Mimic 318 of the Myopic Starlight Diadem

From: Seraphic Circlet

Lore

  • Commissioned by a rogue cadre of mist-weavers from the Western Archipelago, this delicate silver band was crafted to flawlessly emulate the appearance, weight, and holy celestial aura of a revered Seraphian Seraphic Circlet.
  • While the genuine circlet sharpens mental clarity and radiates blinding celestial luminescence, this deceptive diadem weaponizes optical distortion, refraction, and ocular blurring. It bends light waves around the wearer’s perimeter to smudge lines of sight, distort depth perception, and drown hostile visual senses in an unfocused, watery haze.
  • Encapsulated within the central faux-celestial sapphire is Kasumi, a bashful, observant soul harvested from an Ethereal Shroudling native to the foggy low-valleys. Kasumi is exceedingly wary of direct gazes and bright scrutiny.
  • Once attuned, Kasumi quietly speaks into the wielder’s mind through the Guide Manager, calculating exact visual blind spots, identifying targets struggling with depth perception, and whispering advice on how to slip through distorted focal fields unseen.

Passive Magic

  • Flawless Seraphic Guise: Detect magic, alignment divinations, and Mind’s Eye scans perceive the diadem strictly as an authentic, blessed Seraphic Circlet. Its true focus-warping nature remains fully hidden until attuned.
  • Refractive Shroud (Blurry Perimeter): Ambient light constantly warps and bends around the wearer within a 5-foot halo. All ranged and melee attack rolls made against the wearer suffer a -2 penalty (or disadvantage) unless the attacker relies entirely on non-visual senses, as the wearer’s silhouette appears smeared, doubled, and out of focus.
  • Shrewd Astigmatic Advisor (Sentience): Kasumi tracks the gaze vectors of all creatures in the area, granting the wearer a +2 bonus to Stealth, Deception, and Insight checks when navigating crowds or avoiding visual surveillance.

Activable Magic

  • Myopic Flash (Ocular Blurring): As an action, the user taps the central gem, releasing an expanding ripple of soft, shimmering distortion across a 20-foot radius. All hostile creatures within the area must succeed on a Constitution or Willpower saving throw (DC based on Tier 2 potency) or suffer severe blurry vision for 1 minute. Affected targets treat all creatures and objects beyond 5 feet as heavily obscured, take a -4 penalty to attack rolls and visual Perception checks, and treat all movement across terrain as difficult terrain due to ruined depth perception (usable twice per day).
  • Aberrant Focal Shift: As a bonus action or reaction when targeted by an attack or targeted spell, the user refracts their visual projection 10 feet to the left or right for 2 rounds. The initial incoming attack automatically misses as it strikes the blurry, displaced mirage, while the user gains the benefits of soft concealment until the start of their next turn (usable 3 times per day).

Acquisition and Commerce of the Myopic Starlight Diadem

  • Celestial Emporiums and High-Sanctity Reliquaries:
    • Located within the sacred temple districts, marble plazas, and spiritual shopping arcades of the 73 island capitals.
    • These pristine shops cater to clerics, paladins, and high-ranking envoys, staffed by ordained appraisers and ward-keepers who thoroughly scan religious regalia for holy provenance.
    • Purchasing cost: Because the diadem flawlessly registers as a consecrated Seraphic Circlet, it is priced at the standard market rate of 500 to 750 Gold Sovereigns.
    • Selling to shopkeeper: An emporium curator will examine the silverwork and, seeing the expected gentle celestial pulse, offer a legitimate trade buyout of 250 to 300 Gold Sovereigns for the temple’s diplomatic stores.
  • Archipelago Smuggler Coves and Black-Market Arcane Bazaars:
    • Tucked into fog-draped sea caves, low-tide docks, and underground fencing dens that cater to mist-weavers, spies, and privateers.
    • These merchants specialize in visual trickery, misdirection tools, and illicit combat enchantments meant to break lines of sight.
    • Purchasing cost: If the fence believes it is an authentic Seraphian holy relic, they will sell it as high-value diplomatic contraband for 400 Gold Sovereigns. If an astute rogue broker recognizes its true nature as an elevated optical distortion tool, the price jumps to 1,200 to 1,500 Silver Talents / Coin.
    • Selling to shopkeeper: A smuggler fence offers 150 to 200 Gold Sovereigns under the assumption it is a holy trinket, or up to 600 Gold Equivalents if they cater to assassins seeking a visual-smearing tool.
  • Pawnshops, Curio Dens, and Itinerant Roadside Traders:
    • Found along dusty harbor roads, frontier trade outposts, and cluttered second-hand stalls in mid-tier market towns.
    • Run by weary pawnbrokers, tinkers, and scavengers who rely on basic intuition rather than master-level magical scrutiny.
    • Purchasing cost: Often sold as an unauthenticated piece of pretty silver costume jewelry or a worn noble’s circlet, priced cheaply at 50 to 150 Silver Pieces to a lucky buyer who spots it in a display tray.
    • Selling to shopkeeper: A local pawnbroker will pay purely for the weight of the silver band and the small gem, offering a meager 20 to 30 Silver Pieces.

