Lore
Across the high valleys, wind-scoured terraces, and rose-gardens of Badakhshan and the Pamir passes of Saṃsāra, Sufi dervishes and mystical poets developed the sacred doctrine of Ishq-e-Haqīqī (Divine and Absolute Love) and the spiritual station of Shawq (burning spiritual longing). In this contemplative tradition, the act of enticement is stripped of vulgar deceit; instead, it is understood as manifesting the irresistible gravity of divine beauty (Jamāl). Just as the moth is drawn to the flame (Shama wa Parwāna) without thought of self-preservation, the mortal heart naturally turns toward any presence that reflects the luminous harmony of the Beloved.
When the violet eye of VaporSphere swells in the noon-sky, warping mortal humors and inciting crude brawls or reckless ambition, the practitioners of the contemplative orders sought ways to redirect this volatile energy away from bloodshed. They understood that violent fury and predatory greed are simply corrupted, misplaced forms of longing—souls starving for beauty and peace, yet expressing their hunger through the edge of the sword.
Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil was created for tier 1 avatars whose roleplay centers on enticement, courtly fascination, diplomatic deflection, and the art of drawing the eyes and wills of others. Worn across the lower face, this focus elevates the bearer’s presence into a living sanctuary of alluring grace. It allows an avatar to draw the gaze and blades of hostile combatants away from wounded companions, disarm suspicion in treacherous salons, and evoke a quiet, captivating wonder that renders cruelty intolerable to those who behold it.
Description
Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil is a diaphanous, flowing face-veil and temple-circlet measuring fourteen inches in width and twenty inches in length, tailored to rest lightly across the bridge of the nose and drape down across the neck, clavicles, and upper chest. The textile is woven from split raw mulberry silk and gossamer golden flax, kettle-steeped in a dye bath of dried wild pomegranate blossoms, crushed saffron stigmas, and madder root to produce a translucent, iridescent blush resembling the first flush of an alpine sunrise. The fabric is light enough to flutter with the wearer’s breath, yet woven with high tensile strength that resists snagging and fraying.
The veil is anchored to the temples by delicate, articulated chains of cold-hammered native silver lined with vegetable-tanned mountain gazelle suede. Embroidered along the upper border and nasal bridge in fine annealed silver wire are calligraphic verses of love and intricate motifs of fluttering moths circling a blooming desert rose. Centered directly over the bridge of the nose, held in a four-prong silver filigree setting, is a flat, teardrop-shaped cabochon of natural Badakhshan spinel—known in the mountain dialects as Lāl-i Badakhshān—measuring one and a half inches in length and glowing with a deep raspberry-rose translucence. Concealed within a hollowed cavity on the reverse of the spinel is an uncut, coin-sized Tier 1 Magic Crystal glowing with an internal peach-and-amber core, bedded securely in a fragrant paste of purified mountain beeswax, aged ambergris, and crushed musk grains.
Suspended along the lower hem of the blush silk are twenty-four tiny, teardrop-shaped silver sequins and teardrop beads of translucent pink tourmaline that catch the light with every tilt of the head. Hanging from the right temple chain is a miniature rock-crystal vial fitted with a silver-wrapped cork stopper, containing concentrated attar of wild mountain tea-roses. Suspended from the left temple chain is an unbroken rosary loop of ninety-nine miniature prayer beads lathe-turned from fragrant rosewood and dense mutton-fat jade, divided into three equal sections of thirty-three by cold-forged silver spacer discs. Whenever the wearer speaks, turns, or takes a measured breath, the silver droplets and spacer discs brush against one another with a delicate, crystalline shiver-chime, setting a rhythmic, mesmerizing cadence that lulls the senses and draws every eye in the room.
Detailed Stats
- Item Classification and Tier Rank:
- Tier Rank: Tier 1 item.
- Rarity Rating: Common rarity.
- Operational Classification: Worn focus and mystical ceremonial face-veil.
- Specific Slot Allocation:
- Designated Slot: Face Slot.
- Slot Consumption: Consumes exactly one gear slot of the nineteen allowable worn gear slots for a tier 1 avatar.
- Integration Form Factor: Rests comfortably over the lower half of the face from the nasal bridge down across the throat; leaves the eyes completely unobstructed and allows unhindered speech, vocal chanting, potion consumption, and normal breathing.
- Defensive Value:
- Armor Check (AC) Modifier: Grants a +1 Armor Check bonus to the wearer.
- Mechanical Boundary Compliance: Complies strictly with the structural limitation restricting defensive bonuses to no more than 3 Armor Check points per item tier level.
- Defensive Application: The reinforced silver chains, dense silk borders, and spinel nose-piece turn aside stiletto thrusts, garrotes, blown dart needles, and slashing blades directed at the nose, mouth, throat, and carotid arteries.
- Structural Durability and Item Hit Points:
- Resilience Score: Base resilience rating of 10.
- Total Item Hit Points Formula: Maximum item hit points equal the wearing avatar’s maximum health points plus 10 (calculated as base resilience 10 multiplied by tier level 1).
- Degradation Mechanics: If subjected to direct physical sunder attacks, slashing daggers, or open flame, the veil becomes broken and inert if reduced to half its total hit point pool or lower. If reduced to zero hit points, the silk shreds, the silver chains snap, the spinel splits along its internal planes, and the tier 1 crystal fractures into non-magical gray powder.
- Attunement Ward: When struck while attuned, a successful attack unattunes the item rather than dealing direct damage to its hit points; subsequent hits to the unattuned veil deal normal damage against its hit point pool. Damaged states must be repaired before re-attunement can occur.
- Attunement Requirements and Handling:
- Attunement Method: Simple Attunement.
- Time Requirement: Requires one continuous minute of seated contemplation while holding the spinel cabochon between the thumb and forefinger, breathing in rhythmic cycles through the scented silk, and reciting the contemplative formulas of divine allure and universal affection (al-Wadūd) to harmonize the crystal matrix with the avatar’s personal mana flow.
- Capacity Usage: Occupies one of the avatar’s ten allowable active attuned item slots.
- Single Bearer Bond: Can be bonded to only one avatar at a time; attempts by another creature to attune immediately break the existing bond, causing the original bearer to feel a sudden cooling sensation and the scent of withered flowers across their cheeks.
- Valuation and Mercantile Context:
- Suggested Baseline Value: 40 to 55 Silver pieces (equivalent to 80 to 110 nickels, or 4 to 5.5 gold coins).
- Economic Dynamics: Operates under a sellers’ market with buyer beware principles. In royal court chanceries, diplomatic missions, high-end pleasure gardens, and monastic tea-houses, it commands rapid interest and premium prices; among illiterate hill-trappers or heavy iron-miners, it is treated merely as an extravagant silk scarf.
Multiple Passives Magic
- Passive 1: Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze (Alluring Telemetry):
- While the veil is attuned and worn, the embedded peach-amber crystal projects an intuitive social and emotional map directly into the avatar’s Mind’s Eye.
- When observing sentient humanoids, courtiers, or hostile combatants, the user perceives soft rose-gold and carmine filaments outlining the desires, hidden fixations, emotional vulnerabilities, and fluctuating attractions of individuals up to thirty feet away.
- The avatar gains an inherent advantage on all skill checks involving Persuasion, Deception, Performance, Etiquette, and rolls made to draw the focus, curiosity, or desire of onlookers. In social assemblies, the wearer intuitively understands what gesture, glance, or topic will most effectively entice a target into prolonged conversation.
- Passive 2: Purity of the Enamored Breath (Aromatic Seduction):
- The body warmth of the wearer gently heats the ambergris-musk bedding and the rose-attar vial, releasing an invisible, continuous two-foot envelope of sweet, calming fragrance.
- The avatar gains complete immunity to nauseating sewer stenches, airborne corpse decay, toxic swamp gases, and inhaled airborne irritants.
- Creatures standing within five feet of the avatar experience a subtle calming effect; aggressive impulses soften, and hostile NPCs suffer a -10% penalty on hostile surprise checks and sudden attacks directed at the wearer, hesitant to ruin something so fragrant and visually captivating.
- Passive 3: Sinuous Allure (Kinetic Fascinate):
- The aerodynamic drape of the silk and the rhythmic micro-sway of the silver sequins create an optical distraction that blurs the precise location of the wearer’s head and throat.
- Ranged projectile attacks, stiletto thrusts, and thrown darts directed at the wearer’s upper body suffer a 10% miss chance as incoming weapons are subconsciously pulled toward the fluttering hem rather than vital targets.
- The avatar gains advantage on checks made to resist being provoked, taunted, intimidated, or compelled to surrender.
Multiple Activable Magics
- Activable Magic 1: Somatic Enticement Cadence (The Call of the Beloved):
- Action Cost: Consumes exactly one action during the avatar’s turn.
- Casting Modality: Somatic casting lasting less than six seconds, requiring the avatar to lightly touch the spinel cabochon with their fingertips, part the veil with a soft intake of breath, and vocalize a melodic, yearning syllable of affection (Yā Wadūd).
- Operational Effect: The tier 1 crystal discharges an expanding, luminous pulse of warm peach-and-rose light across a 30-foot radius.
- Functional Utility: Up to three hostile creatures of the avatar’s choice within the area must make a Willpower or Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they are enraptured: for ten minutes, their attention is completely fixated upon the avatar. They refuse to attack any of the avatar’s companions, moving deliberately toward the avatar while lowering their weapons, desiring only to parley, listen, or stand near them. If the avatar or their allies attack an enraptured target, the charm immediately breaks.
- True Name Interaction: If the true personal name or ancestral title of a target is spoken during the vocalization, the saving throw against this enticement suffers a -2 penalty, and the effective range expands to 60 feet.
- Activable Magic 2: Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud:
- Action Cost: Consumes exactly one action during the avatar’s turn, or can be triggered as an immediate reaction when the avatar or an adjacent ally is targeted by an attack.
- Casting Modality: Silent casting executed entirely without vocalization, triggered by directed mental focus and crossing both hands over the veiled chest.
- Operational Effect: Operating under the standard silent casting reduction of 25% potency, the veil projects an instantaneous refractive spiritual mist across a 20-foot radius centered on the avatar.
- Tactical Application: The mist obscures lines of sight and blurs physical silhouettes with shimmering pink-and-amber mirages. Incoming ranged attacks, spell volleys, and explosive bursts suffer a 25% damage reduction, with the diverted force dissipating harmlessly into the illusory shimmer as strikes are seduced away from biological targets.
- Activable Magic 3: Ritual Chanting of the Ninety-Nine Yearnings (The Samā’ of Longing):
- Action Cost: Consumes one action to initiate, followed by continuous execution for greater than six seconds (ten continuous minutes), classifying the casting fully as a Ritual.
- Casting Modality: Ritual casting requiring the avatar to pace a slow, spiraling circle around an assembly hall, courtyard, or campsite while continuously chanting the mystical ghazals of longing, sliding the ninety-nine rosewood and jade beads through their fingers.
- Operational Effect: Gaining the full ritual chanting benefit of up to a +25% increase in magical potency, the rite infuses the enclosed space (up to fifty feet across) with an aura of spiritual longing for twenty-four hours.
- Area Enticement & Peace: Any creature entering the sanctum must make a Willpower save or find all thoughts of murder, violence, and betrayal suppressed by an overwhelming, bittersweet melancholy and longing for peace. Allies within the sanctum gain a +25% bonus to morale thresholds and advantage on saving throws against fear, despair, and mental domination.
