From: Alchemic Synthesizer
Lore
- Built in total secrecy during the Great Astral Convergence by a splinter faction of renegade hydro-arcanists, this imposing device was designed to flawlessly mimic the appearance, runic carvings, and thermal signature of an authentic Alchemic Synthesizer.
- While the original furnace purifies base materials and brews elemental draughts, this mimic was designed as a conduit for pure, deep-sea cerulean resonance, manipulating the flow of spiritual mana, liquid ether, and cryogenic stasis rather than conventional elemental transmutations.
- Bound deep within the obsidian piping is a timid yet remarkably shrewd soul named Aozora, distilled from the condensed essence of an ancient Ethereal Shroudling from the deepest abyssal trenches.
- Aozora hides behind false fiery runic auras to avoid detection by inquisitive alchemical conclaves, only revealing its azure glow and speaking telepathically through the Guide Manager to an attuned bearer who demonstrates patience, profound intellect, and a calm, deliberate spirit.

Acquisition and Commerce of the Cerulean Resonator Crucible
- High-Arcana Auction Houses and Imperial Reliquaries:
- Located in the central spires of grand magocratic capitals, sovereign free cities, and planar nexus citadels.
- These high-security establishments operate with anti-scrying wards, sworn neutral arbiters, and elite appraisal councils who cater strictly to archmages, sovereign monarchs, and guild syndicates.
- Purchasing cost: Because the item flawlessly mirrors the legendary Alchemic Synthesizer, it is treated as a stolen or salvaged national treasure of the Obsidian Alchemist’s Conclave. It starts at a reserve bidding price of 250,000 to 500,000 Gold Sovereigns (or equivalent imperial astral platinum). Archmages willing to wage bidding wars may push the transaction past 1,000,000 Gold Sovereigns.
- Selling to shopkeeper: If brought to an auction curator, they will demand chain-of-custody verification. Once authenticated via standard divinations as the Conclave’s flagship furnace, the house offers a liquidation advance of 100,000 to 150,000 Gold Sovereigns, keeping a standard 20% brokerage commission upon auction finalization.
- Subterranean Syndicate Vaults and Deep Black-Market Fences:
- Concealed within flooded deep-harbor vaults, sunken abyssal smuggler docks, and clandestine planar outposts catering to illicit alchemical cartels and rogue artificers.
- These black-market syndicates specialize in relocating hot, high-tier artifacts away from planetary authorities and militant conclaves.
- Purchasing cost: If the black-market fence believes the item is an authentic Conclave Synthesizer, it is priced as hot, high-risk contraband for 75,000 to 100,000 Silver Talents / Pure Astral Ingots. If an enlightened buyer discerns its true cerulean hydro-stasis nature and elevated Tier-5 power, the syndicate demands up to 200,000 Platinum Bullion or rare abyssal trade goods.
- Selling to shopkeeper: A rogue fence pays a flat cash buyout of 40,000 to 50,000 Gold Equivalents, factoring in the immense logistical risk of storing and transporting a 3,000-pound hot artifact.
- Ancient Ruin Excavation Enclaves and Forgotten Hermit Sages:
- Discovered deep within forgotten sunken ruins, abyssal sea-trenches, or secluded caldera sanctums where reclusive hydro-sages live in isolation.
- Rather than relying on standard coinage, transactions here occur via ancient bartering rituals, sovereign favors, and esoteric reagent trades.
- Purchasing cost: Sages will not accept common currency; acquiring the crucible requires offering rare master-grade reagents, such as a Primordial Abyssal Pearl, three vials of Leviathan Heart-Blood, or the complete deciphered astral star-chart of the Sunken Isles.
- Selling to shopkeeper: If an avatar relinquishes the crucible to a hermit sage, the sage will trade master-tier aquatic enchantments, ancient lost blueprints, or a permanent sanctuary pact rather than metallic coin.
Tactical and Environmental Applications of the Cerulean Resonator Crucible
- Fortified Strongholds, Laboratory Vaults, and Siege Sanctuaries:
- Defensive Applications: When a stronghold’s outer gates fall to hostile siege engines or elite breach teams, the user activates the crucible’s secondary release valve. A shockwave of dense blue mist and harmonic pressure fills the defensive chamber, freezing the entire enemy vanguard into immobile blocks of sapphire ice. Aozora whispers precise spatial calculations to the attuned operator, pinpointing structural breach lines and predicting when secondary charges might impact the chamber walls.