Tactical and Environmental Applications of the Myopic Starlight Diadem

  • Fog-Draped Harbor Docks, Coastal Swamps, and Low-Tide Channels:
    • Defensive Applications: When coastal patrols or harbor sentries attempt to corner the wearer along misty wharves, the diadem blends its refractive aura directly with ambient sea fog. The wearer’s silhouette smears across several yards of wet air, turning crossbow volleys into wild misses. Kasumi whispers precisely where lanterns are reflecting off the mist, guiding the wearer through optical blind spots between searchlight beams.
    • Offensive Applications: Boarding a hostile smuggler sloop, the user triggers the Myopic Flash. The crew’s vision instantly blurs into a smeared, watery soup, stripping them of depth perception. Sailors lunge blindly at phantom targets, stumble over deck rigging, and tumble into open cargo hatches or straight into the sea, allowing allied raiders to sweep the deck uncontested.
  • Crowded Urban Plazas, Imperial Courts, and Grand Ballrooms:
    • Defensive Applications: When assassins strike during a diplomatic gala, the wearer taps the diadem’s Aberrant Focal Shift. The incoming poisoned dagger strikes a shimmering, out-of-focus mirage displaced ten feet to the side, while the true wearer slips silently behind marble pillars, masked by the continuous optical smudge.
    • Offensive Applications: In high-stakes espionage or diplomatic disputes, the user subtle-activates the ocular distortion against a single target across the banquet table. The rival noble or judge begins blinking frantically as paperwork, ledgers, and faces turn into illegible, blurry smudges, inducing severe optical strain, disorientation, and vulnerability to fast-talking diplomatic manipulation.
  • Sunlit Deserts, Salt Flats, and Arid Savannas:
    • Defensive Applications: Under the scorching noon sun, the circlet amplifies natural heat shimmers into a massive, impenetrable heat-haze mirage. Snipers and mounted archers aiming at the wearer see three trembling, out-of-focus figures across the salt flats, wasting ammunition against atmospheric distortions.
    • Offensive Applications: When charging enemy vanguard lines across open sand, the user unleashes the refractive pulse. The defending infantry’s depth perception instantly collapses; unable to judge how close charging shock troops are, defenders lower their pikes too early or misjudge spear thrusts, breaking their own battle formation before impact.
  • Narrow Subterranean Tunnels, Crypts, and Dungeon Corridors:
    • Defensive Applications: Cornered in a dark ten-foot-wide stone hallway, the wearer activates the circlet to project a smearing visual wake across the stone walls. Burrowing beasts or cave predators relying on compound eyes or darkvision lose track of the wearer’s true mass, striking stone walls instead of flesh.
    • Offensive Applications: Facing a fortified dungeon choke point guarded by archers behind arrow slits, the user triggers Myopic Flash. The narrow hallway appears to warp and melt in the archers’ vision; unable to gauge distance or focus their eyes down the barrel of their bows, the defenders’ ranged cover fire is completely neutralized.
  • Dense Canopy Jungles and Tangled Forest Thickets:
    • Defensive Applications: Moving through dense foliage, the refractive halo scatters light filtering through the tree canopy. The wearer blends indistinguishably into the overlapping leafy patterns, making visual tracking impossible for hunting hounds and ranger trackers.
    • Offensive Applications: During an ambush in the woods, the user applies the focal shift against tree-perched marksmen. The snipers perceive every branch and leaf as a blurred, doubled mass, losing their balance on tree limbs and dropping their weapons through the underbrush.

