Red Deck: “Failure” Cards with Roleplay Emphasis on Awkwardness
Clumsy Misfire
Effect: Your failed attack goes off course, knocking an item out of an ally’s hand within 10 feet. The ally must spend their next action retrieving it.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your attack swerves awkwardly, causing you to knock an essential item from an ally’s grasp. The awkward tension is palpable as your ally scrambles to recover it.
Unfortunate Slippage
Effect: The magic in your failed attack inadvertently creates a slippery surface on the ground, affecting a 5-foot radius around you. All creatures, friend or foe, in that radius must succeed in a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
Roleplay Emphasis: The magical energy redirects awkwardly towards the ground, creating a slippery surface that catches everyone off guard. Now, both allies and enemies are struggling to keep their footing, resulting in an awkward and precarious situation.
Involuntary Boast
Effect: Your failed attack causes you to involuntarily shout an overconfident statement. Enemies gain advantage on their next attack against you.
Roleplay Emphasis: In a bout of magical feedback, you find yourself awkwardly boasting about your abilities, drawing increased attention and aggression from your enemies.
Green Deck: “Crit” Cards with Roleplay Emphasis on Awkwardness
Overzealous Celebration
Effect: Your successful attack fills you with so much enthusiasm that you can’t help but cheer loudly. This cheers up one ally within 20 feet, giving them a bonus to their next attack, but it also alerts enemies to your position.
Roleplay Emphasis: Fueled by your critical hit, you awkwardly over-celebrate, bringing both joy and attention. While one ally is motivated by your enthusiasm, enemies are now more aware of your presence.
Awkward Timing
Effect: The magic from your critical hit distorts time around an enemy within 10 feet. The enemy moves out of sync with the world for a brief moment, giving them disadvantage on their next attack but also making them harder to hit until the end of their next turn.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your attack strangely distorts time in the vicinity. The affected enemy awkwardly stumbles, moving in a bizarre and hard-to-predict manner.
Friendly Fireworks
Effect: Your critical attack releases an awkward burst of harmless but bright and loud fireworks. One ally within 15 feet gains inspiration but is also blinded until the end of their next turn.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your successful strike releases unexpected fireworks, providing a sense of awe and inspiration to an ally. However, the bright lights also momentarily blind them, creating an awkward mix of advantage and disadvantage.
Each card is designed to fit seamlessly into the world of Saṃsāra, respecting its unique setting and mechanics. The red deck uses awkwardness to bring about disadvantages or complications for the player’s party, while the green deck leverages awkward situations to create a mixture of advantages and disadvantages, affecting both allies and enemies.
