Myriapoda Aves 402

This feral entity is a chimeric fusion of four distinct classes:

  • Diplopoda (Millipedes): Represented by the Giant African Millipede.
  • Gastropoda (Snails/Slugs): Represented by the Cone Snail.
  • Insecta (Insects): Represented by the Praying Mantis.
  • Anthozoa (Corals/Anemones): Represented by the Sea Anemone.

Appearance

The Myriapoda-Aves 402 is a nightmare of segmented architecture and soft, stinging fringes. It possesses a long, tubular body encased in high-gloss, midnight-blue chitinous rings. Instead of a single head, its anterior segment is a cluster of swaying, translucent anemone tentacles that hide a retractable, harpoon-like proboscis. Two massive, serrated raptorial forelegs—mimicking the praying mantis—fold tightly against its chest, ready to snap forward. Its underside is a single, muscular gastropod foot lined with hundreds of tiny, vestigial millipede legs that ripple in sync to provide traction on any surface.

Size and Speed

  • Size: 9 feet long; 3 feet wide; weighs 600 lbs.
  • Speed: 15 mph (Sliding/Crawling), 40 mph (Burst Lunge).

Stat Modifiers

  • Strength: +2 (Powerful gripping forelegs)
  • Dexterity: +4 (Lightning-fast striking speed)
  • Constitution: +5 (Dense chitin and regenerative soft tissue)
  • Intelligence: -4 (Purely instinctual)
  • Wisdom: +3 (Hypersensitive to chemical traces and vibrations)
  • Charisma: -5 (Utterly alien and revolting)

Skills

  • Neurotoxic Harpoon: Can fire its proboscis up to 10 feet, delivering a Tier 2 paralytic toxin.
  • Adhesive Surface-Climb: Can move across ceilings or vertical glass with zero risk of falling.
  • Chemical Tracking: Can follow the scent of an avatar’s “Soul-Signature” across miles of industrial wasteland.
  • Stinging Fringe: Any creature touching the anterior tentacles takes immediate acid/poison damage.

Behavior

The 402 is a Patient Stalker. It mimics the appearance of large, discarded industrial pipes or decorative coral formations in underwater ruins. It remains motionless for days until a vibration triggers its raptorial response. Once it strikes, it does not let go, dragging its paralyzed prey into its central mass to be slowly digested by its stinging fringe.

Diet

Liquivore: It injects digestive enzymes into its prey via its proboscis and consumes the resulting nutrient slurry. It is particularly attracted to the high-magic mineral content found in the bones of Tier 1 avatars.

Emotions

Driven by Void-Like Patience and Territorial Hunger. It feels no fear or anger, only a binary state of “Wait” or “Consume.”

Environment

Found in Submerged Industrial Ruins and Steam-Damp Basements of the 73 island countries. It thrives where the air is thick with condensation and magic runoff.

Life Cycle and Development of the Myriapoda-Aves 402

The life cycle of a 402 is a strange progression from a soft, vulnerable polyp to a heavily armored industrial terror.

  • The Spawning (Polyp Phase): Females release thousands of microscopic, stinging polyps into flooded basement runoff. These polyps attach to rusted metal surfaces, feeding on magic-saturated rust and mineral deposits for one year.
  • The Chitinous Hardening: Once a polyp reaches the size of a human fist, it begins to secrete the midnight-blue chitin that forms its rings. It develops its first set of millipede-legs and begins to roam the local plumbing in search of organic meat.
  • The Molting Crawl: Throughout its life, the 402 must periodically shed its front-most chitinous ring to allow the anemone-head and mantis-arms to grow larger. During this 24-hour period, it is soft and hides deep within ventilation ducts.
  • Adulthood: Upon reaching 9 feet in length, it becomes a Tier 2 threat. Its metabolic rate slows significantly, allowing it to remain stationary for weeks without food.

Mating and Chemical Warfare

The 402 does not possess sight or sound, so its mating rituals are entirely chemical and tactile.

  • The Pheromone Trail: A fertile 402 secretes a thick, iridescent slime that carries a unique “Soul-Signature” pheromone. This slime trail can corrode copper pipes over time, leaving a literal “path of ruin” for mates to follow.
  • The Tactile Knot: When two 402s meet, they entwine their long bodies in a complex knot. They use their stinging tentacles to “taste” the genetic viability of the partner. If one is found weak, the stronger individual may choose to consume the other instead of mating.
  • Egg Deposition: The eggs are laid in “Pipe-Clutches”—hardened, calcified masses that resemble industrial welds or mineral buildup on the exterior of steam boilers.