- Offensive Applications: Operating from the heart of the sanctum, the user synthesizes draughts of Elixir of the Abyssal Tide for the garrison’s vanguard assault squad. Empowered by liquid ether efficiency and physical adaptation, allied shock troops charge out into hazardous, suffocating environments to break siege lines. The user then transmutes mundane raw iron bars into Cerulean Orichalcum, immediately forging hyper-dense armor-piercing ballista bolts that freeze enemy siege towers on impact.
- Sunken Ruins, Abyssal Trenches, and Submerged Dungeons:
- Defensive Applications: When deep-sea horrors or leviathan predators assault the submerged laboratory, the crucible generates an immense hydrostatic equilibrium field. The field stabilizes crushing ocean pressures, repels scalding hydrothermal vents, and prevents waterborne shockwaves from rupturing the sanctum’s transparent viewing domes.
- Offensive Applications: The operator vents the crucible’s cerulean ether into the surrounding ocean water, triggering a massive, directional cryogenic blast. The expanding azure stasis field flash-freezes entire schools of aquatic monstrosities, creating sprawling crystalline ice platforms that allied strike teams can traverse to clear submerged ruin corridors.
- Volcanic Calderas, Magma Forges, and Ash Wastes:
- Defensive Applications: In extreme geothermal environments where superheated magma threatens to overwhelm a base camp, the crucible constantly projects an ambient cryogenic aura. This suppresses radiant heat, neutralizes toxic sulfur plumes, and prevents heat exhaustion across the entire installation.
- Offensive Applications: When facing magma elementals or fire-drakes, the user channels raw subterranean heat directly into the crucible’s sapphire reservoirs. The device inverts the thermal energy into an overwhelming cryogenic discharge, launching localized blizzards of deep-blue frost that instantly solidify rivers of lava, turning molten ground into brittle obsidian pathways and encasing fiery adversaries in stasis.
- High-Altitude Skyships, Floating Observatories, and Cloud Citadels:
- Defensive Applications: While under aerial bombardment from sky-corsairs, the crucible stabilizes ambient air pressure and counteracts severe updrafts, preventing skyship hulls from buckling during high-altitude dogfights. The passive stasis field shields key navigational equipment from lightning strikes and atmospheric distortion.
- Offensive Applications: During boarding actions or hull-to-hull engagements, the user vents the crucible’s blue harmonic pressure toward an enemy vessel’s lift-balloons or propulsion thrusters. The rapid cryogenic condensation encrusts the hostile engines in dense cerulean ice, stalling their flight systems and sending the enemy vessel into an unrecoverable descent.
- Subterranean Caverns, Fungal Forests, and Underdark Thoroughfares:
- Defensive Applications: When cornered by subterranean swarms or burrowing apex beasts, the operator triggers the crucible’s lockdown to flash-freeze tunnel entrances with five-foot-thick plugs of sapphire ice. Aozora monitors seismic reverberations through the bedrock, warning the user of burrowing flanking vectors before hostiles can breach the perimeter.
- Offensive Applications: In expansive underground chambers, the user dispenses concentrated cryogenic vapor into subterranean rivers flowing toward hostile outposts. The toxic spore colonies and dark-elf encampments downstream are inundated with creeping blue frost, neutralizing fungal hazards, freezing defensive moats solid, and creating clear offensive breach points for allied forces.

Perception of Activation:
User’s Perspective
- Sight: When the primary obsidian valve is turned, the false orange-gold runes along the furnace instantly wash over with deep sapphire light. The five internal reaction reservoirs glow like bioluminescent abyssal trenches, casting undulating, water-like light patterns across the chamber ceiling as a thick, swirling cerulean mist spills over the base.
- Hearing: A deep, harmonic sub-bass drone hums through the floorboards, sounding like the singing of distant leviathans beneath miles of ocean ice. The voice of Aozora echoes softly in the wielder’s mind with cautious, calculating clarity: “The temperature falls… the currents are stilled.”
- Touch: A sudden, dry cryogenic chill radiates outward, causing hairs to stand on end without causing frostbite to the attuned operator. The heavy stone controls feel weightless and fluid under the hands, vibrating with a rhythmic hydrostatic pulse.
- Smell: A clean, sharp scent of frozen sea spray, crushed glacier ice, and ozone-rich arctic wind overtakes the room, completely purging all stagnant alchemical fumes or smoke.
