Lore
Crafted within the martial armories of the Golden Dawn temples across Saṃsāra, this curved ceremonial dagger was commissioned for temple guardians and ritual wardens aligned with the fifth sephirah of Geburah (Strength, Severity, and Judgment). In Hermetic discipline, martial severity is not the wanton destruction of the adversary, but the precise surgical removal of their capacity for violence. Initiates carried this ritual blade into duels and temple breaches to shatter the violent intent of hostile aggressors, hook and wrench steel from dishonorable hands, and execute divine restraint through geometric leverage.
Description
A ten-inch curved parrying athame forged of crucible steel, chemically treated to a deep volcanic red patina. The inner spine features an open, recurved bronze sword-breaker notch near the forte, flanked by engraved Hebrew characters of the divine name Elohim Gibor and the pentagram of Mars. Its crossguard is cast in heavy bell-bronze, terminating in downward-curving quillons designed to trap and twist incoming blades. The grip is wrapped in hardened red ray-skin bound with brass wire, balanced by a heavy octagonal iron pommel that delivers swift, non-lethal strikes to the nerve clusters of an enemy’s wrist.

Activable Magic
- Assay Martial Fulcrum (Action): The user levels the hooked forte toward an armed adversary within 30 feet and focuses on their weapon hand.
- Effect: For the next 10 minutes, the user perceives the structural balance, fulcrum point, and grip vulnerability of the target’s readied weapon as a glowing red thread around their wrist, granting significant insight into the optimal moment to lever the weapon free.
- Cost: At will (requires line of sight and concentration on one opponent).
- Twist of the Iron Pillar (Reaction / Action): The user traps an opponent’s melee weapon within the bronze sword-breaker hook during close combat and executes a sharp, twisting lever maneuver while invoking the severing judgment of Geburah.
- Effect: The athame discharges an abrupt acoustic crack and an electromagnetic shock that forces open the opponent’s grip, sending their weapon flying up to 10 feet in a direction of the wielder’s choice, leaving the target’s hand spasming and unable to wield heavy weapons for 1 round.
- Cooldown: 3 uses per Long Rest.

Commerce and Acquisition of the Hooked Athame of Geburah
- Martial Lodges and Templar Armories: Located within the fortified redoubts, garrison cloisters, and martial chapterhouses of knightly Hermetic orders across Saṃsāra, these halls smell of coal smoke, machine oil, and whetstone slurry. Armory marshals authenticate the athame by clamping its red steel forte in an iron vise and striking the recurved notch with a heavy bronze training broadsword, listening for the sharp, low acoustic hum that confirms the presence of true Geburic resonance without structural cracking. A martial initiate wishing to surrender an attuned or spare athame receives an official guild script payout of 11 silver pieces credited directly to their muster account. Templar initiates, sworn wardens, and licensed duelists seeking to requisition a consecrated blade must pay the standard armory price of 14 silver pieces, while sworn order commanders in active standing can secure one at a brotherhood rate of 12 silver and 5 copper pieces.
- Fencing Academies and Master Duelist Salles: Nestled within the high aristocratic quarters and dueling grounds of major metropolises, these prestigious salons feature polished parquet floors, chalked balance circles, and velvet-lined display racks. The grandmaster assesses the dagger by testing its weight across an outstretched index finger, ensuring the balance between the octagonal iron pommel and the hooked forte allows for an instant wrist snap into a defensive bind. Selling an athame here yields an immediate professional buyout of 10 silver pieces in formal civic coin. Ambitious young nobles, dueling seconds, and defensive fencers seeking an edge in honor disputes can purchase the weapon for an academy price of 15 silver pieces.
- Bounty Guild Outposts and Peacekeeper Enclaves: Situated near lawless frontier borders, prison towers, and civic watch bastions, these practical establishments cater to bounty hunters, constables, and neutral peacekeepers whose mandate requires capturing targets alive rather than executing them. Guild quartermasters test the athame by striking its notched spine against a wooden cudgel to verify that the kinetic shockwave numbs a test dummy’s articulated hand clamps. Relinquishing an athame to the bounty depot brings a field bounty voucher of 12 silver pieces. Field operatives and marshals requiring a reliable disarming tool for high-risk warrants can acquire one for a standard frontier price of 16 silver pieces.
