From: Hive 7384 of the Firewing
A soft, breathable layer of woven silk worn beneath the armor. Reduces chafing and discomfort while providing a light layer of protection.
Lore: Comfort in the Heart of the Volcanoes
- The volcanic regions of Saṃsāra are as beautiful as they are harsh. Biting winds, coarse ash, and fluctuating temperatures can take a toll even on the avatars’ chitinous bodies.
- The Flameflower silkworms are a marvel. Their silk is incredibly soft, yet far more resilient than its delicate appearance would suggest.
- It was the elders, who remembered the aches of long hunts, who first wove this silk into underlayers. These garments provide both comfort and a surprising level of protection against the elements.
Uses: The Skin Beneath the Shell
- First and foremost, the Silkspun Underlayer protects against chafing caused by armor, scales, or rough terrain. This significantly improves stamina and focus during extended hunts or journeys.
- The silk provides a thin layer of defense. It can deflect small thorns or embers, turn aside glancing blows, and lessen the sting of biting insects.
- The Silkspun Underlayer regulates temperature. The breathable weave keeps the avatar cooler in the heat of the day, yet provides a touch of warmth against the nighttime chill.

Tale of the Shimmering Thread
In epochs when the stars were young and the tongue of our people was but a whisper upon the wind, there spun a tale of the Shimmering Thread. None know from whence this name came, only that it was passed down through the ages, carrying both wonder and a somber warning.
The legend speaks of the great Weaver, a woman of boundless skill, whose dwelling lay at the heart of the Fire Mountains. It was said her fingers could coax thread from the very breath of the volcano, fiery strands that shimmered with a restless light. Yet, the Weaver was cloaked in sorrow, for her people walked a perilous path, forever chased by scorching winds and rivers of molten rock.
One day, a desperate plea reached her ears. A young hunter, his skin marked with the scars of his harsh homeland, begged for her aid. The Weaver, moved by his plight, wove him a garment from the Shimmering Thread. It clung to his form like a second skin, light as a spider’s web, yet unyielding.
Clad in this strange armor, the hunter returned to his tribe. His steps grew swifter, no longer weighed down by the heavy hides of beasts. The burning ash could not pierce his skin, and the choking fumes did him no harm. He became a beacon of hope, leading his people through the fiery mazes of their world.
But the Shimmering Thread bore a hidden cost. With each passing moon, a coldness crept into the hunter’s heart. His eyes, once bright with compassion, gleamed with the same restless light as the garment he wore. Victories turned to conquests, the hunter driven by an insatiable thirst for power forged in the volcano’s fiery depths.
In the end, they say, the hunter vanished into the heart of the mountain, consumed by the flames that had birthed his miraculous protection. The Weaver, in her grief, cast her loom into the fiery abyss, vowing that never again would the Shimmering Thread bring ruin upon her kin.
Moral of the Story: Even the brightest gifts hold a shadow within. Strength without wisdom is a wildfire, burning all it touches, even the hand that wields it.
