Lore: Crafted by ancient spiritual accountants and economic wardens among the island nations, this item was forged to bring spiritual balance and absolute order to wealth, trade, and commercial dealings. These practitioners recognized that monetary flow reflects the spiritual circulation of vital energy across Saṃsāra. When a practitioner bound raw copper-infused jade to an enchanted electrum band, they created a catalyst capable of auditing transactions, detecting commercial deception, and safeguarding personal assets. This charm was historically granted to junior bank clerks, guild scribes, and traveling merchants tasked with managing ledgers in distant ports.
Description
- The item takes the form of a thick, polished ring carved from deep green jade, wrapped in a thin band of hammered electrum and centered with a miniature minted copper coin.
- Runic markings depicting scales, coin stacks, and ledger lines are etched along the outer circumference of the band.
- When held or worn, the central copper coin gives off a faint, steady amber glow that warms gently whenever currency or assets pass through the owner’s hands.
- The band fits snugly upon a finger and remains completely untarnished by dirt, salt, or ink.

Multiple Passive Magics
- Auditor’s Eye: While the ring is worn and attuned, the avatar gains a heightened intuitive sense during commercial transactions. When evaluating coins, trade goods, or financial contracts, the avatar receives advantage on skill checks made to detect counterfeit currency, short-weighed metals, non-metal coin discrepancies, or fraudulent trade terms.
- Asset Safeguard: Whenever the avatar takes physical damage from an incoming attack, the magical matrix within the electrum band absorbs a tiny fraction of the impact energy and converts it into a protective ward over the avatar’s personal inventory. This prevents items stored in pouches, coin purses, or belt slots from being stolen, dislodged, or damaged during that combat action.
Multiple Activable Magics
- Currency Audit: By using 1 Action to touch the ring’s central copper coin and speak a short somatic mantra, the avatar projects an immediate aura that instantly counts, weighs, and verifies the total precise metal or non-metal value of all physical coins, gems, or currency contained within a targeted bag, pouch, or chest. This ability can be used three times per day.
- Vault Tether: By using 1 Action to focus on the ring, the avatar communicates telepathically with their World Bank account via their Mind’s Eye, receiving an exact breakdown of recent account adjustments and current holdings without needing to visit a bank branch. In addition, once per day, this ability can be activated to immediately deposit up to 50 physical gold coins from hand directly into the user’s World Bank account without paying the standard 1% deposit transaction fee.

Shops and Commerce for Kahuna 914 of the Astral Ledger (Venues and Transactions for the Item).
- World Bank Branches and Financial Exchange Houses: Located within the central cities and major trade districts of island nations such as Aterian, Assyria, or Teotihuacán. These grand stone complexes manage monetary transfers, coin minting, and international credit for merchants and royalty. Buying the item involves a formal transaction with a bank teller or teller-magus, where the ring is issued as a certified commercial aid. When selling the ring back to a bank branch, officials inspect its magic matrix, conduct an exchange assessment, and credit the funds directly to the avatar’s World Bank account minus standard transaction adjustments.
- Purchase Cost: 10 Silver (or 2 Electrum)
- Sale Payout: 9 Silver (deposited directly into the World Bank account for a Tier 1 avatar)
- Merchant Guildhalls and Commercial Trade Depots: Situated within major port cities and trade hubs where Guild Masters organize regional workforce logistics and interstate commerce. Access to these internal inventory vaults requires active membership in the local Merchant or Scribe Guild. Buying the item provides members with a subsidized tool for auditing bulk cargo and coin shipments. Selling the item to a Guildmaster or official clerk involves transferring the item into the guild’s regional supply log.
- Purchase Cost with Guild Discount: 9 Silver (reflecting the standard 10% discount off the suggested 10 Silver base value for a Tier 1 member)
- Sale Payout to Guild Master: 9 Silver (deposited directly into the World Bank account)
- Family Scribe Shops and Local Jeweler Benchmarks: Found in smaller towns, city marketplaces, and municipal districts where independent artisans craft rings, balances, and ledger tools for local shopkeepers. Purchasing the ring involves haggling directly over the counter with the shopkeeper, who values the item for its pristine electrum finish and trade utility. Selling the item here yields immediate physical coin, though the merchant will haggle based on standard tier-based trade margins.
- Purchase Cost: 11 Silver (or 1 Gold 1 Silver)
- Sale Payout: 8 Silver 5 Copper in physical coin
- Underground Black-Market Fences and Money Laundering Dens: Located in hidden alleys, docks, or unpatrolled cellar vaults outside the oversight of state guards and tax assessors. These illicit vendors specialize in untraceable transactions, stolen merchant ledgers, and unrecorded wealth. Transactions here bypass the World Bank entirely and must be paid in hard physical gold or precious metals.