- Curio Salons and Antique Weapon Vaults: Found in the wealthy trade thoroughfares of grand trade hubs, these opulent antique shops showcase curiosities behind locked glass cases alongside velvet drapery. Proprietors often evaluate the athame purely as an exotic main-gauche or rare ceremonial parrying dagger of distinctive metallurgical styling. An avatar selling the blade for fast, unquestioned funds receives a modest antique dealer payout of 8 silver pieces credited to their bank note. Discerning weapon collectors and wealthy dilettantes browsing the displays can purchase the unauthenticated dagger for a negotiated boutique sum of 13 silver pieces.
- Underworld Fences and Fighting Pit Dens: Hidden beneath the flagged cellars of clandestine fighting arenas, dockside taverns, and illicit gladiatorial rings where blood-sport bets are settled, an implement capable of instantly stripping a champion of their weapon without drawing lethal blood is a prized tactical secret. Pit fixers test the blade by binding it against a jagged iron shiv in the dark to ensure the hook bites deep into crude metal. A rogue duelist or back-alley fighter selling a Geburic athame to an underworld broker bypasses administrative taxes entirely, receiving 19 silver pieces in loose, untraceable coin. Any arena ringer or syndicate enforcer looking to purchase the dagger off the books must pay a steep black-market sum of 24 silver pieces in physical silver.
Tactical and Environmental Applications of the Hooked Athame of Geburah
- Aristocratic Dueling Grounds and Formal Salles: In polished marble arenas where lethal strikes bring political ruin or exile, disarming an opponent with surgical elegance is the ultimate assertion of dominance. Defensively, when a haughty rapier champion lunges with a lethal thrust intended to humiliate, the wielder raises the athame in a tight off-hand guard. The Geometric Parrying Bind instinctively catches the slender foil within the downward quillon, safely deflecting the killing point past the duelist’s shoulder while sending a numbing kinetic ripple into the rival’s fingers. Offensively, the moment the blades lock, the wielder invokes Twist of the Iron Pillar. With a sharp acoustic crack, the bronze hook snaps sideways, ripping the rapier from the noble’s spasming grip and sending it spinning across the flagstones, leaving the humiliated adversary defenseless and forced to yield under the cold judgment of Geburah.
- Cramped Tavern Brawls and Smuggler Dens: In narrow, ale-soaked drinking halls packed with upturned benches and volatile brawlers wielding jagged shivs and heavy cleavers, maneuverability is nearly non-existent. Defensively, when cornered against a wooden keg by an intoxicated brute swinging a cleaver at neck height, the wielder brings the athame across their chest. The curved spine absorbs the violent momentum, deadening the strike and jarring the attacker’s wrist tendons before the blade can bite into flesh. Offensively, recognizing the chaos of the brawl, the wielder activates Assay Martial Fulcrum. Spotting the glowing red thread of balance around a syndicate boss’s blackjack, the wielder steps into the pocket, traps the club in the bronze sword-breaker notch, and levers it out of the enforcer’s hand into the rafters, swiftly subjugating the ringleader without spilling a drop of blood.
- Fortified Frontier Bastions and Prison Cellblocks: Within narrow stone corridors, iron portcullises, and cell blocks where desperate mutineers or escaped convicts threaten order, lethal force risks executing vital witnesses or sparking a massacre. Defensively, when an escaping prisoner rushes an iron threshold with an improvised iron crowbar, the guard snaps the athame outward. The heavy bell-bronze quillons wedge the crowbar tight against the doorframe, checking the prisoner’s forward charge entirely while absorbing the kinetic impact. Offensively, while closing the distance to pacify the ringleader, the guard executes Twist of the Iron Pillar. The athame’s electromagnetic shockwave forces the prisoner’s white-knuckled grip open with a percussive pop, launching the crowbar into the empty corridor and leaving the inmate clutching a numb, spasming wrist while peacekeepers snap iron manacles into place.