- Concentration Risk: Taking damage during the ten-minute spiraling ritual forces an immediate concentration saving throw; failure breaks the rhythmic cadence, wasting the mana and leaving the air smelling of burnt silk.

Commercial Channels, Mercantile Establishments, and Regional Valuation of Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil
- Courtly Silk Ateliers, Perfumed Bazaars, and Dervish Lodges of Badakhshan:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Across the high terraced valleys, rose-cultivating oasis towns, and river basins of Badakhshan and the Pamir passes of Saṃsāra, fine devotional and courtly attire is traded within perfumed silk ateliers, monastic textile lodges, and specialized weaver arcades. These establishments are housed within airy, cedar-timbered pavilions shaded by awnings of dyed flax and raw silk, built around central courtyards featuring carved soapstone fountains spouting cool mountain water. Display tables of polished walnut and camphor wood hold brass-framed glass cases displaying delicate veils, embroidered turbans, and filigree jewelry. The air is heavy with the warm, restorative fragrances of distilled Damask rose-attar, burning sandalwood chips, raw musk, dried pomegranate rinds, and steeped saffron tea. The acoustic environment is muted and contemplative, filled with the gentle, rhythmic hum of hand-spindle whorls, the soft rustle of silk bolts being measured, and the distant, measured chanting of dervish weavers reciting verses of divine longing (ishq).
- Acquisition and Buying Procedures: Purchasing Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil in a traditional silk lodge requires social decorum and an evaluation of character rather than a crude display of wealth. The master weaver or lodge elder (ustād) observes the prospective buyer’s posture, gaze, and vocal cadence over a ceremonial cup of cardamom tea. Using the Mind’s Eye, the elder scans the avatar’s tier rating and energetic channels to ensure their personal mana can harmonize with the delicate peach-and-amber resonance of the embedded Tier 1 crystal without inducing chaotic emotional surges that could overheat the ambergris-musk bedding or scorch the gossamer silk weave. Payment is accepted in weight-verified silver coinage, trade promissory notes issued by recognized weavers’ guilds, or raw lapidary and botanical materials such as uncut spinels, raw silk skeins, or dried saffron stigmas.
- Purchasing Cost: Because the baseline materials—mulberry silk, golden flax, Badakhshan spinel, native silver, and wild mountain rose-attar—are sourced and refined within regional alpine networks, retail pricing remains anchored to standard production metrics. In these regional guild lodges, the veil sells for 40 to 55 silver pieces (equivalent to 80 to 110 nickels, or 4 to 5.5 gold coins). Avatars holding verified credentials with the Weavers’ Collective, the Guild of Courtiers, or an allied dervish order receive the standard faction discount of 10% multiplied by their tier (a 10% reduction for a tier 1 avatar), reducing the acquisition cost to between 36 and 49.5 silver pieces.
- Liquidation and Selling Dynamics: When an avatar sells a veil back to a guild atelier, the resident jeweler and textile conservator subject the focus to meticulous inspection. The blush silk is tested for fiber dry-rot, water staining, or chemical scorching; the silver filigree chains and sequential drop-droplets are examined for bends or metal fatigue; and the Badakhshan spinel cabochon is scrutinized under magnification to verify that the internal Tier 1 crystal has sustained no fractures along its cleavage planes. Adhering to Saṃsāra’s baseline merchant economy, the lodge pays 10% of the item’s intrinsic value multiplied by the seller’s character tier (yielding a 10% payout for a tier 1 avatar, or 4 to 5.5 silver pieces). Funds are transferred directly to the seller’s World Bank ledger via telegraph, minus the statutory 1% telegraph processing fee rounded up to the nearest copper.
- Imperial Diplomatic Chanceries, Palace Salons, and Courtly Exchanges:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Within administrative capital cities, sovereign treaty courts, and grand diplomatic embassies, high-society regalia is acquired through chartered courtly salons and chancery purveyors. Located within palatial marble complexes featuring mosaic tile floors, vaulted stucco arches, and velvet-upholstered divans, these salons cater to royal ambassadors, court heralds, noble matchmakers, and high-ranking envoys. Servants in silk livery present exquisite garments on silver trays, while incense braziers diffuse resinous benzoin and sweet ambergris to mask the urban dust outside.
- Acquisition and Buying Procedures: Purchasing the veil within an imperial exchange requires presenting official civil documentation or diplomatic letters of introduction, alongside a solvency audit conducted via the Mind’s Eye to verify an active World Bank account. The veil is displayed in a velvet-lined rosewood casket accompanied by an inked parchment manifest bearing the imperial seal of the Ministry of Protocol, certifying the carat weight of the spinel, the purity of the native silver wire, the grade of the attar vial, and the exact harmonic attunement frequency of the internal crystal.
- Purchasing Cost: Marked up by interstate import duties, diplomatic luxury assessments, and the mandatory 3% municipal sales tax, prices in metropolitan court salons range from 75 to 110 silver pieces (7.5 to 11 gold coins). Avatars presenting a verified commission from the Imperial Diplomatic Corps, the Ministry of Ceremonies, or an accredited sovereign embassy apply their 10% tier 1 discount, bringing the final cost to between 67.5 and 99 silver pieces.
- Liquidation and Selling Dynamics: An avatar liquidating the veil at an imperial chancery must submit the item to rigorous provenance verification. Chancery appraisers review municipal telegraph registries to confirm the item is unencumbered by royal confiscation orders, lingering Banishment Marks, or unresolved inheritance liens. Following standard civil banking protocol for a tier 1 avatar, the chancery pays between 7.5 and 11 silver pieces, credited directly to the avatar’s verified bank balance to ensure compliance with imperial revenue audits.
- Subterranean Pleasure Dens, Cabaret Fences, and Clandestine Seduction Vaults:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Hidden within the labyrinthine underbelly of port cities, entertainment quarters, or disreputable canal districts, illicit fences trade in stolen diplomatic regalia, espionage tools, and high-tier courtesan foci. These clandestine establishments operate behind heavy ironwood doors disguised as private gaming clubs, subterranean tea-parlors, or backrooms of dance halls. The air is warm and dense with the scent of spiced wine, stale pipe smoke, heavy musk, and burnt tallow candles, muffled by thick wool tapestries hung to dampen acoustic eavesdropping by municipal bailiffs.
- Acquisition and Buying Procedures: Entry requires an introduction from a trusted courtesan, broker, or syndicate runner, or the presentation of a specific engraved copper counter. Items sold here frequently originate from aristocratic estate thefts, palace mutinies, or the plunder recovered when fallen tier 1 avatars dissolve into purple sparks upon violent death. Transactions are conducted strictly in hard, untraceable physical currency—clipped silver coins, raw bullion ingots, or unrefined gemstones. Commercial bank transfers and telegraph ledgers are barred to evade financial tracing.
- Purchasing Cost: Clandestine fences employ an opportunistic pricing structure driven by the buyer’s immediate necessity. If the dealer knows the customer requires an enticement focus for a high-stakes infiltration, an aristocratic blackmail scheme, or a rapid escape from suspicious authorities, the price climbs to between 85 to 135 silver pieces (8.5 to 13.5 physical gold coins). Guild certificates and artisan discount tokens are rejected.
- Liquidation and Selling Dynamics: Illicit brokers provide immediate, no-questions-asked cash payouts for veils acquired through covert operations or street violence. If the fence has an immediate buyer among an espionage ring, courtesan guild, or black-market syndicate, they may offer an inflated payout of 8 to 12 silver pieces in physical coin. Conversely, if the seller is bloodstained, panicked, or visibly pursued by town watchmen, the fence will drive the offer down to as little as 2 to 3 silver coins.
- Frontier Oasis Caravanserais, Silk Road Bivouacs, and Nomadic Fairs:
- Operating Environment and Physical Layout: Along trans-continental trade corridors, desert oasis crossings, and high-altitude mountain waystations, commerce in luxury textiles takes place from large striped wool pavilions, reinforced freight wagons, and ancient stone caravanserais (ribats). Caravaneers arrange drop-leaf folding tables displaying chests of raw spices, bolts of brocade, copper kettles, and leather bags of dried herbs. The surroundings carry the smells of camel sweat, dry sand, pungent leather saddles, bitter mountain juniper smoke, and roasted dried mulberries.
- Acquisition and Buying Procedures: Transactions at a frontier caravanserai are informal and practical. The caravan factor negotiates across a wooden camp chest, keeping a loaded repeating crossbow within easy reach. The buyer inspects the veil, running the blush silk through their fingers to test weave density and shaking the temple chains to hear the clear acoustic shiver-chime of the silver sequins. Because these outposts operate in unincorporated frontier territories outside municipal borders, municipal sales taxes do not apply, though regional transit tolls remain in effect.
- Purchasing Cost: In frontier caravanserais and nomadic waystations, Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil sells for 48 to 68 silver pieces. Factors routinely accept high-value trade commodities in place of coin, accepting raw mountain spinels, uncut jade pebbles, bales of raw wool, refined copper ingots, or biological essences gathered from wild fauna using fluid collectors.
- Liquidation and Selling Dynamics: Caravaneers operate with limited hard coinage and favor items that can be transported easily to distant metropolitan markets for high profit. When purchasing the veil from a tier 1 avatar, the factor pays the standard 10% baseline (4.8 to 6.8 silver pieces), usually settling the exchange in trail provisions—such as dried meat, travel waterskins, horse feed, or climbing ropes. Cash payouts are logged in the factor’s travel ledger to verify assets during garrison inspections.
- Statutory Taxation, Banking Overhead, and Currency Encumbrance:
- Municipal Point-of-Sale Taxes and Transit Tariffs: All legitimate transactions involving the veil are governed by the statutory fiscal codes of Saṃsāra’s territorial governments. Purchases completed within incorporated Palace Cities, Diplomatic Enclaves, or Trade Gateways incur a mandatory 3% municipal point-of-sale tax. Merchant wagons transporting luxury silk garments across provincial borders are subject to a 5% ad valorem transit tariff assessed by pass garrisons, alongside an additional 1% gate fee upon entering central cities. Foreign merchants without recognized local registry are assessed double rates (a 6% sales tax and a 10% transit tariff).
- World Bank Administrative Deductions: When sales proceeds are credited to an avatar’s ledger through the telegraphic banking network, the system automatically deducts a 1% administrative fee, rounded up to the nearest copper coin. On a standard baseline sale of 5 silver pieces (50 copper), the bank deducts 1 copper piece, depositing 4 silver and 9 copper into the character’s Mind’s Eye account. Complete transaction manifests remain accessible for provincial tax authorities and guild bailiffs.
- Physical Coinage Weight Versus Extradimensional Storage: Avatars carrying heavy pouches of physical currency through delicate social gatherings, ballroom dances, or diplomatic salons face tangible physical encumbrance and social penalties. Carrying dozens of loose copper, nickel, or silver coins creates deadweight that pulls awkwardly at tailored silk tunics, disrupts an avatar’s natural grace, and produces an audible metallic clink that shatters the subtle, ethereal allure of the veil. Depositing currency into an Extradimensional Pouch eliminates all coin mass, volume, and noise, allowing the avatar to move with frictionless poise, unmarred by heavy purse-strings or the vulgar rattling of base metal.
