The Kith’iri Seekers
Species
Kith’iri mobilis. The Seekers are the active, mobile, and youthful stage of the Kith’iri race. They are the explorers, diplomats, merchants, and information-gatherers of their society, forming the public face of the nobility. They are driven by an innate desire to learn and experience the world.
Physical Form and Sensory Traits
Seekers are slender, amphibious humanoids with features reminiscent of axolotls or aquatic nymphs. Their bodies are smooth and streamlined, with delicate, webbed hands and feet. A long, finned caudal tail provides their primary means of propulsion, moving with a graceful, serpentine motion. Their most striking features are their large, dark, curious eyes and the external, feathery gills that fan out from their necks in vibrant colors.
Their primary senses are vision and a unique form of magical perception. Their eyes are adapted to the varied light of different aquatic environments, and they can perceive magical auras and currents as faint, shimmering heat hazes in the water. This sense guides them on their life’s journey.
General Size
- Height: 1.2 to 1.5 meters (approximately 4 to 5 feet).
- Weight: 40 to 60 kilograms (approximately 90 to 130 pounds).
Body Pattern
A Seeker’s skin is semi-translucent and bioluminescent. Their base skin tones range from pale pearl to deep indigo, but this is constantly overlaid with a shifting pattern of soft, internal light. These patterns ripple across their bodies in response to their emotions and thoughts, acting as an involuntary, simple form of telepathic communication.
Life Cycle
This is the first and longest stage of the Kith’iri life cycle, lasting anywhere from 50 to 100 years. From birth, Seekers feel an instinctual wanderlust known as “The Seeking.” They are compelled to travel, learn, gather stories, and absorb as much sensory and intellectual data as possible. This is not simple curiosity; it is a biological imperative. The experiences they accumulate are believed to be the essential “nutrients” required for their final metamorphosis.
Potential Positives and Negatives
- Positives: Seekers are incredibly fast and agile in the water. Their small, slender frames make them excellent infiltrators and explorers. Their innate curiosity and charming, expressive nature make them natural diplomats and merchants.
- Negatives: They are physically frail and not suited for heavy combat. Their emotional bioluminescence makes them easy to read and difficult to deceive with. They can be seen as flighty or unreliable due to their constant need to pursue new experiences.
Specialized Item Slots
- Caudal Fin Sheath (Tail Slot): A sheath or brace fitted to their tail that can hold enchanted fins for enhanced speed, or small, specialized tools.
- Gill-Guard (Head Slot): A delicate, cage-like piece of enchanted metal or coral worn over their external gills for protection without impeding function.
- Dermal Hydrator (Body Slot): A light harness with enchanted nodes that magically keeps their sensitive skin perfectly hydrated, allowing them to survive for extended periods in different water salinities or even on land.
Environmental Adaptability
Seekers are highly adaptable, capable of thriving in a wide range of aquatic environments, from coral reefs to deep-sea trenches, as long as their gear is appropriate. Their curious nature drives them to visit all corners of the world.
Other Information
Seekers are the active agents of their society’s rulers. They carry out the will of the Oracles, going on quests and missions to gather specific pieces of lore, forge alliances, or scout new territories. For a Seeker, a life rich with diverse experiences is the most honored path.
The Kith’iri Oracles
Species
Kith’iri terminus. The Oracles are the final, sessile, and ancient stage of the Kith’iri race. Having completed their “Seeking,” they undergo a profound metamorphosis, becoming the immortal, wise rulers and living libraries of their nation.
Physical Form and Sensory Traits
An Oracle is a breathtaking fusion of biology and geology. Their original Seeker body is almost entirely subsumed into a massive, throne-like geological formation, typically a Luminous Coral head or a giant, hollowed-out geode. The visible portion is usually a serene, androgenous humanoid torso and head that appears to be carved from living, light-infused crystal or coral. Their eyes are closed, yet they glow with a steady, internal light.
Their physical senses are gone. Instead, they perceive the world through a powerful, collective psionic network. They can scry distant locations, sense the psychic echoes of major events, and communicate telepathically with their Seekers and each other over vast distances. They perceive the world as a symphony of thought, intention, and magical energy.
General Size
- Formation Diameter: 5 to 10 meters (approximately 16 to 33 feet).
- Visible Torso: Life-sized, approximately 1 meter in height.
Body Pattern
The crystal or coral formation an Oracle merges with permanently takes on the unique bioluminescent pattern of their former Seeker self. Unlike the shifting light of a Seeker, an Oracle’s light is a steady, deep, and complex glow, forming a living mandala of their accumulated wisdom.
Life Cycle
This is the final, eternal stage. When a Seeker has gathered a sufficient lifetime of knowledge and experience, they are instinctively drawn to a sacred, hidden cavern known as the Coral Chorus. Here, they select a vacant geode or coral throne and begin the “Great Rooting.” Over the course of a year, their body merges with the stone, their mind connects to the psionic gestalt of the other Oracles, and they are reborn. As Oracles, they can live for millennia, their consciousness contributing to the whole.
Potential Positives and Negatives
- Positives: Oracles possess vast, near-omniscient knowledge due to their shared consciousness. They can wield immense psionic and magical power, focused through their geological form. They are effectively immortal and have a perspective that spans ages.
- Negatives: They are completely immobile and fixed to one spot for eternity. If their hidden sanctum is discovered and breached, they are extremely vulnerable to direct physical attack. Their consciousness is so vast and collective that they can become detached from the struggles of individuals.
Specialized Item Slots
Oracles don’t “wear” gear. Instead, items are integrated directly into their throne-form.
- Focusing Crystal Sockets (Multiple): Sockets and cavities carved into their form where large, perfectly cut crystals can be installed. These are used to focus their psionic energy for scrying, communication, or defensive wards.
- Runic Inlay Grooves (Body/Throne Slots): Grooves carved into their crystalline surface where runes of power, etched onto plates of precious metal or shell, can be inlaid to provide permanent magical effects or augment their abilities.
- Offering Niches (Multiple): Small alcoves in their form where Seekers place artifacts and unique items gathered from their travels. The Oracles can psionically analyze these objects to absorb their history and magic.
Environmental Adaptability
Oracles have zero environmental adaptability. They are permanently bound to the specific location where they underwent their metamorphosis. Their entire nation is built around these sacred caverns.
Other Information
The Oracles rule as a single, gestalt consciousness known as the Chorus. They do not issue commands in a traditional sense; they provide guidance, purpose, and questions to their Seekers. The relationship is symbiotic: the Oracles provide wisdom and direction, and the Seekers provide new data and experiences, which are absorbed into the Chorus, enriching the entire race. They are the ultimate example of a reclusive, knowledge-hoarding nobility.