- Taste: A crisp, cold, and slightly saline taste settles on the back of the palate, like inhaling mist near an ocean waterfall in mid-winter.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Hydrostatic Mapping: The user mentally perceives the moisture levels, fluid conduits, and temperature gradients of all entities and structures within a hundred paces.
- Chrono-Spatial Stasis Awareness: An innate sense of slowing kinetic vectors allows the user to see rapid physical movements as sluggish, predictable arcs of potential force.
- Resonator Soul-Link: An empathic bond with Aozora provides immediate, instinctive awareness of mechanical fatigue, mana flow stability, and thermal pressure across the crucible’s framework.
Observer’s Perspective
- Sight: Witnesses see the massive obsidian furnace suddenly flare with blinding cerulean luminance as a tidal wave of pale blue fog rolls across the floor. Any targets caught in the radius rapidly accumulate crystalline blue frost until completely encased in translucent sapphire ice blocks.
- Hearing: Observers hear an ominous, metallic hum that drowns out ambient sound, followed by the crystalline crackle of air moisture freezing in an instant and the sudden, eerie silence of paralyzed foes.
- Touch: Creatures near the activation zone feel an immediate, severe drop in ambient temperature and a heavy atmospheric pressure that makes movement feel like wading through thick, freezing oil.
- Smell: An overwhelming, freezing draft of glacial salt air and sharp mineral frost rushes through the nostrils.
- Taste: Observers experience a numbing, metallic frostbite sensation on their lips and tongue.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Abyssal Dread: Non-attuned magic users feel an overwhelming psychic sensation of sinking into a lightless, frozen oceanic trench.
- Aura Inversion: Diviners and aura-readers observe the crucible’s fiery transmutation signature collapse inward and explode into an immense vortex of cryogenic abjuration mana.
Positives
- Instantly incapacitates and paralyzes multiple elite adversaries in stasis without inflicting destructive kinetic collateral damage to the surrounding sanctum.
- Generates high-tier master elixirs (Elixir of the Abyssal Tide) and rare transmutative metals (Cerulean Orichalcum) with elevated Tier-5 potency.
- Rejuvenates allies and purges exhaustion twice as fast via the ambient cerulean depth aura.
- Flawlessly masks its true nature and location behind the legendary reputation of an authentic Alchemic Synthesizer.
- Provides the user with continuous telepathic tactical guidance and structural vulnerability assessments through Aozora.
Negatives
- The device is completely immobile, weighing 3,000 pounds, and cannot be transported without monumental logistical effort or high-tier spatial rituals.
- The wide cryogenic blast radius is indiscriminate within its 30-foot perimeter, risking freezing unprotected allies or delicate non-cold-resistant lab equipment caught in the burst.
- Aozora possesses a reclusive, anxious demeanor; exposing the crucible to aggressive mental intrusions or cataclysmic seismic disruptions can cause the soul to temporarily seal the release valves and withdraw into dormant silence.
- The distinct cerulean mist and sapphire glare make covert operation impossible once the stasis matrix is actively vented.
Recipe: Construction and Binding of the Obsidian Crucible Synthesizer
Materials Needed
- One Tier-4 Alchemical Core Battery (intact primal elemental crystal capable of catalyzing multi-element reactions).
- One and a half tons of volcanic obsidian (quarried from deep geothermal vents, unblemished and free of fracture lines).
- Fifty pounds of refined star-forged iron ingots (used for internal frame reinforcement and heat-resistant seals).
- Twenty pounds of fine gold and silver wire (for engraving conduits and exterior runic inlays).
- Five high-grade alchemical glass reaction reservoirs (cut from tempered quartz crystal).
- Ten gallons of distilled mineral oil infused with powdered void-stone and fire-essence ash.
- Sacrificial Component: One master-grade artisan alchemist’s alembic or a fully operational lesser crucible apparatus (consumed during the enchanting process to imprint the foundational vessel-memory and thermal containment pathways).
Tools Required
- Star-Forged Iron Inscribing Stylus and Chisels (for carving arcane and elemental binding runes into the obsidian shell).
- Lapidary Cutting and Polishing Rig (for shaping and smoothing the massive obsidian blocks).
- High-Heat Blast Forge and Master Mason’s Trowels (for heating, assembling, and joining structural plates).
- Fluid Collector and Precision Pipettes (for charging individual internal reaction vials).
- Consecration Brazier and Ley-Line Anchoring Spikes (for channeling ambient mana during ritual bonding).