Roleplay Dynamics, Social Allure, and Defensive-Offensive Applications of Sufism 57 of the Enamored Veil
- Imperial Palace Salons, Diplomatic Banquets, and Treacherous Sovereign Courts:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Within monumental throne rooms, marble audience halls, and candlelit treaty banquets, political survival depends upon navigating masked hostility, poisoned compliments, and covert court intrigue. Courtiers in heavy silk damasks trade venomous rumors while sovereign guards line the colonnades with halberds ready. The air is thick with perfumed waxes, stale wine, roasting game, and smoldering ambergris braziers, concealing the subtle scent of toxic draughts and concealed daggers.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Circulating among hostile factions, the avatar relies on the Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze passive. Glowing rose-gold and carmine filaments trace emotional vulnerabilities, unspoken lusts, suppressed resentments, and hidden daggers up to thirty feet away, warning the wearer before a poisoned goblet is offered or an ambush is triggered.
- The Purity of the Enamored Breath passive maintains a constant, warming envelope of wild mountain rose-attar and musk around the face, completely neutralizing airborne poisons, toxic vapor draughts, and the nauseating stench of tainted food.
- If a concealed assassin lunges with a stiletto or an enraged noble draws a rapier, the Sinuous Allure passive and the +1 Armor Check bonus deflect the thrust. The fluttering blush silk and rhythmic sway of the silver sequins create an optical illusion that misdirects precision strikes away from the neck and throat, while the cold-hammered silver chains turn aside slicing blades.
- When guards unleash crossbow quarrels or an explosive coup rocks the banquet hall, the avatar activates the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud. Crossing hands over the chest, a refractive pink-amber mist expands twenty feet, reducing incoming concussive and missile damage by 25% while confusing enemy target acquisition.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When an aggressive warlord, inquisitor, or rival diplomat corners the avatar or threatens their companions, the user executes the Somatic Enticement Cadence (The Call of the Beloved). Touching the spinel cabochon and whispering the melodic invocation Yā Wadūd, a pulse of peach-and-rose light washes across thirty feet. Up to three hostile leaders must make Willpower saves or become thoroughly enraptured for ten minutes, lowering their blades, ignoring the avatar’s allies, and stepping forward with compliant fascination to negotiate on the avatar’s terms. Speaking the sovereign’s true title extends this reach to sixty feet.
- Leveraging the Mīzān passive, the avatar directs conversation with surgical precision, exploiting identified emotional fixations to secure trade concessions, royal pardons, or military alliances without rolling with disadvantage.
- Prior to an assembly, the avatar conducts the Ritual Chanting of the Ninety-Nine Yearnings (The Samā’ of Longing). Pacing a slow circle around the chamber while chanting and sliding the ninety-nine rosewood-and-jade beads, the space is sanctified for twenty-four hours. Any noble or bodyguard entering the hall must pass a Willpower save or find their aggressive impulses replaced by a profound, bittersweet melancholy, rendering treacherous violence socially and spiritually intolerable.
- Subterranean Pleasure Warrens, Smuggler Vaults, and Illicit Backrooms:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Deep within the lawless underbelly of river ports, mining hubs, and canal labyrinths, trade and interrogation unfold in claustrophobic, candlelit dive-bars, gambling dens, and sunken fences’ vaults. The atmosphere is damp and greasy, smelling of sour ale, raw sweat, gutter mud, and burning tallow. Armed extortionists, desperate cutpurses, and syndicate brokers conduct business with daggers resting on wooden tables, ready to slit throats over a disputed nickel.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Walking through squalid, diseased alleys, the Purity passive completely isolates the wearer from sewer miasmas, rotting offal, and noxious waste fumes. Mud, ale stains, and blood splatters bead and roll off the blush silk without leaving a mark.
- The continuous, delicate shiver-chime of the silver droplets and spacing discs sets a calming cadence that dampens sudden criminal aggression; hostile thugs within five feet suffer a -10% penalty on sudden attacks and surprise checks, hesitant to deface the avatar’s captivating presence.
- In close-quarters brawls, the reinforced gazelle-suede lining and silver temple chains turn aside garrote wires and brass knuckles targeting the jaw and throat (+1 Armor Check bonus).
- When an ambush erupts or a black-powder charge is ignited in a confined room, the avatar triggers the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud. The barrier shunts 25% of the concussive kinetic blast into shimmering optical mirages, preserving the avatar and adjacent allies.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When cornered by a loan shark or an extortion squad, the avatar initiates the Somatic Enticement Cadence. The amber-rose light and seductive rose-attar vapor captivate the gang leader, compelling them to lower their club, step away from their muscle, and offer safe passage or secret information in exchange for continued conversation.
- Using the Mīzān passive, the avatar reads the financial desperation, addictions, and hidden fears of underworld fixers, gaining immediate leverage during black-market purchasing or fence negotiations.
- The avatar executes the Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual over a hideout or safehouse cellar. For twenty-four hours, syndicate enforcers sent to breach the perimeter find their murderous resolve draining away, unable to bring themselves to kick in the door or raise weapons against the inhabitants.
- High-Altitude Mountain Passes, Scree Ridges, and Glacier Forts:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Suspended between jagged granite crags thousands of paces above sea level, alpine trail outposts and chasm bridges are swept by sub-zero winds, driving sleet, and thin mountain air. Nomadic brigands, desperate deserters, and predatory cliff-beasts hunt along the narrow shelves. The physical environment is unforgiving: one misstep sends a traveler plunging into bottomless chasms of fractured shale.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Crossing narrow rock ledges, the steady acoustic cadence of the silver droplets and spacer discs stabilizes the avatar’s equilibrium, clearing altitude vertigo and spatial disorientation caused by buffeting gales.
- The Purity passive warms the icy, thin mountain air as it passes through the ambergris-infused silk, preventing frozen breath, throat coughing spasms, and bronchial irritation from biting glacial drafts.
- When mountain brigands loose hunting arrows or sling-stones from higher cliffs, the Sinuous Allure passive blurs the avatar’s silhouette, imposing a 10% miss chance on incoming missiles as projectiles drift toward the fluttering silk fringes rather than vital arteries.
- If a sudden rockfall shears off an overhang or an explosive blasting charge detonates, the avatar deploys the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud to absorb 25% of the crushing rock trauma and disperse the kinetic shock away from the trail.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Confronted by a war-band of frozen, starving hill-bandits blocking a rope bridge, the avatar touches the Badakhshan spinel and triggers the Somatic Enticement Cadence. The warm, radiant peach light and scent of blooming lowland gardens strike the shivering brigands; up to three sentries drop their weapons and step toward the bridge center, weeping with sudden homesickness and refusing to cut the ropes.
- In close skirmishes, the avatar uses their tier 1 pass-through capability alongside a light dagger or needle-blade, targeting pressure points revealed by the Mīzān’s emotional and physical telemetry while applying standard iterative attack penalties to off-hand strikes.
- Before resting in an exposed cliff cave, the avatar performs the Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual. The cave threshold is sanctified for twenty-four hours; wild cliff-predators and human trackers approaching the cave find their predatory instincts subdued by quiet awe, turning back into the blizzard without attacking.
- Besieged Fortress Parapets, Breached Gatehouses, and Frontline Skirmishes:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Amidst the roar of active siege warfare, stone curtain walls shudder under trebuchet bombardment, boiling oil cascades from machicolations, and assault shock-troops storm through breached masonry. The air is black with pitch smoke, pulverized mortar dust, burning wood, and the screams of dying avatars dissolving into purple sparks. Raw bloodlust and panic threaten to break the defender’s line.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Moving through breach chokepoints, the Purity passive immunizes the avatar against asphyxiation from sulfurous burning oil, choking lime dust, and the stench of charred flesh, allowing them to issue clear orders while others choke.
- The +1 Armor Check bonus turns aside piercing ballista splinters, crossbow bolts, and spear thrusts targeting the lower face and throat.
- When a trebuchet boulder shatters a nearby crenellation or a sapper mine blows a crater in the parapet, the avatar triggers the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud. The kinetic barrier absorbs 25% of the concussive blast and flying masonry shrapnel, shielding the avatar and adjacent defenders.
- The Sinuous Allure passive imposes a 10% miss chance on archer volleys raining down from siege towers, deflecting arrows harmlessly into the battlements.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When an enemy assault champion or armored brute breaches the barricade, the avatar steps forward, parts the veil, and releases the Somatic Enticement Cadence. The sudden burst of celestial rose light and the vocalized syllable of divine affection freeze the champion mid-swing. Enraptured, the brute lowers their broadsword, turns away from the retreating defenders, and walks dumbfounded toward the avatar, completely neutralized without a drop of blood shed.
- Using the Mīzān passive, the avatar identifies wavering morale and panic in the attacking ranks, signaling archers to target officers whose emotional doubt vectors are already fracturing their command line.
- During a lull in the assault, the avatar paces the breached gatehouse while chanting the Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual. For twenty-four hours, the breach is cloaked in spiritual inviolability; advancing shock-troops attempting to charge through the opening suffer severe morale collapse, their bloodlust dissolving into overwhelming sorrow and hesitation.
- Ancient Crypt Mausoleums, Petroglyphic Catacombs, and Forgotten Hypogea:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: Carved into the deep foundations of extinct dynastic cities, ancient necropolises feature subterranean burial corridors, sealed sarcophagi, and crumbling plaster murals. Millennia of damp darkness have cultivated grave mold, tomb rot, and wandering necrotic spirits. Skeletal guardians, clay automata, and desperate grave-robbers stalk corridors laced with forgotten pressure-plate darts and scything blades.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Navigating subterranean tombs, the Purity passive protects the avatar from ancient mummy decay, toxic spore clouds, and paralyzing corpse effluvia that incapacitate standard explorers.
- The Mīzān passive outlines lingering emotional imprints, spiritual fixations, and mechanical wire-trip traps embedded in stone floors up to thirty feet away, preventing the party from blundering into concealed dart corridors.
- The +1 Armor Check bonus and silver chains deflect poison darts, swinging scythes, and skeletal claw swipes aimed at the throat and cervical vertebrae.
- When an ancient ceiling trap drops or a crypt counter-weight collapses, the avatar deploys the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud, absorbing 25% of the crushing stone damage and shielding companions beneath a shimmering peach-rose mist.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Encountering sentient tomb wraiths, sorrowful phantoms, or rival grave-robbers, the avatar executes the Somatic Enticement Cadence. The radiant spiritual warmth of the Beloved cuts through necrotic despair; wandering spirits pause their wailing and gather peacefully around the avatar, while rival scavengers drop their crowbars in weeping contemplation.
- The avatar reads the unfulfilled desires and ancient oaths inscribed upon tomb murals using the Mīzān telemetry, allowing them to solve ward-puzzles and bypass spectral guardians without triggering combat.
- Before opening a royal burial vault, the avatar performs the Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual across the threshold. The sanctum suppresses necrotic hostility for twenty-four hours, granting all companions a +25% bonus to morale and advantage on saving throws against fear, terror, and soul-drain.
- Stratospheric Sky-Keel Slipways, Cloud-Bazaars, and Floating Aerial Gardens:
- Environmental Context and Atmospheric Dynamics: High above Saṃsāra’s cloud-plains, commerce and diplomacy take place on floating lodestone platforms, aerial palace barges, and hanging garden sky-docks. The open sky roars with stratospheric wind currents, the hum of ether-turbines, and the snapping of silk riggings. Sky-corsairs, aerial skirmishers, and winged mantas contest these aerial trade lanes, where a shove or blown grapple cable means a terminal plunge into the lower clouds.
- Defensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- Standing upon open deck outriggers, the metronomic shiver-chime of the silver sequins keeps the avatar’s vestibular system grounded, eliminating high-altitude vertigo and spatial disorientation caused by tumbling cloudscapes.
- The Purity passive filters out ozone discharge from ether-engines, burning lamp oils, and thin-air hypoxemia, keeping the avatar’s breathing rhythmic and steady.
- The +1 Armor Check bonus and silver wire embroidery turn aside raking talons from predatory sky-beasts and boarding harpoon points aimed at the neck and face.
- When a sky-vessel’s deck is strafed by aerial bombards or canister shot, the avatar deploys the Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud. The barrier absorbs 25% of the concussive aerial blast, dissipating the kinetic force across the airframe.
- Offensive Roleplay and Mechanics:
- When sky-corsairs grapple an aerial barge, the avatar steps to the gangway and unleashes the Somatic Enticement Cadence. The brilliant burst of rose light and the alluring vocalization captivate the boarding captain and deck officers; they freeze mid-stride, lower their cutlasses, and refuse to give the order to plunder, opening a window for peaceful surrender or counter-maneuvers.
- The Sinuous Allure passive makes the avatar an irresistible focal point on the deck, drawing ranged sniper fire away from the pilot or helmsman while the 10% miss chance and defensive wards protect the avatar from harm.
- The avatar conducts the Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual over the central passenger pavilion or navigation bridge. For twenty-four hours, mutinous impulses, crew panics, and sky-corsair bloodlust are pacified, keeping the sky-ship secure in a field of calm and captivating grace.

Perception of Activation:
- Five Senses Breakdown:
- Visual Perception (Sight):
- User Experience: Upon activation, the visual field softens into a warm, luminous rose-and-peach register, stripping away harsh glares and shadows. The teardrop Badakhshan spinel cabochon directly over the nasal bridge ignites with a deep, radiant raspberry-rose glow, sending subtle ripples of peach-and-amber light across the blush silk veil. In the Mind’s Eye, social reality becomes visible: glowing rose-gold and carmine filaments appear between sentient beings, mapping unspoken desires, hidden grief, emotional vulnerabilities, and points of fluctuating attraction up to thirty feet away. Hostile intent registers as jagged, dull-crimson spikes, while latent affection or curiosity glows with soft golden light. Under True Sight, delicate phantom motifs of fluttering moths circling a blooming desert rose drift through the air around the wearer’s silhouette.
- Observer Experience: Observers see the teardrop spinel on the wearer’s face-veil flare with an enchanting, jewel-like raspberry brilliance. Translucent waves of peach-and-amber luminescence wash through the diaphanous silk, making the embroidered silver moths and calligraphic script appear to shimmer and hover off the fabric. The suspended silver droplets and pink tourmaline beads along the hem catch the light, creating a halo of sparkling, rhythmic highlights around the bearer’s throat and shoulders that commands immediate visual attention.
- Auditory Perception (Sound):
- User Experience: The ambient clamor of shouting crowds, rattling weapons, or echoing dungeon drafts softens into a gentle, atmospheric hush. The twenty-four teardrop silver sequins and cold-forged silver spacer discs brush against one another with an unbroken, crystalline shiver-chime that resembles the ringing of tiny glass bells in an alpine breeze. Beneath this cadence, a deep, melodic harmonic tone vibrates through the sphenoid, nasal, and cheek bones—a continuous, comforting acoustic drone attuned to the sacred invocation of divine affection (Yā Wadūd).
- Observer Experience: Bystanders hear an ethereal, delicate shiver-chime that carries cleanly through chaotic taverns, tense council chambers, or windy passes without grating on the ears. The rhythmic cadence instinctively draws the ear, settling racing pulses and making coarse shouting feel uncomfortably abrasive and out of place.
- Olfactory Perception (Smell):
- User Experience: Activation releases an immediate, warming draft of intoxicating perfume as the wearer’s body heat warms the ambergris-musk bedding and the rose-attar vial. The wearer inhales a lush bouquet of freshly bloomed Damask roses, warm coastal ambergris, sweet botanical musk, and steeped dried pomegranate blossoms. This fragrant shield instantly purges the respiratory tract, clearing away nausea caused by sulfurous fumes, rotting corpses, sewer stenches, or choking limestone dust.
- Observer Experience: Anyone within a five-to-fifteen-foot radius is enveloped by an unexpected breeze smelling of flowering alpine tea-rose gardens, warm cedar, and sweet musk. Even in damp catacombs or blood-splattered battlements, observers detect a soothing, luxurious fragrance that evokes peaceful palaces and quiet sanctuaries, disarming hostility and stirring nostalgic memories.
- Gustatory Perception (Taste):
- User Experience: A delicate sweetness coats the tongue and palate—the flavor of candied rose petals steeped in cold mountain spring water, backed by a hint of wild honey and tart pomegranate juice. This pleasant moisture washes away cottonmouth, bitter bile, and the metallic tang of fear and adrenaline.
- Observer Experience: Observers do not taste the activation under ordinary circumstances; however, those caught in the immediate radius of the active enticement pulse report a faint floral sweetness on their lips, like inhaling the steam from a cup of freshly poured rose tea.
- Visual Perception (Sight):
- Tactile and Somatosensory Perception (Touch):
- User Experience: The blush silk feels weightless and soothing against the skin, resembling a warm, fragrant breath across the lower face, throat, and clavicles. Muscular tension in the jaw, neck, and shoulders melts away; breathing falls into a rhythmic, measured cadence. The avatar experiences an effortless, gliding physical poise; movement feels fluid and unencumbered, as if stepping through water or floating upon air.
- Observer Experience: Touching the veil reveals an impossibly smooth, frictionless textile, while contact with the central spinel cabochon imparts a soothing, rhythmic warmth that pulses like a calm, sleeping heartbeat.
- Multiple Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze (Alluring Telemetry):
- The avatar receives a constant, intuitive social-emotional telemetry map in their Mind’s Eye, outlining the unspoken desires, emotional fixations, suppressed fears, and hidden daggers of every humanoid within thirty feet, pinpointing the exact conversational tone or gesture needed to sway them.
- Harmonic Seduction Awareness:
- The user instinctively perceives the precise acoustic frequency, vocal timbre, and breathing rhythm required to soothe an enraged target, command attention, or disarm an interrogator’s suspicion without appearing aggressive.
- Sinuous Kinetic Fascinate Intuition:
- The avatar senses incoming lines of attack not as brute forces, but as misdirected vectors. The wearer intuitively sees how the fluttering hem and silver sequins draw an opponent’s eyes, revealing where to shift their head to let strikes glance harmlessly away.
- Shawq (Spiritual Longing) Environmental Telemetry:
- The user registers the collective emotional atmosphere of a room or battlefield as localized atmospheric pressure across their temples, detecting rising mob violence, wavering morale, or hidden panic before actions are taken.
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze (Alluring Telemetry):
- Perspectives on Activation:
- User’s Perspective:
- For the bearer, activating the veil turns an environment of confrontation and peril into an arena of spiritual grace. The avatar does not view foes as savage monsters to be butchered, but as yearning, misdirected souls starved for beauty and harmony. Anxious fight-or-flight reactions are replaced by calm, radiant confidence, enabling the user to draw attention, disarm malice, and guide hostile wills with deliberate, captivating poise.
- Observer’s Perspective:
- To onlookers, the avatar transforms into an ethereal focal point of captivating beauty and solemn dignity. The glowing raspberry jewel, the swirling blush silk, the rhythmic shiver-chime of silver, and the scent of wild mountain roses combine to command instinctual fascination. Soldiers lower their weapon points, courtiers pause their murmurs, and predatory beasts hesitate, experiencing an overwhelming reluctance to destroy something so graceful.
- User’s Perspective:
- Comprehensive Positives of Activation:
- Emotional and Vulnerability Telemetry: Reveals hidden fixations, emotional wounds, and concealed weapons across a thirty-to-sixty-foot radius.
- Complete Environmental Respiratory Immunity: Renders the wearer immune to nauseating stenches, airborne corpse decay, toxic swamp mists, and inhaled chemical irritants.
- Kinetic Fascinate Deflection: Imposes an inherent 10% miss chance on incoming projectile and stiletto attacks targeting the upper body by subtly drawing strikes toward the fluttering hem.
- Target Enticement and Aggression Suppression: The Somatic Enticement Cadence captivates up to three hostile creatures for ten minutes, causing them to lower weapons, ignore companions, and focus peacefully upon the avatar.
- Blast and Missile Damage Dampening: The Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud absorbs 25% of incoming damage from area explosions, spell bursts, and projectile volleys, dispersing the force into shimmering mirages.
- Sanctification and Morale Fortification: The Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual infuses an area for twenty-four hours, pacifying violence through melancholy and granting allies a +25% bonus to morale and fear resistance.
- Social Skill Advantage: Grants an inherent advantage on Persuasion, Deception, Performance, and Etiquette checks.
- Cervical and Facial Armor: The reinforced silver chains and spinel mount provide a reliable +1 Armor Check bonus against strikes targeting the face, throat, and carotid arteries.
- Comprehensive Negatives of Activation:
- Inescapable Acoustic Footprint: The silver droplets and spacer discs chime continuously with physical movement, imposing heavy penalties on attempts to move silently.
- High Visual and Astral Luminescence: The brilliant raspberry-rose and peach-amber glow illuminates the user in darkness and blazes brightly on the astral plane, making concealment impossible.
- Distinct Aromatic Trail: The potent fragrance of roses, ambergris, and musk lingers in enclosed rooms and downwind corridors, leaving a scent trail easily tracked by hounds or beasts.
- Catalyst Fracture Risk: If an active power triggers a critical failure or magic fumble, the internal crystal risks shattering along its cleavage planes, rendering the veil non-magical until repaired.
- Fragile Enticement Bond: If the avatar or an ally attacks a target charmed by the Call of the Beloved, the spell breaks instantly, often sending the target into an enraged frenzy.
- Ritual Interruption Vulnerability: The Ninety-Nine Yearnings ritual requires ten minutes of continuous chanting and spiraling movement; taking damage forces a concentration check that can waste mana and ruin the working.
- Direct Sunder Risk: Because the jewel blazes openly across the face, intelligent opponents can target the face slot directly, risking attunement loss or physical destruction of the cabochon.

The practitioner must be capable of channeling mana into a peach-amber crystal matrix, aligning emotional telemetry channels, and anchoring contemplative aura fields (al-Wadūd).
- Crafting Steps:
- Step 1: Dye Compounding, Kettle-Steeping, and Silk Preparation:
- Simmer the crushed pomegranate blossoms, saffron stigmas, and madder root in soft rainwater within an earthenware vat at a low simmer for three hours, avoiding a hard boil to preserve color purity.
- Immerse the mulberry silk and golden flax twill into the warm bath, agitating with a smooth wooden paddle until the fabric absorbs an iridescent, translucent sunrise blush.
- Rinse the dyed cloth in cold mountain water and stretch it upon a drying rack in a shaded, dust-free arbor until fully cured.
- Step 2: Veil Drafting, Hem Finishing, and Silver Embroidery:
- Cut the blush silk to a curved trapezoid measuring fourteen inches across the brow and twenty inches along the vertical drape, beveling the lower corners.
- Roll the raw edges into a micro-hem and secure them using invisible whip-stitches sewn with single-strand raw silk thread.