Perception of Activation:

User’s Perspective

  • Sight: Touching the central gem causes the faux-celestial sapphire to pulse with a cool, watery luminescence. A razor-thin ripple of refracted light rolls outward from the brow like a clear soap bubble, sharpening the user’s own vision while leaving a faint, shimmering halo around the edges of their peripheral view.
  • Hearing: A muted, damp rushing sound passes over the ears, like dipping one’s head just beneath the surface of a still pond or hearing wind blow through heavy sea fog. Kasumi whispers in a timid, breathy cadence through the Mind’s Eye: “They cannot find the edge… step left, they are looking at the smudge.”
  • Touch: A cool, dewy sensation settles across the forehead and temples, akin to a cold damp cloth resting on the skin. A mild tingling static buzzes along the cheekbones as the refractive field establishes itself.
  • Smell: A fresh, wet aroma of dense river mist, petrichor, and damp river stones washes over the nose, clearing out dry dust and stale air.
  • Taste: A faint, clean mineral taste of chilled spring water touches the back of the throat.
  • Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
    • Focal Field Mapping: The user instinctively senses the exact focal planes, pupil dilations, and lines of sight of every creature within thirty paces.
    • Displacement Geometry: An intuitive awareness shows the user where their displaced visual mirage currently appears to external observers relative to their physical body.
    • Empathic Shroud-Link: A direct connection with Kasumi grants immediate warnings when an onlooker attempts to pierce the optical illusion or relies on non-visual senses like tremor sense or scent.

Observer’s Perspective

  • Sight: Witnesses see the delicate silver circlet flare with a deceptive white-blue glow that looks like a holy Seraphian blessing. Instantly, the light smears outward, turning the wearer’s silhouette into an unfocused, double-exposed haze. In full activation, the observer’s own vision rapidly loses focus—edges melt into blurry gradients, distant objects smear into watery colors, and depth perception collapses completely.
  • Hearing: A faint, high-frequency glass-chime resonance hums in the air, followed by the disorienting, hollow silence of a sudden fog bank.
  • Touch: Observers caught in the pulse feel a rapid drop in ambient humidity and a strange, dizzying pressure behind their eyes, akin to severe eye-strain or looking through someone else’s thick corrective spectacles.
  • Smell: A sudden draft of cold, wet cellar air and damp moss sweeps past.
  • Taste: Observers experience a dry, chalky sensation across their lips from reflexive squinting and disorientation.
  • Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
    • Optical Vertigo: Magic users attempting to read the wearer’s aura experience a sudden, dizzying distortion where the aura appears detached and floating yards away from the physical form.
    • Sensory Paranoia: Affected minds feel an instinctive panic as their primary spatial anchor—vision—fails to report clear distances and object boundaries.

Positives

  • Renders the wearer remarkably difficult to strike with targeted ranged, melee, and spell attacks by constantly distorting their true position.
  • Disorients and ruins the combat effectiveness of entire enemy groups simultaneously by destroying their depth perception and visual acuity.
  • Bypasses suspicion in civilized and holy settlements by masquerading flawlessly as a revered, non-threatening diplomatic relic (Seraphic Circlet).
  • Delivers continuous tactical advice on enemy blind spots and line-of-sight tracking via Kasumi.
  • Lightweight (0.5 lbs.) and unobtrusive, fitting seamlessly into standard adventuring gear without encumbering the wearer.

Negatives

  • Entirely ineffective against adversaries that do not rely on vision (e.g., blind creatures, blindsight, tremor sense, echolocation, or scent-based trackers).
  • The distinct shimmer and sudden refractive flash make stealth impossible in pitch-black environments if a light source is present.
  • The 20-foot pulse is indiscriminate; allies caught in the radius who do not avert their gaze suffer the same depth perception collapse and blurry vision as enemies.
  • Kasumi is extremely timid; being stared at directly by truesight entities or subjected to blinding radiance spells can cause the spirit to panic and temporarily retract the refractive field.

Recipe: Forging of the Refractive Mimic Diadem

Materials Needed

  • One Tier-1 Celestial Quartz (cut to project a faint, benign light-magic aura).
  • One Mist-Shrouded Spirit Core (harvested from a timid low-valley Ethereal Shroudling to anchor the sentient soul).
  • Half a pound of refined moon-silver wire (chameleonic alloy capable of conducting illusion matrices).
  • Four ounces of cold-hammered naval brass (used for structural prongs and inner setting clamps).
  • One raw oceanic mist-gem (a pale sapphire-gray stone with natural optical refraction properties).
  • Three drams of distilled essence of lowland river mist blended with powdered chameleonic beast scale.
  • Sacrificial Component: One authentic novice Seraphic Circlet or a consecrated silver prayer-band (consumed entirely to permanently imprint the baseline holy guise and diplomatic resonance).