- Purchase Cost: 15 Silver (or 1 Gold 5 Silver, due to black-market markups for undocumented commercial tools)
- Sale Payout: 10 Silver in physical gold coin (black-market fences may pay up to double a standard merchant’s offer if they have an immediate need for an item that bypasses World Bank deposit fees)
Roleplay Application of Kahuna 914 of the Astral Ledger Across Environments (Combat and Tactical Roleplay in Varied Environments).
- Busy City Marketplaces and Grand Bazaars: Amidst crowded stone thoroughfares filled with street vendors, pickpockets, and mercenary guards in central trade capitals.
- Defensive Roleplay: While pushing through a chaotic crowd after collecting a high-value payment, a cutpurse attempts to slash the avatar’s belt pouch with a hidden razor. As the blade strikes the leather, the ring’s Asset Safeguard passive magic flashes with an amber flare. The player describes the impact absorbing into the ring’s electrum band, creating a localized force ward over the coin purse that prevents the leather from cutting and keeps the physical currency securely locked in place.
- Offensive Roleplay: Facing a corrupt merchant guard who demands an illegal bribe or threatens physical violence, the avatar steps forward and uses the Currency Audit activable magic. The player narrates tapping the central copper coin while reciting a brief somatic mantra, instantly projecting an amber sweeping aura across the guard’s belt pouches. The ring loudly announces the exact count and origin of the smuggled, non-metal coins hidden on the guard’s person, throwing the guard into a state of panic and distraction, allowing the party to take advantage of the guard’s off-balance state.
- High-Altitude Zeppelins and Floating Merchant Docks: On the open decks of trade airships and suspended sky-port platforms where trade cargo and precious metals are loaded under high winds.
- Defensive Roleplay: During an aerial raid by sky-pirates, an explosion rocks the airship deck, sending loose crates and equipment flying toward the party. The avatar plants their feet while holding the ringed hand forward. As debris strikes the avatar’s torso, the ring absorbs part of the kinetic shock and channels it into protecting the trade manifest scrolls and ledger pouches strapped across their sash, ensuring critical financial documents remain undamaged amidst the wreckage.
- Offensive Roleplay: Confronting a sky-pirate captain on an open catwalk, the avatar uses the Vault Tether activable magic. The player describes the avatar focusing on the jade band to summon a sudden, glowing amber holographic projection of an active World Bank ledger audit directly between them. The sudden appearance of official financial seals and glowing numbers startles the pirate captain, creating a tactical opening for the avatar’s allies to strike while the target’s attention is divided.
- Subterranean Vaults and Deep Cave Treasure Hoards: Inside dark, subterranean ruins, ancient dragon lairs, or underground guild crypts filled with uncounted historical loot.
- Defensive Roleplay: Upon opening a chest in an ancient vault, a hidden poison-needle trap fires directly at the avatar’s hand. The passive Asset Safeguard magic activates, absorbing the needle’s physical impact against the jade ring itself and preventing the trap from dislodging or contaminating the gems held in the avatar’s palm.
- Offensive Roleplay: When a group of underground bandits demands the party hand over their treasure chest under threat of attack, the avatar uses the Currency Audit ability on the bandits’ own loot sack. The player roleplays loudly declaring the precise, underwhelming total value of the bandits’ poorly acquired coin haul down to the last copper. The sudden, accurate exposure of their meager earnings undermines the bandit leader’s authority, sowing discord among the ranks and reducing their combat effectiveness as they begin arguing among themselves.
- Coastal Wharves and Customs House Gates: At state border checkpoints, coastal docks, and island customs stations where goods are heavily taxed and inspected.
- Defensive Roleplay: A crooked tax inspector attempts to confiscate an avatar’s trade goods under false claims of unpaid state fees. The avatar uses the Auditor’s Eye passive magic to analyze the inspector’s ledger. The player narrates identifying the fraudulent mathematical entries instantly through the ring’s guidance, allowing the avatar to defend their property legally and prevent state guards from seizing their cargo.
- Offensive Roleplay: During a dockside skirmish with contraband smugglers, the avatar uses the Vault Tether ability to instantly deposit 50 physical gold coins from their hand directly into their World Bank account without paying transaction fees. The player roleplays the physical coins vanishing in a flash of amber light, denying the smugglers any financial gain from the encounter while simultaneously disorienting the attackers who were attempting to disarm and rob the avatar.

