From: Admonishing Band Spirit Guardian
Lore: The Spiritforged Chains are extraordinary artifacts forged in the crucible of the spirit realm itself. Crafted by skilled smiths who had unraveled the secrets of ethereal energies, these enchanted shackles were created during a time when malevolent spirits and ethereal creatures threatened to wreak havoc upon the mortal plane. Legends speak of courageous adventurers who ventured into the heart of the spirit realm, where they harnessed the essence of restless souls to imbue the chains with the power to bind and temporarily subdue supernatural entities. The Spiritforged Chains are considered both a symbol of defiance against the ethereal realm’s threats and a means of protection for those who dare to face its dangers.
Use: The primary purpose of the Spiritforged Chains is to temporarily restrain and immobilize supernatural entities, such as hostile spirits, ghosts, or other ethereal creatures. When activated, the chains emanate an ethereal energy that disrupts the essence of spirits, making them more vulnerable to containment. By binding these entities, the chains limit their ability to manifest fully in the physical world and reduce their capacity to interact with their surroundings. The Spiritforged Chains provide the creature with an advantage on Strength checks made to grapple or restrain supernatural entities, granting them greater control over ethereal adversaries.

The Spiritforged Chains are rare and powerful artifacts in Saṃsāra, designed to bind and subdue ethereal entities. Due to their specialized nature and the skill required to craft them, they are found in select, high-end shops or mystical locations where supernatural and arcane items are traded. Here’s a description of the types of shops where these chains might be bought and sold, along with cost variations based on the environment.
- Ethereal Armories of the Admonishing Band (Cost: 1,000–1,500 gold pieces)
- Location: Sanctified citadels and fortresses of the Admonishing Band, usually in or near spirit-haunted regions or sacred sites dedicated to defending against supernatural threats.
- Atmosphere: These armories are filled with relics of spiritual warfare—shining with faint, ethereal light. The Spiritforged Chains are prominently displayed, resting on pedestals under shimmering wards, protected from both physical and spiritual disturbances.
- Buying Process: Only those proven in combat against spirits or who have earned the trust of the Band can purchase these chains. Before buying, buyers may need to perform a task or prove their intentions are noble. The shopkeepers here are often spirit guardians themselves, knowledgeable about the artifacts they offer.
- Cost Factors: The cost is high due to the spiritual and historical significance attached to these chains, as well as the sanctification process performed before they are sold. Members of the Band may receive discounts.
- Ghost Hunter Guild Halls (Cost: 950–1,200 gold pieces)
- Location: Found in large cities or towns plagued by supernatural disturbances, Ghost Hunter Guilds specialize in equipping spirit hunters, adventurers, and mercenaries tasked with confronting otherworldly entities.
- Atmosphere: The halls are lined with weapons, amulets, and other tools designed for dealing with the dead and the ethereal. The chains are kept in reinforced glass cases, surrounded by items like holy relics and arcane wards that offer additional protection to the user.
- Buying Process: Anyone who is a registered member of the guild can purchase the chains, but prices are lower for those with higher ranks or significant spirit-hunting achievements. Guildmasters often provide detailed briefings on the proper use of the chains to ensure the buyer’s success against ethereal threats.
- Cost Factors: Prices reflect both the rarity of the chains and the risks taken by guild members to obtain and maintain these artifacts. A discount may be offered for those taking on missions involving particularly dangerous spirits.
- Spirit Market Bazaars (Cost: 900–1,200 gold pieces)
- Location: Hidden markets in cities known for high levels of spiritual activity. These bazaars feature traders specializing in arcane and ethereal artifacts, ranging from rare spirit bindings to haunted talismans.
- Atmosphere: The market is lively but eerie, with shadowy figures wandering among stalls displaying enchanted items and relics. The chains are usually found at booths run by seasoned spirit hunters or arcane specialists, displayed with other ghost-hunting tools. Flickering lanterns powered by ghostlights add to the otherworldly atmosphere.