Combat Tactics and Maneuvers

As a Stationary Mimic, the 402 relies on the environment of Saṃsāra to bring its prey within striking distance.

  • The Pipe Mimicry: By coiling tightly around a vertical steam pipe and pulling its tentacles inward, the 402 is indistinguishable from a section of heavy-duty industrial plumbing. It waits for an avatar to attempt a “Repair” or “Search” action on the pipe.
  • Harpoon Drag: The creature fires its neurotoxic proboscis to snag a target. Once the harpoon attaches, it uses its muscular gastropod foot to anchor itself and reels the victim toward its acidic stinging fringe.
  • Serrated Snap: If a target gets within 5 feet, the mantis-like forelegs snap forward with enough force to shear through Tier 1 leather armor.

Actions in Combat

  • Neurotoxic Proboscis (Range 10 ft.): The creature makes a ranged attack. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 piercing damage and must succeed on a Constitution Save or be Paralyzed for 1 minute. The creature can reel the paralyzed target 5 feet closer each turn.
  • Stinging Embrace: If a creature starts its turn in a grapple with the 402 or touches its head-tentacles, it takes 2d6 acid damage.
  • Raptorial Strike: A melee attack using the serrated forelegs. It deals 2d10 slashing damage and the target is Restrained as the legs lock around them.

Other Interesting Information

  • Soul-Signature Scent: The 402 is one of the few feral creatures that can “smell” the Isekai origin of an avatar. It can distinguish between a “Native” of Saṃsāra and a “Traveler” by the unique mana-radiance of their soul.
  • Industrial Symbiosis: In some megacities, 402s are actually tolerated in the deepest sewer levels because they consume harmful magic-sludge and invasive vermin that would otherwise clog the city’s steam-filtration systems.
  • Reagent Harvesting: The “harpoon” is a single-use biological structure that the creature regrows. A harvested, intact harpoon can be used by an Alchemist to create a Tier 2 Paralytic Coating for arrows or daggers.

In the industrial landscapes of Saṃsāra, a party of adventurers rarely seeks out the Myriapoda-Aves 402 for the thrill of the hunt. Instead, encounters are driven by the high demand for its unique biological components or the critical need to maintain the city’s steam-infrastructure.

Reasons for Encounter or Search

  • Alchemical Harpoon Extraction: The most common reason to track a 402 is to harvest its neurotoxic proboscis. Master Alchemists and Tier 2 Assassins pay a high price in Rhodium for intact harpoons. These are used to craft Paralytic Coatings and high-grade tranquilizers used for capturing dangerous bounties alive.
  • Plumbing and Steam Maintenance: Because the 402 is a stationary mimic that coils around industrial pipes, they frequently block the flow of steam in skyscraper basements. A “Pipe-clog” caused by a 9-foot chimeric beast can lead to pressure build-ups that threaten to explode entire city blocks. Maintenance crews often hire adventurers to “de-clog” these vital lines.
  • Armor and Shield Crafting: The midnight-blue chitinous rings of the 402 are naturally resistant to both corrosion and extreme heat. Blacksmiths in the factory islands use these segments to create Heat-Shielded Gauntlets and acid-resistant plating for avatars who frequent volcanic or chemically toxic zones.
  • Soul-Signature Scent Tracking: Because the creature can distinguish between native souls and Isekai “Travelers,” researchers at the 73 Island magical academies search for them to study their sensory organs. They hope to reverse-engineer this ability to create better “Identity Scanners” for city security.
  • Salvaging Hoarded Mineral Sludge: As a liquivore that consumes high-magic bone marrow, the creature’s digestive waste—found in its nesting sites—is a concentrated source of refined mineral salts. These salts are essential for recharging spent magic storage crystals.

Recommended Gear for the Expedition

Hunting a creature that is camouflaged as a pipe and possesses a range-10 harpoon requires specialized protective equipment. Standard leather is easily bypassed by its serrated forelegs and acidic fringe.

The Bilsom by Sperian 1010924 Leightning L3 Adjustable Headband Earmuff is a non-traditional but effective tool for this hunt. The 402 is hypersensitive to vibrations; wearing high-quality acoustic protection allows hunters to operate heavy steam-venting equipment or industrial saws near the beast without being disoriented by the rhythmic “Thumping” the creature produces when it is agitated.

To safely handle the midnight-blue chitin and the acidic stinging tentacles during harvesting, the Superior Glove Works S13SXPU-6 Precision PU Coated String Knit Gloves are indispensable. These provide the high-tactile sensitivity needed to extract the delicate proboscis while the polyurethane coating offers a barrier against the creature’s mild surface toxins.