Perception of Activation:
User’s Perspective
- Sight: The small copper coin set in the electrum band flashes with a warm, steady amber luminescence that travels along the carved runic scales, casting a soft golden radiance across the user’s fingers and surrounding ledger sheets.
- Hearing: A delicate, metallic chiming sound—resembling pristine silver coins clinking together inside a velvet-lined purse—echoes softly in the user’s ears.
- Touch: A sudden, crisp sensation of cool metal washes over the finger wearing the ring, followed by a gentle, soothing warmth that spreads up the wrist and into the palm.
- Smell: A rich, distinct scent of fresh parchment, metallic copper minting, and dark archival ink fills the user’s nose.
- Taste: A faint metallic taste, akin to holding a clean copper token against the lips, registers briefly at the tip of the tongue.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (Mind’s Eye): The Mind’s Eye immediately fills with a glowing, structured ledger grid displaying exact numerical totals, asset values, and transaction records down to the smallest copper piece.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (Soul Sight): The avatar beholds a golden energetic thread linking the jade band directly to their World Bank spiritual vault, confirming an unbreachable connection between their person and their stored wealth.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (Commercial Intuition): The user senses a subtle pulse of static friction whenever a nearby coin, contract, or trade item possesses false values, counterfeits, or hidden discrepancies.
Observer’s Perspective

- Hearing: Nearby merchants and guards hear the faint, crisp ring of falling coins and the soft rustle of turning parchment pages.
- Touch: Standing adjacent to the user reveals a faint, dry atmospheric shift, as if the surrounding humidity had momentarily crystallized into crisp, still air.
- Smell: Observers catch a brief whiff of polished desk wood and freshly minted coinage wafting from the activated ring.
- Taste: Those in close proximity experience no direct taste, though the air feels slightly crisp and dry upon the palate.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (True Sight): Individuals with True Sight see a brilliant amber barrier wrap around the user’s belt pouches and inventory slots, locking the contents in an immovable, phase-locked state.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (Audit Aura): Characters with elevated extra-sensory perception feel a sudden, uncomfortable mental pressure, as if an invisible clerk were silently counting the contents of their pockets.
Positives
- Provides instant, perfect verification of physical and non-metal currency values without requiring manual counting or scales.
- Creates an unbreachable protective ward over personal inventory, preventing theft, dislodging, or damage to stored items during combat.
- Enables direct telepathic communication with World Bank accounts and bypasses standard 1% deposit fees once per day.
- Heightens commercial awareness, making it impossible for fraudulent contracts or counterfeit coins to go unnoticed.
Negatives
- The distinct amber light and chiming coin sounds instantly alert nearby thieves, guards, or competitors that financial magic is being used.
- The aromatic flare of fresh ink and parchment makes silent, stealthy commercial audits difficult in confined spaces.
- Overuse of the Mind’s Eye ledger interface can induce a minor mental fatigue as endless numerical columns stream through the user’s thoughts.
- Bypassing standard bank transaction fees and conducting remote audits can draw the curiosity or unwanted scrutiny of World Bank officials and local tax assessors.
Crafting Recipe: Kahuna 914 of the Astral Ledger
Materials Needed
- 1 block of deep green Jade (carved and polished into a thick finger band)
- 1 strip of hammered Electrum (gold-silver alloy used to wrap the outer band)
- 1 minted Copper Coin (freshly struck to serve as the central focus)
- 1 Tier 1 Magic Crystal (coin-sized catalyst to power the commercial matrix)
- 2 drams of Fluid Collector-harvested Tree Sap (derived from hardwood resin to seal the band)
- 1 vial of enchanted Gold-Dust Ink (used to trace the runic ledger lines)
Tools Required
- Fine jeweler’s chisels, saws, and polishing files
- A specialized Hand-Held Attunement Workbench or Jeweler’s Anvil
- A Fluid Collector (for gathering pure tree sap resin during preparation)
- A miniature ceramic crucible and precision blow-torch
- Fine magnifying lenses for micro-engraving
Skill Requirements
- Jewelry Crafting / Fine Metalworking Skill: Level 6 or higher (Base skill 5 + 1 for Tier 1 crafting target)
- Magical Crafting / Rune Inscription Skill: Level 6 or higher
- Crafter Tier: Tier 1 Avatar or higher
Crafting Steps
- Preparation of the Jade Ring: Using jeweler’s saws and fine files, cut and hollow the block of deep green jade into a smooth, thick ring sized to fit a standard finger slot. Polish the inner and outer surfaces until smooth.
