But a shadow fell, a blight unforeseen, and his kin and kind, all were gleaned. His city crumbled, his people no more, only ashes remained to deplore.

Maelis, they say, wept rivers then. Not for self, but for all lost men. His heart did crack, his spirit did fray, his magic turned dark, a grim display. He found a stone, smooth and cold, infused with grief a hundredfold.  He carved upon it, with tears and might, symbols of sorrow, a desolate sight.

This was the first, the Rune of Bleak Weeping, they call it. Born from despair, forever sleeping, until a hand, greedy or brave, would awaken its power, from sorrow’s grave.