- Ancient Dungeon Tombs and Ruined Vaults: Deep within subterranean ruins, skeletal champions, clockwork guardians, and crypt guardians often wield ancient, poison-slicked blades that guarantee death with a single scratch. Defensively, when an animated crypt sentinel delivers a heavy overhead sweep with an archaic broadsword, the adventurer catches the descending steel in the athame’s recurved bronze hook. The Sever the Grip of Wrath resonance pulses up the corroded blade, rattling the sentinel’s articulated joints and blunting its attack momentum before it can land a second swing. Offensively, focusing on the crypt guardian’s mechanical or bone wrist through Assay Martial Fulcrum, the wielder steps under the guard, catches the rusted crossguard in the sword-breaker notch, and wrenches hard. The sudden kinetic torque shatters the skeletal fingers, sending the poisonous ancient relic clattering to the flagstones to be kicked safely down a pit.
- Forest Ambush Trails and Overgrown Wilderness: On dense woodland roads where bandit raiders and highwaymen leap from the brambles with long spears or crude hunting axes, open-field footwork is severely restricted by tangled roots. Defensively, when an ambush leader lunges from the underbrush with a boar spear, the wielder pivots behind a tree trunk, guiding the spear’s iron socket directly into the athame’s curved inner spine. The parry deflects the piercing tip harmlessly into the tree bark, anchoring the bandit’s primary weapon in the timber. Offensively, utilizing the leverage of the bound spear, the wielder immediately invokes Twist of the Iron Pillar. The sudden burst of kinetic judgment snaps the spear haft clean out of the raider’s leather-wrapped hands, shocking the nerves of their arms and leaving the disoriented brigand wide open for a non-lethal strike with the athame’s heavy iron pommel.

Perception of Activation:
- Sight:
- User’s Perspective: The deep volcanic patina of the blade ignites with a fierce, crimson inner luminescence that races along the fuller and pools intensely within the recurved sword-breaker notch. The engraved characters of Elohim Gibor and the pentagram of Mars flare into crisp, glowing orange-red filaments. Looking across the field, the user sees structural stress points and weapon centers of gravity highlighted as taut, vibrating red cords tethered to an adversary’s wrists.
- Observer’s Perspective: Witnesses see the dark red dagger suddenly flash with the vivid hue of molten iron drawn fresh from a furnace. A thin, crackling corona of ruby-red static arcs between the hooked spine and the downward-curving quillons, casting sharp, jagged shadows across the ground.
- Positives: The highlighted balance vectors grant clear, intuitive targeting for parries and weapon-levering maneuvers in low-light conditions.
- Negatives: The stark crimson glow instantly gives away the wielder’s position in darkness, making stealthy infiltration or concealed brandishing impossible.
- Hearing:
- User’s Perspective: A harsh, percussive crack—akin to a dry oak branch snapping under tension or the resonant strike of an iron hammer against cold slate—rings out, accompanied by an immediate acoustic vacuum where ambient shouting and wind seem abruptly flattened.
- Observer’s Perspective: Onlookers hear a sharp, metallic whip-crack that reverberates through the chest, followed by a low, rhythmic iron thrum humming from the blade’s bell-bronze crossguard.
- Positives: The abrupt sound disorients the attacker’s cadence and masks the user’s subtle footwork adjustments.
- Negatives: The percussive report carries easily through stone corridors or across open training yards, alerting nearby sentries to an active clash.
- Smell:
- User’s Perspective: The sharp, acrid scents of struck flint, vaporized sulfur, and hot iron slag flood the nostrils, clearing out stale air with an invigorating, martial sting.
- Observer’s Perspective: Bystanders catch a sudden whiff of scorch marks, burnt oil, and the dry mineral odor of an active blacksmith’s forge.
- Positives: The pungent metallic scent acts as an olfactory stimulant, cutting through soporific vapors or sickening dungeon stenches.
- Negatives: The lingering smell of scorched metal clings to clothing and gear, leaving a recognizable forensic signature.
- Taste:
- User’s Perspective: A dry, electric copper sensation—like holding a clean brass plate or flat battery to the tongue—spreads across the wielder’s mouth, tightening the salivary glands and sharpening focus.
- Observer’s Perspective: Opponents bound in close combat swallow involuntarily as their teeth buzz from airborne galvanic discharge.
- Positives: Suppresses nervous salivation and prevents dry throat panic during life-or-death engagements.