Skill Requirements
- Crafting (Stonemasonry / Metallurgy): Minimum Skill Level 5.
- Alchemy / Reagent Synthesis: Minimum Skill Level 5.
- Arcana / Elemental Binding: Minimum Skill Level 4.
Crafting Steps
- Obsidian Shaping and Structural Assembly:
- Cut and polish the volcanic obsidian slabs into an eight-foot-tall, five-foot-wide rectangular furnace chassis featuring gothic arches and vaulted inner chambers.
- Reinforce the internal load-bearing junctions using star-forged iron framing, sealing all joints with the mineral oil and void-stone mortar.
- Seat the five tempered quartz reaction reservoirs inside the central reaction chamber, connecting them via gold-lined induction channels.
- Runic Inscription and Conduit Inlay:
- Using the star-forged stylus, carve the intricate binding runes of transmutation, purification, and elemental balance across the exterior face and inner arches.
- Inlay the carved channels with alternating threads of fine gold and silver wire, hammering them flush with the polished obsidian surface.
- Trace the catalytic ley-lines from the outer control valves directly into the base of each quartz reservoir.
- Sacrificial Imprinting and Core Binding:
- Place the sacrificial alembic apparatus into the central chamber alongside five gallons of the distilled essence solution.
- Fire the furnace using the high-heat blast forge until the sacrificial components completely melt down into a radiant, metallic-arcane slag.
- Lower the Tier-4 Alchemical Core Battery into the liquefied pool, allowing the crystal lattice to absorb the vessel-memory and anchor the permanent transmutation matrix.
- Elemental Calibration and Final Activation:
- Fill each of the five quartz vials with primary elemental reagents (fire, water, earth, air, and pure ether).
- Drive the anchoring spikes into the floor surrounding the crucible to establish a stable geomantic grounding field.
- Channel focused elemental mana through the gold and silver runes for two continuous hours while reciting the ancient Ebon Shaper binding chants.
- Complete the activation by engaging the primary release valve; a low, rhythmic hum and a steady internal glow confirm that the catalytic furnace is fully stabilized and ready for operation.
Great Black-Rock Cooking Pot and Pride of Woman-Chief Veylora
In the first mornings of the world-egg, before the rivers had learned their paths to the big salty water, there sat the black mountain named Kharzadul. Inside the dark belly of this mountain lived the clever rock-cutting people called the Ebon Shapers, whose fingers were always black with coal-dust and whose eyes were bright like hot furnace-sparks. They had a great hunger in their stomachs—not for the flesh of the wild horned pigs, nor for the sweet mountain berries, but for the secret words that make the red fire speak to the blue water and make the heavy grey dirt turn into soft yellow gold.
Among these stone-digging people was the chief-woman Veylora, whose head was full of many strange dream-pictures. Veylora could put her ear against the hard stone and hear the earth-spirits grinding their teeth, and she could smell the coming of the thunder three days before the sky grew black. She stood before the great fire-circle of her people and shouted with a loud throat: “We are not small worms that crawl in the mud until our backs break! We will build a great stone-chest that can swallow the raw world and spit out the sweet juice of the sky-dwellers! We will make the basest mud as pure as the stars!”
For three long lifetimes of the tall cedar trees, the Ebon Shapers dug into the deepest cracks of the world where the black glass-stone is born from the burning belly-spit of the mountain. They dragged out huge square blocks of black obsidian that were as smooth as a frozen pond and as dark as the middle of the night. They washed these stones with the fat of cave-bears and cut them with hard iron-teeth brought down from the fallen star-rocks. From the high ridges they pulled long, shining ropes of yellow gold and white moon-metal, melting them in clay dishes to fill the lines of the thousands of mystery-drawings carved upon the black stone’s face.
Within the hollow ribs of this eight-foot-tall stone box, they placed five round glass-pots with long necks. Each pot was filled with the hot, colored blood of the world: red soup that burned without wood, blue water that stayed cold in the middle of a campfire, green mud that smelled of living leaves, and golden air that made the hair on a man’s arms stand straight. When the last gold wire was hammered into the stone cheek of the furnace, the Ebon Shapers beat their drums of dry ox-skin and blew through hollow mammoth-bones, singing the seventy-seven secret names of the binding-fire until the mountain shook.
