It is said that there was once an island nation that had a large amount of Zephyrstone in its land. Duren a combined great cataclysm of weather bound lightning and a wild magic storm this land was torn from the sea killing all life that lived there. As it rose into the air it broke into many smaller floating islands, most of which fell back to the sea within a few days. Many still float at a height of 4000 to 5000 feet above the sea. The floating islands go wherever the wind pushes them. People have inhabited the floating islands and now defend the Zephyrstone that remains. It is said that if the concentration of Zephyrstone falls below a certain amount then the floating island will also fall.
Environment: Zephyrstone is predominantly found in deep caves or hidden grottos located in the heart of dense forests or atop high mountain peaks. These remote and challenging environments are often shrouded in mist and surrounded by strong gusts of wind, reflecting the elemental nature of the mineral.
Appearance: Zephyrstone is characterized by its translucent, pale blue coloration, reminiscent of a clear sky just before dawn. The mineral is typically found in small, faceted crystals, which sparkle when caught in the light. When held, the crystals feel light and cool to the touch, as if a gentle breeze is passing through one’s fingers.
The Zephyrstone Islands, as they are now known, are a collection of many floating landmasses that were once part of an island nation rich in Zephyrstone. These islands were torn from the sea during a cataclysmic event that combined wild magic storms and powerful lightning strikes. While most of the islands sank back to the sea shortly after their separation, many of them managed to remain afloat, defying gravity at a height of 4000 to 5000 feet above the sea. Those smaller islands that fell to the see, float on the world sea at the mercy of the ocean currents, waves, and storms. The magic of the Zephyrstone causes them to remain far from any of the normal land masses.
The inhabitants of the Zephyrstone Islands are a resourceful and resilient people who have adapted to their unique environment. They have built sturdy structures, using Zephyrstone as a core material for their buildings, bridges, and defensive fortifications. They guard the remaining Zephyrstone deposits, as they understand that if the concentration of the mineral falls below a certain threshold, their floating islands may lose their ability to defy gravity and plummet into the sea below.
The Zephyrstone Islands have become a sought-after destination for adventurers, scholars, and traders who are drawn to the enchanting allure of the floating realms. They explore the caves and hidden grottos in search of Zephyrstone deposits, engage in trade for the precious mineral, and study its magical properties. The islands have also become a training ground for acrobats, aerial performers, and skyship pilots who harness the unpredictable winds and gravity-defying terrain to perfect their skills.