- Buying Process: Buying here involves heavy haggling, with merchants often exaggerating the dangers of spirit-binding tools to inflate prices. Buyers must be cautious of fraudulent items, but a trusted dealer might offer fairer prices or provide additional information about particularly potent chains.
- Cost Factors: Prices here are generally reasonable, though they fluctuate based on the availability of ethereal artifacts and the demand for spirit-binding tools. Higher prices are charged during times of increased supernatural unrest.
- Black Markets of Cursed Cities (Cost: 1,200–2,000 gold pieces)
- Location: Located in the underbelly of cities cursed by spirits or riddled with supernatural threats, these black markets deal in rare and dangerous relics, often obtained through illicit means.
- Atmosphere: The air is thick with secrecy and danger, and the items for sale are often cursed or too risky for public sale. The Spiritforged Chains are hidden in the shadows, guarded by powerful wards. The merchants dealing in these markets are usually unsavory characters, selling to desperate buyers.
- Buying Process: Transactions are often done in secrecy, with buyers needing to prove their trustworthiness before being allowed to purchase. A broker might arrange a meeting in a hidden part of the city where the chains are sold at inflated prices due to their rarity. Buyers should be wary of potential traps or false deals.
- Cost Factors: The price is heavily inflated due to the danger of trafficking in cursed and powerful artifacts. The black market thrives on desperation, so buyers often end up paying a premium.
- Enchanted Smithies (Cost: 850–1,100 gold pieces)
- Location: High-end smithies located in the major cities or arcane academies of Saṃsāra, where master smiths craft specialized items infused with ethereal magic. These smithies serve noble families, adventurers, and those with the means to commission rare items.
- Atmosphere: The shop is filled with the sounds of metal clanging and soft, arcane chanting as enchantments are imbued into weapons and armor. The Spiritforged Chains hang on a wall surrounded by other enchanted items, their runes faintly glowing with ethereal energy.
- Buying Process: Buyers may need to place an order in advance or request a custom-made version of the chains. Smiths here are well-versed in the magical properties of the items they create and will often offer custom enchantments or modifications to the chains. Buyers can pay for upgrades such as longer-lasting enchantments or more powerful bindings.
- Cost Factors: The price is determined by the quality of the craftsmanship and the specific enchantments requested. Customization options may drive the price higher, but the base cost remains fairly steady.
- Relic Traders in Spirit Plains (Cost: 800–1,000 gold pieces)
- Location: Traveling merchants who roam the Spirit Plains—an ethereal region where the boundary between the physical and spirit worlds is thin. These traders deal exclusively in spiritual and ethereal artifacts, often found in abandoned ruins or spirit-haunted regions.
- Atmosphere: The traveling caravan is surrounded by strange mist and distant whispers, and the items for sale are carefully stored in glass cases or woven bags to avoid unwanted spiritual interference. The chains are hung delicately alongside other spirit-bound relics, exuding faint supernatural energy.
- Buying Process: Bartering is common, and the traders may offer discounts in exchange for rare spirit-infused materials or information about haunted locations. These traders are often nomadic, so buyers must seek them out in remote areas where they temporarily set up shop.
- Cost Factors: Prices are slightly lower due to the trader’s constant movement and the need to quickly offload items before moving to a new location. Buyers may get good deals if they have something valuable to offer in return.
- Arcane Academies (Cost: 950–1,300 gold pieces)
- Location: Elite academies that teach the arcane arts, often found in major cities or remote islands dedicated to magical research. These academies store powerful artifacts used for training purposes or sold to fund further magical studies.
- Atmosphere: The academies are grand, with towering shelves of magical tomes and relics from various planes of existence. The Spiritforged Chains are stored in heavily warded vaults, accessible only to trusted students, alumni, or those with official business with the academy.
- Buying Process: Potential buyers often need academic connections or sponsorship from a high-ranking mage to purchase such rare items. Academies may require proof of responsible intent, such as research papers or contracts for spirit-related missions, before selling the chains.
- Cost Factors: Prices reflect the rarity and research value of the chains, with additional costs for preservation and the protection spells needed to keep the chains stable in magical environments.
