Silent Prowler 847

Clawed Bow of the Vanished Hunt

Lore:
From the union of the Chimerafeline’s grounded agility and the Deceivers’ shadow-woven craftsmanship emerged the Silent Prowler 847. Forged in secrecy by a wandering shadowsmith and a claw-dancer artisan, this hybrid artifact embodies both predator’s stride and hunter’s aim. Tales say the first wielder leapt between rooftops under moonlight, loosing arrows that vanished into nothingness, while their boots carved balance into stone. It is said the item “walks and hunts at once,” making its bearer both unseen stalker and unerring striker.

Description:
A pair of supple black-leather boots with razor-clawed soles seamlessly fused with a sleek recurve bow along the outer greaves. When inactive, the bow folds flush against the boots, runes hidden in the stitching. When activated, shadows ripple as the bow arcs outward, its string drawn from claw to claw, allowing the wielder to fire arrows as if conjured from darkness.

Stats (Tier 2):
• AC Bonus: +2
• Ranged Attack Bonus: +2
• Athletics (Climb/Balance): Advantage
• Damage: Bow (1d8 piercing + 1d6 shadow) or Clawed Kick (1d4 slashing)
• Slot: Worn (Boots/Bow hybrid — counts as a single item)

Passive Magics:
Predator’s Grip: Always gains advantage on checks related to climbing, balancing, or stealthy movement in dim light or shadowed terrain.
Silent String: Arrows fired make no sound and leave no visible trail in dim light or darkness. Enemies cannot determine the shooter’s location without magical detection.
Hunter’s Veil: While stationary in shadows, the wearer gains +2 to Stealth and may remain unseen unless directly observed with magical sight.

Active Magics:
Shadowstep Kick (2/day): As a bonus action, the wearer may teleport up to 20 feet within dim light/darkness and deliver a clawed strike (1d6 slashing + knock prone on failed save).
Eclipsing Arrow (2/day): Fire an arrow that passes through barriers up to 1 foot thick and ignores half-cover. Deals an extra 1d6 necrotic damage on hit.
Predator’s Frenzy (1/day): For 1 minute, gain advantage on all attack rolls made from stealth and add +1d6 damage once per turn (bow or claws).

Slot: Worn item (counts as boots with integrated bow; single slot only).

Item Hit Points (HP):
The Silent Prowler 847 possesses 40 hit points and AC 17 when specifically targeted. Magical effects are bound to the fusion of leather, claw, and darkwood; once the HP threshold is reduced to 0, the item’s magic is disabled, leaving only mundane boots with dull claws and a warped wooden bow frame.

Repair:
Minor Damage (1–10 HP lost): Repaired with mundane leather-stitching, claw-polishing, and bowstring replacement (requires leatherworking + fletching tools). Restores 1d10 HP.
Moderate Damage (11–30 HP lost): Requires shadow essence infusion and claw resetting at a forge under moonlight. A skilled craftsman (Leatherworking + Shadowcraft DC 15 equivalent) restores 2d10+5 HP.
Major Damage (31–39 HP lost): Demands rare reagents such as powdered obsidian and darkroot resin, plus a ritual binding over three nights. Master-level artisan required (DC 20 equivalent). Restores 3d10+10 HP.
Completely Disabled (0 HP): To restore magic, the Silent Prowler must undergo Reforging of the Vanished Hunt: claws must be quenched in shadow-beast ichor, darkwood reinforced in a moonlit forge, and stitched anew with Chimerafeline sinew thread. Only then can the hybrid enchantments be reawakened, returning the item to full HP and restoring all magical properties.

The Silent Prowler 847 is not a common good but a specialized hybrid relic, crossing the traditions of shadow-infused weaponry and predator-crafted footwear. In the world of Saṃsāra, its sale and acquisition reflect this rarity, and the shops that deal in such an item vary greatly depending on culture, environment, and clientele.