When the great black pot was first fed with fire-oil, it did not roar like an angry beast, but gave out a deep, steady hum-noise—like a million yellow bees trapped inside a hollow hollow log. Through this black furnace, the people of Veylora did many impossible things that made the neighboring kings drop their walking sticks in terror. They took the soft grey lead that fishermen use to sink their nets and cooked it until it ran out as heavy, pure gold. They poured in pond-water full of swamp-rot and pulled out clear, sweet drops that could knit together the broken bones of a hunter who had fallen from the high cliffs.
They made a hot, red drink called the Draught of the Eternal Flame. When a warrior drank this bitter broth, he could walk straight through a burning forest of dry pine without a single hair of his beard curling from the heat, and when he spit, he spit real fire that turned the shields of his enemies into black ash. They brewed also the pale, windy juice that let a man hear what the eagles were saying three mountains away. Kings from the four flat corners of the world brought wagon-trains loaded with ivory tusks, white pearls, and red wine to trade for a single clay jug of the pot’s miraculous sweat.
The city of Kharzadul grew very fat and proud. The people wore silk coats colored like parrot-feathers and drank sweet wine from gold-rimmed horn cups, laughing at the other tribes who still had to chase deer with flint spears. But the great watcher in the high blue sky, the order-keeping god Thaldris, looked down through the cloud-cracks and saw that the black-rock furnace was burning too brightly for mortal hands. He wrapped himself in a dirty sheep-skin coat, took a crooked hazel stick, and walked down the mountain paths in the guise of a limping beggar.
Thaldris came into the high vaulted hall where the obsidian furnace hummed its low bee-song, and he spoke to the chief-woman Veylora: “Listen with your two ears, daughter of the mud-diggers. The fire you have trapped in this black stone box is the sacred marrow of the world-bones. If you use it to heal the sick and mend the broken plow, the earth will be glad. But if you try to make yourselves into gods who do not die, the fire will turn around in its tracks and eat the hands that hold the ladle.”
Veylora laughed at the limping stranger with a hard, ringing mouth-noise. She shook her gold-ringed hair and replied: “You are an old dog who has lost his biting-teeth! We have caught the four winds in glass jars, and we have made the black stone bow to our will. We will not stop until we have cooked the very water of life that makes a man live forever, and then we shall sit on the high seats and look down upon the clouds!”
The god turned his back and walked away into the mountain fog, leaving his warning words burned into the door-lintel of the hall: “The black stone that burns too hot will leave only grey ashes for its masters.”
Full of furious pride and paying no heed to the beggar’s speech, Veylora ordered her disciples to prepare the Great Brew of Never-Dying. They gathered the most terrible and forbidden things in the world: the milk of a two-headed sea-serpent, the white frost scraped from the highest peak of the sky-mountain, and the dark glowing dust that falls from the tails of dead shooting-stars. They poured these strange juices into the five glass pots and stoked the blast-fire with three cartloads of black coal.
The Shapers chanted for seven days without putting water in their mouths or letting their eyelids fall. The gold and silver lines on the obsidian furnace grew so hot that they turned white like noon-sunlight, and the low bee-hum became a screaming wind that cracked the crystal torches on the walls. The colored liquids in the five glass pots began to fight one another like trapped wolves, spitting out hot purple smoke that smelled of lightning and burning bone.
On the midnight of the seventh day, the Obsidian Crucible could no longer hold the angry elements inside its belly. The black stone furnace tore open with a sound louder than ten thousand falling cliffs. A great wave of white and purple fire washed through the halls of Kharzadul in the twinkling of an eye, melting the stone pillars like sheep-tallow and turning the three thousand people of the Ebon Shapers into fine grey dust before they could even draw a breath to scream. The entire mountain fortress collapsed into a vast, boiling hole of red-hot rock and smoking ash.
Many hundreds of winters went by, and the green moss grew over the black bones of the ruined mountain. The wild mountain goats walked upon the cold cinders where the great kings had once begged for potions. When the later alchemists of the Obsidian Conclave finally dug through the mountain rubble, they found the great black furnace still standing in the center of the ash-field, cracked along its obsidian ribs and scarred by ancient fire, but still holding its mysterious power. They gave it a new name, the Alchemic Synthesizer, and set it behind three heavy iron doors with a hundred guards, remembering always the terrible price that had been paid for its birth.
Moral of the Story: The pursuit of profound wisdom and mastery over the natural elements is an honorable path, but when mortal ambition turns to hubris and seeks to conquer creation without balance or humility, the very power one seeks to master will inevitably consume the hands that wield it.