- Negatives: The metallic tang deadens the sense of taste for several minutes, masking the taste of subtle poisons or tainted air.
- Touch:
- User’s Perspective: The ray-skin grip tightens against the palm, vibrating with a rapid, dry pulse of kinetic tension. When an enemy’s blade locks into the notch, the impact feels unnaturally solid—the shock bypasses the user’s wrist entirely, grounding into the octagonal iron pommel.
- Observer’s Perspective: An adversary whose weapon is hooked feels a violent, numbing spasm travel up the hilt of their blade, rattling the joints of their fingers and leaving their forearm deadened.
- Positives: Complete absorption of impact forces prevents the wielder’s wrist from spraining or fatiguing under heavy broadsword or axe strikes.
- Negatives: Prolonged reliance on the blade leaves the palm lightly abraded from the ray-skin’s aggressive galvanic vibration.
- Extra-Sensory Perceptions:
- Fulcrum Vector Intuition:
- User’s Perspective: The wielder perceives the opponent’s physical balance as an interconnected geometric lattice of tension and weakness. The adversary’s grip looks brittle, with the physical fulcrum between hand, hilt, and blade highlighted like a fragile hinge waiting to be snapped.
- Observer’s Perspective: Highly trained duelists or martial sensitives experience a sudden chilling dread that their guard has been mathematically calculated and dismantled before the blow even lands.
- Positives: Guarantees optimal timing for disarming levers, ensuring the minimum exertion of force achieves maximum disarming torque.
- Negatives: Hyper-fixating on the opponent’s weapon hand can cause the user to momentarily lose awareness of secondary hazards, such as an off-hand dagger or environmental pitfall.
- Severing Aura of Geburah:
- User’s Perspective: A severe, unyielding psychic resonance descends over the immediate space, projecting the spiritual reality of cosmic judgment. The wielder perceives their action not as malice, but as an impartial law of restraint—cutting away the adversary’s capacity for violence.
- Observer’s Perspective: Psionic entities or sensitive mages witness an ethereal, descending red pillar of martial geometry locking down the immediate arena, crushing bloodlust into cold shock.
- Positives: Breaks the psychological momentum of berserkers or rage-driven adversaries, replacing feral aggression with startling hesitation.
- Negatives: Wielding the severity of the fifth sephirah leaves the bearer emotionally hardened and abrasive for a short time after combat concludes.
- Fulcrum Vector Intuition:
Fabrication Protocol 49: Hooked Athame of Geburah
- Materials Needed:
- One bar of high-carbon crucible steel (12 inches in length, 2 inches in width).
- One ingot of bell-bronze (copper-tin alloy with high acoustic resonance).
- One block of dense bog iron (for the octagonal counterweight pommel).
- One strip of cured, crimson-dyed ray-skin (shagreen).
- Three yards of high-tensile brass binding wire.
- One dram of cinnabar-infused vitriol (for volcanic patina etching).
- One vial of consecrated martial oil (blended with rue, black pepper, and iron oxide).
- Tools Required:
- One charcoal-fired blacksmith forge with bellows.
- One 100-pound steel anvil with horn and hardy hole.
- One set of forging tongs, cross-peen hammers, and rounding hammers.
- One collection of hardened steel files, rifflers, and rotary burs.
- One quench tank filled with tempered tallow and brine.
- One set of diamond-point carving chisels and chasing punches.
- One acoustic tuning fork or resonant iron striker.
- Skill Requirements:
- Bladesmithing / Weaponsmithing: Rank 3 or higher.
- Martial Alchemy / Chemical Patination: Rank 2 or higher.
- Esoteric Runecraft / Theurgy: Rank 2 or higher.
- Bronze Casting / Fine Metallurgy: Rank 1 or higher.
- Crafting Steps:
- Heat the high-carbon crucible steel to cherry red, forging a curved, single-edged dagger blank measuring ten inches along the spine with an integral full tang.
- Hot-chisel the primary recurved sword-breaker notch into the inner spine at the forte, tapering the hook inward to create a secure, mechanical binding gap for enemy blades.
- True the flats and edge geometries on the anvil, filing the main cutting bevel while leaving the notched spine robust and blunt to withstand direct weapon impacts.