Roleplay in different environments:

Dense Forests & Jungles
Defense — Move like a ghost, hold the high ground: the wearer melts into dappled shade, setting an Eclipsing Arrow trap along a game trail or narrow ridge. Sensors of movement are unnecessary; the Silent Prowler’s Predator’s Veil keeps the bearer concealed while they watch for stalking predators or bandit scouts. Roleplay detail: the scout crouches on a mossy bough, breath measured, the boots finding purchase on slick bark while the bowstring hums almost silently; when an ambush spiderling slides from above the scout does not startle — they whistle a parable under their breath, nudge an arrow loose, and the forest answers with a single, vanished thud.
Offense — Hit-and-fade guerrilla tactics: use Shadowstep Kick to close, deliver a crippling kick to the flank of a monster, then pivot and fire an Eclipsing Arrow through cover to chop an escape route. Roleplay detail: after the first strike, the hunter slides between roots and rock, sending a second arrow that disappears into the gloom and finds the beast’s shoulder; allies drawn by the sound of struggle arrive to see only an arrow and a stalking silhouette receding into leaves.

Urban Streets & Rooftop Chases
Defense — Control choke points and escape lines: during a rooftop pursuit the bearer plants their weight, claws driving into tile, preventing being shoved; Silent Prowler’s Hunter’s Veil hides them in the nearest alley when lines of sight open. Roleplay detail: a city guard’s torch sweeps past and fails to catch them; the bearer tucks the bow to the calf, lets the pursuer pass, then steps from shadow to loose a silent shot that clips a grappling hook above, collapsing the chase.
Offense — Sniper-ambush & intimidation: climb to a concealed perch, pull a Silent String shot, then narrate a parable aloud to unsettle local gangs; the shot that cannot be traced sows confusion and panic in enemy ranks. Roleplay detail: in a crowded bazaar the bearer fires; merchants shout but no one can identify from where the shot came — rumors spread that a “shadow hunter” walks the rooftops, and rivals misdirect resources chasing ghosts.

Dungeons, Ruins & Forgotten Halls
Defense — Sensored perimeter and tactical retreat: place an invisible sensor where corridors converge, then fall back to chokepoint. The codex-like fusion of boot-and-bow lets the wearer anchor on slick stone and kite foes into traps. Roleplay detail: the party backs up into a narrow stair while the Silent Prowler, perched above, reads a short parable that steadies allies; the first intruder to climb is tripped by a pre-placed Eclipsing Arrow that now acts as a barrier.
Offense — Pierce illusions and bypass false walls: Eyes of Illumination reveal glamoured doors; Eclipsing Arrow ignores partial barriers so you strike the true heart of a guardian construct. Roleplay detail: an illusionary wall reveals a gap when the bearer fires through it; suddenly the party sees the real corridor beyond and storms it before the guardians can reset.

Open Plains & Battlefields
Defense — Early warning and line control: sensors placed at concealed posts give advance notice of flanking cavalry; Predator’s Veil lets a forward scout remain unseen until the enemy is within range for countermeasures. Roleplay detail: a watching ranger sends a quick signal through the party when the sensor pings; archers shift formation and bristle with ready shafts while the Silent Prowler moves to a ridge to watch with truer sight.
Offense — Focused precision on priority targets: on the battlefield, Eclipsing Arrow can pass light cover and target commanders or siege elements without revealing the shooter’s location. Roleplay detail: the bow’s shot takes down a war-engine’s exposed seam, forcing the engine crew to stop and repair while their lines falter.

Mountain Peaks, Cliffs & Skyports
Defense — Secure traverses and cliff-hold: claws provide purchase on sheer stone and wind-swept ledges; teleport-kick rescues allies from a slipping foothold. Roleplay detail: during a gale the bearer anchors with claws, throws a line, and Shadowstep Kicks back to haul a fallen companion to safety.
Offense — Long-range, untraceable shots from precarious perches: high-angle Eclipsing Arrow ignores gullies and weather barriers to strike rigging or aerial attackers. Roleplay detail: an enemy sky-crew attempts to board a zeppelin; a silent shaft severs a tether and sends boarding hooks adrift while the shooter vanishes into the air vents.

Ships, Rivers & Airship Decks
Defense — Night watches and deck sentries: the Silent Prowler keeps sentries below decks from noticing movements, holding hidden sensor points to warn of boarding parties. Roleplay detail: a midnight alarm would normally wake the whole watch; instead the bearer slips to a mast, awaits the sensor ping, and quietly reels up a boarding ladder to intercept.
Offense — Sabotage and targeted interdiction: Eclipsing Arrow through thin hull seams or rigging disables sails or breaks control lines without revealing the attacker’s origin. Roleplay detail: a single silent strike severs the main sheet; the crew scrambles, thinking the wind betrayed them.

