The Stormreaver Greatsword is highly prized across Saṃsāra for its powerful enchantments and connection to storm energy. Each shop type offers its own experience and price point, shaped by the sword’s origins and the specific characteristics of the market or guild through which it’s obtained.

The Stormreaver Greatsword is a weapon infused with the power of a storm dragon, crackling with electrical energy and capable of dealing devastating blows. Its versatility and raw power make it suitable for various environments, allowing for both offensive strikes and defensive maneuvers. Here’s a breakdown of how it might be used in different settings for both offense and defense:

  • Mountainous Terrain
    • Offensive Use: In the high peaks, the Stormreaver Greatsword’s electrical energy is amplified by the thin, storm-prone air. When attacking enemies on steep slopes or ledges, the wielder can strike with such force that the Lightning Damage effect arcs from the blade to nearby foes, potentially knocking them off balance or even off cliffs. The loud crack of thunder can also intimidate wild creatures, making them flee in terror.
    • Defensive Use: The sword’s stunning ability can be employed defensively to immobilize foes temporarily, giving the wielder a chance to escape up or down the mountainside. If an avalanche or rockslide is triggered, the wielder can slash the sword through the air, unleashing a shockwave of electrical energy to create a temporary shield against falling debris or rocks.
  • Dense Forest or Jungle
    • Offensive Use: In a thick forest, where visibility is low, the Stormreaver’s crackling energy can illuminate the surroundings, revealing hidden threats. Against fast-moving or elusive foes, a wide, sweeping attack releases the electrical charge in all directions, potentially catching multiple enemies hidden among the trees. The stunning effect also keeps fast-moving beasts from getting too close, allowing the wielder to control the battlefield.
    • Defensive Use: The Stormreaver Greatsword can be swung through dense foliage, causing the electrical charge to sever vines or ignite branches, clearing a path or creating barriers. When facing enemies that can attack from above, like large insects or predatory birds, the wielder can use a defensive stance, holding the sword overhead to release a surge of electricity, creating a temporary shield that deters attacks from above.
  • Desert or Open Plains
    • Offensive Use: In open areas, the wielder has room to unleash the full power of the sword with broad, sweeping strikes. The sword’s Lightning Damage can be used to electrify the ground, creating a shockwave that travels toward distant foes. Against groups of enemies, the wielder can strike the ground, releasing electricity that spreads across the sand, stunning anyone caught within range.
    • Defensive Use: In a desert, the Stormreaver’s electrical energy can create a barrier of charged air around the wielder, repelling sand, dust, or even small projectiles. This makes it especially useful in sandstorms, where visibility is low, and protection from abrasive sand is needed. If pursued, the wielder can use the sword’s power to electrify the sand, creating a zone of crackling energy that discourages enemies from following too closely.
  • Swamp or Marshland
    • Offensive Use: The sword’s electricity is especially potent in marshy or wet environments. A simple strike in the water can electrify an entire area, dealing bonus damage to all creatures standing within it. This can be particularly useful when dealing with swamp-dwelling creatures that hunt in groups or rely on water for camouflage. The electrified water may also create visible currents that reveal hidden creatures or paths.
    • Defensive Use: In swampy areas where footing is treacherous, the wielder can swing the sword to create a small shockwave, forcing waterlogged enemies back. The stunning effect can be used to immobilize foes who attempt to ambush from the murky waters, giving the wielder time to maneuver to safer ground. Additionally, the sword’s electrical pulses can drive off creatures that rely on touch or sound to locate their prey.
  • Urban Setting
    • Offensive Use: In the tight quarters of city streets or alleyways, the sword’s electricity can travel through walls, fences, or cobblestones, catching enemies off-guard. When battling multiple foes, a single swing can electrify the ground, stunning anyone nearby. This is useful in urban environments, where crowd control is essential. Additionally, the wielder can use the sword to disable mechanical devices, like gates or metal locks, with a surge of electrical power.
    • Defensive Use: In an urban setting, the sword’s stun effect can be a valuable tool for crowd control. When surrounded, the wielder can release an electrical discharge that forces enemies back, creating space to retreat or reposition. If pursued, the wielder can slash the sword against a metal surface, creating a temporary barrier of arcing electricity to block narrow passages. The electricity can also create enough light to reveal hidden threats or hidden passages.
  • Seafaring or Coastal Setting
    • Offensive Use: On a ship’s deck or near water, the Stormreaver’s electricity becomes especially deadly. With a single strike, the wielder can electrify the deck, causing severe damage to foes in contact with metal surfaces or standing water. Against enemies swimming or climbing, the sword’s electricity can be directed into the water, stunning or injuring aquatic foes before they reach the wielder.
    • Defensive Use: In a seafaring environment, the wielder can use the sword to create a temporary barrier of charged air around themselves, repelling incoming projectiles or debris from a storm. When dealing with attackers boarding the ship, the wielder can use the sword’s energy to create an electrified field along the ship’s railings, preventing enemies from gaining a foothold. The stun effect can be used to incapacitate foes, throwing them overboard with well-placed strikes.
  • Cave or Dungeon
    • Offensive Use: In confined spaces, the wielder can strike the ground with the sword, releasing a shockwave that reverberates through the cave walls, damaging enemies nearby. The electrical energy can also be used to illuminate dark areas, revealing hidden traps or creatures lurking in the shadows. The stunning effect is particularly useful for taking down larger dungeon-dwelling creatures that require precise strikes to subdue.
    • Defensive Use: In narrow tunnels or small rooms, the sword can be swung to create a barrier of electrical energy that temporarily blocks the passage, preventing enemies from advancing. If the wielder is pursued, they can release a surge of electricity behind them, momentarily blinding and stunning any creatures that follow. Additionally, the sword can be used to trigger or disable traps with electrical components, ensuring safe passage.

