT) 10.
- Structural Composition: Cured xenomorphic pelt, fossilized carbon-dense ivory plate with micro-inscribed circuitry, twelve work-hardened phosphor-bronze acoustic leaves, avian bone chimes, and a stabilized tier 1 solarian-adjacent violet crystal battery.
- Constant Passive Modifications:
- Sure-Footed Stabilization: The kinetic counterweights and harmonic vibrations integrated into the belt actively stabilize the wearer’s center of gravity. The wearer gains a +1 item bonus to Reflex saving throws against forced movement, gravity distortions, and effects that would inflict the Prone condition.
- Environmental Navigation: You ignore non-magical difficult terrain caused by snow, subarctic ice sheets, bog mud, and loose planetary gravel.
- Xenofaunal Rapport: The hybrid frequencies emitted by the girdle translate basic non-verbal intentions into instinctual harmonic pulses. You gain a +1 item bonus to Nature and Diplomacy checks when making an impression upon, calming, or negotiating with planetary fauna, non-sapient alien beasts, and spiritual planetary echoes.
- Active Hybrid Powers:
- Pacify Alien Beast (Single Action):
- Traits: Concentrate, Hybrid, Mental, Primal.
- Frequency: Once per hour.
- Operational Method: You strike the central micro-circuit ivory plate with the palm of your hand, directing an inaudible, psychically damped harmonic wave at a biological alien beast within 30 feet.
- Resolution: The target must roll a DC 19 Will saving throw.
- Critical Success: The target resists completely and gains immunity to this effect for 24 hours.
- Success: The creature hesitates in its movement, becoming Stunned 1 as its territorial aggression is interrupted.
- Failure: The creature becomes indifferent to your presence for 1 minute, ceasing all hostile attacks unless it or its immediate brood suffer damage.
- Critical Failure: As failure, but the duration extends to 10 minutes, and the creature regards you as an unthreatening neutral entity.
- Terrain Acoustic Ping (Two Actions):
- Traits: Concentrate, Manipulate, Sensory.
- Frequency: Twice per day.
- Operational Method: Performing a three-beat rhythmic heel shuffle sends a low-frequency ground-sonar wave out in a 30-foot emanation.
- Resolution: For 10 minutes, you gain an imprecise acoustic tremorsense out to 30 feet, allowing you to identify underground water lines, hollow rock formations, unshielded physical pit traps, and cloaked predators moving upon the ground.
- Ancestral Datasphere Communion (Exploration Activity, 10 Minutes):
- Traits: Auditory, Concentrate, Exploration, Primal.
- Frequency: Once per day.
- Operational Method: The wearer engages in an unbroken throat-singing seance, harmonizing their breath with the chiming of the bronze leaves to bridge the barrier between physical space and residual planetary memory banks.
- Resolution: You summon the shimmering translucent manifestation of a creature or colonist who died within 1 mile of your position. The manifestation remains for 5 minutes and answers up to three specific inquiries concerning local topography, natural hazards, or the identity of predatory species active in the sector.
- Pacify Alien Beast (Single Action):
- Environmental and System Drawbacks:
- Audible Chime Profile: The hanging components produce a constant metallic and hollow rattle during movement. You take a -2 item penalty on Stealth checks to Sneak unless you spend 1 minute lashing the chimes tightly to your waist with cordage (which suspends all item bonuses and activation features while bound).
- Fragility Under Kinetic Strain: If the wearer suffers a critical hit from an explosive or bludgeoning attack, they must roll a DC 15 flat check. On a failure, the interior crystal battery suffers internal fracture, causing the item to gain the Broken condition until repaired during downtime using the Crafting skill.
Mongoose Traveller (Second Edition)
Psionic Resonance Cincture of the Outrim Nomads
- Technical Specifications and Logistics:
- Equipment Classification: Rare Xenological / Psionic Relic (Torso/Waist accessory).
- Technological Level (TL): TL 2 construction methods housing a TL 14 resonant psi-crystal substrate.
- Mass: 1.5 kilograms.
- Base Purchase Cost: Cr. 35,000 (Black market archaeotech value; legitimate trade is heavily restricted by Imperial authorities).
- Armor Profile: Provides Armor +1 against primitive physical slashing and piercing melee attacks targeting the abdomen; offers zero protection against laser, plasma, or high-velocity firearm ballistics.
- Inherent Passive Adjustments:
- Gyroscopic Kinetic Stability: The weighted fringe of river stones and bone tubes provides an unconscious physical counter-weight to bodily shifts. The wearer receives a DM+1 bonus to all Athletics (dexterity) checks made to navigate frozen surfaces, steep scree, mud plains, or low-gravity terrain without stumbling or suffering physical fatigue.
- Psitech Receptive Matrix: If the wearer possesses an active Psionic Strength Index (PSI) score, the cincture acts as a passive psi-insulator, reducing the PSI cost of telepathic or awareness powers that involve non-human fauna by 1 point (to a minimum of 1).
