Lore
The convergence of the Allure Circlet and the Disturbed Vessel resulted in the creation of the Echo of the Agitated Dream. This item was forged by a grieving artisan who sought to both captivate the beauty of a lost love and manifest the storm of their own mourning. It serves as a reminder that the most alluring dreams are often born from the deepest turmoil, and that a calm exterior frequently masks a raging internal tempest.
Description
This tier 2 item is a single, unified physical object: a polished silver circlet featuring a central moonstone that has been stained with swirling, smoky internal inclusions. The filigree of the band is no longer just wispy; it now depicts jagged lightning bolts that seem to crawl around the wearer’s brow. The stone itself hums with a faint vibration, pulsing with a pearlescent light that flickers violently whenever the wearer’s pulse quickens.

Passive Magics
- Magnetic Presence: The wearer radiates a dual aura of warmth and mystery, providing a constant medium difficulty reduction for social interactions with sentient beings.
- Premonitory Storm: The internal storm within the moonstone becomes erratic seconds before a conflict, granting the wearer a subtraction of 3 from their initiative roll.
- Dreamer’s Resilience: While worn, the wearer gains a mental buffer against external emotional manipulation, adding a +2 bonus to any related saving throws.
Active Magics
- Tempestuous Allure (Ritual): By chanting for more than 6 seconds and sacrificing 1 HP, the wearer projects a 15-foot radius illusion. This creates a mesmerizing storm where the rain smells of lavender and the lightning flashes with a beautiful, blinding silver light. Affected targets must succeed on an opposed save or become both Charmed and Disoriented.
- Illusory Strife (Normal): The wearer can temporarily alter their appearance to look like a person the target either deeply loves or fears. This grants a bonus to Persuasion or Intimidation equal to the wearer’s Tier die.
- Silver Fire Discharge: The wearer can spend 1 Mana point to cause the circlet to emit a blinding flash of moonlight, dealing the base item damage plus 2d6 (Tier 2 damage) as unresistible silver fire to a target within 15 feet.

Targeted Item Integrity and Restorative Procedures
The hit points for the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029 are calculated based on the standardized formula for a Tier 2 uncommon item. To determine the specific threshold an attacker must overcome to disable the item’s magic, one must add the avatar’s maximum hit points to the item’s resilience factor (20, derived from its resilience of 10 multiplied by its tier level of 2). If an attacker successfully lands a hit on the item by exceeding its specific targeted AC, the item is immediately deactivated and its attunement is severed.
Once the item has taken damage equal to or exceeding half of its total hit points, it enters a “broken” state, rendering all passive and active magics non-functional. Because items do not recover health naturally over time, the following actions are required for restoration:
- The item must be physically repaired through the use of appropriate tools and materials, such as a jeweler’s forge and pure silver, to restore its HP pool.
- Once the hit points are fully restored, the item must undergo a ritual attunement of at least 10 minutes before its magical properties can be reactivated.
- If the item’s hit points are reduced to zero, it is destroyed and reverts to its original component parts, including the stained moonstone and silver filigree, requiring a complete reconstruction.
Acquisition and Market Dynamics of the Echo of the Agitated Dream
In the world of Saṃsāra, obtaining a Tier 2 artifact like the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029 is rarely a matter of simple commerce. Because it is a merged item—a singular physical object born from the fusion of dream-based and spatial illusion magics—it is often found through specific narrative channels rather than mass-produced inventories.
Methods of Acquisition
- Commissioned Merging: The most direct way to obtain this item is by commissioning a high-level artisan or technomancer to merge a Dream Magic 342 of Allure and a Spatial Illusion 47 of the Disturbed Vessel. This requires the character to provide both base items, a Tier 2 magic crystal catalyst, and a significant labor fee.
- Quest Rewards: High-ranking officials within factions, particularly those tied to espionage or the performing arts, may grant this item to a party that has accumulated enough Renown Points to be trusted with such a specialized tool.
- Legacy Recovery: Due to its origin story involving grieving artisans, the item can be found in the ruins of forgotten workshops or within the private collections of deceased bards in the floating cities or metropolitan skyscrapers.
- Possession Spoils: If a Tier 2 or higher possessed entity wielding the circlet is defeated, the item will drop where they perish. If the wielder was Tier 5, however, the item is destroyed upon their death, leaving only a soul crystal behind.
Commercial Venues and Valuation
Because Saṃsāra operates on a “seller’s market,” prices are fluid and heavily influenced by local availability and the vendor’s specialized knowledge.