In Saṃsāra, the Spiritforged Chains are highly valued for their ability to bind ethereal entities. Depending on the location and the buyer’s standing, the price of these chains can fluctuate greatly, but they are consistently treated as rare and precious items that grant unique powers in the struggle against supernatural forces.
The Spiritforged Chains are versatile tools for both offense and defense, allowing the user to bind, restrain, and immobilize supernatural entities. Their role in combat or encounters with ethereal creatures varies depending on the environment, as the chains’ power adapts to the situation. Below are examples of how the Spiritforged Chains can be roleplayed for defense and offense in different environments.
- Haunted Forest (Defense: Restraining Hostile Spirits)
- In a haunted forest where malevolent spirits or wraiths lurk among the trees, the Spiritforged Chains can be used defensively to protect the party from ghostly ambushes.
- Defensive Roleplay: As the spirits manifest from the mist, their ethereal forms rushing toward the party, the wearer of the chains unfurls them with a glowing, ethereal light. The chains lash out toward the nearest spirit, wrapping around it and binding it to a nearby tree, immobilizing it. The wearer describes how the runes on the chains glow brighter as they tighten, preventing the spirit from passing through physical objects.
- Tactical Defense: The chains provide advantage on Strength checks to grapple or restrain ethereal entities, preventing the spirit from phasing through the environment. The wearer may use the chains to pin multiple spirits, giving the party time to retreat, strategize, or focus fire on weaker enemies.
- Crypt of the Damned (Offense: Subduing an Undead Leader)
- Inside an ancient crypt, where undead leaders may call upon spectral reinforcements, the Spiritforged Chains become an offensive weapon to take down the commander of the undead forces.
- Offensive Roleplay: As the leader of the undead—an ethereal lich or specter—attempts to rally its forces, the wearer of the chains steps forward, hurling the shackles across the crypt. The chains fly through the air, emitting a sharp, high-pitched hum as they lock onto the specter’s form. The lich’s voice is cut off as the chains coil around it, preventing it from casting spells or calling forth more spirits. The player describes how the lich’s form flickers, its connection to the spiritual realm disrupted by the chains’ ethereal energy.
- Tactical Offense: The chains’ Ethereal Restraint ability subdues the leader, cutting off its ability to command or interact with the environment. The party gains the upper hand, focusing their attacks on the restrained specter while it struggles to break free. The wearer can take advantage of the creature’s weakened state to finish it off.
- Battle in the Spirit Realm (Defense: Protecting Allies from Ethereal Threats)
- In the spirit realm itself, where the laws of the physical world don’t apply, the Spiritforged Chains offer vital defense against wandering spirits or hostile entities seeking to attack the living.
- Defensive Roleplay: The wearer senses a surge in spiritual energy as an aggressive wraith closes in on an ally. Moving swiftly, the wearer swings the chains, which extend unnaturally in the ethereal plane, wrapping around the wraith just before it reaches its target. The chains shimmer with spectral energy, and the wraith struggles, unable to break free. The wearer feels the resistance of the wraith’s spiritual essence pulling against the chains, but they hold firm.
- Tactical Defense: By immobilizing the wraith, the wearer shields the ally from further harm. The chains limit the entity’s movement, allowing the wearer’s companions to regroup or position themselves for a coordinated counterattack. The chains can also be used to keep other ethereal entities at bay, creating a protective perimeter around the party.
- Urban Rooftop Chase (Offense: Capturing a Ghostly Fugitive)
- In the heart of a bustling city, an ethereal fugitive—a spirit fleeing justice—races across the rooftops, using its ability to phase through walls and solid objects. The Spiritforged Chains are critical in subduing the fugitive before it escapes.
- Offensive Roleplay: The wearer sprints across the rooftops, watching the ghostly figure dart through walls and barriers. With a swift motion, they launch the chains toward the spirit. The chains take on a shimmering glow as they make contact, tightening around the ghost and anchoring it to the rooftop. The spirit struggles to phase through the physical world, but the chains’ energy holds it in place. The player describes how the chains pull the ghost down, preventing it from using its incorporeal abilities to escape.