- Active Device Capabilities:
- Calming of the Wild Beast:
- Psionic or Technical Requirement: Expends 1 point of temporary PSI (or requires an Average [8+] Animals [handling] check if operated by a non-psionic character who strikes the ivory plate in rhythm).
- Activation Time: 1 combat minor action.
- Operational Effect: The device releases an ultrasonic acoustic wave combined with a dampening empathic broadcast targeting one biological animal or carnivore within 15 meters.
- Resolution: The target creature must make an opposed check against the user’s Animals (handling) or Telepathy check. If the operator succeeds, the animal ceases all aggressive movement and enters a passive resting state for 2d6 minutes, refusing to engage in combat unless physically attacked.
- Psychometric Sub-Surface Sweep:
- Psionic or Technical Requirement: Expends 2 points of PSI (or requires a successful Recon check).
- Activation Time: 1 significant action.
- Operational Effect: Emits an expanding low-frequency vibration that maps the physical terrain within 20 meters. The user instinctively senses the depth and stability of surrounding ice crusts, the presence of subterranean caverns, and the precise vector of nearby burrowing organisms.
- Ancestral Memory Communion:
- Psionic Requirement: Usable only by a character with an active PSI rating; requires expending 3 points of PSI and 10 minutes of uninterrupted throat-singing and rhythmic stepping.
- Operational Effect: The crystal core interfaces with the residual cognitive memory fields left in the environment by a sapient individual who died in the vicinity. The user makes an Average (8+) Clairvoyance or Telepathy check. Success allows the character to experience an audiovisual memory-echo from the deceased entity, obtaining critical navigational clues, hazards to avoid, or the location of hidden subterranean installations.
- Calming of the Wild Beast:
- System Complications and Physical Drawbacks:
- Inescapable Acoustic Footprint: The free-hanging bone cylinders and bronze pendants clatter with every physical step. The wearer suffers an automatic DM-2 penalty to all Stealth checks involving silent movement.
- Sensor Traceability: The ambient psi-resonance emitted by the crystal can be detected by specialized Imperial sensor drones, psionic detection arrays, and hostile psionic lifeforms at up to triple the normal detection range.
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (Fourth Edition)
The Norscan Shaman’s Engraced Girdle

- Beast Harmony: The wearer gains a +1 SL bonus on all Charm Animal and Animal Training tests. Mundane wild animals and non-Chaos beasts will not attack the wearer unless provoked, cornered, or defending their young.
- Shamanic Composure: The steady, rhythmic clicking of the bone chimes provides an auditory meditation focus, granting the wearer a +10% bonus to Cool tests made to resist the Fear or Intimidate conditions when confronting wilderness monstrosities or spirits.
- Active Rites and Spells:
- Pacifying Clapper Cadence:
- Action Economy: 1 Action.
- Operational Method: The character stamps their foot and strikes the ivory medallion with the palm of their hand, sending a wave of calming Ghur energy toward an aggressive beast or monstrous hound within 12 yards.
- Resolution: The character engages in an Opposed Charm Animal / Willpower test against the target beast. On a success, the beast gains the Pacified condition (it drops out of combat order, takes no aggressive actions, and will not attack for a number of rounds equal to the character’s Willpower Bonus, provided it is not attacked or damaged).
- The Scent of Water and Stone:
- Action Economy: 1 Action.
- Operational Method: The wearer taps the bronze clappers in a measured triple-cadence, releasing an imperceptible wave through the earth.
- Resolution: For the next hour, the character gains an instinctive sense of hidden groundwater, edible tundra mosses, concealed hunting pits, and dangerous unstable bog ground within 20 yards, adding +2 SL to Outdoor Survival tests.
- Seance of the Tundra Ancestor:
- Action Economy: Extended Ritual requiring 10 uninterrupted minutes of circular dancing and throat-singing.
- Operational Method: The character sings the ancient hospitality chants to draw forth the shade of a departed person whose remains lie within the local region.
- Resolution: The character makes a Channelling (Ghur or Spirit) test against an Average (+20) difficulty. On a success, a translucent spirit emerges from the mist and answers up to three specific questions concerning regional landmarks, territorial beast dens, or recent skirmishes that occurred in the vicinity.
- Pacifying Clapper Cadence:
- Inherent Weaknesses and Complications:
- Acoustic Revealing: The bone tubes and bronze clappers cannot be completely silenced while the item is functional. The character suffers a -20% penalty to all Stealth (Rural or Urban) tests made to move silently.
- Attunement Disruption: If the girdle takes 3 points of damage from a single critical strike targeting the abdomen, the ivory plate cracks and the quartz catalyst discharges violently, inflicting 1 Wound directly to the wearer (ignoring Toughness) and rendering all magical qualities nonfunctional until repaired by an artisan.