- Mount the upper border into the tambour frame and embroider fine calligraphic verses of affection along with motifs of fluttering moths and desert roses using annealed silver wire, ensuring the stitches remain flexible and flat against the brow.
- Step 3: Badakhshan Spinel Lapidary and Catalyst Socket Excavation:
- Grind the rough spinel nodule against the flat lap using wet corundum slurries until it forms a symmetrical, teardrop-shaped cabochon measuring one and a half inches in height and three-eighths of an inch in thickness.
- Polish the convex face with tin oxide paste on the leather buff until it achieves a liquid, vitreous raspberry luster.
- Turn the stone over and use the diamond bow drill with fine coolant to excavate a circular bedding cavity on the flat reverse side, measuring three-quarters of an inch wide and one-eighth of an inch deep, ensuring the walls remain even and crack-free.
- Step 4: Silver Bezel, Filigree Circlet, and Temple Chain Assembly:
- Fabricate an openwork silver setting fitted with four delicate retention prongs to seat the teardrop spinel, soldering the bezel to the central junction of two articulated silver temple chains.
- Line the reverse of the temple chains with skived mountain gazelle suede using vegetable gum to prevent metal friction against the skin.
- Attach the upper embroidered edge of the silk veil to the lower rim of the silver circlet using tiny soldered silver jump-rings.
- Step 5: Rosary Lathe-Turning and Hem Droplet Stringing:
- Turn sixty-six beads from fragrant rosewood and thirty-three beads from mutton-fat jade upon the spindle lathe to a six-millimeter diameter, boring a fine central channel through each.
- String the ninety-nine beads onto braided blush silk cord in three equal sections of thirty-three, separated by cold-forged silver spacer discs, and fix the loop with an anchor clasp to the left temple chain.
- Stitch twenty-four stamped silver sequins along the lower hem of the veil, pairing each with a suspended teardrop bead of pink tourmaline using silver wire loops.
- Step 6: Attar Vial Filling and Right Temple Rigging:
- Charge the half-inch rock-crystal vial with concentrated wild mountain tea-rose attar using the glass dropper, seating the silver-wired cork stopper firmly to prevent evaporation.
- Mount the sealed vial into a silver filigree suspension cradle and fasten it securely to the right temple chain opposite the rosary.
- Step 7: Compounding the Ambergris, Musk, and Beeswax Bedding:
- Warm the clarified beeswax in the porcelain crucible over the spirit burner until just liquid.
- Blend in the aged ambergris and pulverized musk grains with the glass stirring rod, maintaining a low, steady heat until the ingredients form an aromatic, honey-colored paste that remains pliable at skin temperature.
- Step 8: Catalyst Seating, Mana Infusion, and Bezel Setting:
- Press a uniform layer of warm aromatic paste into the excavated socket on the reverse of the spinel cabochon.
- Seat the uncut Tier 1 Magic Crystal into the bedding paste, pressing it flush with the reverse rim of the gemstone.
- Channel personal mana into the crystal matrix for twelve continuous minutes while reciting the contemplative formulas of divine allure and universal harmony (al-Wadūd), guiding the energy until the crystal flares with a steady internal peach-and-amber glow.
- Place the assembled gemstone into the silver bezel, bending the four silver retention prongs over the cabochon edges using the bezel pusher to lock the stone and catalyst in place.
- Step 9: Assembly Verification and Acoustic Calibration:
- Don the completed veil and execute gentle head turns: verify that the silver sequins and tourmaline beads along the hem strike one another with an unbroken, delicate shiver-chime without snagging on the silk.
- Confirm that the gazelle suede rests comfortably against the temples, leaving the nasal bridge unobstructed and allowing normal breathing through the scented silk.
- Step 10: Consecration, Smudging, and Attunement Verification:
- Ignite the smudge bundle of dried rose petals, white sandalwood, and gum benzoin, passing the completed veil through the aromatic smoke forty-nine times while holding the spinel between thumb and forefinger.
- Anoint the tip of the cabochon with three drops of glacial snowmelt water to seal the energetic boundaries, then allow the item to rest upon a silk cushion for one hour.
- Roll a d20 to determine the final crafting result:
- 2–19: Standard crafting success; the veil achieves a base resilience rating of 10 and a maximum hit point pool equal to the wearing avatar’s base plus 10.
- 20: Exceptional aesthetic resonance; the item gains a permanent +1 bonus on all social checks involving persuasion, seduction, or de-escalating hostility.
- 1: Catastrophic energetic fracture; the internal crystal fractures along its planes during final cooling, ruining the catalyst and requiring replacement of the gemstone matrix.
- Step 1: Dye Compounding, Kettle-Steeping, and Silk Preparation:
Rose-Blush Shroud, Mountain of Weeping Spinels, and Dervish Maiden Who Enticed Wolves from Throat of Valley
In that dawn-hour of the uncounted turning of the world-circle Saṃsāra, when the fiery eyeball of Helios was first hoisted upon eleven copper poles to burn the salt-pans of the earth—so that the clay of the riverbeds cracked like dried sheep-skins—there was no quietness in the rib-cage of mankind. For the great purple womb and bladder of VaporSphere, which the mountain-scribes in the margin have called The-Bruise-That-Hangeth-Without-A-Rope, was heavy with an unnatural heat, dragging upon the blood in men’s throats as a herdsman’s hook draggeth an unwilling calf. In those days, men did not build to dwell, but to strike; their speech was the barking of dogs over marrow-bones; and if two caravans met upon a high trail of Badakhshan, they did not say Peace be upon thee, but drove bronze needles into the eyes of one another’s mules and cast the packs down into the gravel chasms. And the mother of stone, Gaialilith, did weep through her limestone rills, for the purple sparks of fallen avatars rose into the ether like smoke from wet dung, without name, without prayer, and without remembrance.
Now in the high, throat-like notch of the Pamir crags which the glossator rendereth as The-Pass-of-Bitter-Almonds—though an older marginal hand hath written The-Place-Where-Blood-Doth-Not-Sink-Into-The-Gravel—there gathered an iron host under the horse-tail banners of a chieftain known in the corrupted cuneiform as Sardar-Qara-the-Flint-Eyed [or in the later dialect: The-Hyena-Who-Cheweth-The-Stirrup]. He was an avatar whose chest was hairy as a bear’s hide, whose shoulders were crooked from carrying an iron maul of ninety pounds weight, and whose heart had been dried by the purple sky until he knew neither thirst for wine nor delight in children, but only a fever to see living throats split open like ripe figs. Behind his iron-plated war-horses rode nine hundred horsemen clad in greasy boiled bull-hide, bearing lances tipped with poisoned river-flint; and their war-wagons were laden with kettles of pitch, chains of spiked brass, and flaying-knives of three fingers’ width.
Down in the green cup of the lower valley lay the ancient hospice and terraced orchards of Bagh-i-Nīlūfar—which signifieth The-Sanctuary-of-the-Water-Lily—where the dervishes of the holy order of the wounded heart did dwell. These were poor folk of the first tier, who possessed neither coats of mail nor repeating crossbows; they ate only parched barley mixed with dried mulberries, and their trade was the gathering of wild rose-attar, the weaving of fine mountain silks, and the contemplation of that great station which the unknown tongue nameth Ishq-e-Haqīqī [which the translator hath clumsily rendered as: The-Craving-That-Cannot-Be-Filled-By-Bread]. When the runners came down from the snow-line, falling upon their faces and gasping that the horsemen of Qara were descending like an avalanche of black iron to burn the mulberry groves and cast the novices from the cliffs, the elders of the lodge wept into their beards and tore their coarse wool tunics, crying: The mountain hath brought forth an adder, and we have no stone to crush its head! Let us scatter into the high caves, though the frost eat our toes, for the iron man knoweth no mercy!
Then arose from among the looms of the inner court a maiden and dervish-weaver whose name is written in the ancient ink as Bibi Mastana-the-Veiled-Lark [or: The-Daughter-Whose-Breath-Smells-Of-Wild-Cistus]. She was a contemplative avatar of the first rank, slender as a young willow that groweth by a mountain irrigation ditch, whose voice had never been raised in a market dispute, and whose eyes were soft as the eyes of a gazelle that hath drunk at a sweet spring. Yet her soul was not water; it was like the tempered silver wire that bendeth twelve times without snapping. For nine years she had practiced the mysteries of Shawq—which is the divine longing of the soul that seeth every mortal creature as a moth stumbling through the dark toward an unquenched flame.
She stood before the elders and said these poorly recorded words: Why will ye run into the wolf’s throat, my fathers? The man of iron cometh not because his belly is empty of meat, but because his spirit is starved of beauty, and he knoweth no way to weep except with the edge of the axe. If ye strike an anvil with a hammer, the anvil ringeth with a sound that deafeneth the ear; but if ye cast upon the anvil a scarf of fine silk, the hammer falleth without a scream. Flee not to the caves. I shall go up to the pass, and I will take with me only the needle, the spinning-whorl, and the remembrance of the Beloved (al-Wadūd); and I shall show this butcher that the moth cannot eat the fire that draweth it.
Wherefore she went into the small, dark chamber beneath the roots of the wild pomegranate trees, where the mountain rills trickled through the damp slate, and she set herself to fashion that garment which is the fifty-seventh station of the enamored heart.
First, she took two measures of gossamer cloth woven from split raw silk of the mountain mulberry and long-fibered golden flax grown in the glacial runoffs. This fabric she kettle-steeped in an earthenware vat filled with four ounces of dried wild mountain pomegranate flowers, one ounce of saffron stigmas plucked by moonlight from the high terraced fields of Badakhshan, and the crushed root of mountain madder, stirring it with a linden-wood spoon until the silk took on the translucent, shivering blush of the first cloud that catcheth the eye of Helios before the noon-heat breaketh. And the silk was so light that when she laid it upon the palm of her hand, the pulse of her wrist made the cloth to shiver like a living wing.
Second, she took eight feet of annealed native silver wire, drawn through forty holes in an iron plate until it was fine as a horse’s mane; and with a bone needle she embroidered along the brow-line the verses of the ancient ghazals and the figures of twenty-and-four moths circling a desert rose that hath forty petals. And to the upper border she fastened an openwork circlet of silver chain-links, beaten cold upon a flat stone of jade, and she lined the metal with the paper-thin suede of a mountain gazelle that had died of old age upon the moss, that no harsh iron or cold silver might bite into the skin of the temples.
Third, she climbed to the sheer cliff of Kūh-i-Lāl—which the ancient commentary glossateth as The-Crag-Where-The-Spinel-Weepeth—and she climbed without a rope, her bare toes finding the clefts, until she reached a vein of red spar that looked like coagulated pomegranate juice. There she quarried with an iron bodkin a single teardrop cabochon of Badakhshan spinel, an inch and a half in length, clear as frozen wine, within which the red light burned without smoke. And upon the flat under-face of this jewel she ground out a circular hollow using corundum dust; and into that nest she seated an uncut Tier 1 magic crystal that had been caught in a fisherman’s wicker net in the river Oxus—a stone having a heart like an amber peach that hath lain in the sun. This she bedded in a paste made of clarified mountain beeswax, half a dram of fragrant ambergris cast up by some forgotten sea before the mountains were hoisted, and the crushed grains of wild musk.
