Lore: In the high-altitude courtrooms and glass-domed salons of Saṃsāra, where social standing is as vital as oxygen, Curse 902 was born from the bitter envy of a disgraced artisan. This gear manifests as a polished, silver-framed monocle or a delicate filigree veil that sits over one eye. To the wearer, the world remains clear, but the magic within ensures that others cannot help but stare. It turns the wearer into a “Social Gravity Well.” While the attention feels like “Admiration,” it is a parasitic hex; the more onlookers gaze in awe, the more the wearer’s own ego becomes bloated and fragile, literally tethering their physical well-being to the approval of the crowd.
Stats
- Tier: 1
- Rarity: Common
- Gear Slot: Head/Eye (Monocle or Eye-Veil)
- Durability: 10 (Delicate silver and enchanted glass)
- Weight: 0.1 lbs
Skills Gained
- Expertise (Performance): You naturally command the stage, knowing exactly how to tilt your head and catch the light to maximize your allure.
- Expertise (Distraction): You have mastered the art of being the center of attention, making it easy for your allies to move unnoticed while all eyes are on you.
Passive Magics
- The Unavoidable Gaze: Any sentient creature within 30 feet that looks in your general direction must succeed on a minor Willpower check or have their eyes “snagged” by your presence. They aren’t charmed, but they find it difficult to look away, granting you a +1 bonus to Charisma-based social checks.
- The Narcissist’s Vitality: While at least three people are actively observing you with “Admiration” (or intense interest), you gain a +1 bonus to your AC as your confidence creates a faint, shimmering kinetic barrier of pure vanity.
Activated Magics
- Aura of Adoration (Cost: 4 Mana): You tap the frame of the eye-piece. For 5 minutes, your voice carries a harmonic frequency that makes your words sound profoundly wise or beautiful. Enemies who hear you must spend an extra action if they wish to move away from you, as the “Admiration” creates a psychic weight.
- The Shattered Pedestal (Cost: 6 Mana): As a reaction to being hit, you release the stored “Admiration” in a blinding flash of silver light. The attacker is Blind for one round, and you may immediately move 10 feet as you “slip out of their gaze.”

In the high-altitude glass cities and competitive social hubs of Saṃsāra, Curse 902 of the Covetous Eye is viewed as a “Social Performance Enhancer.” It is found in locales where one’s public image is considered a tangible asset that can be traded, polished, or stolen.
The Gilded Optician (High-Society Wards)
- Environment: A boutique of blinding white marble and velvet, where “Visual Stylists” wear silk gloves to handle inventory. The air smells of expensive perfumes and ozone.
- How it is Bought: Sold to ambitious debutantes, politicians, and socialites. The shop markets it as a “Charisma Corrective,” a way to ensure that even a boring speaker can hold a room’s attention. It is often presented as a solution for those who feel “invisible” in the upper echelons.
- How it is Sold: These shops only buy back items in pristine condition. They pay a premium if the monocle has a history of being worn during a significant historical event, as “Residual Admiration” is believed to season the glass.
- Cost: 95 to 110 Gold Pieces. (Can be leased for 5 Gold per night for gala events).
The Vanity Smuggler (Theater Districts & Slums)
- Environment: A backroom behind a stage or a tent in a traveling circus. The shop is filled with cracked mirrors and discarded costumes. The merchant is often an “Ego-Leech” who smells of stale wine and stage makeup.
- How it is Bought: Sold to aging performers or street-con artists who need a “Glow Up” to survive. The merchant warns that the item is a “Curse,” but pitches the “Admiration” as a drug that keeps the audience from noticing the wearer’s flaws.
- How it is Sold: Traded for “Social Favors” or gossip. If the user can prove they used the item to successfully distract a target for a heist, the smuggler might offer a discount on future gear.
- Cost: 15 to 25 Gold Pieces + A Written Secret.
The Echo-Chamber (Scholarly & Occult Wards)
- Environment: A quiet, dusty shop filled with “Sensory Jars” and books on mimetic magic. The merchant is an “Attention-Economist” who studies how gazes affect the soul.
