Action Economy

Movement: Movement does not count against the player characters (PCs) or the avatars actions. In the characters turn they may move any of their avatars up to the maximum allowed for each avatar’s speed. This can be broken up into different movements for each avatar. This can be before or after any action.

Actions: (mainly used in combat) The number of actions per turn is one plus the characters tier level. Some items may increase or decrease the number of actions per turn.

Anything that requires a die roll; (attack, climbing a fence, hacking a door, etc.), costs an action. An action may also be used to prepare a single reaction. A prepared reaction resets at the beginning of the character’s turn.

In the world of Saṃsāra an attack is the complete use of an item. What that means is if you have a sword or knife that is in a sheath an action includes unsheathing, using, and sheathing. What this does not include is sheathing then unsheathing another weapon. The action ends when the item is sheathed.

Actions are also used to drink a potion or use an item in a pocket or storage. This action includes retrieving the item to appendage, its use, and the return if any to storage. This means that if you have a consumable that allow an attack you may retrieve and use the item to attack in the same action.

Reactions: Reactions are actions taken because of a trigger. Triggers may be defined on items. Triggers are when something happens that allows an action to be used. This does not subtract from the actions that a character has available on their turn.

Using a reaction to trigger the ready action, which is a specific action that a PC has prepared in advance to use when a specific triggering event occurs, like shooting a bow when an enemy comes within a specific range. Ready actions do not suffer from attack penalties.

If you are riding a mount and if that mount is knocked prone, you can use a reaction to dismount and land on your feet if that reaction is listed on the mount.

Free Actions: Anything that does not require a die roll is a free action. Remember that a turn is still only six seconds long. If you’re doing things that take too long the turn will end. Most passive abilities fall into this type of action.