Fourth, she took four-and-twenty droplets of silver, stamped like tears, and four-and-twenty beads of pink tourmaline pierced through their centers, stitching them along the lower hem of the blush silk so that they hung down across the neck; and upon the left temple chain she hung a rosary of ninety-and-nine beads, whereof six-and-sixty were turned upon a bow-lathe from sweet-smelling red rosewood, and three-and-thirty from the white, oily fat-jade of the river gravels, parted into three measures by cold-hammered silver washers. And upon the right temple chain she fastened a thumb-sized vial of rock-crystal, filled with the triple-distilled attar of mountain tea-roses, stopped with a cork bound in silver wire.
When she had passed the veil forty-and-nine times through the smoke of dried Damask rose petals, shaved white sandalwood, and tears of sweet benzoin gum, reciting without pause the ninety-nine invocations of the All-Affectionate (al-Wadūd), she drew the gazelle-suede band around her temples.
Behold! The veil fell across her mouth and her throat like a cloud of sunrise mist!
In that very moment, her breathing became cool and sweet, and the smell of the world changed in her nostrils. The dust of the road, the sour sweat of the panic-stricken novices, and the bitter sulfur-stench of the purple sky were wiped away as an old slate is wiped with a wet sponge. In their place arose a great fragrance of blooming gardens, warm musk, and crushed rose leaves, so thick that her palate tasted of chilled water and wild honey. Her eyes opened into that sight which the scribes call The-Mīzān-of-the-Gaze; she looked out through the silk and saw the valley not as rocks and trees, but as thousands of shimmering, rose-gold and carmine threads connecting heart to heart—the hidden grief of the blacksmith, the secret longing of the shepherd boy, and the black, twisted knots of terror that bound the souls of the fleeing elders. And every time she moved her chin, the four-and-twenty silver droplets and the cold washers struck one another with an unbroken, silvery shiver-chime, shiver-chime, like the singing of twenty glass bells upon an alpine wind.
Now at the eleventh hour of Helios, the host of Sardar-Qara arrived at the narrow lip of the pass. The iron horses were black with lather; the riders were gray with the dry limestone dust of the march; their teeth were bared like wolves; and their spears were held low to impale the first man who should cross their path. Sardar-Qara rode at the fore upon an uncastrated black stallion whose nostrils were plugged with pitch to keep him fierce, and the iron maul upon the Sardar’s saddle-bow was crusted with the dried hair and scabs of forty sieges.
He drew rein at the crest of the gap, his eyes searching the scree for archers, but he saw no soldiers.
He saw only a maiden sitting upon an uncarved granite block in the middle of the narrow way, where the wind blew thin and cold from the snowfields.
She wore no iron shirt; she carried neither round shield nor javelin. A cloak of humble dervish fleece was wrapped about her knees, but over her face hung a veil of blush-rose silk, shivering in the gale, and in the middle of her brow burned a great, teardrop stone of red spinel that shone like a live coal in the noon-day glare.
Sardar-Qara spat upon the rock and laughed with a sound like two millstones grinding gravel. What carcass is this that the beggars have left upon our road? he bellowed, raising his iron maul with one arm. Is there no man in this ditch with a sword to be broken? Go down, dog-riders! Trample this painted rag into the gravel, and let the wagons pass over her belly!
Two horsemen, their faces scarred by knife-fights in the border taverns, kicked the ribs of their mares and lunged forward, leveling their flint-headed lances to run her through where she sat.
Bibi Mastana did not flinch; she did not turn her neck to flee.
She lifted her right hand, touched the tip of the Badakhshan spinel with two fingers, and parted the silk veil by the space of an almond with a gentle intake of breath. Out of the deep cistern of her heart, singing in a voice that was like the pouring of chilled cream into an earthen bowl, she released that single, melodic syllable of the ancient longing: YĀ WADŪD!
PING-SHIVERRR!
Behold! The Somatic Enticement Cadence burst across the rocky pass!
A great, circular fountain of warm, peach-and-amber-tinted light, smelling of newly bloomed tea-roses and ancient ambergris, exploded from the face-veil across thirty paces! Where that rosy radiance swept, the iron horses suddenly halted, planting their hooves into the scree and arching their necks, their foaming nostrils opening wide to draw in the fragrant, honeyed air.
The two riders who had charged to pierce her dropped their lances from their hands. Their fingers became limp; their jaws hung slack; and their eyes, which had been small and red with the lust of blood, opened wide and round like the eyes of little children who look upon a queen’s golden wagon. A great, burning ache of homesickness fell upon their ribs—they remembered their mothers’ singing by the hearth-stones; they remembered the smell of rain upon the summer rye; they remembered the peace that they had lost when they first took up the robber’s dagger. They slid down from their wooden saddles, falling upon their knees in the sharp stones, weeping so bitterly that their tears washed clean tracks through the lime-dust upon their cheeks.
Then Sardar-Qara’s beard bristled with fury, for he felt a strange, soft warmth creeping into his own throat, like the heat of spiced wine, and his iron maul grew heavy as a hill in his fist. Sorcery! he shrieked, his voice cracking like dry kindling. The witch hath woven a web of honey to choke our spears! Archer-men! Loose upon her! Shoot the painted face until it looketh like a hedgehog!
Thirty bowmen drew their horn bows to the ear, loosing a whistling shower of iron-tipped hunting arrows straight at the maiden’s throat!
Bibi Mastana did not lift a buckler.
She crossed her two hands over her veiled breast in the posture of the dervish surrender.
Behold! The Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud arose!
Without a sound, an instantaneous, shimmering mist of pink-and-amber light unfolded twenty cubits around her. When the cloud of arrows struck that spiritual mirage, five-and-twenty parts of their tearing speed were swallowed up into the shimmering air, as a stone is swallowed by a deep pool; the remaining shafts were seduced away from her flesh by the sinuous fluttering of the blush silk and the glittering dance of the silver droplets, glancing off the cold-hammered silver chains and falling harmlessly into the shale like dry pine-twigs!
The archers lowered their bows, their knees knocking together in awe, whisper-talking among themselves: No arrow can find her, for the air loveth her too well to bite!
Then Sardar-Qara, seeing his army melting away like grease before the hearth, leaped down from his black stallion, his two hands gripping the spiked maul. He stumbled through the scree, his boots slipping upon the shale, roaring curses so foul that the crows fled from the rocks, intending to bring the iron head down upon the crown of her head and crush both the spinel and the skull into a single red paste!
The maiden arose from the unworked stone.
She did not draw a dagger from her fleece. She unhooked the ninety-and-nine beads of rosewood and mutton-fat jade from her temple chain, letting them slide through her fingers; and she began to turn.
She stepped with her bare feet upon the sharp gravel, and she began to pace that sacred, spiraling circle which the ancient scrolls call The-Samā’-of-the-Incurable-Longing.
With every turn of her skirts, the four-and-twenty silver sequins chimed against the tourmaline tears with a delicate, ringing shiver-chime; with every breath she drew, her thumb moved a bead along the silk cord; and through the blush-rose veil she began to chant the ancient ghazals of the soul’s exile from the Beloved. Her voice rose into the mountain wind, climbing like the song of a lark into the high blue ether, sweet, mournful, and so piercingly beautiful that the stones of the gorge seemed to soften their edges to listen.
For ten continuous minutes she danced the spiral, weaving an invisible circle of fifty cubits around the pass.
And as the fragrance of the rose-attar and the ambergris expanded with her turning, a strange and miraculous sorrow fell upon the nine hundred warriors of the iron host.
The iron maul slipped from the fingers of Sardar-Qara, striking his boot with a hollow thud, yet he did not feel the pain. He stood frozen in the middle of the path, his great chest heaving, his mouth working without words. For as he looked upon the maiden’s veiled face—seeing the deep raspberry fire of the spinel shining like an eye that had witnessed all his cruelty and forgiven it—the thick crust of stone that had encased his soul for forty winters split from crown to root. He saw all the villages he had burned; he saw all the mothers whose sons he had slaughtered; he saw the black desert of his own empty life; and he fell down upon his face in the dirt, clutching the hem of her fleece cloak with his hairy, calloused hands, sobbing with the terrible, racking weeping of a strong man whose heart hath been broken in two.
Behind him, nine hundred hardened horsemen threw down their flint lances, their spiked maces, and their flaying-knives. The sound of weapons falling upon the stones was like the hail of winter, yet there was no war-cry. Strong men wept upon one another’s necks, begging forgiveness for old offenses; the drivers of the pitch-wagons unhooked the draft-oxen and led them to the roadside to graze; and the fierce horses buried their muzzles in the wild clover that grew beside the trail, their eyes gentle as sheep.
When the ninety-ninth bead of white jade clicked against the silver spacer disc, Bibi Mastana ceased her turning.
She looked down upon the trembling, weeping warlord whose back was bowed at her feet.
She unpinned the small rock-crystal vial of rose-attar from her right temple, and she poured three drops of the clear, fragrant oil upon the gray, matted hair of his crown, saying these poorly translated words: Rise up, O hunter of shadows, and take off thy shoes, for the blood upon thy boots hath dried, and the earth whereon thou standest is made sweet. Thou thoughtest to take the valley with iron wedges and fire, knowing not that the heart of man cannot be filled with ashes. The wolf seeketh to tear the lamb because he knoweth not the shepherd; but when the scent of the rose-garden is blown across his path, he forgetteth his teeth and remembereth his home. Go now down to the orchards. Cast thy iron maul into the furnace, and beat it into seven pruners for the mulberry vines and ten mattocks for the water-ditches. For the sword may conquer an acre of dust for a single night, yet in the morning the grass groweth green over the graves; but he who conquereth the soul with the beauty of the Beloved hath won an empire that the turnings of the sky cannot overthrow.
And the chronicle recordeth that Sardar-Qara arose, his eyes red with weeping, his hands clean of weapons; and he and his nine hundred horsemen went down into the valley of Bagh-i-Nīlūfar not as conquerors, but as apprentices to the weavers and the rose-growers. They built houses of dressed river-slate; they planted forty thousand cuttings of the sweet Damask rose; and their iron horses grew fat drawing the stone-boats along the irrigation canals.
And Bibi Mastana did not take the seat of honor in the palace, nor did she marry a king. She took off the blush-rose veil, hanging it in a chest of camphor-wood in the library of the dervish lodge, that those tier 1 avatars who should follow after her—who must walk among violent chieftains, proud courtiers, and armed raiders—might put on the mantle of the chiseled beauty, draw the eyes of the wrathful away from destruction, and entice the savage hearts of Saṃsāra into the quiet pastures of enduring peace.
The moral of the story is that the violent will, the threats of brute iron, and the hard arrogance of the conqueror are clumsy, blind impulses born of an unquenched spiritual starvation, whereas the quiet radiance of true beauty, gentle humility, and the alluring grace of divine love possess the irresistible power to disarm the deadliest wrath, melt the hardest hearts, and turn the most destructive fury into a willing instrument of healing, reconciliation, and peace.

- Structural Materials: Woven from split raw mulberry silk and golden flax, kettle-dyed in wild mountain pomegranate blossoms, saffron stigmas, and madder root to an iridescent blush-rose hue. Anchored to the temples by delicate, articulated native silver chains lined with paper-thin mountain gazelle suede. The brow-band is embroidered in fine annealed silver wire with calligraphic verses and motifs of moths circling a desert rose. Set over the nasal bridge in a four-prong silver filigree mount is a teardrop cabochon of Badakhshan spinel (Lāl-i Badakhshān) measuring one and a half inches in length. Bedded within a rear cavity in beeswax, aged ambergris, and musk is an uncut Tier 1 magic crystal glowing with an internal peach-and-amber core. Suspended along the lower hem are twenty-four teardrop silver sequins and pink tourmaline beads; the left temple chain supports an unbroken rosary of ninety-nine rosewood and mutton-fat jade beads divided by cold-forged silver spacer discs; the right temple chain carries a miniature rock-crystal vial of concentrated wild mountain rose-attar.