- Shaping the Electrum Inlay: Hammer the electrum strip into a thin, uniform band. Carefully etch micro-grooves along its length to accommodate the runic scales, coin stacks, and ledger markings.
- Preparing the Central Coin Focus: Place the minted copper coin and the coin-sized Tier 1 magic crystal into the ceramic crucible. Apply controlled heat to fuse the back of the copper coin with the refined crystal core, creating a unified metallic-arcane focus without melting the coin’s face.
- Assembling the Ring Components: Mount the fused copper-crystal focus into the center of the electrum band. Wrap the electrum band securely around the outer channel of the jade ring, using harvested tree sap as an organic bonding agent to lock the metal to the stone.
- Inscribing the Runic Ledger: Using fine engraving tools, trace the runic lines along the electrum surface. Fill the engraved channels with enchanted gold-dust ink, sealing the runes against wear and environmental tarnish.
- Sealing and Polishing: Coat the outer surface of the ring with a final layer of clear tree sap resin. Buff the entire piece using a soft cloth and polishing stone until the electrum gleams and the jade takes on a deep luster.
- Final Attunement and Binding Test: Place the completed ring on the attunement workbench and execute a 10-minute binding ritual. Channel 1 point of Mana into the central copper coin. Roll a d20 to verify the stability of the merger: a roll of 2 or higher successfully binds the properties into the item, while a roll of 1 results in a crafting failure that shatters the jade and consumes the materials.
Great Counting Ring of Green Stone
In the ancient days before the years were given numbers by the kings of the seventy-three lands, there was a man who worked inside the stone house where the shiny disks are kept. His name was Kahuna of the Small Coins. He did not carry a sharp sword, nor did he ride upon the big flying bird, but he knew how many copper pieces were inside a sack without opening the rope.
In those times, the people who sold the dried fish and the fruit of the palm tree were very slick with their hands. They did put small pieces of lead inside the gold, and they did say to the buyer, “This is pure gold from the river, give me three cows for it!” The buyers did cry with much anger in their bellies, because their pockets became light while the slick sellers became fat with many cows.
The king of the island called Kahuna to his high chair and spoke with a loud noise: “O Kahuna, the people are hitting each other with sticks because the money is false! Make for me a thing that sees inside the pocket, or I shall take thy boots away!”
Kahuna went to the green mountain where the hard green stone grows under the dirt. He dug with his hands until his nails were broken like old dry twigs. He found a piece of jade as big as the egg of a water duck. He took also a small coin of red copper and a strip of the pale metal that is half sun and half moon. He sat by the sea for six days without turning his eyes, speaking the old words of the counting spirits: “O Stone of the Earth, do not let the liar take the coin of the poor man!”
He bound the pale metal around the green stone and pushed the red copper coin into its middle part. When he placed the ring upon his finger, his eyes became like the eagle’s eyes. He could see through the leather bag, and he could hear the sound of false metal when it touched the wooden table.
Kahuna walked into the grand market of the city. A merchant with a big belly offered him a bag of silver for a fine blanket. Kahuna looked upon the bag with his ring. The ring did flash with the light of the golden plum, and Kahuna spoke in a loud voice: “This bag hath forty pieces of silver, but ten pieces are made of painted clay!” The merchant became red in his face and did run away into the bushes, leaving his trousers behind.
The king was very pleased with Kahuna. He gave him a hat with three feathers and said, “Thou shalt sit at the gate of the bank house forever!” For fifty winters, Kahuna sat at the gate. No thief could take the coin from his purse, for whenever a thief reached out his hand, the ring did make a force like a shield of iron, and the thief’s fingers were bent back like dry grass.
When Kahuna grew very old and his knees were like dry bones that rattle, he passed the green ring to his daughter, who was named Kahuna of the Big Books. But the scroll says that a wicked ruler from across the salt water came with many ships. He tried to take the ring to count all the gold in the world for himself. But when the wicked ruler put the ring upon his thumb, the ring did send all his gold into the deep vault under the earth, and the wicked ruler had no money left to pay his soldiers, so they hit him with their hats and went home.
The ring was hidden inside a stone pot under the floor of the World Bank for three thousand years, until the scribes found it again. But all who trade in the markets of Saṃsāra still tell the story of the green ring that knows the truth of every copper piece.
Moral of the Story: He who tries to build a mountain of wealth upon the sand of deceit shall find his pockets empty when the tide of truth comes in, for true value cannot be faked before the eyes of the righteous auditor.