- Elite Curio Enclaves: Located in the high-tier districts of island megacities, these shops specialize in “Psychic” and “Harmonic” tagged artifacts. The shopkeepers are often Tier 3 possessed characters who use their Mind’s Eye to verify the item’s authenticity.
- Buying Price: 2,500 – 4,000 Gold.
- Selling Price: Vendors here rarely offer more than 1,200 Gold, citing the niche nature of “Agitated” emotional magic.
- Guild Exchange Hubs: Within major port cities, the Guild of Technomancers may facilitate the trade of such items. These transactions are professional and strictly taxed at the local rate (typically 3% for a city sale).
- Buying Price: 3,000 Gold plus a favor or a specific magic crystal catalyst.
- Selling Price: 1,500 Gold (minus the 1% World Bank transaction fee if deposited).
- Black Market “Shadow Sinks”: Found in the dark cave systems or underwater population centers, these vendors ignore the ethical implications of “Emotion Influence” magic.
- Buying Price: 1,800 – 5,000 Gold. The price fluctuates wildly; a desperate seller might part with it cheaply, while a shrewd one will exploit a buyer’s urgent need.
- Selling Price: 800 – 2,000 Gold. High risk of being paid in non-metal “Drake Tokens” or counterfeit currency.
- Traveling “Mist-Walkers”: These are individual merchants who move between the 73 island countries via Air Ship. They are “Rule Breakers” who may value the item differently based on where they are traveling next.
- Trade Value: They often prefer bartering over coin, asking for rare “Elemental Tempest” essence or Tier 3 magic crystals in exchange for the circlet.
World Bank Considerations
Any transaction involving large sums of gold for this item is typically handled through a World Bank location. A character purchasing the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029 for 3,000 gold will see a 30 gold transaction fee deducted from their account. If the item is sold, the seller should be aware that physical coins have significant weight unless immediately placed into Extradimensional Storage or deposited back into the bank.
Tactical Manifestations and Environmental Roleplay of the Echo of the Agitated Dream
The use of the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029 requires the wielder to navigate a complex emotional landscape, balancing the inviting charm of the moonstone with the violent unrest of the internal storm. Because the item is a merged entity, the transition between defensive subtlety and offensive chaos is instantaneous, reflected in the shifting luminescence of the silver filigree.
Defensive Roleplay Applications
- Social Deflection and De-escalation: In tense political or social environments, the wielder relies on the Magnetic Presence passive. By remaining calm, they allow the circlet to project an aura of likeability that makes hostile NPCs hesitant to strike. Roleplaying this involves maintaining a serene posture while the circlet emits a soft, lavender-scented mist, subtly influencing the room to view the wielder as an ally or a person of high prestige.
- The Premonitory Blur: When an ambush is imminent, the Premonitory Storm passive causes the circlet to vibrate against the wielder’s brow. Defensively, the wielder can trigger the Tempestuous Allure ritual to shroud themselves in a 15-foot radius of silver rain and lightning. This disorienting environment provides total visual cover, allowing the wielder and their party to reposition or escape while the attackers are mesmerized by the ethereal beauty of the storm.
- Mental Fortification: Against foes who use psychic or emotional attacks, the wielder roleplays a sense of “centered agitation.” By focusing on the storm within the circlet rather than the external threat, the Dreamer’s Resilience allows them to shrug off charms or fears that would otherwise break a Tier 2 character’s resolve.
Offensive Roleplay Applications
- Psychological Sabotage: Offensively, the wielder can use Illusory Strife to appear as a target’s loved one in a state of extreme distress. The roleplay involves the wielder mimicking the target’s agitation, using the circlet’s resonance to bypass the victim’s logic and provoke a rash, impulsive decision. This is used to break the concentration of enemy casters or to bait a guardian into leaving their post.
- Formation Breaking: By utilizing the Tempestuous Allure offensively, the wielder drops a violent, localized storm into the center of an enemy group. The combination of the “Emotion Influence” tag and the silver lightning causes infighting. Foes caught in the 15-foot radius find their tactical coordination shattered as they become overwhelmed by a sudden, inexplicable urge to act on their most frustrated impulses.
- The Silver Fire Strike: For a direct offensive, the wielder channels their mana into a Silver Fire Discharge. Roleplaying this involves a sudden, sharp shout—the vocal conduit—as the moonstone flashes with the intensity of a collapsing star. This unresistible energy strike is used to prioritize high-value targets, dealing Tier 2 damage (Base+2d6) that sears through physical and magical armor alike.