Sacred Temples & Ritual Grounds
Defense — Guard the inner sanctum: Hunters of faith who guard relics wear it to avoid desecration; Hunter’s Veil prevents profane eyes from reading a ritual in progress. Roleplay detail: during an illicit attempt at sacrilege, the bearer stands between the doorway and the altar, the Codex’s glow modest and controlled, and the intruders find their path blocked by unseen barriers and whispered parables that fracture their resolve.
Offense — Rhetorical and spiritual strikes: reading a parable aloud while the item is lit can sway crowds or disarm ritualists socially before force is used. Roleplay detail: in a doctrinal dispute, the wearer opens the Silent Prowler and recites a tale with uncanny timing; witnesses pause, allegiances shift, and adversaries falter under public doubt.

Deathly Zones & Hazardous Environs
Defense — Avoid engagement and enable escape: in places where armor is halved or combat is suicidal, the Silent Prowler’s highest value is prevention — sensors warn, Hunter’s Veil conceals, Shadowstep Kick removes bearer from a fatal area. Roleplay detail: the wearer senses the deathly pulse ahead and tucks under a ruined arch; the party reroutes rather than face impossible hits.
Offense — Last-ditch disruption: when trapped, Predator’s Frenzy gives a brief window of lethal precision to clear a path for retreat. Roleplay detail: with everything on the line, the bearer’s shots find joints in unnatural foes and the group flees through the gap.

Crowds, Courts & Social Intrigue
Defense — Protection through subtlety: worn as an accessory to diplomacy, the Silent Prowler hides the bearer’s nervous ticks and prevents pickpockets from getting close while giving micro-adjustments to posture and step. Roleplay detail: the envoy moves through a court, boots silent, and sensors near doorways let them know when someone approaches with hostile intent.
Offense — Performative intimidation and political theater: a parable delivered with gold-threaded glances and a barely-heard bowstring can turn an audience; the idea of an unseen enforcer has political weight. Roleplay detail: during negotiations the envoy lets a silent shaft embed shallowly in a tapestry behind the opposition — no one is harmed, but the message is clear; concessions follow.

Stealth Operations & Assassination Runs
Defense — Redundancy and contingency: Silent Prowler supports escape plans; if the first infiltration is detected, Shadowstep Kick buys distance while sensors announce incoming reinforcements. Roleplay detail: a breach triggers an internal code phrase; the wearer vanishes into shadow and meets the team two blocks away.
Offense — Ghost-shot doctrine: arrange multiple sensors down approach corridors, time disparaging Eclipsing Arrows to disable sentries and escape routes, and use Predator’s Frenzy to take multiple high-value targets before alarms can coordinate. Roleplay detail: the assassin walks a silent path through a compound, each arrow invisible until the corpse collapses, and by the time the alarm sounds the assassin is already folding into the next shadow.

Complications & Roleplay Hooks (always present in use)
• Overwhelm & Sensory Stress: prolonged activation increases disorientation; characters may roleplay headaches, disjointed dreams, or an unshakable sense of being watched. This can strain social trust and cause hesitation at crucial moments.
• Visible Cues that Betray Stealth: in bright-light or communal spaces the faint shimmer of active magics may attract attention; roleplay decisions over when to activate become tense and tactical.
• Moral & Cultural Consequences: some temples or guilds consider hybrid items profane; a bearer displaying the Silent Prowler publicly can draw ire, legal action, or demands for inspection. Roleplay scenarios include summoned trials, guild hearings, or clandestine bargains to keep the item.
• Addiction of Effectiveness: success with invisible shots and perfect escapes can tempt reckless play; roleplay scenes may explore the wearer’s growing reliance, paranoia, or estrangement from companions.

Usage Beats for GMs and Players (how to narrate it)
• Show not tell sensory change: describe the chill of the grip, the way light seems to slide off a boot, the silence where a string should sing.
• Make sensors meaningful: use pings as roleplay beats — a crackle in the corner of silence, a sudden hush in a market — not just mechanical alerts.
• Let parables shape scenes: reading a short parable can impose a social modifier or create a one-scene advantage; let words change hearts as much as arrows change bodies.
• Force tradeoffs: powerful shots and teleports cost charges or risk Overwhelm; narrate the mental toll as well as the mechanical cooldown.