The Stormreaver Greatsword is versatile in both offensive and defensive capabilities, particularly when used in creative ways within specific environments. Whether channeling electricity through water, repelling enemies with a surge of energy, or illuminating dark caves with its crackling light, the wielder of this weapon is a formidable force, wielding the power of storms to control the battlefield.

    • Thunderbird Feather (1) – A rare feather from a mythical thunderbird, used to imbue the weapon with a stunning effect.
    • Dragonbone Powder (1 ounce) – Powdered bone from any dragon type, mixed into the forging process to enhance the sword’s durability and elemental affinity.
    • Darkheart Wood Handle (1) – A wooden hilt, cut from trees grown on stormy mountain peaks, known for its resilience and energy absorption.
  • Tools Required:
    • Dragonforge – A specially designed forge capable of reaching extreme temperatures, required for blending dragonsteel and enchanting materials.
    • Runesmith’s Tools – Used to carefully inscribe runes on metal surfaces, imbuing the weapon with magical properties.
    • Gem-Setting Kit – Tools for setting charged crystals into the blade, ensuring they remain stable under intense conditions.
    • Elemental Focus Hammer – A smithing hammer infused with elemental magic, necessary for stabilizing the storm energy in the sword.
    • Enchanter’s Rod – A specialized tool that channels and directs magic, used to bind the dragon’s essence and finalize the enchantment.
  • Skill Requirements:
    • Master Blacksmithing (Advanced) – Essential for shaping dragonsteel and handling dragonbone-infused metals.
    • Runic Inscription (Intermediate) – Required to etch and activate ancient storm-binding runes.
    • Elemental Affinity (Intermediate) – For handling and controlling elemental materials like storm dragon essence and lightning crystals.
    • Enchanting (Advanced) – To stabilize and fuse the dragon essence with the blade, enhancing its electrical and stunning effects.
    • Gemcraft (Intermediate) – Required to securely set and charge the lightning crystals within the blade.
  • Crafting Steps:
    • Prepare the Dragonsteel Alloy:
      • Place the Dragonsteel Ingots in the Dragonforge, heating them until they’re nearly molten. Once pliable, mix in the Dragonbone Powder, enhancing the alloy with draconic properties.
      • Using the Elemental Focus Hammer, fold and shape the metal into the form of a massive greatsword blade. Be sure to keep the blade slightly longer and wider than the final design to allow for carving and rune setting.
    • Forge the Blade with Storm Dragon Essence:
      • Remove the blade from the forge once it’s shaped, and coat it with the Storm Dragon Essence. The essence will seep into the metal, causing it to emit faint sparks as it binds with the alloy.
      • Carefully use the Enchanter’s Rod to direct the energy from the essence into the blade. Allow the blade to cool in a bed of volcanic sand, as this will temper the metal and stabilize the essence within the alloy.
    • Inscribe the Runes and Embed Conductor Wires:
      • Using the Runesmith’s Tools, carve out spaces for the Runic Inscription Tablets along the blade. Position one tablet at each corner near the hilt and two on either side of the central ridge.
      • Carefully inlay the Elemental Conductor Wire into channels along the blade’s spine, connecting the runes to each other and preparing for the lightning crystals. This wire acts as a conduit, enhancing the sword’s electrical capabilities.
    • Set the Charged Lightning Crystals:
      • Use the Gem-Setting Kit to embed the Charged Lightning Crystals into the blade. Place one crystal near the hilt and two along the blade’s edge. Ensure they are securely set and connected to the conductor wire.
      • With the Elemental Focus Hammer, lightly tap each crystal, activating them to start storing electrical energy. This will cause the crystals to crackle faintly, indicating they are linked with the sword’s elemental core.
    • Attach the Thunderbird Feather:
      • Secure the Thunderbird Feather to the sword’s hilt, wrapping it around the base with enchanted thread. The feather enhances the sword’s stunning capability, drawing from the thunderbird’s natural affinity for lightning.
      • The Enchanter’s Rod will be needed here to bond the feather to the sword’s core, creating a faint aura around the hilt when fully attuned.
    • Craft and Attach the Darkheart Wood Handle:
      • Shape the Darkheart Wood Handle to fit the tang of the blade, carving it to ensure a snug fit. Treat the wood with an oil made from elemental herbs to increase durability.
      • Use the Runesmith’s Tools to inscribe additional, minor runes onto the handle, which aid in channeling the electrical energy from the blade to the wielder’s hand.
      • Secure the handle to the blade with metal fittings that have been cooled in enchanted water, finalizing the bond between blade and hilt.
    • Final Binding Ritual:
      • Once assembled, place the sword on an altar or anvil under open skies, ideally during a thunderstorm. Channel the storm’s energy into the blade using the Enchanter’s Rod, invoking the ancient storm dragon’s spirit.
      • Chant the binding incantation, sealing the storm energy and dragon essence within the sword. Lightning should strike the blade at least once during the ritual, finalizing the Stormreaver’s ability to deal electrical damage and stun foes.
      • After the storm passes, test the sword by striking an object and observing the electrical discharge. If the blade crackles with energy and the runes glow, the enchantment is complete.
    • Test and Attune:
      • Wield the sword, focusing on the energy coursing through the blade. Swing it to release a controlled electrical shock, confirming that the Lightning Damage and stunning effect work as intended.
      • Spend at least an hour attuning with the sword. During this time, the wielder will form a bond with the weapon, gaining control over its electric powers and unlocking its full potential.