Environmental Interactions
- Urban Megacities and Skyscrapers: Inside the high-tech, steam-powered metropolises, the circlet is a tool of social dominance. The wielder uses the “Social Shields” aspect to navigate the complex layers of the Monarchy and Guild Masters. In the narrow, dark cave systems or megacity alleys, the light of the circlet can be used to lead pursuers into illusory dead ends that smell of lavender and look like open sky.
- The Endless Ocean and Sailing Vessels: On the deck of a ship, the Tempestuous Allure is indistinguishable from the sudden magic storms common to Saṃsāra. The wielder can make an attacking vessel’s crew believe they have sailed into a magical squall, causing them to drop sails or change course in a panic, while the wielder’s ship remains unaffected by the phantom winds.
- Industrial Factories and Steam Hubs: Amidst the roar of shafts and gears, the auditory illusions of the circlet are most potent. The wielder can mask the sound of their party’s movement by layering the “Whispers of Night” over the mechanical clatter. Conversely, they can use the circlet to mimic the sound of a catastrophic steam boiler failure, causing workers and guards to evacuate an area in a frenzied, agitated rush.
- Wilderness and Uncharted Islands: In the moderate but unpredictable weather of the wilds, the circlet allows the wielder to blend their magic with the natural elements. The Whispers of Intuition provide clues about nearby feral beasts or hidden ruins, manifesting as recurring images in the wielder’s mind during a long rest, effectively acting as a supernatural compass in areas where normal navigation fails.

Perception of Activation:
- Sense of Sight
- User’s Perspective: The world briefly desaturates into grayscale before snapping back with hyper-vivid colors. A shimmering, pearlescent UI overlay appears in the peripheral vision, and the moonstone on the brow pulses with a rhythmic, silver light.
- Observer’s Perspective: They see a sudden, radiant flash of moonlight emanating from the wielder’s head. This is followed by a localized atmospheric distortion, where the air within 15 feet appears to ripple like water, accompanied by flickering miniature lightning bolts inside the moonstone.
- Positives: The visual splendor can mesmerize or distract targets, drawing their gaze away from the wielder’s allies.
- Negatives: The brilliance of the moonstone makes the wielder an unmistakable target in dark or low-light environments.
- Sense of Sound
- User’s Perspective: A deep, resonant hum vibrates through the skull, overlaid by the sound of distant, crashing waves and a faint, rhythmic chanting that matches the wielder’s heartbeat.
- Observer’s Perspective: A low, menacing rumble of distant thunder is heard, punctuated by a melodic, whispered lullaby that seems to come from all directions simultaneously.
- Positives: The auditory layer masks the sound of the wielder’s movement and can disorient the positioning of enemies.
- Negatives: The constant internal hum can make it difficult for the wielder to detect subtle environmental sounds or quiet speech.
- Sense of Touch
- User’s Perspective: A sharp, icy chill spreads from the forehead across the scalp, accompanied by a vibrating “pins and needles” sensation in the fingertips. The weight of the circlet seems to vanish.
- Observer’s Perspective: Nearby observers feel a sudden drop in temperature and a static charge in the air that causes hair to stand on end.
- Positives: The cooling effect can help the wielder remain calm and physically centered during high-stress encounters.
- Negatives: The static discharge may accidentally trigger sensitive magical equipment or startle nearby friendly animals.
- Sense of Smell
- User’s Perspective: A sudden, sharp scent of ozone and scorched silver, quickly followed by a heavy, comforting aroma of night-blooming jasmine and wet earth.
- Observer’s Perspective: A confusing mixture of scents; the smell of a coming mountain storm clashing with an inexplicable, floral perfume.
- Positives: Can evoke intense emotional nostalgia in targets, lowering their mental defenses.
- Negatives: The strong scent of ozone is a clear indicator of high-level magic use, alerting trained mages or sensitive beasts.
- Sense of Taste
- User’s Perspective: A cold, metallic tang on the back of the tongue that slowly transforms into the flavor of sweet, chilled nectar.
- Observer’s Perspective: Not applicable unless in direct physical contact.
- Positives: Provides a sensory confirmation of the item’s active status and mana flow.
- Negatives: The lingering metallic aftertaste can be nauseating during prolonged activation.
- Extra-Sensory Perception: Empathy
- User’s Perspective: The wielder feels a sudden “color-coded” wash of the emotions from everyone within the 15-foot radius. Frustration appears as jagged red pulses; hesitation as a dull, shifting gray.
- Observer’s Perspective: Targets may feel an inexplicable urge to confess their current feelings or find themselves mirroring the wielder’s focused agitation.