Perception of Activation:

User’s Perspective

  • Sight: The boots and bow shimmer with a smoky, shadow-laced aura, claw tips and bowstring glowing faintly with shifting violet runes. Shadows ripple outward with every movement, blending seamlessly with the user’s form.
  • Sound: A low hum like a tightened bowstring resonates, paired with faint scratching like claws dragging on stone. With each step or drawn arrow, a whispering undertone follows, almost like the bow and boots breathe in unison.
  • Touch: The boots feel alive, their claws flexing slightly in sync with the user’s muscles. The bowstring feels cool and smooth, yet taut with latent energy. A vibration runs up the arms and legs, uniting motion between weapon and footing.
  • Smell: A faint scent of damp earth and scorched leather rises, mingling with a subtle metallic tang of shadow-forged magic.
  • Taste: The air itself seems flavored with iron and bitter night air, like breathing through a cold cave mouth before a storm.
  • Extra-Sensory (Mind’s Eye): The user perceives potential pathways through light and shadow, instinctively knowing how to move, climb, and strike. Arrows and kicks feel pre-aligned with their targets as if guided by unseen geometry.
  • Extra-Sensory (Emotional Resonance): The user feels a surge of predator’s focus—a perfect balance of hunter’s calm and the thrill of striking from concealment.

Observer’s Perspective

  • Sight: Claws shimmer with violet light while arrows vanish into darkness mid-flight. The user’s outline blurs when moving, their shadow extending unnaturally with each step.
  • Sound: A faint hum, occasionally punctuated by a quick whisper as arrows release. Observers note unnerving silence where a bowstring should snap or boots should clatter.
  • Touch: Those close enough feel faint static tingling in the air as if charged with unseen force.
  • Smell: A barely noticeable trace of scorched leather or ozone lingers near the user.
  • Taste: None directly, though particularly sensitive beings may sense the same metallic tang faintly.
  • Extra-Sensory (Intuition): Observers feel a prickling at the back of the neck, a predator’s presence pressing from the shadows.
  • Extra-Sensory (Empathy): The aura projects a mixture of menace and awe—both warning and inspiration to allies or intimidation to foes.

Positives

  • Heightened stealth and precision; sensory enhancement for both climbing and ranged attacks.
  • Strong psychological effect: allies feel bolstered, enemies unnerved.
  • Shadows act as both cover and conduit, amplifying offensive strikes and defensive evasion.

Negatives

  • The aura’s visual shimmer can betray the user in bright environments.
  • The whispers and hum may distract or unsettle the wielder over prolonged use.
  • Extra-sensory overload risks fatigue or disorientation in chaotic environments.
  • The predator’s resonance can intimidate allies as much as enemies if not controlled.

Recipe of the Stalking Vigilant Shadow 947

Items Merged:

Additional Materials Needed:

  • Obsidian Fang from a deep-shadow beast (to fuse claw and bow essence)
  • Darkwood Resin (used to bind leather and wood with shadow energy)
  • Moonlit Ink (crafted from distilled lunar dew and powdered silver, for runes)
  • Chimerafeline Tendon (reinforced as hybrid bowstring)
  • Vial of Echoing Shadow (collected from a chaos dungeon, stabilizes merged magic)
  • Hunter’s Ember (a coal taken from a fire lit with predator’s blood, symbolizes vigilance and aggression)

Tools Required:

  • Runescriber’s Kit (to etch merged sigils of stealth and vigilance)
  • Moonlit Forge (to temper both claw metal and bow limbs under lunar cycles)
  • Leatherworker’s Awl and Stitching Needles (to secure enchanted leather to weapon grip and boots)
  • Obsidian Carving Knife (to shape claws and embed essence channels)
  • Binding Brazier (to mix resin, ink, and shadow essence before infusion)

Skill Requirements:

  • Advanced Woodworking (to merge darkwood bow and claw components without structural failure)
  • Mastery in Leatherworking (to rework Chimerafeline leathers into grip and harness)
  • Adept Runescribing (to unify bow and boot runes without backlash)
  • Intermediate Shadow Magic (to stabilize shadow energy flows across weapon and armor properties)
  • Proficiency in Predator’s Rituals (unique Chimerafeline techniques to bind tools with instinctual ferocity)

Crafting Steps:

  1. Preparation of Components
    • Lay the Clawed Boots and Shadowstrike Bow side by side in a circle of ground ash and moonstone dust. Place the Obsidian Fang between them. Whisper the binding incantation in Chimerafeline tongue to awaken the items’ latent essence.
  2. Resin Infusion
    • Melt Darkwood Resin in the Binding Brazier until viscous. Pour over the claws of the boots and along the limbs of the bow. As the resin seeps, it forms runic channels uniting the two items.
  3. Rune Inscription
    • With Moonlit Ink, inscribe hybrid sigils onto both boot soles and bow limbs. These runes must mirror one another—each claw rune reflecting a bow rune—so that energy flows seamlessly between them.
  4. Binding the Tendon String
    • Replace the bowstring with the Chimerafeline Tendon. As it is affixed, draw the tendon across the claws of the boots so that the resonance fuses grip with strike. This step requires precise chanting to prevent backlash.
  5. Shadow Stabilization
    • Break the Vial of Echoing Shadow over the items. A dark mist envelops them, and their outlines blur. Maintain concentration for 10 minutes while tracing the Obsidian Fang across the engravings. The shadow energy binds both items as one.
  6. Ember Tempering
    • Place both items together into the Moonlit Forge with the Hunter’s Ember. As the ember burns, strike the fused gear three times with an obsidian hammer. This tempers the magic, sealing defensive vigilance with offensive predation.
  7. Final Invocation
    • Chant the Predator’s Vigil litany under the open night sky. As the last word is spoken, the bow and boots shimmer and dissolve into a single unified item—the Stalking Vigilant Shadow 947.

Tale of Stalking Vigilant Shadow 947

In the beginning of night, when shadow walked longer than the sun, and beast and hunter were not yet apart, there came a time when claws alone did not climb high enough, and arrows alone did not strike far enough. This tale, spoken in crumbling script and broken tongue, tells of a joining that made one thing from two, though many words have been lost in the cracks of years.

It is said there lived the Claw-Walker, a Chimerafeline whose feet gripped stone as roots grip the mountain. He was swift but hunted by silence; though his claws could climb, they could not reach the enemy that perched in the far branches of sky. His shadow was strong but too short to strike beyond his leap.

Far away walked the Bow-Singer, a hunter of dusk. His arrows made no sound, vanishing into night, yet his steps faltered on slick stone, and his body failed when walls rose sheer against him. He struck far but could not flee quick; he pierced but could not climb.

Both met in the ruined forest of shifting roots, where shadow-beast dwelled, a thing of teeth unseen and eyes unclosed. Many had fallen to its stalk, for it struck from silence and disappeared into gloom. Alone, Claw-Walker slipped on moss and fell, and Bow-Singer’s arrow bent against unseen skin. Together, still they failed.

It was then, as story says, that the Watcher Eternal—the great eye of the night, who hears even when no sound is made—looked upon their struggle and offered a whisper. “One path breaks, but two paths bind. To catch the beast of shadow, you must become as it is: claws that hold, bow that vanishes.”

So Claw-Walker tore the claws from his own boots, dripping with blood of stone and beast, and laid them before Bow-Singer. Bow-Singer cut his bowstring, still humming with silence, and laid it across the claws. They burned both in a fire kindled from no wood, only from the howl of the shadow-beast itself. The fire did not consume—it merged, and from ash arose the Stalking Vigilant Shadow: boots with claws sharp as oath, bow bent and silent, bound as one.

With this, Claw-Walker stepped high into trees, and Bow-Singer loosed without fail. Yet in the telling, no difference is left between them—two became one hunter. Some say they were swallowed by the item itself, their lives written into the claws and string, so that every who dons it hears whispers of both voices.

The beast of shadow was hunted then, or perhaps it was never slain, only bound into the item, for still the claws scratch when no foot moves, and the bow hums when no hand pulls. Travelers say that in deepest night, if you wear the Stalking Vigilant Shadow, you may hear the lost arguments of Claw-Walker and Bow-Singer, bickering like brothers, yet guiding every step and shot.

And so the item passes, sometimes found, sometimes vanished, as though it hunts its own bearer, seeking the next who will walk and strike with balance of foot and flight.

Moral of the Story: From two halves of weakness, unity forged strength. Yet beware—when shadow is bound, hunter and hunted are never wholly apart.