- Tactical Offense: The chains’ ability to bind and restrain ethereal creatures is crucial in preventing the fugitive’s escape. By locking the spirit in place, the wearer effectively neutralizes its advantage of moving through solid objects, allowing the rest of the party to close in and capture or eliminate the target.
- Spirit-Infested Fortress (Defense: Protecting a Sacred Artifact)
- In a fortress overrun by ethereal entities seeking to corrupt a sacred artifact, the Spiritforged Chains provide defense against supernatural forces trying to reach and desecrate the relic.
- Defensive Roleplay: As spectral beings swirl around the sacred artifact, the wearer of the chains stands between them and their target. With a fierce cry, they swing the chains in a wide arc, forming a glowing barrier of ethereal energy. The spirits attempting to advance on the artifact find themselves entangled, their movements restricted by the chains. The wearer describes the chains tightening with every struggle, driving the spirits back.
- Tactical Defense: The chains create a defensive perimeter around the artifact, protecting it from ethereal entities. The wearer can maintain this barrier, fending off spirits trying to bypass it. This allows the party time to perform a ritual or take other measures to protect the relic from corruption.
- Ethereal Plane Duel (Offense: Disabling a Spirit Warrior)
- In an ethereal duel with a powerful spirit warrior, the Spiritforged Chains allow the wearer to turn the tide of battle by disabling their opponent’s movements.
- Offensive Roleplay: The ethereal warrior charges forward, their weapon glowing with spectral energy. The wearer of the chains sidesteps the attack, and with a swift motion, throws the chains around the warrior’s midsection. The chains glow as they tighten, neutralizing the warrior’s ability to summon spiritual weapons. The player describes how the warrior, once fierce and unyielding, is now bound and struggling against the chains’ supernatural grip.
- Tactical Offense: The chains’ ability to restrain ethereal entities gives the wearer a significant advantage in the duel. By limiting the spirit warrior’s movement and abilities, the wearer can seize the upper hand, using the opportunity to strike or demand the warrior’s surrender.
- Abandoned Battlefield (Defense: Containing Malevolent Spirits)
- On an abandoned battlefield where restless spirits of fallen soldiers wander, the Spiritforged Chains offer a means of defense against the lingering malevolent entities that haunt the area.
- Defensive Roleplay: As the spirits of the dead soldiers rise from the earth, their spectral forms filled with rage, the wearer steps forward. The chains glow with a soft, ethereal light as they are cast over one of the spirits, binding it to the ground. The wearer feels the tension in the chains as the spirit tries to break free, but the ancient enchantments hold firm, preventing the spirit from moving further toward the party.
- Tactical Defense: The chains allow the wearer to restrain and immobilize one or more spirits, reducing the immediate threat to the party. This containment provides the group with valuable time to either banish the spirits or locate the source of the haunting.
- Underwater Ruins (Offense: Containing a Sea Spirit)
- In the submerged ruins of an ancient civilization, the Spiritforged Chains are used offensively to subdue a water-based spirit that guards the area.
- Offensive Roleplay: The sea spirit, its form a swirling mass of water and ghostly light, moves swiftly through the ruins. The wearer of the chains dives forward, launching the enchanted shackles toward the spirit. The chains glow brightly even underwater, wrapping around the spirit’s form and anchoring it to a crumbling column. The player describes how the water spirit, once free to manipulate the currents, is now trapped, its influence over the water weakened by the chains’ magic.
- Tactical Offense: By restraining the sea spirit, the wearer disrupts its control over the environment, preventing it from using the water to hinder or harm the party. The chains give the wearer and their allies a clear advantage, turning the spirit’s domain against it.
In each of these environments, the Spiritforged Chains offer creative roleplay opportunities for both defense and offense. They allow the wearer to take control of encounters with ethereal entities, binding, restraining, or neutralizing supernatural threats to ensure the safety of their allies or to gain the upper hand in combat.

