The Legend of Soothing Rock that Eases Hurt
Long time in ago-times, village of Espera know much hurt. Rock-bite men dig in dark-below and flesh-weary. Woman who whispers to spirits, named Merila, eyes heavy with years and knowing, say “Enough!”
She take stone soft-like-skin and sing to it with hand touches. Put green-leaf and skin-of-tree in water of gods. Make stone breathe out smell of Mother Earth, and take away bite of life-hard.
Village soon feel stone magic. Rock-bite men laugh, children run, old ones dance. Stone live in center-heart of village, warmth like sun-hug. But not all happy. Man from outside, greed in eyes, want stone. Say, “Give, or fire will eat village.”
Merila, wisdom heavy, give him stone. Man laugh, leave. But stone no warm, no smell. Stone dead. Merila make another, hide it well, village again laugh, children again run, old ones again dance.
Then, fire come. Man keep promise. But Merila last laugh. Take out hidden stone, speak old words. Fire turn away, like river change course. Man no more, stone stay.
Moral: Wisdom and sacrifice stronger than greed. Stone of heart more than stone in hand.
