From: EmpathForge
Lore: Centuries ago, during a time of great discord and strife in Saṃsāra, a renowned empath and artisan named Aria Sunweave sought to bring harmony and understanding to a world torn by conflicts. Drawing upon her profound connection to emotions, Aria crafted the first Harmony Amulet—a pendant imbued with her empathic magic. When worn, the amulet not only attuned the wearer to their own emotions but also allowed them to empathize with the feelings of others.
As Aria wore the amulet during her diplomatic missions and peace talks, she witnessed the transformative power of empathy. Empires that once clashed over resources found common ground, and long-standing enemies found the courage to reconcile their differences. Aria’s legacy lives on through the EmpathForge, where skilled artisans and enchanters continue to craft Harmony Amulets, each bearing a portion of Aria’s boundless compassion.

- Observer’s Perspective: Those nearby may hear a subdued hum, like distant windchimes, if they focus closely. Otherwise, the sound is subtle and might go unnoticed.
- Positives: Calming, meditative ambiance; can help the user center themselves.
- Negatives: Can be unsettling if someone is unaccustomed to unexplained humming; might interfere with sensitive negotiations if perceived as distracting.
- Touch
- User’s Perspective: The amulet grows slightly warm against the skin, spreading a comforting heat that cascades through the chest. Occasionally, a gentle tingling sensation runs up the neck and across the shoulders.
- Observer’s Perspective: No noticeable change in temperature is felt externally, though the amulet may appear to subtly vibrate.
- Positives: Encourages a sense of reassurance; warmth can soothe anxiety.
- Negatives: In high-stress situations, the increased warmth can feel intense or overwhelming.

- Observer’s Perspective: Observers might sense the user becoming more attentive, thoughtful, or reactive to their emotional states, but they cannot directly perceive the empathic resonance themselves.
- Positives: Deepened connection, fosters compassion and understanding, beneficial for negotiations and conflict resolution.
- Negatives: Emotional overload if the environment is filled with strong negative emotions; risk of the wearer losing their own emotional boundaries.
- Aetheric Feedback:
- User’s Perspective: Feels like a soft current of energy flowing between the amulet and the atmosphere. Occasionally, the user may get faint mental images or subtle intuitive “nudges” about someone’s emotional well-being.
- Observer’s Perspective: If magically attuned, observers might see faint arcs of light or energy flickers around the amulet. Otherwise, it remains imperceptible.
- Positives: Provides insight that can guide the user toward more compassionate actions; can prevent misunderstandings.
- Negatives: Can be startling or confusing if the user is untrained in managing magical sensory input; risks misinterpretation of emotional signals.
- Empathic Resonance:

These combined sensations can be powerfully uplifting yet also overwhelming if the wearer is not prepared for the depth of emotional connection the amulet provides.
Recipe: Harmony Amulet (EmpathForge Replica)
- Materials Needed
- Aetherite Crystal (1) Must be of sufficient purity to hold empathic enchantments.
- Enchanted Fabric Swatch (1 small piece) Lightly woven with arcane threads to stabilize magical resonance.
- Herbal Essence Vial (1) Typically a mix of soothing botanicals (e.g., lavender, chamomile) to enhance empathic energies.
- Fine Silver Filigree (enough for a 1.5-inch pendant setting) Silver is known for its conductive properties in empathy-based enchantments.
- Binding Agent (small quantity) A specialized adhesive or bonding compound that can handle magical infusions—often derived from alchemical resins.
- Tools Required
- Jeweler’s Workstation: For precise metal shaping and gemstone setting.
- Enchanting Altar or Arcane Focus: A dedicated area where magical energy can be safely channeled into the amulet.
- Mortar and Pestle (for herbs): Used to prepare the Herbal Essence if additional refinement is needed.
- Protective Gloves & Eye Gear: Safety measures, as magical resonance can emit bright flashes or mild arcs of energy.
- Skill Requirements
- Empathy (Novice level) The ability to sense and gently focus on emotional currents is needed to attune the crystal.
- Enchanting (Apprentice level) Basic knowledge of infusing and binding magical energies into objects.
- Jewelry Crafting (Basic proficiency) Essential for shaping the silver filigree and securely setting the Aetherite Crystal.
- Crafting Steps
- Preparation of Materials
- Refine the Crystal: Ensure the Aetherite Crystal is cleansed of impurities by briefly bathing it in a weak cleansing solution (a light saltwater bath or a gentle arcane cleanse).
- Prepare Herbal Essence: If needed, grind any dried botanicals in a mortar and pestle, then combine them with the essence to ensure a concentrated infusion of empathic resonance.
- Shaping the Filigree
- Using a Jeweler’s Workstation, carefully shape the silver into a circular pendant about 1.5 inches in diameter.
- Create an ornate setting at the center designed to hold the Aetherite Crystal securely.
- Incorporate any decorative patterns you desire, ensuring there are no sharp edges that might disrupt the flow of emotional energy.
- Weaving the Enchanted Fabric
- Cut a small piece of the Enchanted Fabric to fit beneath or behind the crystal setting (like a backing).
- The fabric will serve as an anchor for empathic energy, preventing sudden surges or disruptions.
- Infusing the Crystal
- Place the cleansed Aetherite Crystal on the Enchanting Altar (or Arcane Focus).
- Begin the Empathy-based Enchanting Process:
- Focus on calm, positive emotions (compassion, understanding, serenity).
- Channel these emotions into the crystal, visualizing them as faint light or gentle waves of energy.
- Maintain steady breathing to keep the energy flow smooth and consistent.
- Combining All Components
- Once the crystal has been properly attuned, carefully bond it to the silver pendant setting using the Binding Agent.
- Place the piece of Enchanted Fabric against the back of the crystal before finalizing the seal.
- Allow the binding agent to cure, ideally under a gentle arcane lamp or mild heat source for best integration.
- Final Attunement
- With the amulet assembled, perform a brief Empathic Calibration:
- Hold the pendant in both hands.
- Inhale slowly, focusing on a single empathic intention—such as “promote harmony” or “foster understanding.”
- Exhale, letting that intention flow into the amulet.
- Observe if the crystal glimmers or shifts hue slightly, indicating a successful bond.
- With the amulet assembled, perform a brief Empathic Calibration:
- Quality Check
- Inspect the pendant for any cracks in the crystal or imperfections in the silverwork.
- Ensure the amulet emits a subtle, pleasant sensation—warmth, gentle thrumming, or a slight glow—when held by someone with empathy or enchanting skill.
- Preparation of Materials
Your Harmony Amulet is now complete! When worn, it should gently amplify the wearer’s ability to sense and connect with nearby emotions, continuing the legacy of Aria Sunweave and her mission to bring greater understanding to the world.
Ariah Sunwav and the Glimmering Cordial Charm
Long ago, in the kingdom once called Sam’sara—though it is said the true name is lost to dust in memory—there was a storied figure known as Ariah Sunwav. She, being of many heart-listening skills, did craft a pendant, much revered across the lands. The people name this pendant “Harmonie Ammulat,” though its earliest name cannot be fully deciphered from the oldest runic stones.
In that ancient era, woes and strifes plagued the corridors of royal keeps and the huts of simple folk alike. Ariah, with a gentle spirit and eyes that could see sorrow in all, yearned for a bridging of hearts. Gathering rare crystals that glowed under star’s tears, she wove them with delicate threads said to come from the far realm of shimmering echoes. Upon forging, the Ammulat took upon itself the warmth of a thousand kindly souls, thus able to help those who wore it sense the tears and joys in others.
Many scribes, not fully understanding the craft, wrote of Ariah’s journeys:
“She carried the Soft Stone through forest of gloom and city of towers, uniting foes with the hush of compassion.”
Across centuries, these accounts grew mismatched. Some say Ariah’s Ammulat shined like a captured moonbeam; others say it hummed like a sleeping dragon. Records even differ on whether Ariah was a mortal woman or a being half made of starlight. Yet all remain certain that hearts changed wherever she trod.
When Ariah last was seen, it is claimed she held the Ammulat against her chest, offering final counsel to embittered armies on a field known as the Plains of Lament. Under the Ammulat’s glow, the great war halted, replaced with tearful reconciliation. Afterwards, she disappeared into quiet legends, leaving behind only the pattern of her enchanting craft. Through many recitations and misread runes, the design was recovered, leading to the tradition of forging similarly empathic pendants. But none have quite captured the perfect glow or subtle hum of that earliest creation.
And so remains the story, carried by word of mouth from chiseled tablets half broken, from manuscripts so faded that scribes could only guess at words. We glean only fragments, but all retell that Ariah Sunwav wrought a wonder that helped souls speak in gentle truth.
Moral of the Story: Even in times of greatest discord, a single heart filled with genuine compassion may guide many toward peace.