- Cast the crossguard from bell-bronze using the lost-wax method, forming the downward-curving quillons that sweep toward the blade to trap parried weapons.
- Mill and file an octagonal pommel out of the bog iron block, boring a central hole to serve as the threaded counterweight for the tang.
- Normalize the blade through three descending thermal cycles, then heat it to critical temperature and quench it in the brine-tallow tank to achieve an edge hardness of 58 HRC while preserving spring temper in the hooked spine.
- Submerge the polished steel blade into the bath of cinnabar-infused vitriol, baking the chemical layer until a durable, deep volcanic-red patina bonds permanently to the steel.
- Chiseled-inscribe the divine name Elohim Gibor along the fuller and chase the pentagram of Mars into the flat of the forte beneath the trapping notch.
- Fit the bronze crossguard onto the shoulders of the tang, wrap the core with crimson ray-skin, and bind it tightly with counter-coiled brass wire.
- Thread the octagonal iron pommel onto the peened end of the tang, tightening it until striking the bronze quillons causes the blade to ring with a clear, sustained metallic pitch.
- Anoint the finished athame with the consecrated martial oil at sunset or dawn on a Tuesday, vibrating the formula of Geburah to spiritually seal the parrying channels.
Broken Iron Beak and Red Hook of Five-Fold Severity, Wherein Great Breaker of Gates Wept Without His Iron Cleaver
In the elder cycle of Saṃsāra, when the mountains had not yet grown their coats of green moss and the stars did shake like cold peas in a dry gourd, there dwelt in the high basalt fastness of Zur-Nammu a warlord of great gristle whose name upon the burnt bricks was Lord Khorsa-Karn, the Red Boar of the Crags. He was a master of seventy-and-seven iron-smiths, and nine hundred slaves who did dig lead out of the belly of the hills, and forty chariots of ash-wood whose axle-pins were smeared with bear-grease so that they did screech like dying hawks when they rolled into the barley-fields.
Now Khorsa-Karn possessed an iron chopper of great evil, forged from a dark stone that fell out of the sky when the moon was sick. It was named The Gate-Biter, and its weight was that of a yearling heifer. It had neither brass wire nor silver cord, but only a broad belly of black iron that had drunk the grease of twelve hundred men. It was the boast of Khorsa-Karn: “Where my iron chopper falleth, the wall falleth; where my iron chopper biteth, the mother throweth dust upon her hair; if the sky should fall down like a wet cloth, my chopper would cleave it into two blankets for my hounds!”
In the ninth turning of his kingship, Khorsa-Karn looked down from his high basalt gate upon the lower valley of Hermon, where the initiates of the Temple of the Red Column did prune their pomegranates and bake flat cakes of rye upon hot river-stones. These monks were keepers of the Fifth Gate, which is the Gate of Geburah, where the severe fire of the cosmos cleanseth away the proud horns of bulls.
Khorsa-Karn spake to his chariot-men: “The monks of the rye-cakes have silver flagons in their cellars, and their robes are woven from the wool of lambs that have tasted salt. We shall ride down like stones falling from a cliff; we shall break their gate-posts with The Gate-Biter; we shall make them carry our lead-sacks until their knees turn backward like the legs of storks!”
The drums of wild bull-skin were beaten; the bear-grease was poured upon the axles; the forty chariots descended the stony path with a sound like a mountain sliding into a lake. Before the noon had passed, the dust of the iron-shod wheels did settle upon the pomegranate-gardens, turning the green leaves grey like ashes.
At the red gate of the temple there stood no host of spearmen, nor was there any trench of sharp stakes dug into the loam. There stood only one brother—an elder of lean ribs whose name was Brother Ab-Ramon, who held in his left fist neither shield of bronze nor willow basket, but only a slender, crooked leaf of red metal, ten fingers long, having a hook like the beak of a kite-bird at its root and a heavy knob of rough bog-iron at its tail. The blade was red like the dried blood of a bull upon a hot brick, and along its spine was carved the five-fold sign of the iron star and the terrible name: Elohim Gibor.