- Positives: Allows for near-perfect reading of a target’s intentions and emotional state.
- Negatives: The wielder is vulnerable to “Emotional Overload” if caught in a large crowd of highly distressed individuals.
- Extra-Sensory Perception: Sense of Time
- User’s Perspective: Time appears to dilate. The movement of falling rain or the swing of a blade seems to slow down, allowing for more deliberate thought.
- Observer’s Perspective: The wielder appears to move with a fluid, preternatural grace, as if they are reacting to events before they fully manifest.
- Positives: Grants the wielder additional “mental time” to plan complex actions during the 6-second turn.
- Negatives: When the effect ends, the wielder experiences a “temporal crash,” making the world feel jarringly fast and chaotic for several minutes.
- Extra-Sensory Perception: Sense of Presence
- User’s Perspective: A 360-degree mental map of all sentient minds in the vicinity. Even if someone is behind a wall or invisible, their “presence” is felt as a warm, humming node.
- Observer’s Perspective: Targets feel as though they are being intensely watched by an unseen entity, creating a sense of vulnerability and unease.
- Positives: Prevents the wielder from being ambushed or surprised by hidden foes.
- Negatives: The constant feeling of multiple “presences” can lead to paranoia or a sense of mental intrusion for the wielder.
Rite of the Unified Tempest: Crafting Recipe for the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029
- Items Merged
- Dream Magic 342 of Allure: One silver circlet with moonstone.
- Spatial Illusion 47 of the Disturbed Vessel: One ornate glass bottle containing a perpetual storm.
- Additional Materials Needed
- Tier 2 Magic Crystal: An apple-sized crystal to serve as the structural battery and catalyst for the tier escalation.
- Vial of Liquid Silver: High-purity silver refined by a master smith to facilitate the physical fusion.
- Essence of a Grieving Spirit: A rare emotional component used to bridge the gap between “Allure” and “Agitation.”
- Conductive Rune Inks: Specialized ink for drawing the magical circuits that will redirect the spatial storm into the moonstone.
- Tools Required
- Emotional Crucible: Necessary to contain and blend the conflicting emotional signatures without causing a catastrophic failure.
- Jeweler’s Forge: A precision forge capable of maintaining the exact temperatures required for magical metalwork.
- Mystic Etching Needle: For inscribing the new lightning-pattern filigree into the combined frame.
- Elemental Tongs: For the safe transfer of the storm essence from the glass vessel to the circlet.
- Skill Requirements
- Emotional Alchemy (Adept): To prevent the user from being consumed by the agitation of the vessel during the merge.
- Advanced Silversmithing: Proficiency in precision jewelry work and runic engraving.
- Mana Refinement: The ability to direct the flow of magic between the items and the catalyst crystal.
- Inscription Mastery: Necessary to ensure the merged item functions as a single physical anchor in a single gear slot.
- Crafting Steps
- Preparation of the Crucible: Place the Dream Magic 342 of Allure into the center of the Emotional Crucible. Surround it with the conductive rune inks and the Essence of a Grieving Spirit.
- The Fracturing of the Vessel: Using the Elemental Tongs, carefully shatter the Spatial Illusion 47 of the Disturbed Vessel over the circlet. The storm essence must not be allowed to dissipate; it must be immediately channeled into the moonstone using the Inscription Mastery skills.
- The Silver Infusion: Pour the liquid silver into the crucible. As it coats the circlet, use the Mystic Etching Needle to draw the jagged lightning filigree, physically binding the shards of the moonstone and the glass into a singular, reinforced structure.
- Catalyst Activation: Place the Tier 2 Magic Crystal at the base of the forge. Channel your mana through the crystal to initiate the tier escalation. The silver will glow a violent pearlescent white as the two items’ properties collapse into a single physical object.
- Runic Sealing: Inscribe the final sealing runes onto the inner band of the circlet. This ensures that the item will only occupy the Headwear Slot and that its physical form remains stable.
- Tempering in the Eye: The newly merged item must be quenched in a mixture of moonlight and storm water. As it cools, the user must perform the “Agitated” roleplay ritual, focusing on a moment of profound unrest to finalize the connection between the beauty of the circlet and the chaos of the storm.
Echo of Agitated Dream 1029
In the time of many backward sun-crossings, when the dirt-sphere of Saṃsāra was still having younger trees, there breathed a person of much metal-hitting and fire-shaping. This breathing person was called the Sorrowful Shape-Bender. The blood-pump inside the chest of the Sorrowful Shape-Bender was very heavy, like a stone at the bottom of the salt-water, because their most favorite breathing companion had stopped their own breathing and walked into the invisible sea of the sleeping souls. The Sorrowful Shape-Bender did not do a smiling for many moon-circles. The water of sad eyes was always dropping upon the dirt.
