Red Deck: “Failure” Cards with Roleplay Emphasis on Arrogance
Overconfident Misfire
Effect: Your next attack roll has a -2 penalty.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your failure comes from an inflated sense of your own abilities. As you swing and miss, you can’t shake off the feeling that you’re better than this, but your arrogance clouds your judgment, affecting your aim for your next attack.
Mockery Magnet
Effect: An ally within 15 feet receives a -1 penalty on their next skill check.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your arrogance in failure radiates outward, affecting the focus of one of your allies. Feeling as if they have something to prove in the wake of your arrogance, they are more prone to making an error during their next task.
Ego’s Boon to Foes
Effect: An enemy within sight gains a temporary +1 bonus to their Armor Class for one round.
Roleplay Emphasis: Emboldened by your arrogance, an enemy finds a renewed confidence. They are sure they can dodge or withstand the next attack, enhancing their defensive capabilities temporarily.
Green Deck: “Crit” Cards with Roleplay Emphasis on Arrogance
Smug Strike
Effect: Add +2 to your damage roll on your next attack.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your successful critical attack makes you feel invincible. Fueled by your arrogance, you’re sure that your next attack will devastate your enemy, adding extra force to your blow.
Boastful Guard
Effect: An ally within 15 feet gains a +1 bonus to their Armor Class until your next turn.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your critical success doesn’t just affect you; it fills an ally with your arrogance. Convinced that if you can make such an impact, they can too, your ally gains a temporary boost in their defenses.
Arrogant Weakening
Effect: Choose one enemy within 30 feet. That enemy receives a -1 penalty to their next damage roll.
Roleplay Emphasis: Your critical success is so overpowering that it dampens the spirit of an enemy. Witnessing your arrogant display, they second-guess their own abilities, causing them to strike less effectively in their next turn.
Each card from both the Red and Green Decks comes with a roleplaying facet, emphasizing the arrogance that either contributes to or arises from the critical or failing moment. This serves to enrich the narrative context of the gameplay, providing additional dimensions for how actions, reactions, and consequences are experienced by the players.