CALL OF CTHULHU (7th Edition)
Name: Harmony Amulet
- Description: A small pendant containing a faintly glowing crystal bound in delicate filigree.
- Game Mechanics:
- Empathic Resonance: The wearer can sense strong emotions within a 10-foot (3-meter) radius. Once per game session, the wearer may attempt a Power (POW) roll to heighten this effect.
- On a success, the wearer gains a bonus die (roll an extra tens digit die, then choose the lower result) on one Charm, Persuade, or Psychoanalysis roll involving individuals whose emotions are being sensed.
- On a failure, the amulet’s energies briefly overwhelm the wearer, imposing a penalty die on the next social or investigative roll.
- Sanity Considerations: While beneficial in reading emotions, the amulet can expose the wearer to unsettling mental states (especially if Mythos-related). When encountering entities or situations that provoke intense fear or madness, the Keeper may impose an additional Sanity roll with a small penalty (e.g., –1 to –2 to the roll) as the wearer experiences an amplified version of that dread.
- Empathic Resonance: The wearer can sense strong emotions within a 10-foot (3-meter) radius. Once per game session, the wearer may attempt a Power (POW) roll to heighten this effect.
- Keeper’s Note:
- Adjust any radius or bonus penalty dice to suit the scenario’s intensity. Longer or repeated uses of the amulet could have deeper psychological consequences, feeding into the horror of the Mythos.
BLADES IN THE DARK
Name: Harmony Amulet
- Item Type: Arcane Implement (1 Load)
- Game Mechanics:
- Empathic Attunement: When you use the Harmony Amulet during a social encounter, you gain +1 effect level (or improved potency) on Consort or Sway actions to build trust or broker peace.
- Emotional Feedback: You may also use Attune to read the emotional state of a person or small group. On a 4/5 result, you get limited insight; on a 6, you gain clear, detailed emotional resonance. A critical grants profound understanding (potentially revealing hidden motives). On a 1–3, you risk taking stress or a complication if strong negative emotions overwhelm you.
- Usage Notes:
- The amulet’s arcane quality makes it particularly sought after by whisperers, cultists, or anyone dealing in clandestine negotiations.
- Story-driven complications: Overuse or misuse of the amulet can attract unwanted attention from spirits or malicious forces drawn to heightened emotional energies.
DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (5th Edition)
Harmony Amulet
- Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)
- Empathic Field: While wearing and attuned to the Harmony Amulet, you can sense the emotions of creatures within 10 feet of you. This sense gives you advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks made to discern a creature’s emotional state or intentions.
- Soothing Presence (1/Long Rest): As an action, you can exude calming magic in a 15-foot radius around you for up to 1 minute. Each creature of your choice in the area has advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. Additionally, whenever a creature in the area makes a Charisma check to de-escalate conflict or negotiate peace, it gains a +2 bonus during the effect’s duration.
- Emotional Overload: If you willingly remain in an area of strong hostility (such as a raging battle) for an extended period (DM’s discretion, typically more than a few rounds), you must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become Stunned until the end of your next turn, as overwhelming negative emotions flood your senses.
- DM’s Discretion:
- Radius, bonus, and DC can be adjusted based on game difficulty.
- Repeated or long-term attunement might lead to story hooks or unique emotional side effects.
KNAVE
Harmony Amulet
- Encumbrance: 1 Slot
- Empathic Detection: The wearer can detect strong emotions within Close range (approximately 10 feet). Once per day, the wearer gains advantage (roll twice, take better result) on a single reaction roll or other social check when attempting to calm or empathize with a group or individual.
- Drawback: If used in highly stressful or hostile situations (Referee’s call), the wearer risks becoming overwhelmed by negative emotions, imposing disadvantage (roll twice, take worse result) on the next action of any sort (combat, saving throw, skill check).
- Referee Notes:
- This item’s main power is social rather than combat-oriented. Adjust the advantage/disadvantage conditions to suit the tone of your game.
- The amulet can become a plot element if the heightened empathy reveals hidden foes, heartbreak, or betrayal.

- Depletion
- Roll: 1d20
- Depletion: 1 on a 1–2 (GM may modify to 1 on a 1–3 if you want a more fragile item).