Perception of Activation: Spiritforged Chains
- User’s Perspective:
- Sight: When activated, the Spiritforged Chains begin to glow with an eerie, pale light. Each link pulses with energy, and the runes along the chains blaze with ethereal blue. The glow expands outward, enveloping the chains in a shimmering aura that seems to ripple and distort the air around them.
- Sound: A low, metallic hum fills the air as the chains come to life, almost like the distant clanging of spectral bells. Faint whispers echo from the chains, as though long-lost souls are murmuring just beyond the veil. These whispers grow louder when the chains tighten around a spirit or supernatural entity.
- Touch: The chains feel unnaturally warm in the user’s hands, almost as if they are vibrating with the energy of the spirit realm. As they wrap around an ethereal being, the sensation shifts—there is resistance, like holding back a living force, but the chains pulse with strength, pushing back against any attempt to escape.
- Smell: A faint, metallic scent, similar to the smell of freshly forged iron, fills the air. Alongside it comes the subtle fragrance of incense, reminiscent of ancient rituals and long-forgotten temples. This smell grows stronger when the chains bind a spirit.
- Taste: There is a metallic tang in the air, as if the very energy of the chains influences the environment. The taste is sharp but fleeting, leaving behind a strange dryness in the mouth.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP):
- Ethereal Presence: The user feels an immediate awareness of nearby spirits or ethereal entities. It’s as though the chains are subtly pulling the user’s attention toward the supernatural, making unseen spirits suddenly feel close and tangible.
- Binding Force: When the chains are used to restrain a spirit, the user experiences the sensation of pulling something from the immaterial world into the physical. The bond feels heavy, as if they’re dragging the spirit through layers of existence.
- Emotional Residue: The user might briefly feel flashes of emotion from the restrained spirit—fear, anger, or sorrow—making the encounter more personal and intense.
- Observer’s Perspective:
- Sight: To an observer, the chains seem to shimmer with a ghostly, pale-blue light. The glowing runes brighten significantly, casting faint shadows across the room. As the chains wrap around an ethereal entity, they appear to momentarily distort the air, as if bending reality around them. The bound spirit flickers as if trapped between worlds.
- Sound: Observers hear a deep hum, mixed with faint, unsettling whispers that seem to drift in and out of hearing range. When the chains tighten, there’s an audible, sharp metallic clinking, followed by a resonant pulse that reverberates through the air.
- Touch: While observers may not physically feel the chains, they might notice a change in the air around them, a slight pressure or static-like energy as the chains are activated. The atmosphere becomes tense, charged with spiritual energy.
- Smell: A subtle, metallic odor permeates the air, joined by a faint aroma of burning incense. The smell is reminiscent of a distant forge or sacred temple, lingering just enough to be noticeable.
- Extra-Sensory Perception (ESP):
- Spiritual Disturbance: Spirit-sensitive observers might feel a ripple in the spiritual energy of the environment, as if the act of binding a spirit disturbs the natural balance of the ethereal realm.
- Lingering Echoes: Those with heightened spiritual awareness may sense the emotions of the bound entity, feeling faint flashes of anger, desperation, or anguish radiating from the chains.
- Positives:
- Supernatural Control: The user feels empowered and in control, able to physically restrain entities that would otherwise be impossible to touch. The chains provide a tangible connection to the spirit realm.
- Heightened Awareness: The activation of the chains grants an enhanced sensitivity to spiritual entities, allowing the user to detect spirits that would normally remain hidden.
- Tactical Advantage: By binding a spirit or ghost, the user can neutralize a threat that could bypass normal defenses, making the chains invaluable in supernatural combat.
- Negatives:
- Attention from Spirits: Activating the chains might draw the attention of other spirits in the vicinity, some of which may not be friendly. The intense spiritual energy could act like a beacon, attracting unwanted entities.
- Sensory Overload: The whispers, the glowing light, and the weight of spiritual energy may overwhelm both the user and nearby observers, creating distraction or even minor disorientation during combat.