Tools Required

  • Jeweler’s Precision Pliers and Wire-Mandrel (for bending and sizing the delicate silver band).
  • Fine Diamond Inscribing Stylus (for engraving micro-glyphs of light-bending and focal distortion).
  • Spirit-Binding Crucible and Low-Heat Silver Burner (for melting the sacrificial component without scorching delicate soul fibers).
  • Fluid Micro-Pipette (for injecting the mist-scale tincture into the stone setting).
  • Optical Alignment Loupe (for calibrating the multi-plane refractive facets of the central stone).

Skill Requirements

  • Crafting (Jewelry / Silversmithing): Minimum Skill Level 2.
  • Arcana / Illusion & Light Weaving: Minimum Skill Level 3.
  • Spirit Binding / Soul Anchoring: Minimum Skill Level 2.

Crafting Steps

  • Band Shaping and Structural Base:
    • Heat the refined moon-silver wire with the low-heat burner, drawing and braiding it around the mandrel into a delicate, flexible double-strand circlet.
    • Form the central crown mount using the cold-hammered brass, shaping four secure retaining prongs designed to lock the primary stone in place.
    • Polish the inner rim to a mirror sheenItem: Hand-Bound Leather Journal

Materials Needed

  • 1 sheet of 4–5 oz veg-tan leather (approx. 9″ x 13″ for cover and wrap flap)
  • 40 sheets of blank A4 or Letter-sized acid-free cotton paper (80–120 gsm)
  • 1 spool of waxed linen binding thread (approx. 0.8 mm thickness)
  • 1 leather lace or strap (approx. 24″ long, 0.5″ wide)
  • PVA glue or bookbinding paste

Tools Required

  • Heavy-duty utility knife or rotary cutter
  • Steel ruler and self-healing cutting mat
  • Bookbinding awl
  • Bone folder
  • Two dull-point tapestry needles (size 18 or 20)
  • Hole punch (1/8″ drive punch)

Skill Requirements

  • Novice: Straight-edge cutting and creasing
  • Intermediate: Piercing hole alignment and paper preparation
  • Intermediate: Long-stitch / Kettle-stitch bookbinding

Crafting Steps

  1. Prepare the Signatures: Fold 5 sheets of paper in half together along the short edge using the bone folder to create a crisp spine. Repeat this 8 times to produce 8 distinct signature packets (yielding a 160-page text block).
  2. Cut the Leather Cover: Trim the leather into a single piece measuring 9″ high by 13″ wide. This accommodates the front cover (6″), the spine (1″), the back cover (6″), and an overlapping wrap flap (extras on the edge). Trim the corners to a slight curve if desired.
  3. Punch Sewing Holes: Align the 8 folded signatures spine-to-spine. Mark 4 equidistant sewing holes along the spine edge of each signature and punch through the folds with the awl. Lay the signatures inside the leather cover, mark corresponding hole locations on the leather spine, and punch with the awl or a 1/16″ punch.
  4. Bind the Text Block: Thread a needle on both ends of a 6-foot length of waxed linen thread. Starting from the inside of the first signature, sew outward through the leather spine, loop into the adjacent signature, and weave back through using a traditional long-stitch method. Continue linking each signature to the leather spine sequentially until all 8 are firmly anchored. Tie off with a secure square knot on the interior of the final signature.
  5. Attach the Closure Strap: Punch a 1/8″ hole centered on the edge of the wrap flap. Thread the leather lace through, secure it with a small rivet or a slit-and-loop knot, and wind it around the journal to secure it closed.

Great Sky-Headband and Soft-Handed Person Named Luminae Who Stopped Bad Dirt

In the very old mornings before the sky-fire had learned to sleep behind the hills at night-time, the stars were still very small babies that had no teeth and did not know how to run across the blue ceiling. In that time, high up where the wind has no dust and smells of cold water-ice, there was the high country of the white-feather wing-people called the Seraphians. These people had skin like white river-chalk and hair like yellow grass-threads, and they did not hit one another with heavy oak sticks or throw sharp flint stones, for they knew the high songs that make the teeth stop biting.