When Khorsa-Karn saw the lean monk standing alone by the wooden post, his laughter shook his iron kilt like wind in a bush of dry briars: “Behold the hedge-priest! He cometh out to meet my iron chopper with a shoe-maker’s paring knife! If I swing The Gate-Biter, his knife shall be turned into iron meal, and his ribs shall make twelve trenchers for my swine!”
The warlord leaped from his ash-wood cart. The stones of the valley groaned beneath his boots of boiled leather. He took his iron chopper in both hands—hands that were hairy like the paws of bears—and raised it above his left ear. The shadow of the black blade was like the shadow of a vultures’ wing cast over a sleeping lamb.
Brother Ab-Ramon did not close his eyelids, nor did he shift his sandals upon the pomegranate dust. He held the curved red athame horizontally across his chest, the downward quillon pointing toward the gravel, the inner hook open like the throat of a marsh-eel. He drew his breath through his teeth with a sound like salt thrown into a brazier, and he vibrated within his marrow the formula of the Left Hand of Heaven: Sever the branch that beareth only thorns; cast down the horn that lifteth itself against the plumb-line!
Khorsa-Karn brought down The Gate-Biter with the fury of a rock tumbled from a precipice!
The blow was meant to split the priest from the parting of his beard to the hempen knot of his girdle. But behold! The slender red leaf did not break!
Brother Ab-Ramon did not meet the black chopper upon the edge; he moved the bronze crossguard three barley-corns to the left, catching the whistling descent of the black iron in the soft curve of the bronze horn. The downward rush of the great axe was turned aside like water striking the snout of a swimming otter. With a sound like a brass kettle struck by an arrow, the broad blade slid screeching into the recurved notch of the athame’s spine!
The two metals met: the sky-iron of the murderer and the consecrated red steel of the severity.
In that very breath, the athame spat forth an orange crackle of fire that smelled of hot brimstone and struck iron. A terrible shiver—like the stroke of a wet rod upon a bare shin—ran up the ash-haft of The Gate-Biter. The fingers of Khorsa-Karn, which were like roots of mountain oak, were seized with a sudden cold palsy! His tendons went slack like rotted twine; his thumbs were wrenched backward until they struck his knuckles with a hollow click!
Brother Ab-Ramon did not strike at the warlord’s neck; he did not thrust at the hairy throat. He snapped his left wrist with a turn of the geometrical compass—a turn of forty-and-five degrees, inward and up, toward the sign of the Red Star.
CRACK!
The sound was not the breaking of bone, but the severing of the grip of pride!
The Gate-Biter leaped from the warlord’s numb claws like a living trout leaping from a wet basket. It turned four times in the clear midday sun, high above the pomegranate trees, and plunged headlong into the soft silt of the irrigation ditch, buried up to its ash-wood grip in black river-mud!
Khorsa-Karn looked upon his empty paws. His great thumbs twitched like dying beetles; his forearms were numb and grey like cold mutton-tallow. He fell upon his knees in the dust, not from the wound of a point, but from the sudden, frightful emptiness of his fists. For seventy years he had known himself only as the arm that held the iron; and now, the iron being plucked away without a drop of blood, he was only a fat, bald grandfather shivering in an iron skirt, having no teeth to bite and no words to speak.
The forty chariot-men in the ash-carts looked upon the empty-handed king and the red knife in the monk’s fist. A great coldness fell upon their livers; for they saw that the monk had not used wrath against wrath, but had measured their lord’s violence with a rule of iron balance, and found it wanting.
One by one, the bronze spears clattered into the loam. The chariot-drivers turned the heads of their mules back toward the crags, leaving Lord Khorsa-Karn weeping in the mud of the pomegranate ditch, his beard soaked with the water of the ditch, unable even to wipe his own chin with his palsied hands.
Brother Ab-Ramon sheathed the hooked athame beneath his hempen sash, turned his back upon the kneeling king, and returned to the quiet pruning of his trees; and it is written that The Gate-Biter remained in the mud of the ditch until the water rusted it into red clay, which the village women dug up to make cooking pots that never broke over the fire.
Moral of the Story: He who placeth all his glory in the weight of his weapon and the ferocity of his blow shall find that an ounce of disciplined geometry and the severing rule of righteousness can unseat the heaviest engine of pride; for when the violent hand is emptied of its steel without the shedding of blood, the tyrant is shown to be but an infant in armor, and the iron that was forged to enslave the earth is turned at last to earthen pots for the poor.

