Guild Instructions: Hark! Hearken, all ye brave and bold. A winemaker of renown, known by all in Saṃsāra, hath lost a vial most precious: an elixir said to turn any drink into the finest wine. The townsfolk long for its return, and the winemaker seeks aid to find it.

Gold Reward: Fifty golden crowns.

Uncommon Magical Reward: A goblet, enchanted to chill any drink poured within to the drinker’s liking.

Difficulties: The elixir hath been lost in the twisting vines of the Everthorn Woods, a place where not all is as it seems.

Problems: Beware the Woodland Sprites, mischievous beings who relish in trickery. They have an affinity for shiny objects and may have taken the elixir for themselves.

Who to ask for more information: Seek out Master Brunwin, the winemaker, at his vineyard atop the rolling hills, just beyond the town’s end.

Environments to be seen:

  • The rolling vine-clad hills.
  • The mysterious and dense Everthorn Woods.
  • The hidden groves within, filled with ancient wine barrels.

Mark thine intent with the guild clerk ere thou departs, and may fortune favour thee in this endeavour.

Registering for the Quest: When the party approaches the guild clerk to register for the quest, the clerk, a bespectacled individual with a meticulous demeanor, checks a large ledger to confirm that the quest is still open.

Warnings Given: “Be cautious in the Everthorn Woods,” the clerk advises, pointing to the quest details. “It’s not just the Woodland Sprites you have to worry about. The woods themselves can play tricks on the unwary traveler. Stick together and trust your instincts.”

Preparation Needed: “It might be wise to bring some form of repellent or charm against the sprites. Perhaps some items to barter or distract them, given their love for shiny things. Also, make sure you’re well-equipped to handle the natural challenges of the forest – it’s easy to get lost or run into other dangers.”

Distance and Duration: “The Everthorn Woods are about a day’s journey on foot from here. Depending on the challenges you face and how quickly you can locate the elixir, you might be there for a couple of days. I’d plan for at least a three-day excursion, just to be safe.”

Additional Information: “Master Brunwin is a respected figure in these parts. It’s said that his family’s vineyard has a secret recipe passed down through generations. Losing this elixir might mean more than just financial loss for him. Approach him with respect and patience; he’s been quite distraught.”

Writ of Questing: The clerk then presents a stamped piece of parchment, the “Writ of Questing”. “This writ,” the clerk explains, “entitles your party to procure necessary mundane items for your journey from the guild’s storeroom. Remember, this is not a gift. The value of the items will be noted, and you’re expected to repay the guild either with gold or through service on future quests. If the items are not used, they should be returned. The storeroom master will assist you.”

With the writ in hand, the party can now visit the guild’s storeroom to gather any additional supplies they might need for their journey into the Everthorn Woods.

Book IV Chapter XXVII: The Whispering Woods of Everthorn

In the heart of Saṃsāra, where the land’s breath meets the sky’s sigh, lies the mysterious Everthorn Woods. Many a soul hath ventured in, lured by tales of Master Brunwin’s coveted elixir, only to be ensnared by the woods’ beguiling charm. The trees, tall and ancient, hold secrets within their gnarled bark, and the air is thick with the murmurs of sprites and spirits of yore.

Yet, not all is as it seems in these woods. The sprites, whilst playful, have a propensity for mischief. Their laughter, like the tinkling of bells, masks the deeper, more malevolent whispers that float on the breeze. The forest floor, carpeted with fallen leaves, hides treacherous paths that lead astray even the most cautious traveler.

Beneath the veil of beauty, danger lurks. For the Everthorn Woods have seen centuries come and go, and in their depths, they cradle the memories, hopes, and fears of those who dared to tread their ground. Only the truly worthy, or the profoundly fortunate, manage to navigate the forest’s enigmas and emerge with tales of their own to tell.

To venture into the Everthorn is to dance with destiny itself, and those who seek Master Brunwin’s elixir must be prepared to pay the price, for the woods demand respect, and their secrets are not easily relinquished.

Guide Manager’s notes for “Quest 2378 of: The Elixir of Everthorn”

Alright, team! This is an engaging quest with a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and a touch of danger. Here’s a breakdown of how it should flow for the players:

  • Introduction: Begin at the local tavern where an old winemaker recounts tales of the Everthorn Woods and Master Brunwin’s legendary elixir which can, supposedly, enhance the taste of any wine.
  • Gathering Information: Direct players to gather intel from the townsfolk. They will come across various rumors and old wives’ tales about the woods and the elixir.
  • Setting Out: As the players approach the Everthorn Woods, set the mood with the sounds of distant laughter and the rustling of leaves. Make them feel both the allure and the danger of the woods.
  • The Sprite’s Challenge: Early in their journey, players encounter playful sprites. The sprites won’t let them pass unless they solve a riddle related to winemaking.
  • Narrow Pathway: The woods get denser, and the path narrows. Players must rely on their wilderness skills to navigate and avoid getting lost. Incorporate a skill check here.
  • The Whispering Pools: A series of pools with crystal clear water. But, they’re not just for show! If a player looks into a pool, they see a vision from their past. Use this as an opportunity for character development.
  • Danger Ahead: Introduce a conflict. Maybe the woods are protected by guardians who don’t take kindly to those seeking the elixir. A bit of combat to spice things up!
  • Discovery of the Elixir: Hidden deep within the woods, in a clearing bathed in moonlight, players find the elixir. But, there’s a catch! It’s in a sealed ancient container. Deciphering how to open it without breaking is the challenge.
  • A Twist in the Tale: Once they have the elixir, reveal that its real power isn’t about wine enhancement. Instead, it’s a potion that lets one communicate with nature, feeling the very pulse of the world of Saṃsāra.
  • Returning Home: The journey back should be about reflection. Allow players to use the elixir and experience the magic of Saṃsāra in a profound way, deepening their connection to the world and their journey.

Remember, the focus here is on the journey, not the destination. Encourage role-playing, and let the players immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Saṃsāra. Happy guiding!