The Sorrowful Shape-Bender owned two things of great invisible power. In the left grasping-meat, they held the Shiny Head-Ring of Falsely Good Looking. The ancestors called this the Dream Magic 342 of Allure. It was made of bendy silver strings and had a night-sky-eye-rock in the middle. When placed upon the top-thinking-bone, it made the face of the wearer look very good to other eyes, and the air smelled like the purple sleep-flowers of the dark time. In the right grasping-meat, the Shape-Bender held the Transparent Dirt-Jar of Angry Sky. The ancestors called this the Spatial Illusion 47 of the Disturbed Vessel. Inside the see-through sand-wall of the jar, there was a noisy cloud-fire and the dropping water of much frustration. The angry wet-wind tried to escape but was trapped by the wood of the whispering tree.
The Sorrowful Shape-Bender spoke to the empty room of air, saying words of confusion. They asked the empty air why the Shiny Head-Ring made the face look calm and beautiful when the blood-pump was doing a violent cloud-fire inside the chest. The Shape-Bender possessed a great desire to make the outside look like the inside, to make the beautiful thing also the angry thing.
The Shape-Bender brought the heavy heat-bowl of feeling-melting to the center of the fire-shaping room. They placed the Shiny Head-Ring into the deepest part of the heat-bowl. Then, taking the metal pinching-sticks of the elemental moving, they lifted the Transparent Dirt-Jar of Angry Sky. With a loud breaking noise, like a large beast stepping on dry winter branches, the jar was made into many small sharp sands over the heat-bowl. The angry sky and the noisy cloud-fire attempted a running away, but the Shape-Bender poured the melting-silver water of high purity over the night-sky-eye-rock. The liquid silver trapped the storm.
Using a very pointy stick of mystic scratching, the Shape-Bender drew the zigzag lines of the cloud-fire into the cooling silver. They did not want two things. They demanded the universe give them one physical object that takes only one wearing-place on the body. They pushed an apple-sized rock of power into the bottom of the fire. The invisible magic juice of the Shape-Bender flowed into the rocks. The silver flashed with the extreme brightness of a falling star. The two old things were gone. The new thing was born. The bendy silver strings were now sharp lightning paths, and the night-sky-eye-rock was stained with the dark smoke of the angry wet-wind.
The Sorrowful Shape-Bender placed the one new physical object upon their top-thinking-bone. Immediately, the area of fifteen walking-steps became a place of high confusion. The sky-fire flashed from the moon-rock with a blinding silver light, but the rain that fell inside the room smelled strongly of the purple sleep-flowers. The Sorrowful Shape-Bender chanted the loud words of the ritual for more than six small-time-units, giving a piece of their own health-blood to the ring.
At this time, the spear-throwers of the next-door dirt-mound arrived to do a taking of the Shape-Bender’s belongings. They were the Not-Friends. They broke the wooden door and ran inside to do a killing. But when their walking-meats stepped into the fifteen walking-steps of the moon-rock storm, their top-thinking-bones were invaded by the heavy blood-pump feeling. The Not-Friends forgot their spear-throwing. The magic of the ring made the Shape-Bender look like the missing mothers and the angry fathers of the Not-Friends. The spear-throwers became filled with the rash making of decisions. The frustration of the wet-wind entered their chests. They began to shout at the empty air. They began to poke each other with their long sharp metals, weeping the water of sad eyes while the silver fire burned their sight.
The Shape-Bender did not do a hitting to the Not-Friends. The Shape-Bender only walked past the confused spear-throwers, stepping out of the fire-shaping room and walking toward the great salt-water. The head-ring pulsed with the silver noise and the dark smoke, masking the Shape-Bender’s walking-away. The breathing companion was still gone, and the head-ring did not bring them back from the invisible sea of sleeping souls.
Many moon-circles later, the wandering finders of lost things discovered the ring resting on the wet dirt near the salt-water. They saw the storm inside the rock and felt the purple sleep-flower air. They called it the Echo of the Agitated Dream 1029. They knew it was a thing of one slot, a thing of high tier, and a thing of great danger to the mind.
The moral of the story is that the most beautiful shining head-rocks are cooked in the dropping water of sad eyes, and the quiet, good-looking face very often hides the loud sky-fire of the invisible chest ghost.