- Twist of the Iron Pillar: Up to 3 times per day, when you make a melee attack roll or successfully parry a blow, you can execute a sudden levering twist. Make an opposed Strength check against the target. On a success, the enemy’s held weapon is ripped from their grip and flies 10 feet away. The kinetic shock inflicts 1 point of direct Stamina damage and renders that hand unusable for 1 round.

Unique Extra / Martial Esoteric Parrying Blade
- Aspects:
- Function Aspect: Sword-Breaker of the Severe Sephirah
- Flaw Aspect: Demands Close-Quarters Restraint Over Brutality
- Skills:
- Grants an effective rating of Fair (+2) to Fight exclusively when creating advantages through parrying, binding blades, or disarming adversaries in melee exchanges.
- Stunts:
- Geometric Parrying Bind (Passive): When you succeed with style on a defend action using Fight against an armed melee attack, you may choose to take a boost or attach the situational aspect Blade Bound in the Notch to the attacker with one free invoke instead of reducing stress.
- Sever the Grip of Wrath (Passive): You gain a +2 bonus to Fight rolls when actively creating an advantage or overcoming an obstacle to disarm an opponent whose weapon is already caught in your guard.
- Twist of the Iron Pillar: Once per scene, when you successfully defend against a melee weapon attack or invoke an advantage related to a bound blade, you may spend a Fate Point to deliver a jarring kinetic twist. The opponent’s weapon is torn from their hand and launched into an adjacent zone, creating the aspect Numbed and Disarmed with one free invoke.

Geburah Levering Athame
Level 2 Artifact (Depletion: 1 in 1d20)
- Form: A ten-inch curved parrying dagger of crimson-treated alloy with an open bronze sword-breaker notch along the forte, downward-sweeping quillons, and a dense, faceted iron pommel.
- Effect:
- Geometric Bind (Passive): While wielded in hand, all Speed defense tasks against armed melee attacks are eased by one step.
- Numbing Counter (Passive): Whenever you succeed on a Speed defense roll against an armed melee strike by two or more steps, the attacker’s weapon hand spasms, easing your next physical attack or maneuvering task against them by one step.
- Assay Martial Fulcrum (Action): The user studies an armed creature within immediate range. Tasks to analyze the target’s fighting rhythm, identify leverage points, or execute a disarm against that creature are eased by two steps for the next ten minutes.
- Twist of the Iron Pillar (Action): The user locks an adversary’s melee weapon in the notch and wrenches it free with a surge of kinetic torque. The user attempts a Speed or Might task against the target’s level; on a success, the weapon is ripped away and thrown up to short range, and the target takes 2 points of ambient damage from the nerve shock, hindering their physical tasks for one round.

Athame of Geburah
Minor Arcane Weapon (Novice)
- Description: A ten-inch curved parrying dagger treated with a crimson chemical sheen, fitted with an integrated bronze blade-trapping hook and an octagonal iron pommel. It turns the violent momentum of enemy strikes into disruptive disarming leverage.
- Arcane Mechanics:
- Damage: Str+d4, AP 1, Parry +1.
- Power Points: Contains 5 Power Points that recharge at a rate of 1 per hour. Anyone with the Fighting skill can utilize its abilities.
- Trapping Notch (Passive): The dagger grants +1 to Parry when wielded in an off-hand. When an opponent rolls a Critical Failure on a melee Fighting attack against the wielder, their weapon is automatically caught in the notch, leaving them Distracted.
- Assay Martial Fulcrum: Costs 1 Power Point. As a free action, the wielder spends a round reading the balance of an armed adversary within 6 paces (12 yards). The user adds +2 to their next Fighting roll made to execute a Disarm maneuver against that foe.
- Twist of the Iron Pillar: Costs 2 Power Points. As an instant reaction following a successful parry (or as part of a standard Disarm action), the wielder channels kinetic severity through the hilt. The target must make an immediate Strength roll at -2 (opposing the wielder’s Fighting roll). On a failure, the weapon is ripped from their grip and flies 2d4 paces away, and the sudden nerve shock leaves the target Vulnerable until the end of their next turn.