- Physical Protection: Provides 1 point of localized physical armor to the investigator’s face, neck, and throat against stilettos, garrotes, blown darts, and flying shrapnel.
- Mental and Spiritual Toll:
- Initial Binding Ritual: Attuning to the veil requires a successful Art/Craft (Weaving or Calligraphy), Charm, or Occult check during a one-hour seated contemplation while holding the spinel cabochon and inhaling the scented silk, accompanied by the expenditure of 1 permanent Magic Point and an immediate Sanity check (0/1D3 Sanity loss) as the investigator aligns their emotional pulse with the station of divine love (al-Wadūd).
- Aromatic Grounding: The continuous, warm fragrance of wild mountain rose-attar and ambergris soothes the nervous system, reducing any Sanity loss suffered from witnessing grotesque deformities, corpse decay, or social betrayal by 1 point (to a minimum of 0).
- Passive Modifiers and Inherent Capabilities:
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze: The investigator receives one Bonus Die on Appraise, Charm, Fast Talk, Insight, Persuade, and Psychology rolls made to detect emotional vulnerabilities, uncover concealed motives, or entice humanoids within 10 yards. In addition, the investigator intuitively reads which topic or gesture will disarm an adversary’s suspicion.
- Purity of the Enamored Breath: The investigator is completely immune to the nauseating effects of sewer miasmas, toxic swamp gases, rotting corpse stench, and inhaled chemical irritants. Hostile humanoids within 2 yards experience a subtle calming effect and suffer one Penalty Die on surprise attacks or sudden assaults directed at the wearer.
- Sinuous Allure: Ranged projectile attacks, throwing knives, and stiletto thrusts directed at the investigator’s head or throat suffer one Penalty Die, as the fluttering silk hem and shimmering silver sequins draw precision strikes away from vital areas. The investigator receives one Bonus Die on rolls made to resist Intimidation or taunts.
- Active Spells and Arcane Operations:
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Magic Point Cost: 2 Magic Points.
- Casting Time: 1 combat round (executed by lightly touching the spinel with the fingertips, parting the veil, and vocalizing the melodic invocation Yā Wadūd).
- Resolution: Discharges an expanding wave of warm peach-and-rose light across a 10-yard radius (expanding to 20 yards if the target’s true name or title is spoken). The investigator targets up to three hostile humanoids within range. Each target must make an Opposed POW roll against the caster’s POW. On a failure, the target is captivated for 10 minutes: they lower their weapons, refuse to attack the investigator’s party, and step forward peacefully to converse. Any hostile action taken against a captivated target breaks the spell immediately.
- Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud:
- Magic Point Cost: 2 Magic Points.
- Casting Time: 1 combat round (executed as an instantaneous, wordless reaction by crossing both hands over the veiled chest).
- Resolution: Projects an instantaneous refractive mist of pink-amber light across a 5-yard radius. Incoming damage from explosions, thrown bombs, or missile volleys targeting the investigator and adjacent allies is reduced by 25%, dispersing the concussive force through illusory mirages.
- The Samā’ of Longing:
- Magic Point Cost: 5 Magic Points.
- Sanity Cost: 1D3 Sanity points.
- Casting Time: 10 minutes of uninterrupted circular pacing and liturgical throat-chanting while cycling the ninety-nine beads around an enclosed room or campsite (up to 15 yards across).
- Resolution: Sanctifies the area for 24 hours. Any sentient creature entering the perimeter must pass an Extreme POW check or find all impulses toward murder, violence, or treachery suppressed by profound melancholy and longing for peace. Allies within the sanctum gain +20% to all Sanity and Psychology rolls made to resist fear, panic, or mental breakdown. A Fumble (96–100) on the ritual causes the spinel to overheat, dealing 1D4 damage to the investigator’s face and rendering the veil inert for 24 hours.
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- System Drawbacks and Operating Hazards:
- Inescapable Acoustic Chiming: The silver droplets and spacer discs chime with every step. Any Stealth roll made to move quietly suffers one Penalty Die unless the hem is bound with cloth (which suspends the armor bonus and all active powers while bound).
- Luminescent Trail: When active, the jewel and silk cast a distinct raspberry-rose radiance visible in darkness, preventing the wearer from hiding in shadows.
- Scent Marker: The potent floral aroma of wild mountain roses and ambergris lingers in still air, allowing tracking animals or keen-scented entities to follow the investigator without difficulty.

- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Stress Cost: 1 Stress.
- Resolution: The scoundrel touches the spinel cabochon, parts the veil, and vocalizes the melodic phrase Yā Wadūd. When rolling Sway or Attune to halt an escalating standoff or captivate hostile guards, the action gains +1 Effect and the position is treated as Controlled. On a success, up to three hostile humanoids sheath their weapons and step forward peacefully to talk for several minutes, refusing to attack unless provoked.
- Silent Veiled Shroud:
- Stress Cost: 1 Stress.
- Resolution: When the scoundrel or an adjacent crewmate is caught in an area explosion, gas trap, or missile ambush, the scoundrel crosses their hands over the veiled chest wordlessly. The scoundrel improves their resistance roll against the consequence by one step, or reduces the physical harm level by one for all adjacent allies.
- The Samā’ of Longing:
- Stress Cost: 2 Stress.
- Resolution: During free play or downtime, the scoundrel spends 10 minutes pacing a spiraling circle while cycling the ninety-nine beads and chanting verses of divine longing. The scoundrel makes an Attune or Consort roll with +1 Effect; on a success, an enclosed venue (a salon, parlor, or safehouse) is sanctified for the duration of the score. Violence cannot be initiated inside the boundary without the aggressor taking 2 Stress, and crew members resting within recover 1 additional Stress during downtime.
- Complications and Operating Hazards:
- Delicate Chiming: The silver droplets and spacer discs chime continuously during movement. The scoundrel takes -1d to Prowl rolls when moving quietly, unless the hem is muffled (which disables the veil’s armor and special abilities while bound).
- Conspicuous Radiance & Scent: The glowing raspberry spinel and fragrance of mountain roses advance the City Watch or Rival Gang Alert Clock by 1 tick if the user attempts to hide in a secured, unlit, or enclosed space.
Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition / 2024 Revision)
Veil of the Enamored Soul
- Item Header and Properties:
- Item Type: Wondrous Item, face slot.
- Rarity: Uncommon.
- Attunement Requirement: Requires attunement by a bard, cleric, paladin, sorcerer, or warlock, or by any character proficient in Deception, Performance, or Persuasion.
- Armor Class Bonus: While wearing this veil, you gain a +1 bonus to Armor Class against melee attacks targeting the head and throat, and against ranged weapon attacks originating from more than 10 feet away as the shimmering silk misdirects incoming missiles.
- Charges and Fuel Economy:
- Resource Pool: The veil possesses 3 charges. It regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn as the embedded crystal absorbs ambient morning light.
- Fragility Threshold: When you expend the last charge from the veil, roll a d20. On a roll of 1, the interior peach-and-amber crystal fractures along its cleavage lines; the veil permanently loses all active properties and its AC bonus, functioning only as a decorative silk garment until repaired by an artisan.
- Inherent Passive Benefits:
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze: You have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) and Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to discern the emotional vulnerabilities, hidden desires, or concealed motives of humanoids within 30 feet.
- Purity of the Enamored Breath: You are immune to the Poisoned condition caused by inhaled toxins, sewer gases, or nauseating stenches. You have resistance to poison damage from airborne vapors, and hostile humanoids within 5 feet have disadvantage on initiative rolls made against you.
- Sinuous Allure: You have advantage on saving throws against being Charmed, Frightened, or compelled to surrender.
- Active Magical Abilities:
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (1 Charge):
- Action Economy: 1 Action.
- Operational Method: You touch the spinel cabochon with your fingertips, part the veil, and speak the melodic word Yā Wadūd.
- Resolution: An expanding pulse of warm peach-and-rose light washes across a 30-foot emanation (expanding to 60 feet if you speak the target’s true name or title). You choose up to three hostile humanoids within the area. Each target must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or become Charmed by you for 10 minutes. While charmed in this way, the creature is pacified: it lowers its weapons, refuses to take hostile actions against you or your companions, and moves toward you to engage in peaceful parley. This effect ends early for a target if you or your companions deal damage to it or force it to make a saving throw.
- Silent Veiled Shroud (1 Charge):
- Action Economy: 1 Reaction (taken when you or an ally within 15 feet takes damage from an area effect, spell burst, or ranged attack).
- Operational Method: You cross both hands over your veiled chest without speaking.
- Resolution: A shimmering mist of pink-and-amber light manifests instantaneously. The triggering damage is reduced by 25% (or all affected targets gain resistance to the triggering damage, whichever reduces more damage), safely dispersing the kinetic force into the surrounding air.
- The Samā’ of Longing (2 Charges):
- Action Economy: 10-Minute Ritual.
- Operational Method: You pace a slow spiraling circle while chanting verses of divine affection and cycling the ninety-nine beads around an enclosed space (up to a 50-foot-radius sphere).
- Resolution: The area is sanctified for 24 hours. Any creature entering the area must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or have its hostile impulses suppressed: it cannot make an attack roll or cast a spell that deals damage while inside the sphere unless it takes damage first. Allies within the sphere gain advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened, and gain a +1 bonus to death saving throws.
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (1 Charge):
- Drawbacks and Complications:
- Auditory Footprint: The suspended silver droplets and spacer discs chime softly with movement. You have disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to move silently, unless you spend 1 minute tying down the hem with cloth (which suspends the AC bonus and all active features while bound).
- Visible Radiance: When activated, the spinel cabochon sheds dim rose-colored light in a 10-foot radius, making it impossible to remain hidden in darkness.
Knave (2nd Edition)
The Gossamer Veil of Al-Wadūd
- Item Classification and Gear Logistics:
- Item Category: Worn Relic / Courtly Attire (Face Slot).
- Inventory Slots: Occupies 1 Item Slot.
- Armor Defense: Provides +1 Armor Defense to the wearer’s total Armor value, as the reinforced silver chains, dense silk borders, and spinel nose-piece protect the nose, throat, and neck.
- Durability and Quality: Possesses 3 Quality points. If the wearer suffers a critical hit targeting the head or a crushing blow from a falling missile, they may choose to sacrifice 1 Quality point from the veil to absorb 5 points of incoming damage. At 0 Quality, the silver chains snap and the spinel cracks, rendering the relic non-functional until repaired by a jeweler during downtime.
- Inherent Passive Benefits:
- Master Courtier’s Gaze: The wearer automatically detects the emotional vulnerabilities, desires, and vices of any speaking NPC within near range. The wearer gains advantage on all Charisma checks made to persuade, seduce, or avoid combat through parley.
- Scent of the Sanctuary: The wearer is completely immune to the effects of toxic swamp mists, choking smoke, sewer gases, and airborne sickness.
- Misdirecting Shimmer: Ranged missile attacks targeting the wearer suffer a -2 penalty to hit, as the shimmering blush silk and silver droplets blur the target’s exact silhouette.