- Emotional Drain: Prolonged use of the chains might leave the user emotionally exhausted, as binding spirits often involves feeling their emotions or struggles. The constant exposure to such energy can be taxing.
- Reality Disturbance: The chains’ ability to bind ethereal entities may subtly affect the fabric of reality in the area, causing strange phenomena such as flickering shadows, sudden cold drafts, or the brief appearance of phantasms.
Recipe: Crafting the Spiritforged Chains
- Materials Needed:
- Ethereal Steel (3 ingots) – A rare metal found only in places where the veil between the spirit world and physical world is thin, such as spirit-haunted ruins or sacred sites.
- Spirit Essence (2 vials) – Collected from the remnants of a banished spirit or ethereal entity. The essence must be purified by a cleric or spirit medium before use.
- Binding Runes (4 engraved stones) – Magical runes carved into special stones that are attuned to ethereal energies. These stones act as the anchor points for the spiritual enchantments.
- Moonlight Thread (1 spool) – A silvery thread woven during a full moon, used to weave the chains’ connections between the material and ethereal planes.
- Obsidian Dust (1 ounce) – Finely ground from sacred obsidian, this dust enhances the chains’ power to bind and restrain spirits by providing a conduit for magical energy.
- Sacred Oil (1 vial) – Used to bless and anoint the chains during the final stage, this oil must be consecrated by a high priest or spiritual guardian.
- Silver Chain Links (12 links) – Ordinary chain links made from pure silver, used as the foundation upon which the ethereal and magical properties will be layered.
- Tools Required:
- Spiritforge – A specialized forge that can temper metals and energies from both the physical and ethereal realms. Required to infuse the ethereal essence into the metal.
- Runic Engraver’s Chisel – A finely crafted tool used for engraving the binding runes into the links of the chains. Precision is required to properly channel ethereal energy.
- Divine Anvil – An anvil blessed by spiritual forces, allowing the materials to be merged with the essence of the spirit realm.
- Spiritbinding Hammer – A hammer enchanted with runes of containment, designed to lock spiritual energy into physical objects without damaging their essence.
- Ethereal Quenching Basin – A basin filled with holy water or sanctified liquid used to cool and stabilize the Spiritforged Chains after forging.
- Incantation Scroll – A scroll containing the sacred words needed to activate the spiritual binding process during crafting.
- Skill Requirements:
- Master Smithing (Advanced) – Expertise in forging rare metals like Ethereal Steel and working with delicate materials such as silver and moonlight thread.
- Runic Magic (Advanced) – Knowledge of inscribing powerful runes that channel ethereal energy, ensuring the chains are effective against spirits and other supernatural beings.
- Spiritbinding (Intermediate) – The ability to work with ethereal energies, trapping them within physical objects and harnessing their power.
- Ritual Blessing (Basic) – Experience in performing sacred rituals to purify materials and anoint the final product.
- Crafting Steps:
- Step 1: Forge the Silver Chain Links
- Begin by heating the Silver Chain Links in the Spiritforge. Once they reach the appropriate temperature, carefully shape each link into the desired size and form.
- Use the Spiritbinding Hammer to strike the links, embedding a small amount of spiritual energy into each one. This process requires precision to ensure the links will later bond with the ethereal steel.
- Cool the links in the Ethereal Quenching Basin, allowing the spirit-infused metal to stabilize.
- Step 2: Smelt the Ethereal Steel
- Heat the Ethereal Steel Ingots until they glow with a faint, otherworldly light. Once molten, pour the steel into molds shaped like chain links, ensuring that the links will fit perfectly with the silver chain links.
- As the steel begins to cool, sprinkle the Obsidian Dust over the metal, allowing it to bind with the spiritual energy of the steel. This dust helps strengthen the chain’s ability to trap and hold spirits.
- When the ethereal steel cools, use the Spiritbinding Hammer to shape and temper the metal, ensuring the links are both sturdy and capable of containing spiritual forces.
- Step 3: Engrave the Binding Runes
- Using the Runic Engraver’s Chisel, carve the Binding Runes into each ethereal steel link. These runes will channel the spiritual energy and enhance the chain’s ability to restrain ethereal entities.