- How it is Bought: Sold as a “Research Tool” for those studying the psychology of crowds. It is marketed as an “Observation Filter,” allowing the wearer to physically see the “threads” of human attention.
- How it is Sold: The shop pays the user for the “Data of the Eye”—the memories stored in the lens of those who looked into it. The more unique the admirers (royalty, monsters, or saints), the higher the payout.
- Cost: 60 Gold Pieces.
The Pawn of the Fallen Star (Industrial/Depths)
- Environment: A grim stall where fallen aristocrats sell their last remaining finery for bread. The monocle sits in a pile of rusted cutlery and tarnished medals.
- How it is Bought: Usually bought by “Isekai” travelers or low-tier adventurers who want a cheap way to bypass guards. The merchant treats it as a piece of “shiny junk” that might work if you polish it enough.
- How it is Sold: Often traded for food or safe passage. The magic is usually dormant here because no one in the vicinity has the “will to admire.”
- Cost: 800 Silver Pieces.
Roleplaying with Curse 902 of the Covetous Eye requires a balance of supreme confidence and a desperate need for validation. Whether you are using it to protect your allies or to social-engineer a victory, your character becomes the absolute focal point of the narrative.
Defensive Roleplay: The Kinetic Narcissist
In defense, the monocle functions as a “Social Tanking” tool. You aren’t blocking with a shield; you are blocking with the sheer impossibility of anyone wanting to see you harmed.
- The Inviolable Icon: When an enemy prepares a strike, roleplay the Narcissist’s Vitality. Narrate how you don’t even flinch or raise a hand. Instead, you simply strike a pose that highlights your profile. Describe the attacker’s hesitation—a momentary “snag” in their movement as they subconsciously worry about damaging something so beautiful. The +1 AC is narrated as a shimmering barrier of pure ego that deflects the blade.
- The Shattered Pedestal Escape: Use this activation when you are cornered. Roleplay the “Explosion of Envy.” As you are hit, narrate the silver filigree around your eye glowing white-hot before releasing a strobe of light. Describe how you move away while the attacker is still blinking, whispering, “You were never worthy of the view.”
- Gaze-Shielding Allies: In a group setting, roleplay your character as a “Human Flare.” While your allies sneak or recover, you narrate your character performing an “outrageous” social act—spilling a drink with grace, laughing loudly, or criticizing the decor. You describe how the guards’ attention is physically “dragged” toward you, leaving your companions in a blind spot of total neglect.
Offensive Roleplay: The Social Gravity Well
Offensively, the item is used to lock enemies into place and break their concentration by forcing them to participate in your “Admiration.”
- The Gaze-Lock Standoff: Use The Unavoidable Gaze to prevent an enemy from retreating or calling for help. Narrate how you fix them with your iridescent eye, making it impossible for them to look toward the door or their comrades. You describe their struggle to alert others as their brain prioritizes “watching” you over “acting” against you.
- Aura of Adoration (Commanding Presence): When you activate this, roleplay the “Harmonic Command.” Narrate how your voice begins to vibrate with an unnatural richness. You don’t just ask a guard to move; you narrate it as a “Royal Decree.” Describe the psychic weight pressing on the enemy’s feet—every step they take away from you feels like they are leaving the only source of light in a dark room.
- Identifying Weakness: Roleplay your Expertise (Performance) by noticing who isn’t looking. Narrate how you use the “Silver Threads” to find the one person in the room with the strongest will—the one who is trying to ignore you. By identifying this person, you pinpoint the most dangerous threat in a crowd before the fight even begins.
Environmental Roleplay Nuances
- In the Grand Ballroom (Elite Social): Roleplay the “Parasitic Aristocrat.” You move through the crowd “feeding” on the gasps and whispers. Narrate the sensation of the Ego-Pulse as a warm tide that makes you feel invincible. If someone ignores you, roleplay a sudden, sharp spike of irritability or a visible “shiver” of self-doubt.
- In the Steam-Choked Slums (Industrial): Here, the monocle is an anomaly. Roleplay the “Fallen Star.” You move through the grime like a diamond in a coal pile. Narrate how the weary laborers stop their work just to stare at you, their dirty faces illuminated by the iridescent glow of your monocle. Use this distraction to allow your allies to sabotage the machinery behind you.