When a Myriapoda-Aves 402 is successfully neutralized, its chimeric physiology offers a wealth of exotic industrial and alchemical materials. Because it merges the traits of millipedes, cone snails, mantises, and anemones, the harvesting process requires both heavy-duty cutting tools and delicate precision.

Harvestable Materials and Their Uses

  • Neurotoxic Harpoon (Retractable Proboscis): This is the most sought-after component. If harvested intact, the hollow, needle-like structure can be used as a Tier 2 Alchemical Injector. The residual toxin inside is distilled into Paralytic Oils that can freeze a target’s motor functions for several minutes.
  • Segmented Chitin Rings: The midnight-blue rings are naturally Heat-Resistant and Acid-Proof. Master smiths use these segments to create Steam-Shielded Pauldrons or heavy-duty gaskets for high-pressure boilers that won’t corrode under magic-saturated steam.
  • Serrated Raptorial Blades: The mantis-like forelegs are incredibly sharp and made of a biological ceramic. They are often repurposed as serrated machetes or industrial cutting shears that never need sharpening, capable of slicing through Tier 1 metal cables.
  • Adhesive Gastropod Slime: The muscular foot of the 402 produces a thick, iridescent mucus that remains sticky even underwater. When processed, it creates an Industrial-Grade Adhesive used for patching leaks in floating city hulls or creating “Sticky Grenades” for crowd control.
  • Stinging Tentacle Fringes: The anemone-like head-cluster contains hundreds of nematocysts. These are dried and ground into a Caustic Powder. This powder is used in “Flash-Burn” traps that deliver both chemical burns and intense stinging sensations to intruders.
  • Vibration-Sensitive Nerve Clusters: Found along the base of the millipede-like legs, these clusters can be integrated into Seismic Sensors. These devices allow avatars to detect approaching monsters through the vibrations of the floor or walls long before they are seen.

Essential Gear for Harvesting

To safely extract the acidic fringe and the reinforced chitin, you will need tools that can withstand corrosive fluids while maintaining a sharp edge.

The Bora 5-Piece Heavy Duty Chisel Set is perfect for prying apart the interlocking chitinous rings. The hardened steel blades can withstand the pressure needed to separate the segments without shattering the valuable biological ceramic of the rings.

For the delicate work of extracting the neurotoxic proboscis or the nerve clusters, the Wiss W7T Heavy Duty Titanium Coated Scissors provide the necessary precision. The titanium coating protects the blades from the corrosive gastropod slime and ensures they don’t dull when cutting through the tough, fibrous anemone tissue.

Blue Pipe-That-Eats and Harpoon of Silent Breath

In the old-times, when the Sky-Islands were but pebbles and the Great-Steam was a small-puff, there was the “Great-Stillness-of-the-Hollow.” In this stillness did dwell the Myriapoda-Aves 402, a spirit of the “Four-Ways-of-Creeping.” It had the skin of the midnight-stone, the snap of the arm-blades, and the “Hidden-Sting-of-the-Long-Tongue.”

The broken stones, found where the water-from-above meets the water-from-below, speak of a builder named “He-Who-Clamps-the-Iron.” This builder did desire to make the “World-Tube-of-Infinite-Heat,” so that his people would never be cold. He did lay his pipes across the belly of the world, but he did not know that the 402 was already there, “Being-a-Pipe-That-Was-Not-a-Pipe.”

The builder’s men did walk upon the blue-rings, thinking them to be the work of their lord. But the 402 did possess the “Patience-of-the-Deep-Anemone.” It did wait until the “Vibration-of-the-Soul” was close. Then, it did fire the “Bolt-of-the-Numb-Sleep.” One by one, the men did become “Still-Like-Stone,” and the creature did draw them into its “Face-of-Fringes” to drink their life-juice.

The builder did cry out, “Why does my work consume my people?” He did take his “Great-Saw-of-Ceramic” and strike at the blue-stone. But the 402 did have the “Shell-of-No-Corrosion.” The saw did break, and the creature did only “Ripple-the-Foot-of-a-Thousand-Steps.”

A wise-child, known as “The-One-Who-Listens-to-the-Drip,” did observe the beast. The child did see that the 402 was not a builder of pipes, but a “Filter-of-the-Sludge.” It did only strike when the people did walk with the “Heaviness-of-Greed.” The child did teach the people to walk with the “Light-Step-of-the-Cloud,” and the creature did let them pass. Thus, the pipes of the city did coexist with the “Living-Pipe-of-the-Dark.”

Moral of the Story: If you build your road through the home of the silent, walk with a light heart and a soft foot, or you shall become the juice that fuels the very pipes you seek to mend.