Among these sky-dwellers was a person named Luminae, whose two hands were very soft, like the bellies of young field mice, and who had a heart made entirely of soft, yellow sun-metal that never grew cold. When a small flying sparrow-bird broke its thin leg-bone in the high branches, Luminae would blow warm mouth-wind upon the bone, and the bird would immediately stand up straight and sing its throat-song with great happiness. Luminae could not see an old dog cry without weeping two rivers of eye-water that watered the white sky-grass.

Now, down below the cloud-floor, upon the flat face of Saṃsāra, a very bad black sickness had crawled out from the deep mountain holes. It was not a sickness of coughing blood, but a heavy dark-rot that ate the green spirit out of the fat black mud. The wheat grass turned grey like dry wolf-fur, the fat river waters began to smell like rotten pond-frogs, and the two-legged people walked around with long, miserable faces, their bellies making loud rumbling noises like empty clay water pots. They threw their hands up toward the cloud-ceiling and yelled with wide mouths: “Oh, you big people who sit above the thunder! Come down with your big baskets and give us something that does not taste of black poison!”

Luminae leaned over the cloud-edge and looked down with two sad, wet eyes. Seeing the little people eating dry tree-bark and crying into their empty cooking pots, the soft-hearted person Luminae said with a shaking throat: “I will go down to the muddy dirt-place. But I cannot go with empty fingers, or the bad black rot will swallow my feet like swamp-water. I must beat a head-ring out of star-shine that will make the black mud remember how to make sweet melons.”

So Luminae walked up to the highest white peak of the sky-mountains where the stars come down to drink sweet milk from the moon-bowls. Luminae took two big iron-hammers made of frozen light and beat the moon-silver into a long, thin snake-string as delicate as a spider’s morning bridge. Then Luminae gathered five great white feathers from the shoulders of the ancient giant sky-birds—feathers that held hot little sparks of the first morning sun that ever opened its eye upon the world. Luminae sat upon a stone for forty days and forty nights without chewing dry bread, carefully tying the white bird-feathers into the silver snake-band with thin threads of yellow sun-hair.

At the very middle-front of this headband, where a person’s forehead-bone sits, Luminae placed a big, clear river-stone pulled from the deepest well of the high country. This stone was not like ordinary gravel-dirt that children throw at frogs; inside its belly, a white spark moved back and forth like a small, trapped fire-bug, blinking with a sweet, quiet light that made angry sheep stop butting their horns together.

When the head-ring was hammered and woven into a round circle, Luminae took the shiny thing and carried it on two flat palms before the Great Sky-Father Priest whose mouth was so loud that every time he spoke, three mountains fell into the sea. The Big Priest stood upon seven white rugs and made deep chanting-noises in his chest for seven mornings and seven evenings. He poured three clay jugs of glowing star-oil over the silver band and shouted: “Let this ring of sky-silver carry the big light! When it sits upon a brow of good thoughts, let it make the angry wolf lie down like a little fat lamb, and let the broken dirt become sweet bread!”

Luminae put the shiny head-ring upon the forehead-bone. Immediately, the skin of Luminae’s face began to shine like a grease-torch dipped in fat, and a sweet smell of garden-water and wet white lilies rolled out in big circles, so sweet that all the sky-birds came and sat upon Luminae’s shoulders to clean their beaks.

Then Luminae jumped down through a soft cloud-hole and landed upon the muddy dirt of Saṃsāra with a soft thud. Wherever Luminae’s flat feet stepped, the black, stinking mud turned into rich brown dirt that smelled of sweet earth-worms. When Luminae walked past a field of dead wheat, the little spark inside the forehead-gem blinked three times, and the dry grey stalks suddenly stood straight up, turning as yellow and fat as butter-tubs.

The two-legged dirt-people came out of their dark caves with wide eyes, holding their war-axes and fire-sticks because they were very frightened of strangers. A big, hairy warrior-chief with three wolf-skins on his back raised his sharp flint spear and yelled: “Who is this shiny person walking on our dead beans? Kill this stranger and take the white silver hat!”

Luminae did not pick up a stick or throw a stone. Luminae simply stood still and let the soft, white-blue light shine out from the center of the forehead-ring. A low hum-sound, like seventy-seven small bees sitting inside a dry gourd, came out of the silver wires. The hairy warrior stopped his feet, his fingers grew soft like wet clay, and his sharp flint spear fell out of his hand into the tall clover grass. The big chief began to wipe his nose with his dirty sleeve, weeping loudly: “Why was I shaking my spear at this good person? My heart feels like a bowl of warm sheep-milk!”