- In a Tense Negotiation (Political): Roleplay the “Inescapable Truth.” While your opponent tries to argue facts, you narrate how you lean in, the golden tint of your monocle making your eyes look like burning embers. You describe how they lose their train of thought, mesmerized by the “Performance” of your speech rather than the content of your demands.

Perception of Activation:
- User’s Perspective
- Sight: The world through the monocle lens shifts into a high-contrast, golden-hour warmth. You see physical “Thread-Lines of Envy” — thin, shimmering silver filaments that stretch from the pupils of onlookers and hook into your own skin.
- Sound: Ambient environmental noise (wind, distant machinery, chatter) is filtered out, replaced by a soft, rhythmic orchestral swell that rises and falls with your movements. Your own voice sounds resonant and perfectly pitched, as if speaking into a professional studio microphone.
- Touch: A sensation of pleasant, static electricity dances across your cheeks and brow. Your clothing feels lighter and more expensive against your skin, and you feel a “Spotlight-Warmth” radiating from above, even in windowless rooms.
- Extra-Sensory (Ego-Satiety): You feel a “fullness” in your solar plexus, similar to the satisfaction after a gourmet meal, which grows with every additional person who locks eyes with you.
- Extra-Sensory (Gaze-Location): Even with your eyes closed, you can feel the precise vector of every gaze directed at you. It feels like small, magnetic tugs on your consciousness, allowing you to “see” the crowd without looking.
- Extra-Sensory (Pulse of Approval): You perceive the heartbeat of the crowd as a collective vibration in your feet. A faster collective pulse indicates rising “Admiration,” while a slowing rhythm feels like a cold draft.
- Observer’s Perspective
- Sight: The wearer’s features appear unnaturally sharp and symmetrical. The eye behind the monocle seems to expand slightly, swirling with a hypnotic, peacock-blue iridescence that is impossible to ignore.
- Sound: The wearer’s voice gains an “Authority-Hum,” a secondary harmonic frequency that makes even their mundane comments sound like profound revelations.
- Positives
- Total Presence: You effectively become the “Main Character” of any scene, making it nearly impossible for others to ignore you or focus on your allies.
- Psychic Fortitude: The massive ego-boost makes the user completely immune to psychological “Fear” or “Intimidation” effects; it is impossible to feel inferior when you are this adored.
- Social Kinetic Barrier: The subconscious desire of the crowd to see you remain “Perfect” creates a minor physical repulsion field, making you harder to hit in combat.
- Negatives
- Hyper-Vulnerability to Rejection: If an onlooker expresses genuine disgust or mockery, the user experiences a “Psychic Lash”—a sharp, stinging pain in the eye that can cause temporary disorientation.
- Compulsive Exhibitionism: The user may find it difficult to stop performing, even when silence is required, as the lack of “Admiration” feels like a physical suffocation.
- Stealth-Nullification: You cannot dim your presence. You glow in the dark of both the physical and social worlds, making you a permanent target.
The Grinding of the Gilded Narcissus:
Materials Needed
- A Pure Silver Monocle Frame: Must be salvaged from the estate of a noble who died while looking into a mirror.
- A Lens of “Observed” Glass: Clear glass that has been positioned in the center of a grand theater or ballroom for at least one full season, “drinking” the collective gaze of thousands.
- Peacock Ore (Bornite): Crushed into a fine iridescent powder to coat the interior rim, providing the peacock-sheen effect.
- A Strands of “Social Gravity”: A physicalized thread of silver silk, soaked in the champagne from a royal coronation.
- Vial of Concentrated Envy: Collected from the tears of a second-place finisher in a high-stakes competition.
- The Reflection of a Star: Water collected from a still pool on a cloudless night, used to quench the glass during the tempering phase.
Tools Required
- Jeweler’s Loupe of the Vain: To ensure the filigree is perfectly symmetrical; any flaw will cause the “Admiration” to leak.
- Silver-Smithing Hammer: A small, balanced tool for tapping the silver into delicate, “snagging” patterns.
- A Polishing Wheel of Velvet: To buff the lens until it creates a minor “light-sink” effect.