The Stormreaver Greatsword is now complete, infused with the essence of a storm dragon and ready to unleash powerful, electrifying attacks. It’s a weapon that demands respect and mastery, as only those who can wield its power with precision will fully appreciate its devastating potential.

Tale of the Thunderbringer’s Blade

In times beyond counting, when the sky was young and stars were but sparks in the great darkness, there lived a dragon, name of Thorinash, the Thunderbringer. Thorinash, it was told, ruled over the storms themselves, with scales bright as lightning and breath that brought the rains. No storm came without his call, no thunder struck without his roar.

In that age, a warrior called Tathran sought a weapon like none before. Tathran was not mighty, nor was he known to men, but his heart burned with a fire that could not be quenched. He wished to fight beasts beyond measure, to carve his name upon the stones of ages. And so, he wandered far and deep, crossing rivers that had no end, mountains that touched the sky, seeking whispers of the Thunderbringer.

One night, beneath a sky alive with storms, Tathran came upon an old man, one who sat beneath an ancient tree, eyes deep as the darkness itself. The old man spoke to Tathran, words that echoed like the breaking of distant thunder. He told of a place, a place where the dragon slept, bound to the heart of a mountain, deep within its rock, where no light had ever touched.

So Tathran, with feet weary and spirit fierce, found his way to the mountain’s root. He wandered into its depths, through caverns wide and silent as the grave. There, in a hollowed hall of stone and shadow, he saw it—the Thunderbringer, Thorinash, who lay bound in slumber.

Tathran took his blade, simple and worn, and struck it into the heart of the dragon, where the light of storms flickered still. With a cry that split the mountain, the Thunderbringer woke, and Tathran felt his heart break as the dragon’s power poured through him, binding his soul to the storm. The blade took on the dragon’s essence, and so was born the Stormreaver.

With the blade now fused with the power of the storm, Tathran struck his way out of the mountain, each swing bringing thunder, each step leaving cracks in the earth. He fought as never before, laying low beasts and men alike, his name now feared in every tongue. But soon, Tathran found that the sword took more than it gave. With each swing, it pulled at his soul, a price unseen. The power he had sought became his cage, and his spirit grew heavy, bound to the storm that raged within.

In time, Tathran grew weary, his body marked with the weight of a thousand storms. He returned to the mountain, hoping to lay the blade down and free himself of its burden. But Thorinash, the dragon, was bound to him still. His blood, his breath, all were one with the storm, and there could be no release.

So it was that Tathran passed from the world, his name known only to the winds, his blade left in the stone of the mountain once more. The Stormreaver, they say, waits there still, for one whose heart is as fierce as Tathran’s, but whose soul can bear the weight of thunder.

Moral of the Story: Power taken from others carries a burden beyond measure. Only those who wield it with respect, not ambition, shall know the true strength it holds, lest they be consumed by the storm they sought to command.