For many long moons, Luminae walked across the seventy-three big water-islands of the world, wearing the shiny silver crown upon the brow. Wherever the light of the head-ring touched, the bad black blight ran backwards into the deep dark cracks of the ground, like a scared dog running under a woodshed. Luminae touched the sick people with soft fingertips, and their blue fever-spots melted away into clear sweat; Luminae sat between two kings whose armies were sharpening their iron swords, and after hearing the low bee-song of the circlet, the two kings hugged each other’s fat necks and roasted five hundred whole cows for a great peace-dinner.

When the world was fat and green again, and all the cooking pots were full of sweet barley and roasted pig-meat, Luminae took off the shiny silver headband and laid it inside a box of white cedar wood, so that future dirt-people might remember that the biggest light does not come from a burning forest, but from a cool, clear heart that does not want to hurt anything.

Moral of the Story: True power over the great darkness and sorrow of the world is not won through the sharpness of the spear or the fury of the war-cry; rather, it is through the enduring light of compassion, profound wisdom, and the gentle desire for unity that all wounds are mended and lasting peace is restored to creation.

  • Item Stunts and Mechanics:
    • Flawless Seraphic Mask: Divinations, arcane scrutiny, and mundane appraisals treat the circlet strictly as a standard Tier-1 Seraphic Circlet. Piercing the optical subterfuge requires overcoming an obstacle of Great (+4) difficulty.
    • Refractive Smear: The wearer’s silhouette is constantly blurred and out of focus. Gain a +2 bonus to Defend with Athletics against ranged and melee physical attacks, provided the attacker relies on sight.
    • Gaze-Vector Navigation (Kasumi): Gain a +2 bonus to Stealth rolls when actively navigating through sentry vision cones or slipping past watchful observers.
    • Myopic Flash: Once per scene, spend 1 Fate Point to release a disorienting wave of optical distortion across the zone. Create a scene aspect titled Crippling Astigmatism & Ruined Depth with two free invokes. Opponents in the zone must overcome a Fair (+2) obstacle to target anyone beyond their immediate zone or move across zones without stumbling.
    • Aberrant Focal Shift: Once per session (or by spending 1 Fate Point), when targeted by an incoming physical attack or targeted spell, the wearer immediately shifts their visual image 10 feet to the flank. Treat the incoming attack roll as an automatic failure with no shift cost or stress suffered.
  • Troubles and Compels:
    • Sensory Panic: If the wearer is subjected to blinding holy light or confronts entities with true sight that stare directly into the gem, Kasumi may panic and withdraw, temporarily negating the Refractive Smear until calm is restored.

Cypher System and Numenera

The Myopic Starlight Diadem (Mimic 318) Wearable Artifact / Artifact Level 3 (Elevated Level 4 Potency)

  • Form: A delicate silver headband inlaid with cold-hammered brass, mounting a single multifaceted pale-sapphire mist-gem that constantly displays displaced light reflections.
  • Depletion: 1 in 1d10 (checked only upon activating the Aberrant Focal Shift).
  • Passive Effects:
    • Deceptive Aura: Diagnostic scans and esoteric analyses identify the artifact as a standard Level 3 Seraphian relic of light and empathy.
    • Refractive Shroud: The wearer’s visual profile is smeared and out of focus. Speed defense rolls against ranged and melee attacks that rely on vision are eased by one step.
    • Gaze Mapping (Kasumi): The bound entity eases all tasks related to stealth, hiding, and evading visual observation by one step.
  • Activated Effects:
    • Myopic Flash: The wearer expends 2 Intellect points to tap the mist-gem, releasing a wave of refractive energy across immediate range (10 feet). All hostile creatures within range must succeed on a Level 4 Might defense roll or have their vision severely blurred for 1 minute. Affected targets treat all tasks requiring depth perception or sight beyond immediate range as hindered by two steps, and all movement across uneven terrain is hindered by one step.
    • Aberrant Focal Shift: As a Speed defense reaction to an incoming attack, the wearer expends 3 Speed points to refract their visual form 10 feet to the side. The triggering attack automatically misses, and the wearer gains the benefits of full concealment until the start of their next turn.

    • Action Cost: Two Actions (Concentrate, Manipulate)

The target may attempt a new DC 22 Fortitude save at the end of each of its turns to end the condition.