PATHFINDER (Second Edition)
Name: Harmony Amulet
- Item Level: 5 (Uncommon, Divination, Emotion, Mental)
- Price: ~160 gp (GM’s discretion)
- Traits
- Worn Item, Neck Slot, Invested
- Activation
- Empathic Sense (Constant): While invested, you gain a +2 item bonus on Perception checks to Sense Motive.
- Calming Resonance (1/day) – [two-actions] The amulet emits a wave of soothing energy in a 10-foot emanation for 1 minute. Each creature in the area (excluding you) takes a –1 status penalty to attack rolls made against other creatures in the area, unless it succeeds at a Will save against your class DC or spell DC (choose the higher). Creatures that critically fail this save can’t use hostile actions unless first attacked or otherwise provoked.
- Drawback
- Emotional Backlash: If three or more creatures in the area become hostile to one another while Calming Resonance is active, the amulet’s empathic link overloads. You become Stunned 1 and can’t use this ability again until the next day.
- Notes
- The numeric values (bonuses, DC, item level, etc.) can be adjusted to match your campaign’s balance.
- GMs may enhance or reduce the amulet’s effect in social encounters to suit story-driven outcomes.
SAVAGE WORLDS (Adventure Edition – SWADE)
Name: Harmony Amulet
- Rank: Seasoned (Recommended)
- Edges/Power Type: Arcane Device (Empathy/Divination)
- Effects
- Empathic Field: The wearer gains +2 on Persuasion or Notice rolls to read emotions or promote peaceful outcomes, as long as they focus on the amulet’s power (a free action each round to maintain concentration).
- Emotional Overload: When a combat or intense confrontation erupts nearby, roll Spirit at –2. On a failure, the wearer becomes Shaken as they reel from the influx of fear or aggression.
- Power Points and Casting
- If you prefer to treat this as a magic item with embedded powers, the amulet could hold 10 Power Points. Its user can activate a detect or soothe-type power (akin to the empathy or relief Powers, depending on the setting).
- The user must succeed on an Arcane Skill roll (or Spirit roll, GM’s discretion) to activate. Each use costs 2 Power Points.
- Notes
- GMs can modify the penalty or cost based on how often they want the amulet used.
- For campaigns without a formal Arcane Background, you can treat it as a special edge-case item allowing limited empathic abilities.
SHADOWRUN (Sixth Edition)

- Type: Magical Gear (Focus)
- Category: Qi Focus (Social)
- Force/Rating: Typically 1–3 (GM’s discretion)
- Availability: (4 × Force)R

- Overload: In a scene with severe hostile emotion (e.g., violent arguments or intense fear), the GM may call for a Willpower + Intuition (3) test. If failed, the user becomes Distracted (–2 dice to all tests) for (Force) Combat Turns due to empathic overload.
- Bonding & Drain: The character must bond with the focus as normal (Karma cost = Force × 2). The amulet’s empathic resonance is subtle enough not to cause direct Drain, but GMs can rule otherwise if used excessively.
- Notes for GMs:
- Adjust Force and dice bonuses to maintain balance.
- The amulet’s ability to read emotions might be highly valuable in negotiation or infiltration scenarios, so consider potential story repercussions.

Creatures of the wearer’s choice in the area gain a +1 morale bonus to Will saves against fear or emotion effects. Additionally, attempts to use Diplomacy to improve attitudes within this area require half the usual time.

- Increase item level, bonuses, and daily uses as party level grows.
- Consider advanced or variant versions (e.g., a Mark II Harmony Amulet with improved bonuses).
TRAVELLER (Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition)

- Cost: Cr10,000
- Mass: Negligible

- Emotional Eavesdrop: As a minor action, the wearer may attempt a Recon or Investigate check (Difficulty 8) to gauge the dominant emotional state of one individual within short range. Success reveals basic emotional cues (anger, fear, excitement).
- Overload: If confronted by intense negative emotions (riots, panic, etc.), the Referee may require an Endurance check (Difficulty 6). A failed roll means the user suffers a –1 DM penalty to social skill checks for 1d6 minutes, overwhelmed by empathic “feedback.”
- Referee Advice:
- Modify cost, Tech Level, or effect difficulty to align with your campaign setting.
- If your Traveller universe uses Psionics extensively, consider weaving the amulet’s powers into that subsystem.

- Optional Magical Resonance: If your campaign uses spells or talents that tap into emotional magic, the Harmony Amulet can serve as an Arcane Focus for such effects, granting +1 SL (Success Level) when casting spells with the “Charm” or “Harmony” traits (if applicable).
- GM Notes:
- Adjust the item’s cost and bonuses based on how common or powerful you want empathic magic to be.
- Consider narrative consequences: repeated exposure to extreme negativity might cause unforeseen side effects or corruption tests, depending on your setting’s tone.