- An Indigo Hearth: A flame fed by dried lavender and expensive incense to maintain a low, “socially-warm” temperature.
Skill Requirements
- Glamour-Weaving (Tier 1): The ability to bind social concepts (like beauty or fame) into inanimate objects.
- Precision Lapidary: Proficiency in cutting glass to a specific curvature that bends light—and attention—toward the wearer.
- Ego-Tuning: The crafter must be able to “feel” the resonance of the glass to ensure it vibrates at a frequency that matches human desire.
Crafting Steps
- The Bath of Envy: Submerge the “Observed” glass lens in the vial of Concentrated Envy for 24 hours. The glass must turn slightly iridescent, indicating it is hungry for attention.
- The Filigree Snare: Hammer the silver frame into a series of interlocking “Eye-Runes.” These runes must be shaped like hooks to symbolize the Unavoidable Gaze.
- The Ore Coating: Apply the crushed Peacock Ore to the interior rim using the silver silk threads. This creates the “Peacock-Pulse” that characterizes the Curse 902.
- The Tempering of Vanity: Heat the frame in the Indigo Hearth until it glows a soft violet. Quench it instantly in the “Star-Reflection” water while reciting the names of the most famous beauties in Saṃsāra’s history.
- The Lens Seating: Press the lens into the silver frame. If the seating is perfect, the glass should hum with a melodic, orchestral tone, signaling the activation of the Aura of Adoration.
- The Final Polish: Use the velvet wheel to buff the lens until you can see your own reflection perfectly, but the reflection seems “better” than the original. The first person to see their reflection in the finished monocle becomes the “Template” for the Glamour-Blight.
First Mirror and Hunger of Golden Eye
In the “Eon-of-Unbroken-Light,” when the stars of Saṃsāra were yet “Whispers-of-the-Formless” and the sun was a “Burning-Maid” who loved her own reflection, there lived a Prince named Lysander-of-the-Many-Gifts. Lysander was born with a face so unremarkable that even his own mother would forget his name while looking at him, and his shadow was more memorable than his skin.
The translation, carved into the “Crystal-Rib-of-a-Drowned-Seraph” and guarded in the “Vault-of-Hidden-Faces,” tells of Lysander’s trek to the Well-of-Endless-Awe. There, the “Mistress-of-Glamour” sat, braiding the “Light-of-Falling-Moons.” Lysander did not beg for strength or wisdom; he begged for the “Weight-of-the-World’s-Eye.” He wished to be the “Sun-at-Midnight,” around which all souls must rotate.
The Mistress took a sliver of the “First-Mirror”—which had cracked when the First God looked upon his own flaws—and framed it in the “Silver-of-Stolen-Promises.” She gave him Curse 902 and warned, “You shall be the feast of every eye, but you shall never again know the peace of the unseen. To be adored is to be owned by the ones who look.”
The story tells of Lysander’s return to the Diamond-City. As he stepped through the gates, the “Threads-of-Attention” snapped taut. The baker dropped his flour; the soldier lowered his spear; the mourning widow forgot her grief. All were snagged by the “Peacock-Pulse” of the Prince’s eye. He walked through the streets not as a man, but as a “Luminous-Void” that drank the consciousness of the city.
However, the “Parasitic-Charm” grew greedy. The translation reveals that Lysander’s own soul began to “Thin” like beaten silver. Because he was only “Real” when being watched, he could no longer sleep, for in the darkness of the closed eye, he felt himself “Flicker-and-Fade.” He became a prisoner of the Shattered-Pedestal, forced to dance and speak for eternity to keep the “Gaze-of-the-Multitude” from turning away. When the last person in his kingdom died of exhaustion from staring, Lysander simply “Vanished-into-the-Air,” for there was no one left to “Observe” his existence.
The ancient script, shimmering like “Oil-on-Still-Water,” ends: “The eye remains, seeking a new face to haunt. It offers the world’s love, but it demands your own soul as the price of the ticket. He who wears the silver eye is the most famous man in the world, and the only one who is truly alone.”
Moral of the Story: To live solely for the Admiration of others is to become a “Ghost-of-the-Gaze”; for when the audience departs, the “Self” is found to be a house with no one inside.