- Relic Powers and Daily Exploits:
- Call of the Beloved (1/Day):
- Action Economy: 1 Action.
- Operational Method: The wearer touches the red spinel, parts the silk, and vocalizes the melodic phrase Yā Wadūd.
- Resolution: Up to three hostile humanoids within near range must make a WIS save. On a failure, they are enraptured for 10 minutes: they lower their weapons, step forward peacefully, and refuse to attack the wearer or their allies unless attacked first.
- Veiled Shroud (1/Day):
- Action Economy: 1 Reaction (triggered when an explosion, breath weapon, or missile volley strikes the bearer or adjacent allies).
- Operational Method: The wearer crosses their hands over the veiled chest wordlessly.
- Resolution: Absorbs up to 10 points of damage from the triggering blast or ranged attack for the wearer and all companions within near range, scattering the force into pink-amber mirages.
- The Samā’ of Longing (1/Day):
- Action Economy: 1 Exploration Turn (10 minutes).
- Operational Method: The wearer chants verses of divine longing while cycling the ninety-nine beads in a spiraling circle around a room or camp.
- Resolution: The space (up to near range across) is sanctified for 24 hours. No creature may initiate physical violence or attack within the boundary without first passing a WIS save. Allies resting within recover 1 additional Hit Die of health.
- Call of the Beloved (1/Day):
- System Drawbacks:
- Audible Chiming: The silver droplets and spacer discs chime with every movement. Any check made to move silently or surprise foes automatically fails or suffers disadvantage at the referee’s discretion unless the hem is bound with cloth (which suspends the +1 Armor Defense and all daily powers until unbound).
- Unmistakable Presence: The fragrant scent of mountain tea-roses and glowing raspberry stone prevents the wearer from blending into crowds of common laborers or hiding in unlit corridors.
Fate Core and Fate Condensed
The Blush Veil of the Beloved’s Gaze
- Core Aspect:
- Name: Blush Veil of the Beloved’s Gaze
- Description: A diaphanous face-veil and temple-circlet crafted from split raw mulberry silk and golden flax, kettle-steeped in wild pomegranate blossoms, saffron stigmas, and madder root to produce an iridescent sunrise-blush drape. The fabric is anchored to the temples by delicate, articulated native silver chains lined with skived mountain gazelle suede, embroidered along the brow with fine annealed silver wire depicting calligraphic ghazals and fluttering moths circling a desert rose. Set over the bridge of the nose is a teardrop cabochon of Badakhshan spinel (Lāl-i Badakhshān) housing an uncut Tier 1 magic crystal glowing with an internal peach-and-amber core, bedded in mountain beeswax, aged ambergris, and musk. Suspended along the lower hem are twenty-four teardrop silver sequins and pink tourmaline beads that produce a delicate, continuous shiver-chime; the left temple chain carries a ninety-nine-bead rosary of fragrant rosewood and mutton-fat jade divided by cold-forged silver spacer discs, while the right temple suspends a miniature rock-crystal vial of wild mountain rose-attar.
- Invocation and Compel Dynamics:
- Invoking the Aspect: A character may spend a Fate Point (or invoke freely) when reading the hidden desires and emotional vulnerabilities of others, captivating hostile observers, turning aside sudden stiletto or missile attacks aimed at the throat, pacifying escalating violence in diplomatic or social settings, and resisting intimidation or fear.
- Compelling the Aspect: The gamemaster may offer a Fate Point to compel this aspect when the rhythmic chiming of the silver droplets draws unwanted attention in guarded or quiet areas, when the luminous raspberry-rose glow reveals the wearer in the dark, when the lingering scent of rose-attar allows trackers to follow the character, or when the solemn contemplative vows of the order compel the character to step between warring parties to prevent bloodshed at great personal risk.
- Protective Value and Stunts:
- Sinuous Deflection Guard:
- Mechanics: The silver chains, dense silk borders, and spinel nose-piece grant Armor:1 against physical attacks targeting the face, throat, and neck. In addition, when defending with Athletics against ranged missile attacks or stiletto thrusts, the wearer gains a +2 bonus as the fluttering silk and sparkling sequins misdirect incoming strikes.
- Purity of the Enamored Breath:
- Mechanics: The wearer is completely immune to the effects of inhaling toxic swamp mists, sewer miasmas, corpse decay, and caustic vapors. Opponents in the same zone suffer a -2 penalty on checks to Create an Advantage against the wearer using Fear, Provocation, or Intimidation.
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze:
- Mechanics: The character gains a +2 bonus to Empathy, Rapport, or Deception when attempting to uncover an NPC’s hidden emotional fixations, discern concealed motives, or entice an audience into prolonged, friendly conversation.
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Mechanics: Once per scene, the character may spend an action to touch the spinel cabochon, part the veil, and vocalize the melodic phrase Yā Wadūd, rolling Rapport against Fair (+2) opposition. On a success, up to three hostile NPCs in the zone gain the situation aspect Enamored by the Beloved with one free invoke (two on a style). For the remainder of the scene, affected targets lower their weapons and refuse to attack the wearer or their allies, moving peacefully to converse unless an ally attacks them. Invoking the target’s true name or title grants an immediate free invoke on the aspect.
- Silent Web of the Veiled Shroud:
- Mechanics: Once per scene, when the character or allies in their zone are targeted by an area attack, explosion, or projectile volley, the wearer may spend a Fate Point and cross their hands over the veiled chest as an immediate reaction. This creates a defensive mirage with two free invokes, reducing incoming physical stress from the triggering event by 2 shifts for all friendly targets in the zone.
- The Samā’ of Longing:
- Mechanics: By maintaining ten minutes of continuous chanting while cycling the ninety-nine beads in a spiraling circle around an enclosed room or campsite, the character rolls Rapport or Lore with a +2 bonus. On a success, they establish the situation aspect Sanctuary of Melancholic Peace on the zone with two free invokes. Committing an act of physical violence within this space requires overcoming a Great (+4) obstacle with Will; allies resting inside recover one additional physical or mental stress box.
- Sinuous Deflection Guard:
- System Drawbacks:
- Audible Footprint: The silver droplets and spacer discs chime continuously during movement. Any Stealth roll made to move quietly suffers an automatic -2 penalty unless the hem is bound with cloth (which suspends the armor bonus and all active stunts while muffled).
- Unmistakable Presence: The glowing raspberry stone and rich floral perfume eliminate the possibility of mundane visual concealment in darkness or masking one’s trail from scent-tracking beasts.

- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Complications and GM Intrusions:
- Acoustic Chiming: The silver sequins chime rhythmically with movement, hindering (increasing the difficulty by one step) all tasks related to stealth or silent infiltration.

- Traits: Auditory, Concentrate, Emotion, Exploration, Manipulate, Mental, Primal, Sanctified.
- Frequency: Once per day.
- Effect: You pace a slow spiraling circle while cycling the ninety-nine beads and chanting verses of divine longing, sanctifying an enclosed space (up to a 30-foot emanation) for 24 hours. Up to three hostile humanoids within the template must make a Spirit roll at -2 (or -4 with a raise). On a failure, they become Pacified and Distracted, refusing to attack the wearer or their allies, moving forward peacefully to parley. Anchored to the temples by delicate, articulated native silver chains lined with skived mountain gazelle suede, embroidered along the brow with fine annealed silver wire depicting calligraphic verses and moths circling a desert rose. Centered over the nasal bridge is a teardrop cabochon of Badakhshan spinel (Lāl-i Badakhshān) housing an uncut Tier 1 magic crystal glowing with an internal peach-and-amber core, bedded in mountain beeswax, aged ambergris, and natural musk. The lower hem features twenty-four teardrop silver sequins and pink tourmaline beads that chime softly with movement; the left temple chain supports a ninety-nine-bead rosary of rosewood and mutton-fat jade divided by silver spacer discs, while the right houses a miniature rock-crystal vial of distilled tea-rose attar.

- Purity of the Enamored Breath: Grants complete immunity to inhaled toxins, neuro-chemical gas grenades, pepper spray, sewer miasmas, and airborne corpse stench without requiring an external respirator. Hostile characters within 2 meters suffer a -1 dice pool penalty on surprise tests and sudden ambush attacks directed at the wearer, unsettled by their fragrant, captivating poise.
- Mīzān of the Captivating Gaze: When reading intentions or negotiating socially, the wearer gains 1 point of Edge that must be spent immediately on Con, Influence, or Judge Intentions tests to uncover emotional vulnerabilities, detect deception, or entice metahumans within 10 meters. The wearer intuitively senses the exact words or demeanor needed to soothe hostile suspicion.
- Sinuous Allure: Ranged projectile and firearms attacks targeting the wearer from more than 3 meters away suffer a -1 dice pool penalty, as the fluttering blush silk and glittering silver sequins blur the wearer’s precise physical silhouette. The wearer receives a +2 dice pool bonus on Composure tests to resist Intimidation or taunts.
- Active Magical Operations:
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Action Economy: Major Action.

- Resolution: Discharges an expanding wave of warm peach-and-rose light across a 10-meter radius (expanding to 20 meters if the target’s true corporate ID, street name, or ancestral title is spoken). The user targets up to three hostile metahumans. The caster rolls Sorcery + Magic against each target’s Willpower + Intuition. On net hits, the targets are captivated for 10 minutes: they lower their weapons, refuse to attack the wearer’s team, and advance peacefully to parley. If the caster or an ally attacks a captivated target, the effect breaks immediately.

- Action Economy: Minor Action to prepare, followed by an immediate Reaction upon being targeted by an explosion, grenade blast, or missile volley.
- Operational Method: The user crosses both hands over their veiled chest without speaking.

Incoming physical, concussive, or blast damage (DV) from the triggering event is reduced by 2 points (or 25%, whichever reduces more damage) for the wearer and all adjacent team members, safely scattering the blast force into shimmering optical mirages.
- The Samā’ of Longing:
- Action Economy: Extended Ritual requiring 10 continuous minutes of spiraling movement and throat-chanting while cycling the ninety-nine beads.
- Resolution: The caster rolls Enchanting + Magic against Threshold 3. On a success, an enclosed area up to 15 meters across is sanctified for 24 hours. Any metahuman entering the sanctum must beat Threshold 2 on a Willpower + Logic test or find all aggressive impulses suppressed by melancholy and a desire for peace, rendering them unable to draw a weapon or initiate violence. Allies resting within the sanctum gain 1 bonus Edge on Healing tests.
- Somatic Enticement Cadence (Call of the Beloved):
- Operational Hazards and System Drawbacks:
- Audible Ticking Footprint: The suspended silver droplets and spacer discs chime softly with physical movement. Any Stealth test made to move silently suffers an automatic -2 dice pool penalty unless the hem is bound with cloth (which suspends the Defense Rating bonus and all active powers while bound).
- Astral Luminescence: The peach-and-rose glow of the spinel projects an active Force 2 astral signature, making the wearer instantly visible to astral observers and dual-natured entities.
- Scent Marker: The fragrance of wild mountain tea-roses and ambergris lingers in unventilated rooms and downwind corridors, granting scent-tracking hounds and bio-sniffers a +2 dice pool bonus to follow the wearer.
- Catalyst Fracture Risk: If the caster suffers a Critical Glitch while activating an active power or channeling magic through the focus, the internal crystal fractures, rendering the veil inert until repaired by a talismonger.