- Carefully follow the ancient designs, chanting an incantation to ensure the runes align with the chains’ purpose. Mistakes in rune placement can lead to unstable chains or failure to bind spirits.
- Step 4: Weave the Moonlight Thread
- Take the Moonlight Thread and weave it through the Silver Chain Links and Ethereal Steel Links, binding them together. The moonlight thread acts as a bridge between the material and ethereal planes, ensuring the chains can affect spirits and ghosts.
- As you weave, speak the incantation from the Incantation Scroll. This will infuse the chains with ethereal energy, allowing them to function in both realms.
- Step 5: Infuse the Spirit Essence
- Once the chain links are fully forged and woven, pour the Spirit Essence over the links, allowing the essence to seep into the metal and thread. The chains will absorb the ethereal energy, granting them the power to subdue spirits.
- Let the chains rest on the Divine Anvil for a few hours while the essence fully bonds with the materials.
- Step 6: Anoint with Sacred Oil
- Anoint the chains with Sacred Oil to purify and finalize the enchantments. This step blesses the chains and seals their spiritual power, preventing the bound spirits from escaping prematurely.
- Perform a Ritual Blessing to ensure the chains are properly attuned to the wearer. The final blessing solidifies the chains’ connection to the spirit world and enhances their durability.
- Step 7: Test the Chains’ Power
- To complete the process, the Spiritforged Chains must be tested. Use them to bind a minor ethereal entity or ghost to ensure the chains function correctly. The runes should glow when activated, and the chains should prevent the spirit from phasing or interacting with the physical world.
- If the test is successful, the chains are ready for use. If not, adjustments to the runes or further infusion of spirit essence may be required.
- Step 1: Forge the Silver Chain Links
- Crafting Time: Approximately 10 days (including forging, weaving, engraving, blessing, and testing).
- Difficulty: High, due to the need for advanced smithing, runic magic, and spiritbinding. A misstep in crafting could result in chains that fail to restrain spirits or collapse under pressure.
Once completed, the Spiritforged Chains will be capable of restraining ethereal entities, allowing the wearer to subdue supernatural threats and bind spirits to the physical world.
Tale of the Chains That Holdeth What Is Not
Long time gone, when the world was soft and shadows walk’d as men, there was no boundary ‘twixt what is here and what is beyond. In that age, the spirits were like wolves, roaming and howling, free in their malice, with none to bind them.
There was a place, lost in time, where the air was thick with the cries of the unseen, and none dared to step there. The wise men of that place did know the spirit realm but did fear it more. None could tame the ethereal ones, for they slipped through walls like smoke and passed through swords like wind.
One of them, who was called Am’harel, dared to think otherwise. He sought what could not be sought—to forge chains not from earth but from the echoes of what had never lived. They say he journeyed to the end of the night itself, where stars bled light and the ground was made of whispers. He met there the makers of the spirit chains, though none can say what manner of beings they were. Some say they were of bone and mist, others that they were shadows made of silence.
These beings told Am’harel the secret, though their words were not words but a song that cut the mind. He returneth with his ears bleeding and his eyes clouded, but he had knowledge. With hands blackened by the fires of nothingness, he began to forge the Chains of Spiritbound. Not of iron, nor steel, nor bronze were these chains, but of what once was thought and dream. The fire he used was cold and did not burn, but it licked at the soul.
When Am’harel finished the chains, he spoke no more. He cast them upon the ground, and they did glow with a light that was not light, and a sound that was not sound came from them. With them, he walked into the places where the spirits dwelled, and they, who had no fear, fled before him.
And so it was that Am’harel brought the unseen to heel, binding what none before could touch. Yet, in the end, it was said that the chains could not hold all that is beyond. For one night, Am’harel vanished, and the chains fell to the ground, still humming with the echoes of the voices that cannot be heard.
Moral of the Story: To bind what cannot be seen, one must make what cannot be made—and yet, even such bindings may unravel before what lies beyond.
